There is a single-player campaign mode that alternates story-heavy visual novel-style segments with sports segments and there is a separate multiplayer mode to play the sports matches against the AI or a human opponent.

#

I think everything's unlocked from the get-go in the multiplayer mode so I would recommend playing the story mode first to avoid big spoilers.

So, the part of each character's ending that's tied to another character has different details whether they're up or down, but it usually follows the same gist: the big difference is whether they end up together or they end up separated. For the sisters,

ending up together (regardless of whether they're up or down) ||means that Pamitha tries to reconcile, Tamitha assaults her and cripples her wing. After THAT, they remain extremely cold but, like, 'at least' on speaking terms. It sort of gives Pam what she wanted but at the cost of being able to fly.||

The thing about Pyre is that you can lose every single Rite and still finish the game and have a unique and fulfilling experience

(I know people who have deliberately done a run where they threw every Rite, just to see how the plot and characters would adjust and respond to it 🤣 )

I really liked Hades and enjoyed Bastion and Transistor, but have had a tough time getting into Pyre--unless I'm missing something, the roleplay elements are quite light. I don't mind the sports-based gameplay but it hasn't engaged me as rapidly as Supergiant's other games. Someone tell me what I'm missing

You're missing the opportunity to get to know a colorful cast of characters, which is the main appeal of the game - unlocking chunks of backstory and figuring out what makes these people tick.

I may have come on a bit strong with it. 😅 I'll rephrase - in my experience, most (though certainly not all!) people who love Pyre, love it for its cast of NPCs and the VN-type interaction with them, rather than the Rites gameplay.

It makes sense that players who've come to SGG through Hades, which centered and refined its combat mechanics, might not gel well with Pyre, in which the main point is talking to everyone a bunch, and you can throw every match and still progress unimpeded to the finale.

#

There are players who love the Rites and have a lot of fun playing them! But when people rave about Pyre, they usually seem to do so about the writing, not the combat.

#

I don't think that's a dig on either game, they just cater respectively to different sets of player preferences.

I came from Transistor(it’s apparent, lol), SGG threw everything out the window with Pyre.
It’s cool to have more than one character speaking.
But it’s always a good thing when you learn that it’s similar to something like Rocket league or Overwatch’s Lucio Ball gamemode

it took me about 15 hours to beat it the first time, but it might be a little longer or shorter depending on your reading speed, how much of the book you read, how many practice rites you do and how much you take your time in general with stuff, etc

Yeah. Pyre takes a while to be able to learn, and then it requires a lot of muscle memory as well as quick reflexes. I prefer controller on PC as mouse required me thinking about 2 things at once

That’s the thing—I didn’t get that roleplaying aspect from Pyre so far. Maybe I just haven’t advanced far enough into the storyline yet. But it’s a big difference from say Hades where the backstory chatter comes up quite early and prominently

the thing is: some languages take advantage of the whole vocal cords and the tongue (and it's positioning too)
English (especially the North american accent) is so light compared to something like Spanish (where the words come out a bit heavy than usual)

and I see some struggle with speaking with a heavy accent, because they weren't learnt how to do it
