it's been cool, just felt this insane feeling of having to rush through the entire game just so that I could get to the second one lol, but I ended up enjoying it more and more and it became less rush intensive, especially as I got more and more familiar with the world

it probably has to do with the fact that it's a fully fleshed out game also but it's just so good that when I got to Hades II it kinda was jarring. I definitely was a bit overcritical for a while before realizing it's just just kinda different as a game

My strategy is to knock out asterius first. If you can line up both of them and hit them at the same time, that makes things go faster. You can only hit theseus from the back, so get behind him and hit him with everything you got. Other than that, watch out for his spins (they have a noticeable but short telegraph)

I mean the advice for begineers is to handle the two seperately

Get Asterius away from Theseus (ideally the other side of the arena), ensure you keep pillars between you and Theseus so he doesn’t have a proper angle to throw his spear at you

And deal with Asterius from there

once you have Theseus by himself, you just need to get your dashing/dodging down to get behind him and hit him and avoid taking damage

In phase two you kinda just gotta dash like mad and find damage where you can

Keep in mind for most weapons dash striking is the fastest speed you have to hit him before he turns (and also usually just best overall damage tbh)

Nyaanyaa's Guan Yu Guide
Generally on Guan Yu, the hammers you want are Charged Skewer > Quick Spin > Massive Spin > Serrated Point. Breaching Skewer and Serpent Wing also alright. And Breaching Skewer becomes top priority for the second hammer if you have Charged Skewer already.

Charged Skewer shortens the startup of Guan Yu's Special a whole lot and lets you hold your Special for up to triple base damage.

You'll want Heartbreak Flourish or Deadly Flourish ideally, anyway, for the high % damage. Guan Yu's Special has 45 base damage, piercing, and wide AOE. Anything with % damage is good on Attack except Tempest Strike is unorthodox and requires fully leaning into Poseidon to make it work (though it can be effective and fun).

For optimal DPS, you're either doing Special > Dash-Strike x2 or Cast > Dash-Strike x2 with Guan Yu. Cast for single-target, Special when you can hit multiple enemies with it (or if you have Charged Skewer). And just your Special and reposition if it's enough to one-shot things (which it often is if you have Charged Skewer).

There are two ways to charge the spin: from a normal Attack and from a Dash-Attack. 99% of the time you want to charge from a Dash-Attack. And there are three ways to release a spin: let go of Attack, Dash, and Dash-Attack. Letting go of Attack is the safest method and how you want to release it most of the time. So. I played a fair bit of Hades first when it came out, and then more over time and updates but I never properly "finished" the main story because I didn't play all that much "on release".

Now that I've played some Hades 2 and realised just how much I've missed the game I'm planning to go back to the original and finish things up a bit more.

So I'm looking for advice. One major and one minor. Firstly, should I start a new save file for this "new" attempt at finishing up the game (I'm thinking no. I've finished the night mirror and I'm on Heat 8~13 spread across various weapons) and secondly what do I need to keep in mind moving back to the first game? Litttle things like boon or aspect suggestions you know?

Maybe some tips for pushing for higher heat levels as well.

I tend to play whatever the darkness bonus dictates not because I need the darkness but to keep shaking things up. That said Fists are easily my favourite, followed by shield and sword pretty close together, then spear and bow. (Rail? What Rail?)

Mirror is "default" except for Persuasion, Legacy and I swap between Privilaged and Family Favourite.

Pact I'd have to check and I'm not at my computer at the moment... but I remember going Boss' are hearder, Middle Management, Damage control 1 More enemy HP and that might be it? As I said I'd have to check.

I'd probably continue the same file you have. I'm on my second file (decided to try out hell mode) but that was after a few hundred hours on the first. It would take a little while to fill out the mirror and get to the same story point again, but that was fun too.

Yeah Aether was the main pionier, took it from 58->60 and changed the meta. The speedcord went nuts over it and started experimenting (and using pseudo animation cancel to save time) and now 3 people have done hypermodded GY 64 and 1 done regular modded.

Also for Zeus we have a better idea how to more efficiently deal damage (better combos, better movement, better grouping etc.) compared to last year.

Yeah either or works. ME is very viable on sword as well as Guan Yu and Hades and Zeus attack on Achilles and Zag spear works just fine

You can also run the classic Tdash plus arty on all of the aforementioned weapons so both % and flat damage work

bit of both, generally for speed swords use flat damage but for heat they use flat/%
spears generally use flat but arty works well for achillies/hades since they have % based increases.

I completed the epilogue and gave my first review of a game on steam:

Hades was not made for me, I've not played roguelikes before however I was familiar with Transistor and Bastion. That didn't stop it from becoming my favorite game ever.

Hades is a masterpiece, the sheer creativity of Supergiant is unmatched. I'm writing this after reaching the epilogue and getting most of the achievements. I can't say anything about the art or the music that hasn't already been said, everything that went into this game was done with passion. What Supergiant does better than anyone else is create a feedback loop between gameplay and story. The pull of 'one more run' after getting a new keepsake or wanting to talk to the characters back in the house after a run (whether successful or not) just doesn't let up after hours and hours of play. After over 80 runs I've yet to hear the same line of dialogue twice and the replayability might actually just be infinite. The blending of an old mythos with an action game could not have been done better. Death being part of the story means you don't lose the sense of immersion at the end of a run, you ARE the Prince of the Dead on a quest to escape. But of course There is no Escape.

Depends on what you mean by 'overrated.'

Can some aspects function perfectly fine without any hammer upgrades? Yes. But barring really bad luck and being offered a bunch of actively detrimental upgrades at a hammer, getting a hammer upgrade on an aspect is better to have than not, even if it's not the most 'ideal' upgrade you could have gotten.

And, of course, there are certain aspects who borderline need a certain upgrade in order to get results.

I feel as though a situation where literally all your choices are actively detrimental is so rare as to not merit completely avoiding hammers, since usually you'll be forced to pick a hammer eventually. More likely, you'll wind up taking an upgrade that isn't all that useful, but at the very least isn't directly hobbling you

And for an example, try playing Aspect of Hades without a hammer that increases the speed/area of your spin attacks
