Speaking solely based on my own personal experience, my best results from chaos shield come from getting a stackable special like demeter or dionysus and just shotgunning enemies with a bunch of stacks at once

the base attack does pretty meh damage unless you have idk pulv blow so you pray for cshot on zag/chaos or spam bullrushes into special on chaos. for zeus with explosive return you want to toss your special into enemies and bullrush through to grab it and proc er. dash attack moves you forward a bit more so chaining it into bullrush is helpful for the added mobility before you can block, can also dash strike a bit later after dash to move slightly faster
