I don't know anything about this but I like puff one the most
I like tulip and leg o' mutton
gotta say the bell and the peasant
trumpet and tulip
One more hem done and it looks Bad but its fine nobody’ll see it
Its not evenat all but hopefully i can just iron out the bad parts
Im actually gonna wait to do the fourth panel because i dont have a zipper and i need to insert that
What are the best keepsakes
bishop, peasant, and cowl :o
mood
peasant sleeves my beloved
Porridge is underrated
4/8 total panels hemmed
3 main and 1 inset
Im gonna see if i can finish the skirt today
gonna eat and then get working on some glorious, all important pockets
update my needle got lost on my second pocket so im taking that as an opportunity to actually get up and stop sewing for a second
pros of bed sewing: comfortable
cons of bed sewing: good luck finding your needles and pins
bed sewing sounds cozy as heck
not sure if i could actually sleep on it after potentially losing a needle in there
It is very cozy
floor and beds >>> chairs
The pockets are honestly too small for my taste but thats okay because ill have other storage and pockets are better then no pockets
Update pockets have expanded under the iron
where can i send images?
Hi
Please don't.
Also, this is a special surprise for everyone~

I needed this
happy 5783 everyone
Story where one of the characters has frequent amnesia but always hides it because they want to figure out whats going on themselves, like a puzzle.
"this here is Gerhard and he is a physicist who despite his frequent amnesia is the only one who knows the macguffin equation that solves our current emergency and we have to get him to the fancy lab in area 51 to save the world but our enemies are constantly hounding our every step"
"hmm yes, I have deduced that I am likely this Gerhard you are speaking of"
Starring Charlize Theron as the hard-ass spy who's been given responsibility of the scientist. The rock as the surprisingly kind-hearted and goofy gangster who they recruit and.... I wanna say shohreh aghdashloo as the scientist.
Still named gerhard
I wanna be a supervillain
What’s stopping you
Lack of super powers?
It was a weird feeling when I realized my D&D character was just me with energy and motivation.
I'm like archimedes but instead of a long lever and a fulcrum I need lots of energy and motivation
Someone react to this with :pensiveyeet:
personally its my moral compass
What exactly in your moral compass is stopping you
Good question
I guess it depends on the hero
If the hero is a not good person and i’m the villian opposing them i guess thats a different deal
But if its The archetypical supervillain probably the whole general taking over the world by force corruption thing
my moral compass is mostly not being a terrible person and quite a bit of supervillains fall under terrible people so
I think the villain creates the hero
There's no reason for a hero to be without a villain
And what type of hero it is depends on what villain you are
gotchu
not necessarily. A hero could be helping against a natural disaster, or an "everyday hero" who just helps with little things in life
Thank you! The comment looks much better now
i’d say it makes sense to argue that a hero should have something to fight against, whether that be represented by a person/state or something more natural or abstract
you wouldn’t need a hero if there wasn’t conflict of some sort
Natural disaster and especially everyday life are villains
are we speaking to the comic-book usage of hero, or the dictionary definition?
a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.
I don't know that it needs to be framed as a fight or conflict. Someone could be a hero for saving a drowning child—they "fought" against the water, but that feels like a stretch.
I do not see them in the same way, personally
I'm speaking an abstraction
I still stand by what I said—a hero could be someone who does something extraordinary, not necessarily by fighting against even an abstract villain
well yes, but you also can’t have a hero without a conflict
reminds me of english class! the different forms of conflict: person v. self, person v. nature, person v. society…
Only partially related but I thought I had seen a Tolkien quote about everyday heroes, but I can't find it anymore
maybe this one?
“I have found that it is the small everyday deed of ordinary folks that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love." (Gandalf)
I would say that you could. Not a hero of legend or myth, those are almost always conflict-based. But I wouldn't describe (as an example) "helping reach something on a high shelf" as being a conflict; someone could still consider that person a "small" hero.
the conflict is the height of the shelf
may seem like a minor conflict, but it is a conflict to someone. conflict as in “problem” in this case, i suppose
Swan you are on point today 🦢
Gandalf, right? wise words to end my day
I suppose, yeah. I'm not sure I would describe it in the same way but that doesn't mean you'd be wrong to call it a conflict.
For me it's the other way around, hero doesn't have to do something extraordinary what makes them a hero is that they're fighting the villain
Hero is fighting the villain
But villain is not, villain comes before the hero, villain fights for the cause, and then hero appears to stop the villain
And the "small heroes" who help a grandma cross the road or something they're also fighting the villain although it may not be a conflict that's why they're fighting the villain not resolving conflict, heroes usually initiate conflict, conflict with the villain, and villain is not a conflict villain is a danger or a problem
However villain is not always a conflict only if the definition of "conflict" or more so the depth at which we are using this term is superficial, because conflict is not just a direct confrontation of a person and a person or person and society. Conflict is simpler than that, conflict is something meeting an obstacle and the obstacle could also be something that met an obstacle in form of the first something, but not necessarily. So when someone can't get something from the top shelf it's a conflict, a conflict of their will to reach an object and object's out of reach position, will vs obstacle
is someone still a hero if they're not actively fighting a villain?
so the shelf is the villain
who fights for the cause
of stopping people getting books.
that book getter is a hero because they fight shelf which is villain
oh but the book getter is fighting for a cause
of getting book
so they are the villain
and the shelf is the hero now

become real. become Vergil

Someone from here added me in their friendlist for no reason (im inactive) and i dont seem able to ping em to ask why?
who was it?
Oki now that's ok i forgot it was possible to send pm to people in shared servers without being in each's friend list
hey, is it possible to ask interview questions for supergiant games staff? it's for a presentation and I am unsure how to approach it.
You can use contact form on their website, there should be a relevant topic you can choose, so that it goes to the right person https://www.supergiantgames.com/contact/
Supergiant Games is a small independent game development studio in San Francisco, known for its award-winning titles Hades, Pyre, Transistor, and Bastion.
I had looked at the topics, but none of them seemed to be for the interview. Which one do you think would suit the inquiry? Also thank you
Oh wait I noticed it. Thank you
Oh no
I dont uderstand how the mouse cursor bug is still in the game
Heyo! If you pop over to #h1-tech-support and let me know what's going on, I might be able to help

Why is astrology so looked down upon but religion isn't
astrology so looked down upon but religion isn't
how do you get that conclusion?
nice
It’s spooky
Wdym how like are there different ways to get this conclusion
such as? i dont come to that conclusion so i cant tell
anyway folks how are you doing on this fine saturday at 1:06 am HST
i may have stayed up playing terraria
niceu, how are you finding the new patch?
lmao i dont know the difference my friends just roped me into it in the last couple of days
very fun though
fantasy characters have far too many belts
jester has at least three :(
Terraria 1.4.4 is very cool but obsidian armor got absolutely nerfed to pieces it was my favorite armor in the game and now it's just not good
:0
Fair, though I'm a bit baffled as to why astrology of all things is a blacklisted topic among everything else. Just wanted to know since I wouldn't want to make careless remarks about, well, potentially any topic...
it's not the topic of astrology itself that's blacklisted
asking why one large area of thing is "looked down" on and another very large area of a thing is not tends to lead to a very heated discussion
and one that is not suited for this server
reading it as astrology being a blacklisted topic is a bit of a stretch tbh
Fair enough, though that's how I saw it since I'm used to reasoned discussions when debating friends or colleagues. I suppose that'd be harder to control in a server.
W mod
Playing terraria as well
Another W
bruh im struggling to find a new phone
thought about Sony's Xperia 5 IV, maybe the Iphone 12 or idk.
i just want something with a nice camera and decent specs.

Yeah something like that
for real this time we swear
hello everyone~ hope y'all have a good day today
:> you too
i'm hoping to nab some coffee today. it's also raining here; i was hoping to get an iced coffee, but a warm coffee might be back on the books now
Wow that is giant
we had first snow a while ago, and now it's thawing

That is excellent, thank you
GUYS
ITS ACTUALLY FALL
ITS COLD
I CAN WEAR SWEATERS IN HAWAII
IM WEARING L E G G I N G S
I CAN MAKE HOT TEA
i love october
but what kinda hot tea?
for me, chai is the ultimate fall tea
i've told this to the supergiant server before a long time ago, but a chai tea with espresso is called a 'dirty chai' here
Everywhere I've ordered one, which has been Colorado, Nebraska, and California has understood what I meant when I asked for a dirty chai
That!
im making some chai cocoa tea
and also baking some apples with cinnamon and sugar
also put some mint in it because its very nice
Omg baked apples
I was on Maui in november once and I still spent my entire time there sweating
what is considered chai? genuinely curious as i see chai as tea, any kind of tea
chai is literally tea but in a diff language i think
it is, which is why i’m curious as to what consitutes “chai” in the Western/English speaking world
it’s just “tea” in Urdu, and in other related languages as well, i think!
it’s why “chai tea” is such an interesting term. “tea tea”
It translates to tea too in russia
There's "grass tea" tho
Tea that's not made from tea but from any other kind of plant
oh wow, that’s fascinating. amazing how we’ve somehow settled on two Main Terms for this particular drink
What's amazing is that it's only two terms
Hey guys do you want a very jester-y idea i might do
I buy/find battery powered led lights. I put it in the lollipop. Light up lollipop.
ooh
i can even make it light up green because yknow its a spiritual weapon from the traveller that seems on brand
…yeah i ordered it
and we all know what any traveller needs
built in flashlight on their stuffs

I cant tell if this is passive aggressive or not
I was just joking
but that's actually true
shining staff is a nice substitution for a torch or even flashlight
Well that clears it up
The etymology of the various words for tea reflects the history of transmission of tea drinking culture and trade from China to countries around the world. Nearly all of the words for tea worldwide fall into three broad groups: te, cha and chai, present in English as tea, cha or char, and chai. The earliest of the three to enter English is cha, which came in the 1590s via the Portuguese, who traded in Macao and picked up the Cantonese pronunciation of the word. The more common tea form arrived in the 17th century via the Dutch, who acquired it either indirectly from the Malay teh, or directly from the tê pronunciation in Min Chinese. The third form chai (meaning "spiced tea") originated from a northern Chinese pronunciation of cha, which travelled overland to Central Asia and Persia where it picked up a Persian ending yi.
Yes
And consider
Shiny staff pretty

Shout-out to torpenhow hill, who's name translates to hill hill hill hill
Have like an on off switch on your magic staff,
Chane the colors to breathing RGB

Ooooooh
I like this
I learned Urdu comes from the same etymological roots as Horde
sorry but tea should be by the tea color key and vice versa this confused me for like 4 seconds
should tea not be teal colored?
no i mean
the word chai is above the tea
like in the sentence above
and my brain said "ah yes chai by the sea"
ahh i see
i was bothered by something else
they should have used "cha" for japanese
and show that its basically the same as china and korea
ocha is not wrong, but the 'o' is just a modifier to make certain words more polite
i learned it because there's stuff i wanted to read. would be hard to retain if i dont actually read using it
its actually easier when theres a lot of media that youre interested in
yeah that makes sense
last/this night (i stayed up all night i conquered time its irrelevant now) me and friends were talking about loanguage learning and like the number one tip is actually use it on stuff youre interested in
yup, its also probably the only reason to learn in the first place kek (unless you have to move to a place where most people speak that language)
mostly i just want to learn so i have a funky new skill\
i learned without classrooms and just by finding resources on the internet, so you too!
oh fun
I do plan on taking classes because i need to take a language anyway so
though i might do asl it looks very fun
god iced chai lattes are so good
perfvect balance of fall and its still too hot to do anything
Facts
Sometimes a dirty chai also hits right
takes heart
Levitation is tiresome, I can attest.
stinkykatie has become my favorite twitter account these last few weeks
Remember how I said in the chat yesterday that a dirty chai is a chai latte with espresso? Well. I'm getting a dirty matcha latte right now
It's extremely bitter 😖
I don't think it helps that I dislike mint and the matcha is mint flavoured
did you.... get an espresso mixed matcha????
Yep 🤪
Took me a moment too
Well well, it's the Ultimate ???
(This is to say, great pfp
)
Omg yesssss !!! She’s my favorite character in Danganronpa 😭 and thank ya thank ya. I also like your profile pic. I love seeing dressed up pets haha.
I agree with you! I'd like to elaborate but, ya know. Gotta be considerate
I suppose I don't have to tell you that is a bad idea
I have learned my lesson
tomorrow i shall sew myself a cloak!
that feels very needed forvisiting a place with actual season
i have these red bedsheets that i bought for a cosplay last halloween and never used
it seems olike the perfect time
hello!
here’s a photo of the sunset I took
thought the people here would like to see it
Oh no, anything but that
i work with the metric system when i do miniature kits and it makes so much more sense
10 millimeters = 1 centimeter
12 inches = 1 foot
like what
extremely cursed

no that makes sense
My head hurts from imperial system
Why is there twelve inches in foot
Why is fahrenheit isn't based on anything simple as water most of the time you're not gonna see 0°F
Why is pound = lbs???
Letters lbs aren't even anywhere in pound??
And mile isn't 1000 feet
libra pondo
Imperial system is so uneven from all sides and irrational and counterintuitive
12 is hella intuitive because 2 and 3 are much better prime factors than 2 and 5
people use thirds of things a lot more than they use fifths
Also why is it called imperial I thought the whole united states thing was that it was a british empire colony and revolted like why would you not like the empire but use an imperial system
Then why isn't literally anything else except inches in foot is 12
but it's not intuitive when you have to do things like turn 57 inches into feet
Because they were used for different things and had different tools on hand to measure things with.
Exactly, we use decimal numeral system
people didn't really work that way back when the foot to inches standard was being developed. You'd measure out your feet and then you'd measure out the remainder inches
I don't understand this argument
But metric system already existed
I mean, I'm not going to say that 16 ounces to a pound makes a lot of sense, I'm just saying that A) 12 is a very intuitive base to manipulate and B) we developed units based on the tools we had at hand.
I'm also not arguing that imperial is good
I just like thinking about the context that things were made
It would only be intuitive if we used a duodecimal numeral system
If more things than this one specific thing were 12 then it would be intuitive
oh huh, one teaspoon is pretty close to five mililiters
insert 3d saul
Its really interesting to think about things like this though, for example, why is the word for the animal frequently germanic when the word for its meat frequencly romance?(see Cow/Beef) its because, or so I'm told, people who took care of the animals generally spoke germanic, but the people who led the culture on cuisine thought french was the best thing ever.
Metric is very much the measurement of scientists, whereas imperial is the measurement of the workers.
A gram of something isn't going to be that terribly useful in the kitchen, a kilogram of something is generally more useful but still not exactly a wieldy tool of measurement for cooking, but ounces and pounds are.
Wait how is a pound more useful than a kilogram
this was in 1790s. the world great powers at the time, france and britain were at war, and a large part of europe would be pulled into it and had to choose sides. the US were optimistic about france coming on top. but then those french people got crazy with their guillotine(french revolution at the time) and the US wanted to distance themselves from such radical idealism. so they thought, "we can't adopt the french's metric system, it'll send the wrong message about our stance"
its not more useful by much, but its a bit on the same scale of cooking stuff in the kitchen. I very infrequently need a pound of something but I need a pound of something a lot more than I need a kilogram of something.
"And we will name it imperial because french revolution was against the monarchy"?
Pound is just about 450 gram though and you may need 50 100 150 200 250 or whatever gram
It's just hard to measure anything with a pound that's not a pound
Just imagine you're an 18th century baker's apprentice and someone goes, "OK, this is a quarter kilo of salt", does that make any less sense than "This is nine ounces of salt"
I really hope, when you read those quotes, you read them in as funny an accent as I imagined them in my head
I did
It depends whether I know what ounce or kilogram is or no
they dont call it that. they call it US customary units
Jesus, a mile comes from a thousand roman paces, and a roman pace is 5 roman feet,
either romans had incredibly small feet or incredibly long strides
Queen elizabeth the first shortened the foot in the statute of 1593 which probably inspired a wealth of baudy jokes
(but that's also why a mile is 5280 and not 5000)
Well ok but everyone call it imperial anyway
Just gonna drop this, answers pretty much every question I had about the imperial system
it's not as bad as people say it is (but it is still pretty bad)

Siblings, send me your vibes, I have tempted fate by attempting to do laundry tricks to maximize the amount of comfortable underwear and t-shirts-without-holes available for the trip
ooh share laundry tricks
Nothing special, just decided that I wanted to pack the clothes I was wearing and wear some clothes that were dirty so I'm washing them now in the hopes that the dryer functions well enough that they'll be dry enough to pack tomorrow morning
dirty clothes vs tshirts-with-holes?
can confirm
I am doing this
its very tedious
Sew I see

only non-metric measurement i can find usual for cooking are cups/spoons/teaspoons. and even then cup is usually about 1/4 litres
Eh i have a headache but to be fair i always have a headache
It’s just worse then usual
Guys i have the second best idea since a light up lollipop

If this isn't me every other night - what's worse, I feel the cramp coming and unless I twist my leg in a very specific way, my leg explodes.
Damn that‘s relatable
Maybe like three times a year for me though
Then the 30 sec battle of how to get into a position where I can stretch it
for me its my base of the foot at times
I'm not sure they're cramps, but I love it when I like, reach a little too far for something and my entire shoulder is just like, "oh, I've transformed from matter to pure pain"
You guys ever got a cramp below your jaw from yawning too widely?
thankfully not
if you're feeling pain on a frequent basis it's generally a good idea to see a doctor

I decided to try that matcha I had a few days back by itself, without coffee
Turns out it's the matcha itself that tastes terrible! I'm used to the grassy taste matcha has but the matcha powder was coarse and the mint taste didn't compliment it in the slightest
I also had the cafe's coffee in a breakfast smoothie and that tasted good lmao
yep, I'm filled with red beans
I wonder
How much people living right now have never experienced silence in their life
Most people live in cities
In cities there's always some kind of noise
And even not in the cities there are usually insects and animals making noises
even in noise isolation rooms you can hear your heartbeat and blood so ig only deaf people
Well technically only people with part of the brain that is responsible for hearing is non functioning
But I mean not that absolute
the Blahaj is out of stock in my country's Ikea 😔
why is your country's ikea so homophobic?
https://\iwakkrg.github.io/cat.jpg/
How the hell
WOW
Im impressed
a pleasant surprise
the future of technology
im going to ikea for the first time this week wish me luck in finding it
Check on the website for the availability
Cmon long island ikea i believe in you
nah its more fun if im inevitably disappointed (or suprised)
also dont forget to try the swedish meatballs they go so hard and here they are very cheap
bet i dont like meatballs but ill try
Ikea food saved lots students in Bucharest
especially the hot dogs which were like 50 cents or so
im going to long island anyway for a bat mitzah and theres an ikea right around there so thatll be fun
Also going up to washington dc which has no ikea but yknow also a first
Id love to visit again and get some cool convenient house accesories
Maybe when we gotta go on our trip to get some kilometers on our new car
There's only like 1-2 Ikeas in Romania both in Bucharest, 500km away from me 😔
I love long trips tho
my bro doesn't take me to IKEA anymore because every time, without fail, I'd make at least 10 puns at IKEA

tfw your IKEA was not out of Blahaj, but you never somehow bothered to buy it
and now your country is out of IKEA
I have to go back to work today Q.Q
someone please call my office, you have my permission to tell them I died in a particularly embarrassing way
because of a tiny little rodent?
Ty mods
gonna try sewing on the plane wish me luck lmao
damn they gonna let you get needles on there?
🙏
idk what to do if they dont l;et me hfjhfhsbn
apparently crocheting hooks are allowed, you could get yourself a backup plan hehe
and random blog articles i can absolutely not verify say needles are ok, so it should be alright \:)/
i cant bring my scissors though
Yeah I would personally never recommend bringing sewing supplies on hand carry on planes
I once had a pair of cosmetic scissors taken away from me. The ones with the rounded ends.
They're strict with (sometimes) good reason
i’ve heard nail clippers are an effective substitute for scissors
My brother used to chainmaille on flights
but the belgiumish version of the TSA confiscated his little pliars
even though they made it through the frankfurt security line easily enough
should have done chain letters instead
im now imagining someone passing chain letters to people on the plane and giggling
What a time to be alive...in a gap year and living in the UK at that. Supposing I don't freeze to death this winter, I wonder how on earth I should go about building a future in terms of housing or investments, being from a lower income background.
please dont freeze🙏
Hello folks i am in the great land of pizza and bagels
Pizza is the pinnacle of human creation
So true
Agreed
That just makes the electricity bill higher
I used to leave my TV on all night to help me sleep
my parents used to do this as an anti-theft device. Don't ask me how well it works.
wait, NYCC is over, were you in NY for NYCC?
i unironically listen to cbat now
Same I like it
The Gaygel
ughhhh! yum. what flavour?
rainbow things over here are caramel flavour
I think it was just plain but with food coloring
As days go on the more I realize I don't understand concepts of caring, individuality and free will
Why do people care about something that doesn't impact them and why do they care about their own ego integrity like uhmm they're afraid of becoming someone else
And free will is like so weird you think you can choose but you can't choose what you will choose
And people for some reason often don't care about others
It's like they don't realize that billions of people exist at the same time with them and to some extent all are impacted by their actions
I don't really understand do they "care" about anyone or just only think about their self image and their reputation and if they do care is it just because they think about reputation and etc but subconsciously and if not then is it some animal-like instincts and if not then what is it and why do they care
And how does individual exist as a concept if it's so easy to change a person to break them or restore them someone's identity is determined simply by where when and with who they existed and by their genetics and by what happened to them
All of humanity is just randomness
Humans don't exist
It's just a lot of simple mechanisms groups together
And there is so much mechanisms that are connected that they form a consciousness
Give a group of abstract immortal scientists a billion years and they will describe a human with equations
@mossy trail if you don't mind me asking, approximately how old are you?
16 without 2 weeks
Reading
Have you read Sophie's World by Jostein Gaardner? Because if not I highly suggest it
Ok thx I'll add it to my to read list
It may not be the greatest read, like, its a novelized history of philosophy, but what really is important to understand when it comes to asking questions like this is putting things in context and that's what the novel is really good at.
(also my birthday is also two weeks away :D)
SAME LMAO
https://youtube.com/shorts/FMDrkiZblts?feature=share i love this guy
Go to https://www.marketforces.org.au for the full list and all the actual research!
Disappointing,
Doing anything exciting? 👀
Not even a little bit
did someone ping me here or is discord being weird
uhhh me but i didnt like how i phraed things so i deleted it
@mossy trail deliver us from evil, Yahweh-san 🧡
background noise! i like background noise and also i leave the tv on for my bird when i'm not at the house, if its too quiet it stresses him out when im not around
I always had TV playing in the background back then. Nowadays work place is loud, I prefer silence
Smells like ADHD to me.
Also potentially the ever shorter attention spans nowadays, hmm. And an over reliance on media and technology.
Also the ever increasing quietness of machines creating backgrounds with less sound that humans evolved to spend any length of time in causing mental health problems. Which to my understanding is connected to why ASMR videos where it's like crunching stuff or whatever got so popular
that’s interesting because from what ive seen its usually the older generation is the ones leaving the tv onnall day
specifically my grandfather
also silence is bad because then you can hear every tiny thing and autism + migraines is not a fun combo with that
I like background noise but only when I control it
If it's something from the street it's awful
And I hate tv because I can't control it
So.. like fan's white noise?
i was diagnosed as a teen, ye. don't think ive heard of that one ping as an adhd flag before tho, i just don't like complete silence lmao though conversely more as an adhd thing i have to stop whatever i have going thru my headphones if i need to type anything longer than a short sentence bc otherwise it frazzles me and i can't think
With ADHD, it's often that brown noise helps still your mind and focus you on a task, which is why it's often handy. I'm the same (I'm diagnosed myself), but for instance - I also can't work when there's music with lyrics on in the background. I do feel there's an overreliance on headphones in my life and that needs to stop.
Unless you're one of the questionably lucky folk who can hear electricity
Then there's always noise
For the ADHD stuff, I have a different audio thing than most of my friends, where I actually work better with lyrical music. In particular, I'll loop one song over and over for hours at a time to get into a hyperfocus zone.
I'll sometimes have a lot of audio input, but as long as I'm generally in control of it, I'm fine. Example playing D&D, I'll have whatever music the DM is playing, then my own separate music, and then everyone talking as we play. But if I can hear my roommate's music in the next room over, that starts overstimulating me very quickly.
personally, I see music in a similar way to meds, if it helps you cope and get through the day then it isn't necessarily an overreliance
That's just transformers singing you the song of their people!
the older they are the louder they sing
I'm actually fortunate that I don't always hear it, but I definitely do sometimes
probably because they have so much practice and have so much to say
I think the worst part is the engineers picked a frequency that's just a slightly flat B
(or a slightly flat A flat, if you're not USian)
Music as meds is a great analogy if you take the wrong meds it's bad right
Wrong meds can have detrimental effects, yeah, that's part of why there are multiple different types of ADHD medication.
Its weird because i can be in like a full city and be fine but if someone is existing in a quiet room i will hear them breathing and go insane
No, I certainly agree with you that it's incorrect to say it's an overreliance - then again, to what extent is being on meds (even if genuinely non-addictive) from a very young age, is that technically not a dependence? I haven't yet been set on a medication course, and since ADHD relief options are not so developed here in the UK as much as in the US, how many such folks supplement their non-med time with specialised therapy and different coping mechanisms?
Also, Hmmm, I do often put on lyrical music (usually rock/metal) when I'm doing exercise or playing games - aka, anything I don't have to focus on fully, that I've done before often.
But I can't multitask very well with stuff I'm not so experienced with, and doubly so with conversations with more than one person.
I hate being dependent on my meds
I once tried just cutting them off and I got obliterated mentally
yeah i get that
This is where I feel I'll have a bit of an advantage starting off at 25, because it's easier to build a balance when you're not so deeply shaped by an experience.
and @finite goblet
Reading this several years ago really helped me put my "reliance" on my meds into perspective
And NT people do additional things to handle stressors as well, so coping mechanisms aren't just an ND thing either
Thanks Swan.
Has anyone else here grown up with family members or parents who also had an impairment of some sort?
What I've learned from personal experience is that not making an effort to balance oneself and managing symptoms can make it very difficult to live with someone who's also impaired, especially if they've also got ADHD like yourself. It even breaks relationships if it goes far enough.
Thankfully this newer generation has much more help in this regard. I certainly feel bad for the things my mother went through, and that it's hard for her to take a turn in her near 50s now.
I don't ~Take Meds~, I ~BioHack~
To varying degrees, yeah.
Though I've found that the people with ADHD are the most understanding of my symptoms. No matter how hard my mom tries, and I genuinely appreciate and love the effort she puts in, it doesn't quite click for her.
impairment?
if only meds wouldn't have so many side effects
once i took 0,3 mg of risperidone instead of 0,25 and slept for whole 24 hours
my friend worried so much she almost killed me
Whenever we call up older people at work (which is frequently) they always have their tv running
Older generations will complain about younger generations being glued to their phones and laptops and meanwhile,
Yeahhh
and its always the news too how do you stand hearing about people dying just 24/7 man
Transistor (2014)
Oof well there's a dark joke I could make there but I won't because this isn't the server for that
My dad is old (eighties) and he fits that description to a T
I can't stand 24/7 news because they just cycle through the same things every hour
my grandpa falls asleep watching tv, its always the news or the channel forecast
I love living through the philosophical turmoil that's come from AI generated art
Humanity is being forced to learn a tough lesson about itself and it's fascinating
Practicing art myself, I'm not so worried it'll take over the art industry - or that there won't be a demand for digital art made by human hands. There's so many subcategories that would be difficult for AI to replicate at present.
I also see this pattern historically, where when you have something new that people think will be the end of the world, it instead ends up integrating itself quite positively in the world. Conversely, there's been many "this fad will never catch on" moments that have ruined more than one individual or industry.
AI still can't draw hands, so people will be still needed
(not every human can do it tho)
@muted smelt as a writer, all that makes me think is that an AI will either create something that is unintelligible, or it creates very solid Cookie-Cutter stories - what's missing there is a certain human imperfection that marks all good literary works, even if it's only a lack of insight.
That said, if they massively gain in popularity at some point in the future, well screw me I guess - just had to be born in the best decade do aspire to be both a dedicated writer and artist.
But to hell with it. I'll still do what I do because of what it means to me personally. And these works would have been created by someone who lived in these times.
its true that ai won't get things right. but they seem to be very strong co-writer. they can easily spit out a(or however many) very rough draft for a human to edit into something good
Then it's the same as ever - only the most well crafted and innovative manuscripts will make it past the publishers.
The very convoluted and broadly scoped world I've been prepping since 2015 is simply too complex to be churned out by AI since it combines dozens of ideas in really roundabout ways that fit the themes and style, all stuff that comes out of my unconscious during the night more often than not.
in the XIX century ppl were absolutely sure that machines will take away their jobs for good
but here we are, there are still workers whose only job is to sit and lay things from one belt to another
i think, when AI will be truly creative and will get rid of any flaws in its works, it will take so much time and power, it will still be cheaper to hire an artist/writer
also, somebody will have to make it work anyway
in the end, it's still human who decides what result is the most correct
AI can't make something itself
Only if you tell it what to do
And it can't make something original
well, as the saying goes, we stand on the shoulder of giants
is there really originality
The elements are pre-existing. It's the composition that can be novel.
even programming will eventually become generated from a prompt
question here how do you decide on majors when theres just
SO many things you want to do
there's already a tool that "assists" developers in writing blocks of code from a single comment
also me and my friends have messed around with the dreamily ai and its pretty fascinating
its not really able to be consistent but its actually pretty nice for a couple of things writing wise
hot take, but since it's trained on github repo data, which includes a lot of human written code, it will be as bad as human written code
and even if you use it correctly (to get boilerplate out of the way) AI still won't really be able to optimise for the use cases you're programming as of now
me
I wanna be a doctor or do something related to biology but at the same time I really like history and want to be a psychologist
idk
obv it's not there yet but I've worked at enough places to know most companies don't really care if code isn't perfectly clean
software engineering doesn't only include writing code :sip:
Can you fix my printer
so it's the same as ai art which doesn't get everything right but is good enough for companies to use
and that's why we get a lot of lackluster software solutions, at least it seems to me
usability bug that hasn't been fixed in two years? nah, here's a feature no one wants
yeah for me its like i could be a researcher or historian or do smth art related and theres So Many Things
also im in the capitol building and its pretty cool
kinda trippy and conflicting but still cool
also pretty damn cool to take a picture with the statues of two of my favorite history people (well one of my favorite history person and the other has been drilled in my head by the Hawaiian school system)
The giants stand on the shoulders of other giants
The saying is pointless
I want to be a physicist, historian, author, dictator, supervillain, engineer, deep space explorer, psychologist, pilot, admiral, game developer, chef, philosopher and that's all I think
Enjoy.
Memes are way more entertaining to learn philosophy through than just reading 💀
can those even be considered memes at this point
Where is that beautiful cupola located?
The capitol building
hey guys want to hear a terrible america fact i learned on this tour
sure as if I didnt know enough already
guess when the first official (to the state statue gallery thing) African american was added
3 months ago.
not surprising
Anyway the tour was fun
YESYES as scary as DC was I loved capitol building was my favorite, its strangely calming
same with the national library or whatever
it was so pretty too
im not sure what you're trying to say here
in case what i'm talking about isn't clear, this describes it eloquently https://fs.blog/shoulders-of-giants/
I'm saying there was no first giant
i guess thats true....because they were microbes!
i stole some sugar from the coffee machine thing (the rack with sweetener) in this hotel because i am a four year old girl but slight drawback now when i walk i sound like a maraca
sugar will do that to you
no i mean i literally have a sugar pack in my coat pocket and it shakes around and makes me sound like an instrument
Fair enough
Excuse me, why do you sound like a maracas?
I, uh, it's because of my...shoe.
Hmm?
Yes, my shoe-gar. *runs away*
Can confirm things for dead people are very grand
wasn't nietzsche's sister actually the fascist?
My heart says that I should go out to the forest and become moss
You have a good heart
You can if your corpse is left to decompose in a cold, temperate forest.
People keep telling me I shouldn't do that
my hungry ass can never work in a morgue
You americans do NOT know how to shave ice correctly
Why is it so
Hard
And soild
And the flavoring tastes bad too theres not enough sugar the whole point is its basically sugar
(Vermont gets a pass)
time for your maracas sugar to shine
GENIUS
i actually ate it earlier because as i said i am a four year old girl
theres@more right down the hall though if i wanted
also i got a hat
i like my hat
does anyone here like true crime and like creepy pasta kind of stuff
yeah
what do you like about it? ive just like never got its appeal and now im curious
creepy pasta stuff for me
well more so urban legends
it's interesting to see what urban legends exist within various cultures around the world, especially cryptids
oh yeah i get that
for me, it's interesting culturally; gives cute modern-day fairytales kinda
for true crime- i'm more so interested in the weirder ones like art theft and art replication
i used to be interested in the darker crimes, but for the most part, i stay away from them now
whats the appeal in hearing horrible people do horrible things idk
it can depend on the case and on the listener's interest/s. for a lot of people, they want to remain vigilant and hope to do so by reviewing what the perpetrator did. there's been explorations into why so many white women are into it, and that's part of it
some others are interested in the psychology of the people involved in the cases, adjacent to remaining vigilant and therefore hoping to protect themselves from future perceived dangers
ah
yeah as someone whos worried enough that partly explains why im not super into it
i think the psychology is kind of interesting but i dont like personally care about it, its more of a “huh. peoples brains work like that.“
yeah. what kinda turned me away was the lack of respect true crime people give the family and friends of these victims. additionally, some true crime cases feel like they really villainise mental health (see: eliza lam)
it's come up recently with the dahmer film on netflix. at least one family member has brought up that they found the movie insulting
also the true crime fanbase really puts of off with the way some of them idolize these things
not even specifically the people just like the stories
yeah the true crime community that existed on tumblr was whack
a lot of the true crime people i know/knew weren't part of that crowd, thank goodness, but it sucks that crowd exists
no real updates all just fix voiceline and mertch mah this ded
wouldnt make sense for a game about hades to be alive would it
this guy would prefer to have paid zag skins released weekly
theyre playing my singing monsters i forgive them banger game tbh
Omg I just thought of the coolest idea, so like imagine a world where everyone are witches, and the way they have kids is that they brew a potion in a big cauldron and add different ingredients and spells and other potions to it and it gives the baby powers like if you put dragon's glands, kerosene and a fire stream spell scroll in it the baby will be able to breathe fire
Then you let it stay overnight and in the morning there's a baby sleeping in the cauldron on a gel bed or something like that
that seems dangerous man just image doing deep breathign and suddenly your house is on fire
Lovr the concept though
That's why if you're brewing a baby with fire breath make sure to master fire protection spells first and get fire resistant furniture and clothing
I don't know what's powerpuff girls so maybe
oH! And also the main ingredient is a special egg-like thing from one of The Masters, who are a special type like dragon type they're immortal and very powerful and can be anything like a small 3cm long purple squirrel with four glowing diamond shaped yellow eyes or an absolutely enormous squid who is extremely fast and can swim fly and walk and they are always a master of something like maybe a region sometimes even a planet or maybe of a magic technique of some kind of animals of stars even and they read your mind and won't give you your egg if you are a bad person and would be a bad parent
ooh interesting
Man im so tired constantly and the night i need to wwake up early i cant sleep at all
I've decided
that I do not wish to turn 34
and so I will be attempting to force the interruption of linear time by sheer force of will
apologies for any inconvenience
cool

but who's will? they must be a decent person to help you with such endeavour
I haven't found them yet
Please tell him I said hi
Does it hurt brother
@ will (won't)
Hello, I joined because, I am a french student in 3D programming and I would really like to do an internship in your studio for february 2023 to July 2023. Do you know where I can apply for an intership in gameplay programming ? Thank you
Here is my link tree where you can find all my informations including my resume or my games portfolio
https://linktr.ee/doriangrdn
Check their webiste
There should be a form thing
I dont think theyre looking for that though
yeah okay, i'll check. I ask there because i know internships are hard to find, that's why i ask to the team directly
Team wont probably see it here
I want to sound like zapp brannigan but feminine
I don't even want a physical presence anymore, I just want to ride around in people's heads seeing out there eyes and injecting understanding of my thought processes right into their heads
and being able to hop from head to head
with consent obvi
Mood
I'd imagine 99% would not consent to you getting inside their heads.
If I'm a ghost why would I need consent I can't affect anything
If I had a ring that made me invisible and I could do whatever I wanted and no one would know or hold me responsible, then why would consent be needed?
quick problem, the ring will kill you
I'm not talking about the ring of power. The dilemma of Glaucon's ring existed since ancient times - this is supposing the ring has no negative side effects.
It's a moral quandary: would you stick to your principles if you suffered no consequences for your actions?
At least directly.
I'm not a good person
But I would stick to my principles
However
My principles are wonky
I'll never break them but they're very situational and specific and with multiple layers of conditions
I'll take that as a no then.
Probably?
I don’t know tbh
If i could kill the corrupt king and get no consequences then maybe murder would be okay
It depends
I like how you the example given was morally justified. What about if you wanted something in a pinch? Whether money, a certain position, perhaps a specific partner? Or what if someone had wronged you in your life and you could punish them and not be held accountable?
Wells Fargo deserves to be stolen from.
I would kill a corrupt king even with consequences tbh
For the Greater Good
I'm Tau
Tau-Indi Bosoka?
I liked the farsight enclaves because I wanted a Tau battlesuit that could melee people half effectively and it was hilarious
I've got a fun ethics question for ya
if there were a cheap effective test where you could test any 3 year old and get a percentage chance back that they'd grow up to exhibit strong dark triad traits, what would be the ethical thing to do with this knowledge.
definitely not a specific partner
Honestly i dont know
kill the us government then please
I appreciate your honesty.
Back to you Mr God though, I do wonder how much you would support the Tau Empire since they practice the same insidious tactics that the worst totalitarian states in history have employed at the cost of millions of lives.
Then again, almost every faction in the WH universe is either totalitarian or authoritarian.
Well I mean tau relative to the rest of the wh40k universe is by far the most humane
Me when I kill every corrupt government official and go to prison for multimillion homicide
Sometimes I doubt I'm asexual but I'm always disproven quickly
the cool thing about categories is you don't really need to fit nicely in them
Am I Agender? A demiboy? Aro? Ace? Bi? who knows, I don't.
They're not some bindings or something
Agender AroAce people be like:
Hah
Should I download tumblr it seems nice from tumblr subreddit but is it anything like it actually
the tumblr subreddit makes tumblr bearable
What's the category that designates a hatred for people as a whole?
Misanthropy?
Tuesday?
the monster high theme song slaps too hard
It's nice for the most part. Avoid The Usual People and remember to reblog and you'll be fine.
akulya!
if i could become invisible, i'd get all the Blahajs available
take two or three and give all the rest to needy ppl
and then prolly murder all the members of russian government one by one
Btw remembering to reblog is actually vital, both because it's how the site functions and because not doing so WILL get you blocked by people for looking like a bot
i am slowly but surely nurturing a deepfound hate for tsvn because of it botching branch merge requests completely
SO TRUE
VALID
i love mine hes just a friend
i wanted to get the giant one but I’d have to take it home and its like 30$
Well that sounds weird
Gamers will always justify paying 60+ for a game but their hearts wither at the mere thought of a measly 30 for the Blahaj of their dreams.
As a gaymer maximum I paid for a game is around 10$
Wait there's a giant one
Or is there a smaller one
Mine is about a meter long
I would really love a 3 meter blahaj
the most I paid was 999 usd for half life alyx
but at least it came with a free valve index
Nah, it's just that no one has coded a bot that actually reblogs correctly and most Tumblr users are not interested in being followed by bots.
yo the stop oil guys finally did something good
they spray painted an aston martin dealership
good
their cars suck and nobody affords them eitherway
Why are people so mad at them souping the painting
Like they obviously knew it's behind a glass
If they wanted to damage it they would break the glass and tear it or something
Besides the obvious discussion about what kinds of protest are ‚acceptable‘ (which will always happen no matter the protest), I‘d say it‘s not that obvious it‘s protected by glass; most normal oil paintings in galleries are not protected by glass, and while the sunflower painting isn‘t that unknown, it‘s not that famous for people to immediately think of the connection. And fueling the discussion is also the disconnect between the object of the protest and what they‘re protesting against
Thankfully the majority of fine art is so niche that most wouldn't think to vandalise it to make a point.
Also iirc those people are funded by an oil baron.
seems debatable, looks like the only links they have is Aileen Getty who inherited a lot of oil money, but as far as the jerusalem post is concerned isn't directly involved in oil unless particularly "Undercover"
Would be pretty epic if she actually uses inherited oil money for climate activist purposes ngl
seems like one of the few ethical uses of that money
Having lots of money usually means you have to continue gaming the system to maintain it unfortunately.
Unless you got it from divorcing someone else in the u.s, at which point the system is so rigged you can actively attempt to give away your money and still make profit. See: bezos's ex wife
She has a course on masterclass
Wait no wrong billionaire
I got a masterclass subscription recently and it's like a more expensive, slightly sillier version of SkillShare
Maybe not so much silly as it is less practical? But it has a rock climbing course I'm curious to check out 🧗♂️
I might get skillshare purely for bernadatte banners hand sewing course
I don't know about skillshare but those sciency youtubers keep advertising some streaming service where they all have exclusive content I forgot how it's named tho I might get it someday
well also how the heck am i gonna fit it in one carry on backpack and suitcase that already had a ton of stuff
@feral chasm forgot heirs. And by my understanding you actually have to put effort into unwinding the wealth from the mechanisms that gather more of it for you. Sure you're complicit in the actions of all the companies you've invested but the wealth managers and accountants largely keep you making more money without you having to do anything about it. Think about some of the great US heirs, billionaires who are also idiots
'the system' makes me sad
how much food are being made nonstop in factories around the world, right now
how much will sit in warehouses until expiry
what about the hungry
sorry just had to vent
agreed
Hmmm I wonder is it hard to make a fake egg and fill it with nitroglycerin or something like that
Front squats suck. Signed, my deltoids
Well to introduce myself I am a professional graphic designer and logo designer, doing commission based work at discounts currently. Would you like to see some of my work?
I'm curious about the stats on this - given current population metrics, do we produce more than what is required to sustain ourselves comfortably.
Whether it's food, fuels to power our homes and transportation or the things that make us happy, do we truly discard more than we should? It certainly doesn't seem so from what I've seen among the middle and lower bands of the population (and in a "rich" country at that).
You wouldn't see it among them because the issue is mostly at the distribution level. Rich people who'd rather waste food than let a poor person have it without paying.
I remember talking to a republican coworker of mine about how it's projected that total healthcare costs would drop in the US if it implemented a single payer system, and I basically got told straight up that they're OK paying more for healthcare if it means that other people will be excluded from it.

Right? I thought that too - I just didn't think these people constituting at most 10% of the world population are pushing all of the world into hell single-handedly.
i dont have any stats. just a thought that occurred to me after dealing with some logistics people
The recent dragon show episode was pretty nice.
yeah thats the inherent individualist values this country is founded on at work there. its genuine insanity
I only just realized Alucard is Dracula backwards

We need to combine stoicism nihilism lao and buddhism to create the ultimate philosophy of calm
Never
lizard calm
lizard calm > hog wild
reject eternal calm
embrace perpetual fury
Nihillists when I suddenly begin to feast with their innards
(They suddenly want to live now)
Non-nihilists when I torture them violently for 20 years(they suddenly don't want to live now)
not being a nihilist doesn't mean "doesn't want to live," not being a nihilist is like, what i do in the Universe matters, what i do with other people matters, my actions matter, i matter. sometimes life is so, so, so incredibly awful. but that doesn't mean it doesn't matter.
i was a nihilist in my early-mid 20s because i was miserable and couldn't reconcile there being such immense pain with a Universe having any meaning. but pain doesn't stop things from meaning things, pain doesn't stop the possibility of joy. nothing is painful forever in the same way nothing is joyful forever. things get better and things get worse. and no matter what, they matter.
this. its good

yes exactly
i like the concept of absurdism but I haven't read much about it
Is there a name for a philosophy of radical empathy except for those who can effortlessly afford enough therapy to fix their problems?
ah christ this guy
must be tough. rats probably arent too cooperative with censusing
it's not radical empathy if it's only for the people you think deserve it. it takes a lot mote than therapy to fix your problems.
aye, it was a joke that folks like elon musk have really tested my pre-2016 personal philosophy
i feel ya
i love therapy ❤️ both physical and mental health therapy
i have bad memories with PT
i also literally live in the most middle of nowhere town on an island in the middle of the pacific ocean also known as a grave of watery death
this all to say there are not many good pt's here anyway
If there's one thing I can pass on to the younger generations its do your PT
I have one wrist that has arthritis and tendonitis and limited range of movement
and it sucks
finding a good PT seems to be difficult in general. it can also depend on the condition you have. for my condition, i need dry needling and phyiscal manipulation, and not a lot of physios do that here
i also need TENS therapy, apparently, but finding an appropriate TENS device here isn't as easy as it is in the philippines, ironically, so when i next go back to the philippines i might book a physio appt there
oh interesting
it's also incredibly annoying that a number of physios i've had complain about cancel culture, for some reason. very specific thing to type out but it's been such a common experience for me
Not that you should do this but a TENS machine doesn't seem that hard to make....
ocelot i love your attitude
"not" is the key word here
I was just saying cuz I was reading about it >.>
