I had an idea for an RPG

Inspired by Transistor, and also Squaresoft RPGs, among other things

The idea is that it takes place in a post apocalypse
The world is a wasteland, but there are pockets of civilization living in futuristic cyberpunk cities

There is a magic system called Ether, that can be manipulated by technology to produce "spells"

Certain people can manipulate it naturally, but this is exceedingly rare

The main threat of this apocalypse are these supernatural beings that I don't have a name for

The idea is that they're these intangible light beings who build bodies for themselves out of whatever materials they can get

Although there are some who are so powerful they don't need bodies

They can also turn living creatures into more of themselves

They are inspired by the process, but I figured the whole "building bodies out of metal and scrap" would give them a unique visual feel

What these beings are and where they came from is a major part of the game's mystery

But if you want I can talk about what they are

I suppose I can explain the themes of the story

The long and short is that these supernatural beings are manifestations of the vices and sins of humanity

I know that sounds a little avant-garde, but it has to do with the story's themes

I want to explore the aspects of humanity that lead to all these cruel and uncomfortable outcomes in our world

Clearly it's not enough to say "there's bad things going on in the world"

I want to do a deeper analysis of what causes those bad things to happen and why we tacitly accept it

Things like global warming, bigotry and intolerance, the perversion and exploitation of religion, kids in third world countries mining for cobalt in horrible conditions

I want to get the very deepest roots of all these problems

And their common origin point

I think it‘s an interesting concept but I would like to give you the advice of not trying to put in too much and to not have a specific focus. I would also like to give some food for thought that maybe all of these horrible things are not inherently part of humanity and that it may not be that people don‘t care but rather can‘t due to how we have normalized living and existing. Idk how much experience you have with political analysis of society and humanity etc etc but I would definitely advice you to try to read as much as you can on things to get a feel for the answers others have come up with to the question „why is all of this happening“ to find your own statement that you would want to build into your concept. I think that that would also help with a more concise storyline, since then you would know on what specific issue you want to focus too. The questions and issues you brought up is what some people are asking themselves all their lives and they dedicate years to understand the details of them, writing books on books just to look at a fraction of the problem. What I‘m trying to say is, it‘s very ambitious to put everything into it, it‘s possible but it would take a lot of labor. That‘s why focusing on a specific aspect while showcasing the connections between them instead of tackling everything in one storyline is crucial imo

Obviously this is just spitballing ideas (is that how you call it?) and I can definitely see a promising story forming out of them

this has some really cool concepts in it, i like the combination of magic and technology. the supernatural beings and the metal and scrap bodies have a lot potential for cool character design too.

i agree with a lot of what elena said. too many topics dilutes them and it's very difficult to cover well, and also makes it more likely that topics covered won't have the detail and care they need. and with that, i highly, highly recommend sensitivity readers. it's very easy to view an issue in a certain way when you don't have first hand experience and portray it in a way that's hurtful, and sensitivity readers can help you avoid that.

i'd also recommend moving away from "sins and vices of humanity" idea as it's a pretty black-and-white view of things. treating badness as an inherent trait of humanity is turning the things you want to write against into "that's just how it is". a lot of post-apocalyptic stories have hope as a big aspect, so it could be good to use to shape your world

generally an interesting stay for sure, these are just some things worth thinking about

The roots of those problems stem from the simple fact that we don't know how to deal with Prisoner's Dilemma.

One real life example of it is the nuclear race between the USSR and the US. Luckily we have found the "solution" in Mutually Assured Destruction. In other words, we have to increase the stake so damn high when two players decide to "defects" that it is more rational "not" to betray each other.
Right now, I would argue many countries are playing the same game with environmental stuff. Not until the stakes are high enough (I'm talking literal brink of extinction) would countries start to shy away from "defecting" each other.

Many nurses are without a doubt the worst people on the planet. They are so pompus, full of themselves, and toxic that they don't deserve to be considered "healthcare heroes."

There's also been many cases in aus where ambulences couldn't offload patients because literally all the beds were taken already so it lead to some having to be treated in the ambulence

i just got out of the hospital recently. first time experiencing it too. i got the impression the nurses are very overworked (overhear them outside the ward), but whenever they're talking with patients they sound so kind and patient. very impressive (a country in SEA)

was honestly shocked at how good the treatment was but then I remembered that I was staying at a private hospital

something else that i've noticed about the private hospitals here is that they have more art on the walls, too, with full credits

As in, a doctor can recommend a treatment, but they have to get the insurance company to agree to pay for it. A person from that insurance company would decide and 99% of the times said person would not have medical training. So yeah, a random bloke can veto a doctor suggestion for someone else literally for the sake of money.

About imagining 4d

We can't imagine 4d like we imagine

Because we imagine(typically) how we would see it

But

We see because light reflects

Into our eyes

And light reflects in 3 dimensions

It's a three dimensional object

So if we had a four dimensional object for observation

We would only see a projection of it

So in order to imagine 4d objects we would need to think in four dimensions

And that is kinda hard

We can't really think in even less dimensions than we usually do

We always imagine a projection

I would really want to see how two dimensional being exists and acts

It probably wouldn't really have "vision" it would be more like echolocation I think
