Yeah, catgirls are only the obvious fantasy race if you watch lots of anime/read lots of manga... outside of Japanese stuff, there aren't that many catpeople.
Most obvious fantasy race for me is dwarves though. Short creatures fond of drink and industry.
(although they do go hand in hand with elves, usually, often as age old enemies)
#off-topic-discussion if you're going to branch off into just talking about fantasy races, please
hey guys, what was the service you were using to play multiplayer pyre online?
Parsec!
Random thought: If SSG ever has a big player meet-up, it needs to be called Pyre Festival

extra hour in the pit of milithe
AAAAAAAAA
Omg
The music ❤
^
with you all the way
Why can't it be called the Super Mega Supergiant meetup or something?
Hey
Does anyone happen to have the link to that ditty vid about Jodariel?
People from the fan server should know what I'm talking about probably
"I want Jodariel to pick me up in her big strong arms..."
It has been sent to me, thanks Spike 🙇
I've never heard of this, but I'd love to see it as well.
Same please !
Not my creation, but I know what these guys are talking about
supergiant games makes good video games but all i care about is Jodariel Pyre and her Giant Muscles. sorry
👀
related to darren's answer about how his methods have/haven't changed: the whole "ooh, not in a closet any more!!" will forever make me laugh
and may we all know that privilege 🙏
yes
jim morrison recorded his vocals in a bathroom because he couldn't afford an echo chamber
i'm late but i love that video
also idk if things have changed @eager hatch, but i asked him about that at pax east last year, and he said there aren't plans atm
and then because i mentioned vagrant song he just rattled off what he knew off the top of his head about how to play it
he's a cool dude
i wish we were getting sheet music though :(
roblox_death_sound.wav
guess I'm gonna have to study harder
ah well, more rewarding that way in the long run I think
thanks for telling me though
pyre is shaping out to be supergiant's weird kid
ti'zo: why hello there my little readerling
me: omg a talking inp
“im going to listen to the pyre soundtrack while studying”
makes up au’s while listening to the soundtrack instead
what if the downside is actually the surface, but the commonwealth is underground...
aaaaand im suddenly having ignarius feels
can’t post a screenshot
F
iggy ilu stop being hard on yourself
i swear on my next playthrough, im gonna let him win
ive been listening to the pyre soundtrack for over a year
darren korb ur a blessing
ignarius is an interesting character to me - as much as i dislike the weird "romance" (in heavy sarcasm quotes) plot between him and jodi - because his crime was doing his job too well
it's been too long since I played, what was his job again'
he was a bouncer for a nightclub
a commonwealth official apparently got under his skin while he was working and ignarius beat him up, and got exiled for it - though i've always wondered if ignarius actually was justified in doing it and it's just Good Ol' Commonwealth Corruption that got him exiled
"Don't you know who I am?"
"You're throwing up everywhere is who you are. Get out"
$75 well spent. Just ordered the limited signed art of Jodi from the Supergiant Store. I’ll begin my collection of the rest of their artwork soon...
How some homebrew Pyre roleplay play out:
- Posts come semi-frequently, all is well;
- We all try to live our lives and flesh out some rules, so the thing slows down;
- Some feller is having less interest in the game but keeps trying to write, and since there is literally no one else we can't just ditch them, so the game slows almost to a creaking halt;
- The doubtful feller eventually leaves, just in time as we found someone fresh;
- The game resumes, with us still having our lives to live out;
- Now the year has passed, and we still didn't even have our first training Rite.
has your whole party even been exiled yet
Somehow, yes. I mean, we don't roleplay as Commonwealth officials, and they are very efficient with their work.
I always found the world around Pyre and survival in the Downside to be more interesting for a roleplay setting than the Rites themselves
Imagine just minding your business somewhere in the downside and you see the stars gradually dying off and one day some dude tells you "oh yeah in case you still wanted to leave you cant anymore"
Imagine minding your business somewhere in the commonwealth and then some giant horned woman who looks like she’s about to kill someone just falls up a waterfall
Liberated exiles going back to the commonwealth be like (mario pipe noise) let's start a rebellion
I liked to think that liberated exiles just randomly interrupt commonwealth government meetings
Like “ok what should we do abou” suddenly dog
Is there even a determined location you arrive to after going up the waterfall
I think so
Or do you just get yeeted somewhere in the world
gets randomly teleported directly back over the exile river after liberation
“Aww come on!”
at least you'll get to listen to the Downside Ballad again
There is totally a defined location for all returning from the Downside. They are greeted by the Commonwealth officials, after all.
there's just a person-sized mail tube in one of the council officials' offices
Thwoooomp
How many people here have 'Will of the Scribes' stuck in their head. I can't remember when I last heard it but it is still playing out in my head right now
There was supposed to be a question mark there

In the flame has been perpetually stuck in my head for over a year now

I'm partial to obsessively rerunning 'Mourning Song' in the old noggin myself
I like Vagrant Song myself.
"Can you play something to cheer is up?"
sings sorrowfully
Speaking of music tracks... Does there exist any Never to Return instrumentals? I wanted to try and make something original for my Awakened...
the closest there is is the white lute version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j12bAhzNd_4

Of course! How could I forget this one?
Thanks a lot!
no probs
Finally getting around to playing Pyre
how do ya like it so far ?? such a good game isn’t it
Literally just started
But the channel I mod for started playing it yesterday, which was good motivation for me to finally play it myself so I don't get it all spoiled watching the stream
I watched the first stream which covered maybe... 3 or 4 Rites at most, so I've seen that much already
And yes, it is a Good Game™
ooh great!! it’s a better experience if you play on your own tho for sure
how do you like... jodi
Jodariel is lovely, from what I've seen
It'll probably take me a bit to get past what I've already seen on stream
Maybe an hour or two, since I'm not reading out every line to an audience 😆
do take your time, the game has a lot of lore and it takes a while to let it sink in admittedly
Just playing the first tutorial Rite now
moustache or no moustache?

He’s just taking a nap right here..!

I chose to send Hedwyn back first and I'm very conflicted right now
I thought about throwing the match, but decided not to
Why you do this, Pyre?
pyre is the saddest game of all time
I finished Pyre about a month ago, and I think I wasn't even halfway through the story when it took the spot for my favourite game
Funnily enough it took that spot from Bastion
i sent hedwyn back second-to-last and felt awful about keeping him for so long but he's my favourite and i wanted him to stick around :c
i think he was the 3rd or 4th guy to leave my team
having to liberate jodi first was very painful
Hedwyn was the first to go for me, I always felt guilty that one had to leave before the other, like I was valuing one of them more than someone else, and that our opponents never got to leave as well.
I can already tell that I'm going to have to play Pyre multiple times
Too much of a completionist not to
Coming up on my second Liberation Rite
who ya thinking of libbing
welp, hopefully you can succeed without the doggo
¯_(ツ)_/¯
oh, what'd you name the vagabond
Xae
Whelp, farewell Rukey
Xae's the best choice
a;slkdjf;oiawej GAAAH that was an annoying Rite
(Isle of Khaylmer)
'cause I just had to take up Bertrude's challenge of using the Yslach Titan Star to weaken Udmildhe
The imps respawning when I'm one step away from the pyre and insta-detonating on me
well, at least youll have a better time against udmildhe in the future
True, though I don't think I'll be using that Titan Star again anytime soon
Well, I threw the match against the Essence because Pamitha wanted her sister to go free
oh my god i hated it when I beat the Essence because I felt so guilty
I was torn, but I like Pamitha and didn't want her to be sad
SamE but I'm trying to do a playthrough where I get as many people as possible out sobs
I also felt bad beating the Tempers
i liberated pam against the essence and i have no regrets
same
Who didnt
I didn't. Pamitha was one of the three I left at the end
pamitha: please let tamitha go free
me: ha, and also no.
"i know every other word out of her mouth is yelling about how much she hates all of us and me especially, but please??"
Screw Tamitha. She's too mean.
And this is why she stays in the Downside.
Also, she would make Highwing Remnants attack. Against the plans of peaceful rebellion. We don't do that here.
i need to replay pyre bc i forgot most of the pamitha/tamitha drama
Dramitha?
Yo
Is there a codex on Gilman's voice lines?
I looked through the other docs but uhh
I dont see gilman's lines
i don’t think his voice lines have been transcribed yet
I can look into it when I get some time
I assume you mean in Sahrian, and not just the text of his lines in English?
Or
Just had what appeared to be the "better" ending; was wondering what would've happened if i've sent all the nastiest people in commonwealth
I've had muh sympathy for them, still
i only did hedwyn's lines bc he's my favourite
I like gilman’s lines mostly because they’re cheerful and most of them are exclamatory
he does not lose honor
that knight is something else
I really loved Gilman
While at first he was boring to me
But when he faced his triumverate all by himself i was like "DAMN"
Gilman: does this ^
Me: oh worm?

I love listening to this no matter how many times.
supergiant makes such good games that i want to replay them but then remember
i have no time
they good but they are also longer than a single playthrough allows (esp for pyre)
Friend of mine asked how canon this was, so i said "exact lore"
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/302522757264965632/551154865548689418/tumblr_pnk4vbSfFW1r57zlo_540.png
https://agenderjulian.tumblr.com/post/183081442333 lets post sources please!
Thx was on phone and friend only posted image
a common ask. but i don't think so.
same
eh, i really liked the gameplay
it just got a little repetitive for me
I actually never finished it, so I'm in the process now
It stops being repetitive as difficulty level increases
The Rites can get pretty intense as you move up the number of Titans you're invoking beforehand
that implies that I'm good enough to increase it lol
You'll never know your limits 'til you try and break them!
I think I tried to invoke all the titans on my playthrough
Like
On every rite
And id restart the rites until I won so yeah
Lmao
I've been thinking about going back for an 'all Titans all the time' playthrough
I've never restarted a Rite ever though, it kinda takes too much of the pressure off
I didn't realize you could until today
Don't know if that's a good thing for me or not lol
It already has a lot of Discord possibilities, no?
I mean, there exist multiple Pyre Discords already, depending on what this fellow’s looking for
Does anyone know if there's any plans to bring Pyre to the Switch? I found some articles on Google saying no, but they seemed pretty old. Curious if this has changed.
they're kinda busy at the moment!
I noticed. Was just updating Hades.
Hoping that makes its way to the Switch too, but yeah... I'm just happy to be able to continue to support these guys. They make amazing games.
So, what's the thoughts of the developers on allowing the Scribes to become a genuine religion on earth? Lotsa good tenets to believe in!
id argue that the faith failed the commonwealth
Only after it had been twisted by those in power. Though, I suppose, isn't that always the case
Mmmmm, imma say that making it a religion is a bad idea, especially since It’s a video game... I think it is better to find where those tenets came from that inspired the game
"You could make a religion outta thi-"
"No, don't"
Ah well, it was a wild idea. I was partly wondering that if it takes a science fiction author to make a horrid religion, would it take a fantasy-football video game to make a good one?
we cant fight fire with pyre
Yeah, but everyone knows you can fight fire with a Celestial Orb
Thinkin about hasAJHooted()
thank u for reminding me
Me manifesting in this server once in a blue moon: sniffe
God tho imagine being able to manifest your aura in the capital like firefighters just woosh over the fires
Instant extinguish
lmao soliam murr just wanted the celestial orb so he could do some firefighting
Soliam Murr: we need the orb to fight fires!
Gol: So like... water
Khalmer: blocked,
orb is water balloon
it's not even a particularly good one
Sandra’s been drowning for a thousand years
F
noxalas!
noxalas!
noxalas!!
Congrats!! You three are a triumvirate now. 🎉 👏
🎶their journey began... in the su-per-giant games server....🎶
Where Caitlin arrived...
Cait is a reader
Well, if you can read this message then you are indeed a reader
If you can read this, you're going to the Downside
oh no
all games need a narrator that roasts the players like archduke does
aj but hes in other games
YESS
Replace glados with aj....
a duet
😮
no one would survive
(does testing for aj) (does rites for glados)
You know I love Tariq and Celeste’s names
After I found out what Tariq’s name meant I actually used it to name my character’s parental figure/custodian
Because they are space themed
I named the custodian Catariq
Because giant lynx
Also honestly
You could replace the Voice with Glados and it wouldnt be different
I believe in you, you'll do great
hmm... than and sandra... are both greenn....
You have a Type 💚
i prefer to be safe w the rites bc i just want everyone to go home
Is it possible to send all the chars home?
the vagabond girl is the only person i feel okay about leaving in the downside
no :(
a a a a aaa
You can only send 7 out of nine.
it makes me so sad
It's supposed to.
darn i thought there was some type of true end where you could send everyone/everyone minus yourself
No. Not always is there anything resembling a "perfect ending".
All we can do is strive to do the best thing.
mainly bc i wanted to go back with sandra so she could be somewhat free
Was this not the whole idea behind such mechanics?
yeah it was
I wonder if I really needed to specify that Pyre was my favourite game here.
I mean, look at my profile picture.
im pretty sure sandra is my steam pfp
but i might have changed it
nope shes still there :,)
I have bought a comission to make my custom character from Pyre universe.
I should really get back to replaing pyre
ooh
There's no commitment stronger for a common man.
@stoic junco nice garr ^_^
i rlly like the way that the game forces u to leave people behind tbh
i need to finish pyre now i finally got a controller, i feel like mouse was a mistake for me 😛
stuff like that makes me feel so bad and i love it
Man, what!? I could swear that KB&M was way easier for me than controller
Yeah. You get more invested into characters AND you get to play and to know later characters. If only because you are left with no choice.
one of my favourite things about pyre was how it made me feel bad for the opposing side
to the point i wanted to lose to give them a chance
like thats so... .. . painful
@vestal bluff
For me as well, but I have always played with no controller.
I let Dalbert and Almer win a Liberation against me
i didnt feel bad for tamitha
Fate 💜
also from a gameplay perspective making you give up (generally) your most used character is so good
yep!
Do you remember Titan Souls?
Ooh, yeah, the first Liberation I lost was against Tamitha
The game with one arrow, where all die in one hit?
although i tried to hold onto hedwyn as long as possible
Her team is tough
I have beaten it with keyboard.
And it doesn't use mouse. You aim directionally. It was very hard.
tamitha was the only rite i had to restart
@vestal bluff
IMO the Essence is the toughest team. Maybe rivaled by the Withdrawn.
that sounds awful
I've never restarted a Rite. Never knew you could, and even if I did, I wouldn't
i only figured out how to use a controller on pc a few weeks ago when i bought dmc collection
Gotta accept the outcome man, it makes it way more meaningful
@placid cosmos
It was better than you think. Long experience with keys helps quite a lot
Aye, the Withdrawn I think are the strongest overall
Nah, the Essence's Liberation bonus isn't that bad. It actually makes them much more vulnerable to Rukey and Sir Gilman
Harps are usually OK on defence, but they're not actually that fast, so if you let them grab the Orb, they'll throw it to you and then you can just take off
What's the Withdrawn Liberation bonus, again?
The pools of stuff wherever someone gets banished?
I think so
this is a little off topic but how many people let freed volfred like,, do most people do that
I definitely gotta do a True Nightwings, All-Titans-All-The-Time playthrough at some point
WRT Freeing Volfred, it's generally just kinda hard to do, since he comes in so late in the game, you'll rarely have him in your top 3 by level
He's also one of the weakest in the Rites, so you'll generally not play him that often either
Oh, nice! Was he the last one you got out?
uhh
let me think for a sec
i dont think he was the last
i think ti'zo was the last one i freed actually
If you liberated him last, you'd remember, 'cause that'd be against Oralech, and there's specific dialogue they have during the match!
It's a hard one
Man, iirc, Ti'zo was the second character I liberated, ever, after Jodi
i think i went
jodi hedwyn rukey
pamitha
then it must have been volfred ti'zo and myself
So, Gilman, Bertrude and the Moontouched Girl remained, eh?
yeah
They are the three who probably minded the least
xae got to stay with almer which was my plan ever since i met almer
Of all the characters in the game, I honestly think I like the Fate the best
They've got a touching story
Especially when they beat you in the Liberation
aagh

I want to do a playthrough where I let everyone win
As valid an option as any
I've done it, and there's interesting dialogue that goes on that you wouldn't see otherwise
oooh,,, i hafta do it now skks
w-what
Yeah, if you lose every single Rite along the way, you get some, uh, interesting dialogue
Volfred gives you a talking-to
It'd be funny if he took over and you couldn't control anymore
"you do know we're trying to get out of there right"
Alma, do you still have the screenshot from when that happened to you?
It was great
i think i do
honestly if i didnt put it on the easy difficulty thatd be me
if not i will go hunting for em lol
i went full evil for that run
||i did all the trials.... simply to reject sandra in the end||
also i was rude to everyone all the time
did you escape at the end
i,,,,,,,,are you chaotic evil
oh yes
Fear
||i manipulated oralech, since he won obviously||
i haven't been quite that level of evil but i have done the "manipulate" outcome
i still have the video of that i think
man its rough. i legit felt so bad when i did it
yall EVIL
listen i wanted to see what would happen!
it was like my third playthrough
i usually dont bc i feel bad
but it was like... fun, in a way
also, i did find them
YIKES
volfred is amgry*
OOF
dad does not approve

volfred's face is the cherry on the cake
also i went so out of my way to fail every rite that i planned carefully to not get the no-show
Man, yeah, that's a "son, I'm not mad, just disappointed" if I've ever heard one
oh i have the other conversation too
Oh does it get worse
no the one with sandra
Oh
oh no
its a lot of screenshots tho bc i have the whole thing, so i might put it in an imgur album
Oh, never saw that line. Even during my evil Reader playthrough I did my best to win since I was playing on the hardest difficulty, only throwing the Liberation Rites. So I had succeeded at some Rites when Volfred showed up.
losing every rite once volfred shows up to pin the blame on him
i wanted to do true nightwing but i didnt wanna like, try to win, so i just made it my all-lose one 🤷
"you tried to have me leave, this is what u get"
achievement hunting while seeing more of the game, i lose in the game but i win irl >:)
💚 Sandra 💚
there we go
UGH hold on theyre out of order. sorry
one of the images isnt even loading
i can also share the text but i would not be able to spoiler tag in that case
huh. i'd never actually tried, i just assumed it wouldn't work
oh
¯_(ツ)_/¯
go ahead then dfkjghk
we're talking about ||choosing not to take the orb||, right?
yes
okies
i'll just share the part where that actually happens and not the conversation preceding it bc that obviously doesn't change
||```diff

sorry for the Giant Black Box
just letting you all know that to this day ||"There is nothing more i can do for you, and nothing you would do for me."|| just absolutely crushes me
i have literally lost sleep over this line
Sad Sandra is really tough to hear for me too, for some reason
It's well set-up by ||"in my place, I felt that I had little left to lose."||
wait guys, a new development, i now have an emoji to express the emotion when reading this specifically:

oh my god
no
do u think,, sandra is in the orb in zagreus's room
and if so is she like the LET ME IIIIN meme but LET ME OUUUUUT
i need to hear that interaction lol
or sandra and achilles both trying to train zag and having arguments over how things should be done hahaha
do you? do you REALLY?

zag: is not resigned to his fate, still trying to escape
sandra: you are like a little baby. watch this
she pulls receipts of all 473 years shes been in there
i think its close to double that kdfjghk
i guessed shes been there a thousand years and she was like "actually yeah its coming up soon" and i was like H?
its in the 800s
Sandra was probably tied for my fav character from the game with Gilman.
i,, didnt like gilman
lmao me neither
well
i liked him, but not nearly as much as i liked the other characters
okay same
tbh i left him in the downside rip
Sandra is probably my favorite character of the game. And since Pyre is my favorite SGG game, that's meaning something
Jodi, Pam, and Doggo where mine
if i had to pick then sandra is definitely my fav, but pam is a close second
and rukey is a close 3rd
lmao, i really do love all the characters (except gilman rip)

i do like him! just not as much as everyone else
Never really liked rukey, sadly. Or at least not enough. But really liked pam, gil and absolutely loved ti'zo

Are y'all talking personality, or, like, within the Rites?
The sad part is that I can't play the game anymore. My first and only playthrough was so perfect, so deeply emotional that I can't bear to change it
Personality
same
and yeah i was talking bout personality
ive only played pyre once and i plan to replay it when ive almost forgotten most of what happens in the game
OK, this is something I just don't get, I guess - there's a whole tonne of possibilities out there, all the opportunities to see how stuff unfolds in a different way, that drove me to make multiple playthrus
yeah, i understand you failer but i cant really do that lol
gilman is fun to play as
Like, after I finished it the first time, I just sat there for a half minute after the credits, and then I'm like, "OK, I must do that again"
i was crying when i beat it lol
I needed an entire day to metabolize all that happened, and after that I wrote a "thank you" mail to SGG. Never, ever done this before. Never
Yeah, I finished it at like 3 in the morning, so I didn't start again right away
But, like, that was what made me join up on this server
There had to be people who loved it the same way, I thought
And here y'all are

Anyway, it seems to me that pyre is the least appreciated of the 3 games made by SGG. Is this just a wrong feeling or is it actually plausible?
I believe it's sold the least out of the three, yeah
its too different from other games to be popular
That's so sad... I loved it with such an intensity that made me "emotionally drained" for a week
i feel you. i still tear up whenever bound together starts playing
Strands in a braid, 'til the end!

Yeah, what a fantastic soundtrack
I listen to all the various Never to Returns (Nevers to Return?) on shuffle every now and then
pyre also has my fav ost out of all the sgg games
True
But actually the one that always get to me is In the Flames
Don't know why, but I adored it
*adore
crap, i dont have a fav pyre song. night howlers and never to return is up there. oh and the old ways
i love all the songs
It's difficult to not love Master Korb
The Celestial KOrb

he's in my top 3 fav video game composers
okay tbh
I didn’t like Gilman either when I first played
but on subsequent playthroughs I started to like him just as much as the others
THIS KNIGHT IS OVERJOYED
Honestly, my first impressions of everyone were really positive
i'm not head over heels for gilman but i appreciate him and i'm fond of him
Even, like, the opponents, for the most part
initially the honour and glory thing might seem a little one note but as the game goes on you get a sense of his internal struggles with it
and also how fantasy race roles like 'this is the designated proud warrior guys race' affect individuals like him
Pyre takes a few different looks at this trope that I quite like
Deluge and Gilman for a start, but there's an angle to Pam and Tam too that's kinda similar
'Cause to some extent, the Harps are also supposed to be Proud Warrior Race Guys
Just as the bogdwellers are all "crazy" sorcerers, dwelling in dark arts
damn right she is
i wish id kept her around longer so i could have gotten to know her better
but.. i felt so awful she'd been in the downside so long
you can always play again
You and me both, Syd. Couldn't bear to let her stay more time
Had to make her go first
Who do you left behind, in the end?
the moontouched girl bertrude and gilman
i wanted to pick the people who would be most okay with staying
I left bertrude, wolfred, ti'zo and the reader
volfred deserves the world
I won the last rite but decided to concede freedom to the demon doctor
aw
He was deprived of his rightful reward long ago
Had to make that right
My only regret was Sandra
I wanted so bad to free her
Me too
I wonder if sonebody had the malice to sold the orb
*somebody
When I saw that it was an option I almost screamed. You CAN'T let her go! She's amazing
mine was jodariel
sad i didnt know that once i was at the end i had to let people go ..>
That's sad, but predictable. SGG always makes bittersweet endings
https://www.chrono.gg/ PYRE for 8 usd. Good deal
everytime i hear in the flame i get reminded of the time i made a vocaloid sing it
and she couldnt say illuminate
it was so cute
owominate the signs
YEP PRETTY MUCH
Ahahahah that's great
i really should finish that project
Which one?
i mean- im doing both the vagrant song and in the flame
i just. need to finish something
Heresy, Vagrant Song is awesome.
For those interested, Pyre is $8 on Chrono .gg!
Oh snap, cookie dough got there before me lol
just realized dread design is 15/8 (or 5/4 with triplets whatever floats your boat)
darren korn pulls another sneaky music trick on me
Dread design is my favorite because of the difference between regular and acoustic
Huh.
I have recently decided to try and make a version of Never to Return for a triumvirate from a text RP I'm participating in.
It is a hard job. Not because I lack skills, but because it is a long work.
Well, I wouldn't try and make the music, I'm not good enough with that. But I should at least come up with the base instrument (like the auto-harp for the Fate or a harpsichord for the Chastity) and a general idea of a melody before asking my friend to turn the acoustic Never to Return into something decent.
Also, lyrics are hard to come up with due to the weak understanding of what the Awakened represented (aside from the general idea). And I have no one to try and sing Ashley's part of the song...
The top comment for Dread Design is the best thing ever, by the way. "When you want to revive an eldritch horror being by slam dunking everyone you come across"
Dread Design is not in 15/8. It is either in 16/8 (which is probably not a notation used) or 4/4 (which makes more sense). Even if you listen to the sound of the tube (or whatever is the deep instrument), it has four 3-note sequences followed by a 4-note one. Which adds up to exactly 16 beats.
huh, listening to it again, you're right
it was hard for me to hear that last eighth note, so that may be why
Depends on the groupings
Anything over 8 implies the quavers are grouped into 3's where possible
So it's would either be 12/8 or 4/4 in that case
nah it's definitely 4/4 with a 33334 subgrouping
there are definitely 16 notes in each bar, which if we count each (33334) as one bar, would actually 16 sixteenth notes
It could also be alternating between 12/8 and 2/4 depending on where the accents lye
Since that's something that should be considered
That'd be a more technical time sig for it, but a syncopated 4/4 is infinitely easier to understand
Like why a subgrouping of 332 isn't considered 8/8, because 4/4 is easier to work with
Easier for most to understand sure
I just like technical details
So knowing exactly where the downbeat is helps me
asides, 332 and 33334 are definitely the most common groupings, besides the obvious 2222
oh i getcha
@upbeat sage
It could also be alternating between 12/8 and 2/4 depending on where the accents lye.
It can, yes. But it is too much hustle to write it as such if a more simple and more constant notation is also fitting.
Now to figure out the time signature of one piece of Scourge of the Furies... Darren's notation there is... Powerful.
It sure is!
Scourge of the Furies
Why have you repeated the name?
i meant to put a question mark there
i dont know the hades soundtrack yet
i assumed you were naming a pyre song
It's the latest addition to the Hades OST
Aye
Finally got around to finishing my first playthrough of Pyre
nice! how was it?
I loved it! Great game
What happened to Oralech?
he died but he’s ok
hes hanging out with volfred theyre chilling
My Oralech took a long fall
Her sisters are all here...
If you want to talk about Meg, though, you should head over to #h1-story-discussion
@young fjord
Since it's a first playthrough... Kind of expected.
I know. I was mentioning Alma and Kamila's new profile pictures.
Ah, I see. I have my desktop Discord set to compact, so I don't see the profile pictures unless I click on names
Hey guys I just finished Pyre and been hunting for Platinum trophy on PS4. The hardest one is Scribes' Champion which requires me to win with 12 titan stars in Campaign. After many failures, I did it but didn't get the trohpy
I'm playing on Hardened difficulty
Anyone else get the same bug? :/
rip
you can cheese that achievement though
if you just turn on all the titan stars in the rite where the other triumvirate doesn't show up
counts for the achievement apparently
Oh yeahhh
But how do you know which rite is that one? xD is it random?
@spark cloud
Pretty sure it's the one normal rite you have before the last liberation rite
Sometimes the other team just doesn't show up
Not sure we ever worked out what the factors are
Because sometimes the other team will show up, but most of the time they won't
I'm sure it was figured out
Like, maybe, I'm just saying that the circle of script-divers I hang out with never bothered to untangle what causes it
I think it's something to do with not having any unresolved conflicts with the opposing team or something to that extent iirc
yeah, probably
@upbeat sage Sorry could you explain what you mean?
And cheers for the answers everyone. I'm halfway through my True Nightwing campaign 😄
The teams all have interactions/conflicts with members of the nightwings
Udmildhe and Bertrude, for example, or Rukey and Barker
if you've cleared all those convos for the team that you happen to be facing at the last normal rite before the last lib rite, then the team will forfeit the match
Maybe
Maybe
That's what I was thinking Ven
hey this is going to sound weird but how do I modify the dialogue in pyre
There are a bunch of xml files in the game’s data. You can open them up with your text editor of choice and have at it!
oh i was going to answer this when i woke up and forgot gdfjgd ok gimme a sec
Pyre>Content>Game>Text>Events.en.xml contains the majority of the dialogue in the game
Keywords is mouseover text and help text is usually descriptions, passages from the Book, etc.
If you want to make changes to the order or way dialogue is presented, that's in Pyre>Content>Scripts>NarrationData.lua
all are editable with notepad
I wonder how hard it would be to write a pyre like?
There's the main story beats, and then some number of characters, each with an arc
The difference being that the arcs need to be able to happen in different orders
And there's probably some other stuff that pyre does to smooth the edges
The answer is Very Hard aha
You also have to consider some arcs are on the same tier of presedence- there’s about 8 different ways the story/dialogue can go even after your first liberation rite. The amount of dialogue to write gets pretty large pretty fast.
fun fact: there are a couple of events where, depending on who is still present in the group, one of three characters can take part
oralech’s appearance before he ambushed you in the wagon is one of them
(the three characters in question: tariq, volfred, hedwyn)
About to start my second playthrough, wish me luck!
Sidenote - it makes me sad that this is the only Supergiant game not on Switch. It is my favorite by far, more people need to appreciate it! But I know I'm preaching to the choir.
tbh multiplayer pyre is the reason why pyre belongs on the switch. hopefully it’ll make it there eventually. i think the switch will be around for a while.
super hecking late but thanks ven
Hey is there a general consensus on which wiki people prefer for Pyre? These are the 2 ones I've found, and they are both very lackluster. I have all the data needed to upload pics and descriptions for all masteries, items and equipment, so where would people want it? c:
https://pyre.fandom.com/wiki/Pyre_Wiki
https://pyre.gamepedia.com/Pyre_Wiki
gamepedia is used for Hades, so maybe there?
yeah I now realized I can see the amount of pages on each wiki, and gamepedia has like 10x the amount, so I'll definitely put it there when I have the time later :) Since it seems to be used way more
The scribes wrote mr brightside
i'm down for this theory
mr downside
ghcffhbh how did I miss that
you should not aspire to my levels of clowning
it started out with a book and I was doing just fine
i love this
mr downside...down me a side.....
🎵 Coming out of my cage
And I've been doing just fine
Exiled to the downside
Because I learned to read
god yes
It started with a rite
How did it end up like this?
*Mister Justice, please tell me why
You exiled us, sent to the downside
Was it the script, that pushed the cage over?
Was it the thought that Harpy wars were done oh*
Rhythm in the second line is off, but overall - decent.
Sounds correct in my head... I guess it's all in how you space the syllables, but overall - random critique unwarranted.
I've been thinking back to Pyre a lot recently. It's been so long since I played it, and honestly, it's a game that feels very personal to me. Mostly because it was designed to be, I guess. It's the type of game that makes you go 'I hope I made the right choice', and yet.... it's also the only game that I've felt NO desire to replay. Those two thoughts seem very conflicting, but Pyre... I don't know. I made those choices. That was my story. There's no redoing, in my eyes, because I feel like it might lessen the impact.
That's fair, and I understand completely
I thought I might replay Pyre for more paths after I finished my first playthrough just recently, but I think I might just live with my choices as well. The emotional investment was real
I also felt the same about RiME. I could've gone back to find stuff I missed, but the way the game plays out I just couldn't bring myself to break the narrative
Agreed!!
Did you play RiME as well?
Yeah! It's so pretty!! I work with UE4 a lot and I really appreciate their style. I took a really slow pace in that game and just staaared.
I feel like it's been so rare for me to actually encounter others who have played it. I can think of maybe one of two. But I always recommend it! I was wrecked when I finished it, though
Yeah, it's up there on my List for sure. There's a game that caught my eye recently called Sea Of Solitude. It reminded me a lot of Rime and it's definitely on my radar for visual aesthetic alone. Rime surprised me by delivering more than just beautiful vistas. I hope SoS does as well.
Irregardless/Regardless, Pyre has a special place in my heart few games manage to reach.
Indeed
Doing my essay on Julius Caesar for English and there is a LOT of stuff that makes me think of Pyre, makes me wonder if it was an inspiration for it
a lot of the stuff about Mark Antony seems very... rites-y
'Here comes his body, mourned by Mark Antony, who, though he had no hand in his death, shall receive the benefit of his dying, a place in the commonwealth,'
I imagine that Shakespeare had a decent influence on a lot of the stuff in the book of rites, but some of the terms like commonwealth, rites, etc seem similarly rooted in Shakespeare's work
shakespeare wants what pyre has
Dark Supergiant give us the forbidden Pyre reference material
Thought you where talking about the singer for a second
Just got my Ti'zo plush ❤
It issss ❤
You're not wrong!
Tizo was the mvp of all my games
Anyone else have days where you listen to In the Flame, get to the bridge, realize you haven't appreciated the song fully and start it over, times 3
This has happened to me whilst listening to all the Nevers to Return on loop
(Which y'all should do [Black Mandolin's on Spotify {And Bandcamp}])
(And if you've purchased the Pyre album in any form you can email us with proof of purchase and we'll send you codes to own them.) 💃
The mvp of all of my games was Royce Bracket, although Ti'zo is definitely up there
royce is my favorite nightwing
what was it from that prepyre sketch caption? the camerata's pyre shines bright?
Royce is too OP to just be confined to one game, you see
I can't find the camerata sketch but here's team red: http://fav.me/dbhy8f9
the first thing I thought when I clicked that link was WHAT DID SHE DO TO RUKEY
sybil would be a kickass harp in the pyreverse
Sybil's umbrella as a talisman
clucker is imp
man I gotta like... I have the first chapter of a Transistor/pyre cross and that's about it XD
and yes Sybil is a harp
bc fluffy blonde harp 😊
supergiant: into the pyreverse
on all levels except physical i am tenderly holding an imp in my arms and his name is ti'zo the wise!!!!!!!!
thinkin about how celeste says "cap tain jo DARIEL"
its the love and admiration...
i love the way they sing everyones names and how much feeling must b packed in hhh
TI'ZO THE WIIIIIIISE
ALSO the way they each have their own little instrument theme is 👌
Bertrudes tubas knocked me out and stole my wallet
when they sing abt pam and u gotta do that little shoulder shake for a moment.....
Tariq is singing about bertrude while Celeste blows a tuba behind him
HGFVVF the SHAKE
They just have all these instruments in a pile in front of them
game theory: tariq just has like
mary poppins pockets with all his instruments in them
pulls out a whole church organ
tariq has many talents
tariq has infinite hands
oh to get a tariq hug...
Y/n X tariq:
Chapter one:
Tariq gives you a big hug with his strong soft arms
Today I showed Pyre to my coworker and it made me so happy they all seemed to like it :) I deeply love this gape cause its more about your losses and mistakes than about your choices and victories. >w<
hey yknow at the very end where tariq offers u a handshake....i take it and pull him into a hug
Give him the “I acknowledge u bro” backslap as u do
the 'i dont ever want to let go of you' back of shirt grab
the 'oh god celeste is gonna be mad if your cape is wrinkled' smoothdown
Celeste “WHO TOUCHED THE BOY” Pyre
wow has anyone else seen a streamer switch difficulty to heightened at the Milithe Rite thinking they were hot stuff, then raging a quiting? lol
doesn't make for a very good stream xD

Heightened is clearly not the difficulty for learning the mechanics lol
heightened, all titans, imps only, final rite
As soon as he started complaining about the delay between switch characters I knew we were headed to saltsville
uh oh sounds like someone needed to git gud at their attitude
yeah I was really excited to see him enjoy Pyre, but he literally rage quit at the first Milthe Rite, oh well
Unfortunate
i assume he restarted lost rites?
that's....so much, dude, just turn it down and have fun
or literally just. continue
OR JUST CONTINUE ur right of course jan
one of the few games that lets you continue a loss in a narratively interesting way
it barely even penalizes you that much
yeah that's what I told him! lol, then someone in chat started talking about how fair and balanced the AI in Pyre is and that set him off lol
Heightened is a lot of fun, after you've beaten the game lol
this is the definition of ruining your own fun
Yeah =/ and he's pretty adamant that the game is SG's worst, overhyped, etc.
he really sabotaged it himself though
he straight up turned off the stream lol, dunno when he'll be back
I thought usually people thought the game was too easy at first
so that was very unusual for me
At first it does seem pretty easy
withdrawn can be a difficulty spike though
cause of the two imps
at first you're probably just used to being able to outrange everyone with bigger auras
and then suddenly two boom happy imps
yeah this was before that when you get like -3 hope for everyone before the fight, so there was lots of 3 banishments and controller dropping while they scored lol
local man digs hole, lowers himself into it, complains that it's dark down there and he can't climb out
it's right after you get Tizo, so maybe him?
yeah i wanted to say tizo but then i was like hmm isn't it bertrude but then wait you don't have bertrude at that point yet or do you
yeah it's your first fight against her, like 2 hours into the game
generally i like that the game has all these balances and pushes to make you play different character but the only one that was ever kinda grating was banishment sickness
I agree on the sickness
like that made my "ah this game is telling me what to do how dare" petulance go off
i think if it only activated when you overuse a character, and made it textually clear that it's a consequence of repeated strain, then it wouldn't feel so random
yeah
might make you feel sad about treating your friends poorly though
Yeah, I thought maybe that was the case when Jodi got it, but then a bunch got it later that I didn't even use much and it made no sense
in general the use of rng in pyre was a little unfocused imo
and had a tendency to get in the way of the narrative
yeah sometimes your whole trium gets banishment sick after a rite and it's like what i just used you
Yeah I get that through playthroughs it adds something different, but yeah if it was just more clear cut communicated to you it could still add that little layer of strategy
I only ever had banishment sickness happen once per playthrough, but honestly I might be misremembering
It happened at least twice on my only playthrough
Once was just Jodi, and then there was another where it was like 3 of the characters
I want to partake in the salty bounty. Who was that streamer?
Also... This guy didn't just insult Pyre for being overhyped. It has the lowest fanbase from all SG games as far as I can see.
yeah its never really mentioned when people say supergiant, even the Hades trailer overlooks it
It's a bit funny, being that it's generally well received. Despite that, it only has maybe a quarter of the player base as the previous games from what I can find
i think it suffers in part from the disconnect between the types of people who usually enjoy sports games vs the types of people who usually enjoy visual novels
they end up working together, generally speaking, but if you don't like one or the other it'd be easy to think it wasn't the game for you without giving it a try
That's fair
I think it's a case of a great game with a smaller target audience than the others
i do think it has a sort of....awkward feeling to it, and this is obviously just my personal ~thing~
it was a lot of different firsts for sgg, first time having a cast that big and that developed, especially
without the experience from pyre, hades might be a lot less solid than it is, so i can appreciate pyre as a learning experience
I appreciate that it was a learning experience for them (everything is, to an extent), it's still one of my favourite games though
and you are extremely valid
I'm just a sucker for games with an emotional punch
RNG is such a tricky thing to work with, especially in narrative-driven games
cries in no official sahrian guide
if hades hadn't come out i'd still be working on the codex, maybe, but as it is..............
i know this is off topic i will move channels if this becomes a whole off topic discussion but there was some recently out game about being an archeologist and figuring out an ancient language
though i don't know if it's.... "linguistically interesting" or just a matching puzzle
(cries in d'ni numerals)
honestly it's an achievement that voice lines were selected in such a way that the player usually does come out the other end with a few words of sahrian
still i think it's a futile project to decipher it without translations to match up
yeah, grammar's basically out of the question
we can get a bunch of vocabulary but the grammar is totally impenetrable
words are doable to an extent
grammar would be doable if there were any full sentences at all in the game but there aren't, they're all fragments
there are "quips" in the voice files that weren't used but then we have the opposite problem of not knowing what those mean
goddd my conlang itch is in full swing can you just believe there's this entire language in pyre but no information on it
greg's gummi berry juice secrets
i mean i kinda get the sense that it's not that developed on the other end either
especially once they knew they were only going to use fragments
yeah probably
I seem to recall that Greg did a write up on the language at one point and talked about the process of developing it, didn't he?
I don't recall if it was an AMA or what, I just have a memory of reading about it
He said what inspired it
😔 with tears
But he's never like released a full Thing
It's mostly latin-based, with russian and japanese influences
btw these are the transcriptions i have of the "full sentences" of sahrian in the voice files
Shimi ravaganz na maina! Shiru samu sumai!
Insaru bagama, zumag da berumen. Sna doshien!
Lorigas-ta, mazu losidem ori zladigo sharagaba.
Ishmagu mazu, koliabadem shana, morkaba.
Misu kalium, loriosa obomate shinose.
Shna buralem, tere verelios mazu tiros alir.
Komi rangushem ti lifalios, dozirusalios histos.
Piri kalium tosh lu koshti, oboreum et mi tabastos.
Mugrabu gosli, kosha brazilos, shoi sha teliosha bashe.
Zarash liketh, kogra ma lethios, piru zekaleth shmal!
Hobario shwalem, shirastos maza tharium damalantha.
Barathasulem shinulios, shana te se toriolium.
Kere ameos lobitasulem, shoi so shimarantus.
Molkedramelum hoshlametan, kabatharios shinulos ta.```
it has a distinctly different sound than what we get in the game
yeah it is. i didn't have it like that at first but ended up isolating it
obviously the word divisions are arbitrary
like, maybe totally unattested in any language unusual but don't quote me on that i vaguely recall my professor saying fricative-nasal clusters are unattested
hmhm
So what you really want is Greg to secretly send you a link to his spreadsheet with the English-Sahrian translations
something something optimality theory something something lingustic universals mutter mutter
yeah why not, make a puzzle out of it
yeah idk i'd split that as lavaganz namini
To me it sounds like the z is the end of one word and the n is the start of the next
Yeah, what jan said
🤷 i had a reason for splitting it the way i did but i don't remember what it was
(waits 20 years for the codex to open)
okay i lied, georgian allows [prt͡skvna]
there are too many words in here and google doesn't like it
buuuuut it's using the [n] as the coda so it's like a vowel-y n??
yeah you're probably right idk why i did it like that
"na maina" or "namaina" is a phrase used in several other places
i think what i remembered was my prof saying there are no "reverse affricates"
i mean there's clusters like [st] obviously, but no language where they're treated as a single segment
another issue with transcribing sahrian is that uhhh nobody is a native speaker of sahrian and pronunciations are not consistent
like take these two, which are the same line
also half the speakers are ethereal otherworldly creatures speaking through 5 different vocal filters
that "samu" is a "samuh" in one reading and a "samoo" in the other
the stress is all different too
That might be what Greg was referring to as different dialects? Would that explain the pronunciation difference? Or you think it's just straight up voice acting discrepancies?
like, it's a conlang, so you can just say that it's different dialects.
voice acting discrepancies
there are actual like differences in words and phrasing across characters for sure but pronunciation differences are broadly down to how the actor speaks
So It Is Declared
they have quirks, which is something you only realize when you've been listening to volfred lines for like. an hour gkfjdgfd
we actually know the word for drive imp,
that's one of the few greg has Told Us
scal-irum
Scal-Irum - Drive-imp, according to word of god, although it’s never been documented in the game.
it's like a puzzle but all the puzzle pieces have been painted black and maybe half the pieces are missing
Ah yes, the great S ◼ r ◼ language
that's what forced illiteracy will do to a language
Libra, Libraje, Librajem(ta), Libreta, Libralias, Libraritum - Freedom this makes me angry gdkfjgdf
i wonder if it's based more in a germanic or latin language
there are too many similar words associated with freedom,
i think it's one of the two
latin
yeah that makes sense
at least like the vast majority of the etymologies are latin
grammar isn't worth speculating about
Language is just Latin but Rebranded^TM
there are germanic roots here and there
like the Beyonders, Genondias
From an Old English/Germanic word, “geondan”, root of words like “yonder”.
those are almost definitely case markers
yeah i made a little ~chart~
but we don't have enough examples of other words to fill it out
and that's not even touching on like..............declensions
turns out "freedom" is a word that comes up frequently, in pyre, the game about, escaping from imprisonment and starting a revolution,
we've discovered 90% of the sahrian language is the word freedom in different intonations who would've guessed
honestly? yeah
maybe sahrian is exactly how it appears in the game
words come from bards, each of them singing their own variation as it fits the tune
communication actually happens through body language or something
the words just serve the tone and indicate the current speaker
your words appear in text in a floating scroll in front of you
actually everyone IS literate
in reality the scrolls dont have text on them, they have pure meaning inscribed
how dare you mention different pronunciations of sahrian without mentioning jodi’s lisp

i know what its like to be trapped, sandra
