hello! fairly new to the channel here! i first played a bit of transistor back in 2019, but didn’t get much past the sybil fight, for no other reason beside i just didn’t have much time for gaming at the time. after i got into hades, i always wanted to go back and finish transistor, and finally this year i was able to play the game in full. i’ve now played it through 3 times in 3 months and it has become my all time favorite game. i’m so happy to see there is still a dedicated community around this amazing masterpiece!! cell heyred

#

also, couldn’t figure out how to send it in this channel (probably a permissions thing) but i shared a photo of a project i worked on recently in #fan-works of a transistor patch that i made for my winter coat, if anyone is interested! prism

portishead is a great pick ^^^ check mezzanine by massive attack, music has the right to children by boc, homogenic by bjork, and the selftitled by black chamber for soemthing more similar to the triphop songs. anything by duster, come in by weatherday, and tsumanne by shinsei kamattechan have very similar guitars imo. i think pt.23456789andstill by asian glow has the most similar in terms of drums and guitars but that might be a hot take....

# flint vigil Aw! What do you guys typically play?

We have some Kingdom Hearts, Fire Emblem, and Final Fantasy stuff lined up for our next performance. It's all great music, I just haven't played those games so I don't really have much attachment to them

flint vigil
#

Understandable!

#

Playing good music is different when you have a connection to it - makes it more fun to learn something you know in a different context.

misty creek
#

True music appreciators don't need to play the game to like the soundtrack

pulsar bone
#

Sure, but I'm mostly lamenting that I probably won't be able to convince the director to have the orchestra play any Transistor/Supergiant stuff (I'm certainly trying though and will post a recording if I end up doing it). I like the songs we are playing even though I haven't played a single one of them, but I would much rather perform something that is more meaningful to me.

And in the case of tracks with lyrics, it can actually spoil the story

misty creek
lilac sandal
# misty creek Personally I think a story that can be ruined by spoilers wasn't that good to be...

I think that's a poor generalization. There are some cases I definitely agree, but I don't think it can apply to everything.

Some cases spoilers don't change your experience with the game, but imagine playing a game like Outer Wilds with a walkthrough to skip over all the discoveries you are supposed to make yourself, and what experience you're now getting instead.

Puzzles are fun, and sometimes stories are meant puzzles. Not all of Transistor is, but there are definitely parts I wouldn't spoil for people.

keen karma
#

I have a boring middle ground opinion. I like not being spoiled as well but in the end, good narratives will still have their impact. There was a DnD GM (I think) that had an idea for a campaign where everything is predetermined and it's almost like a play, which I find interesting.
I think Outer Wilds is a special case (I mean the game's main meme is that discourse about it looks like SCP reports) because of two things: Firstly, it's more of a detective narrative which is more susceptible to spoilers, because the mystery is the story (and you could just finish the game in about 20 minutes). Secondly, the adventure gameplay is also uniquely spoiler-sensitive; I call it 'information-based' because unlike most other adventures it doesn't depend on concrete things like items or codes, but vague knowledge of where to go, to stand in a specific spot at a specific time etc. I'm just rambling now I actually just wanted to say that Outer Wilds is not the best counterexample because it's so unique in that aspect lol
In contrast, Transistor would work even if you knew all the story, the inevitability makes it even worse maybe. Might be even better with the vagueness of the lyrics

#

misty creek
agile root
#

Didn't seem very rude to me! Was quite neutral in tone

misty creek
#

calling a personal preference poor is very much a dismissive attitude

agile root
#

They did not call it poor though. They said it's a poor generalization, and the rest of it follows up very politely

#

Had they said "That's stupid" and left it at that, I might agree with you

misty creek
#

yes which is a dismissive way to start a conversation

#

the more people prop up Outer Wilds as some phenomenal experience the more I just want to read the plot on wikipedia lmao

agile root
#

I mean considering you yourself might've blasted a huge swathe of stories, I think the rebuttal was pretty fair

misty creek
#

that attitude kind of made Ghost Trick worse for me because I expected something truly groundbreaking and then turns out the main plot twists were basically a supernatural take on some classic detective twists

misty creek
#

Got it. You only find opinions rude if you don't agree with them.

agile root
#

You're going well out of your way to assume the worst in tone, etc. I'm exiting this conversation

misty creek
#

I'm not reading that so save your energy.

#

Just gonna say it's hella rich that you come in with insinuating that I'm overreacting, and end off with doing to same towards something I said prior.

agile root
#

That's a really uncharitable reading, eh. And then you went and blocked me. Why, after having blocked me, are you still sniping at me?
Look, you put your opinion out there. Did you expect people not to discuss the idea you put forth?

#

One more personal attack and I'll let the mods handle things

lilac sandal
olive sluice
# misty creek Personally I think a story that can be ruined by spoilers wasn't that good to be...

In general I disagree tbh. Most things that require emotional attachement (that imo you don't get from spoilers) are ruined by spoilers. In general spoilers will also cut out the form in which a story is expressed as well as details, which is detrimental.

But especially in the context of games, stories often time are strong because of interactivity. Spoilers remove that interactivity and a large part of why the story might be impactful

stone shoal
#

There can very much be exceptions to this. But they are that exceptions
I had a very big plot point on an anime spoiled to me (willingly) and it served to intensify the emotions I felt leading up to that specific plot point

reef pawn
agile root
cunning plaza
#

I would like to point out that it's ok to agree or disagree and discuss different opinions and points of view. There's no need to be rude nor dismissive about other people's opinions, especially when they point out that it's a personal opinion, preference, etc. Being argumentative is a key part in any debate or discussion (not in the angry sense but in the sense of presenting a logical argument or line of reasoning), but being rude is not.

As an example, I can say "I like peaches" and someone else can say "I prefer apples instead." That's ok, we have different tastes.
But it's not ok to say "That's a poor palate. I prefer apples instead." You may come off as rude, intentionally or not, especially when it was pointed out that it was a personal preference.

lilac sandal
#

I'll admit took a bit of offense to the original statement, and that may have led to a somewhat snappy response.

I didn't look at it as an "I like peaches" phrase, and more so "I think a meal that can be ruined by peaches wasn't that good of a meal". It can feel disheartening to read that sort of thing, especially if someone doesn't like peaches, because that suddenly means someone thinks all your meals are bad. It can feel invalidating.

If it was more of a "I don't mind peaches with every meal" it is stated as more preference, rather than a broader generalization of food that can feel targeted to someone else.

Does that make sense? Just wanted to state how I felt about it and clear that up for myself.

agile root
#

The example dialogue in the peach and apple example above doesn't resemble the actual dialogue that took place. The example has an innocuous statement followed by someone absolutely randomly butting in with their preferences and an insult. The actual dialogue has a broad and arguably pretty dismissive generalization followed by someone calling it out as a bad generalization.

Was the comment being replied to meant to represent personal opinion? Almost certainly yes. But the wording doesn't do a great job of conveying that, and it reads more like an very far-reaching evaluation—why take issue with the reply but overlook the comment being replied to? Lets not ignore context! And I do not believe stating "personal opinion" is a great defense for generalizations: it's a fairly common faux pas at best, and we have many examples of it going poorly IRL (which I super do not want to bring up here)

It honestly feels like an unintentional strawman

agile root
#

I personally had a pretty big character death spoiled for me in FFXIV, and boy did the impact and fallout fall flat for me

keen karma
#

Hmm interesting, in that case how does replaying a narrative game then work out for you?

agile root
#

I suppose it lets me recall all the highs and lows I hopefully experienced the first time but also lets me appreciate the setups and foreshadowing, etc

#

In the FFXIV case, I'd also just come back from the hospital and had a player in the dungeon before the big story event call me an idiot. Really put a damper on the mood

keen karma
#

#

#

I think you're right about certain stories being extra resilient to spoilers because the journey itself is pretty darn impactful

My first time at the ending Mr. Nobody almost convinced me we were going to restore the whole city, which I was really excited to see since I LOVE the game's art and architecture. But then once Red couldn't revive/restore him and made her choice, I wasn't surprised, in a strange way. That same sad realization I got from heading toward Fairview came back, like "oh, this is not heading toward a happy ending." And then his last few lines are heartbreaking 😭

The meaning I've found behind it is this:

"When everything changes, nothing changes" misses one key thing. You can live in a city of constant flux, realizing you can never grow attached to your favourite park, restaurant, or bridge, or any location that meant something to you at any stage of your life. But what doesn't change is the people, and in the end, that's what Red cared about more than anything about Cloudbank.

A lot of the events prior to the game are told through only a few sentences in logs only obtainable through specific combinations of abilities, so I think it’s fair to say that most of the lore can be expanded upon. warning, spoiler and drama ahead
||has anyone mentioned or is there a discussion somewhere about the similarities between transistor and zenless zone zero? in the more recent zzz updates it felt at first that there were many respectful nods to transistor, but after catching up on the main story in zzz it feels more like i just consumed an ai creation that was edited so that it wouldnt be obvious that it took so much from transistor. i wouldnt imagine anything like this, except that in hoyo games (in the actual games) theres a blatant and bizarre discourse on display about the use of ai in games, mostly pertaining to voice actor rights. i hate to say it, but it doesnt seem particularly unlikely, and its definitely not impossible, that... hoyo chose the setting of transistor, where the process are recreating the environment and people, for their own real story of creating a game with ai. thats an extreme projection; the content that hoyo produces is very dense, making it difficult to know one way or another. at the least, zzz is very inspired by transistor. am i seeing complex controversy where there is none? maybe there is an honest relationship and collaboration between hoyo and supergiant that i havent heard of?? if there is really something here i think the the subject should be approached and investigated delicately, and other supergiant enjoyers should consider maintaining appropriate discretion to allow supergiant to choose how to react, if at all. and yes, if it wasnt obvious, i can talk alot. i would love to answer questions, and also hear what anyone else notices or thinks. if this is too extreme, please remove my comment. that would also answer my wondering, in a way. <3||

#

||this is from the newest update in zzz, in an arc that is basically a retelling about sibyl and red, but in zzz the "process" is "corruption," and less explained, and the dangers of the process are more managable, so themes are more clearly about music coorporations and artists. before seeing this, and before catching up on the story, there was a time when i thought that the zzz asthetics and themes were coincidentally similar to transistor; this newer arc completely convinced me that there were no coincidences.||

barren talon
#

||besides all of the smaller elements that contribute to my idea; the newest main story arc in zzz has a sequence very similar to evading and then fighting the spine that ends in an out of place credit screen where there are no human names in the credits, and some philosophical statements about story telling. it seems like a forcibly inserted message about their game developement choices. when zzz was more fresh the game elements that were similar to transistor were... the lofi asthetics, the enemy and world design... and actually, there are puzzle and exploration examples in gameplay, and i would have tried to record them for comparison, or i would go investigate further myself, if i had a faster computer. heh. the similarities in recent updates have gone beyond reasonable, the music, setting, and story particularly. and its not all good, it seems like the music and setting of transistor were lightly altered and the stories from transistor were regurgitated in a still recognizable form before being used in zzzs game. i enjoy zzz and i hope that its not the case that transistor is being copied using ai. i like the idea that there are hoyo artists and writers who are fans of transistor. but because of other controversy i have to consider the possibility that something less innocent is taking place. also, as i said, zzz is extremely dense. someone with a better computer and passion like mine could willingly immerse themselves in hours and hours of gameplay to put together a case. maybe ill look at zzz gameplay streams to find more i can show. please tell me that there is sharing between hoyo and supergiant?||

#

||im not sure how spoiler worthy any of this is, or if this is an appropriate place for these messages at all :p||

cedar grove
#

i dont think i will ever play this game so i guess i will never know about the story or music but i dont see too much visual correlation

barren talon
#

||not "too much visual correlation" is enough for me. in this example the visuals are context for a story about competing artists changing industry, in a world threatened by "corruption" that changes reality. the main char in this arc has a corruption engine in the form of a microphone, other chars have magic swords and other engines that effect reality in magical ways. all of that is familiar, but alone, not enough. the visuals that are nearly and sometimes undeniably identical to transistors scenes and motifs, and the complementary music, the story, AND gameplay and the cohesion of all the elements... undoubtedly, if sgg doesnt have big fans in hoyo, there is dishonest marketing and developement on hoyos part, taking advantage of sggs work. it wouldnt be terrible if some kids or a small studio created a transistor parody, but this is a massive studio currently engaged in controversy involving ai. and then theres a further question, even if there is no ai involvement, but there is, would it still be dishonest for fans of sgg in hoyo to do this? another possibility is that hoyo is recieving elements of transistor from ai without even realizing where its coming from. i hope that others who are familiar with transistor and zzz will notice and say something, because ive barely documented my zzz playthrough at all. i was only compelled to take this one screenshot when the relationship between zzz and transistor became undeniable to me.||

Thinking of getting Transistor but have a few concerns/questions:

  1. Is playing audio through headphones/bluetooth still an issue with Steam Deck that requires a workaround to fix it?

  2. I read that you lose abilities when dying in combat. Is it really as simple as hitting the menu button and there’s a retry option to restart an encounter to avoid this? If so, I’m assuming you must select this option before you die?

  3. Does combat really involve running around and hiding while you wait for your cooldown bar to recharge? That doesn’t seem very fun and also I read your movement speed is slower than the enemies so that can add to the frustration.

I know you can play it for less than 2 hours on Steam and get a refund if you don’t like it, but I’m hoping to get these questions answered to save me some time. Thanks in advance!

keen karma
#

I don't know your preferred way of playing games but regarding 2 & 3, I'm wary about trying to describe gameplay and then trying to judge it based on those descriptions. But for me, losing functions or running around were never a problem or source of frustration; and I really don't like any turn-based games and generally 'losing' even if it makes perfect sense for the story (sorry, Pyre 😎)

manic lava
#

you do lose functions from dying, but honestly it works really well in game because it forces you to experiment with other things. it can be hard but it's a lot of fun. there's no option to restart an encounter, other than restarting the game to your last save point. there is an aspect of running away while you wait for turn() to recharge, but it recharges fairly quickly and you also have the option of attacking outside if it to a limited degree (tbh i don't remember how tho it's been a very long time since i've played transistor). iirc your movement speed is not slower but again very long time since i last played.

keen karma
#

there's also the jaunt() function which lets you dash while running around and shoot attacks while running around (well, more easily)

Jaunt() is very clearly the granddad of Zagreus' dash

In general, there's some Functions that can be used outside of the planning "time freeze". One is jaunt (for mobility, but can be turned into an offensive move), but there are other more direct attacks. I think Ping works. Been a while.

small briar

Ping works well, and you can upgrade it so it explodes and stuns/slows enemies to give you some breathing room. Spark is fast too! Generally, you can do a lot in real time and use your turn as a panic button. Then you can get some combos in and regain control

#

The combat takes some getting used to, but it can be pretty fast-paced and active if you want it to be. I think the flexibility is a lot of fun!

a physics based... turn based... multiplayer... fighting game?

#

WOW that was fast

#

couldn't even ping mods in time PES_Lul

#

anyways - toribash
basically - instead of doing a quarter back high kick or whatever, each player gets to pose a ragdoll of a fighter
it goes like this - the match starts and it goes into this sort of a turn() mode for a minute where you get to pose your ragdoll
and that pose you make gets interpolated for - let's say - a second
so your guy starts in a t-pose and you have to pose him (like a ragdoll) to throw a punch - adjusting joints and limbs and what not
and you've got 60 seconds for that

#

then once that timer runs out - this turn() mode ends and the game plays in real time whatever moves you and your opponent made there
and then stops and goes back to turn() again

#

it's a neat concept and it's close to what i'd imagine a multiplayer transistor would look like, but the fact that both your and your enemy's turns happen at the same time turn it into a bit of a mess
it all comes back to what amir (i think) said in that noclip doc - when's the opponent's turn?

#

the only solution i see to this is having a 30 seconds turn followed by another 30 for your opponent before turning on real time and playing whatever tf you planned out there
but i dunno - waiting 30 seconds only to play 5 probably wouldn't feel great

It's unlikely that this is generative ai singing, it's likely that queenpb (music producer) is singing the cover and doing audio editing afterwards to make it sound like Neuro-sama's voice (given that this is how Neuro's original song "Life" was done it's likely all karaoke is done in a similar manner). I'm mainly basing this off of the fact that it takes significant time and implied effort to do karaoke streams (which are managed by someone with music/art background) and that previous songs have been explicitly sung by humans and have had voice editing afterwards.
I mainly just enjoy everything Neurosama related though

As mentioned before, "Camerata" is how Italian fascists addressed each other. It means "barracks mate" in the military sense and they adopted it because fascists worship the military and because it was different from "compagno" (the way communists would and still do address each other).

Considering how much the Camerata crave "static stability" and how they dream of basically "imposing" a stable aesthetic (and not only) canon on the world that is not fluid and people-opinion-driven like the current Cloudbank, but imposed by an elite that wields the Transistor, and the choice of the word, and the explicit callbacks to 20s fashion and art.

Possibly intentional detail I haven't seen pointed out yet: Red is ||27 years old, possibly a reference to the "27 club" (many beloved artists, such as Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, and Jimmy Hendrix all died at 27 years old), foreshadowing her fate at the end of the game||

never actually made that connection myself

#

||i see Red's suicide as more allegorical than anything else— less ending her life and more turning her back on everything cloudbank represents, both good and bad (including her art, which, for an artist, seems tantamount to suicide)||
But also ||Signals exists||

#

so maybe kinda both?? idk

manic field
round hinge
#

I think that's kinda part of it, but I mainly see Red's ||suicidal ideation as a desire to no longer exist in cloudbank. She's kind of a black box as far as her thoughts and experiences, but I see her as being super dissilussioned with life on Cloudbank prior to the events of the game (see her discography). After everyone died, she had ultimate power over the city but had no reason to exercise it. So she moved to the country, so to speak.||

#

||I see the whole game through the lens of Cloudbank city being an allegory for the intersection of democracy and the internet. The Process (fascism) is just a natural result of this phenomenon when a few individuals hijack the system. Red is an artist who is disturbed and disgusted by the ennui of living under the system, and who becomes even more disempowered by the Process as it grows stronger||

#

||In the end, she gives up on trying to use her celebrity (represented by the Transistor) to change the world as she sees it ("i see the spine of the world, sparkle and shine, light the inside...") and decides to simply live her life with the ones she loves (as represented by Paper Boats, the only song in the game which can be seen as a straightforward expression of love through art without subtext.)||

#

I rewatched the ending of the Transistor.
Easily the best ending of all the games!
I cry every time. Peak endign.
LOVE IT

delicate flame
#

The game itself is less about politics and more about influence in general
Especially posthumous

#

It's not even "Why we create", but
"Why do we even live in the first place?"

#

More precisely, "Why do we choose to live?"

#

This might be a stretch, but you could go as far as to say that Unknown is a projection of Red

#

There's just a lot of philisophical themes the game is imbued with

raw tangle
#

Absolutely everything is political, and a few people deciding to take democratic power away from the masses to force their narrow vision upon a greater populous is incredibly political.

round hinge
# delicate flame Process is not political

it's a little far down the transistor analysis iceberg but I posted an explanation earlier in the thread as to why I have this interpretation, and some other lovely folks actually followed it up with even MORE evidence that I didn't even know about
I'd love to hear your theories and interpretations as well, as to limit the game to only one meaning seems kinda sad

#

But regarding the Process = fascism interpretation:

  • Red/black/white color scheme of the Process is recollective of Nazi imagery
  • The artwork of Transistor was inspired by Gustav Klimt, an Austrian painter whose work was stolen from Jewish owners by the Nazi regime. Seeing the city, inspired by Klimt's work, overtaken by the rigid, mathematical Process reflects this
  • "Camerata" refers to a certain group of artists who believe art had strayed, a view held by many fascists
  • Furthermore, "Camerata" was actually a term used by Italian fascists to refer to one another
  • The Camerata's ideology shares many traits with Fascism, most notably the belief that people cannot be trusted to govern themselves effectively
#

I would love to hear your other interpretations on the game's meaning also, as I don't think a work of art needs to be boiled down to a single interpretation, but there's enough evidence supporting this interpretation that I don't think it should be brushed aside because you like another one better. These things are not mutually exclusive.

delicate flame
#

Camerata as a metaphor for Fascism does sound more plausible than Process itself

#

Interesting

#

In my interpretation Process is essentially Fate
and Camerata is a group of people who realized they could manipulate it, but failed to realize that Full Control can't be in their hands, hence the events the game begins with

#

that one line which went somewhat like "Or was I found by it?" (Royce's bio iirc) basically gives it away for me

#

but there's other supporting evidence

#

I want to compile it all at some point
Probably will once I finish my setup to play it in my home Cinema to analyze it extensively and not generally

round hinge
#

Would love to hear more!

rustic ermine
#

i did see the process as like

#

settler colonialism

#

also i finished the game like a few days ago and im still thinking abt it

delicate flame
#

The first time I finished it I just cried at the ending
And mentally at my utter lack of understanding of what the heck this game was actually about
Despite being so gorgeous aesthetically and seemingly narratively

#

That was 4 years ago now....

#

I mean
It took me ~7 years to fully understand what Undertale is about
Only natural

rustic ermine
delicate flame
#

I just had Old Friends recommended by Spotify's algorithm and got curious to check more songs from the album and got hooked enough to try out the source

#

In stark contrast games I specifically meant to try out myself (e.g. OneShot) I mostly ended up being disappointed in

#

Expectations and Fate (Process) are more connected than one might think

#

Tying this back to the game, recall Royce's attempts to reach acclaim by going avant-garde after noticing the patterns of the Process (prior to discovering its true form) yet only making matters far worse for him by doing so

round hinge
#

for me it reflects the nature of life on Cloudbank: When something becomes broken into ones and zeroes, it loses something critical

delicate flame
#

I believe Transistor is less policial per se and more morally-ethical (questioning) oriented

round hinge
#

Oh yeah I see it as all of the above

#

like, how many people in the music industry stop seeing music as something they're passionate about and as a commodity that can be created following certain rules to become successful

delicate flame
#

Unknown starts by slandering Camerata and is adamant on their views until the bittersweet end
Yet Camerata is... not evil

#

Never has been

round hinge
#

yeah

delicate flame
#

Neither is Fascism which could have at the very least served as an inspiritation

#

It's just wrong

round hinge
#

i mean, i think fascism is kinda evil, but in order to carry this thread further you have to start breaking down definitions of morality

#

the road to hell is paved with good intentions and comfortable decisions

delicate flame
#

The entire idea of evil is flawed
Malice, yes, that does exist
But nothing is at root, inherently willing to cause harm
Even if that brings pleasure
Which in itself is a good reason
Where good is used ontologically, not morally

round hinge
#

i would say fascism is evil and people who are fascists are evil to the extent that they are fascists but the idea that a person can be measured as wholly good or evil is wrong. it's like using a boolean to measure a float

delicate flame
round hinge
#

personally: evil = ideals that create human suffering, good = ideals that remove it

#

it doesn't have to be complicated, in fact i think it's better if it isn't

delicate flame
round hinge
#

at least in this context

#

that works too

delicate flame
#

with good and bad being kept for ontological purposes only

#

evil just doesn't sit anywhere

round hinge
#

could you define ontological?

delicate flame
#

Hell as a concept was created in order to suppress wrongdoing even in a seemingly finite world
Yet it's only natural to feel remorse for such actions, and for a reason
Sometimes there is no repentance, sure, but even then the reasoning behind the deeds can never be "bad"

In Crime in Punishment, Raskolnikov struggles with this and settles on the right conclusion, but is still haunted by the idea that it was morally a corrupt action he has taken, despite Dostoevsky showing in full detail through his monologues how there's nothing bad that would come out even of a murder

#

Was it the correct decision to make? That's up to debate
But in reality it's of less significance, specifically when it has already been made

#

History shapes the Future, not dwells on the Past

delicate flame
# round hinge could you define ontological?

Concerning being, broadly speaking

An idea is bad if it's not beneficial (lit. making good)
So, yes, it is true that going on an expensive vacation while having a student loan debt to pay is a bad idea (most likely, context is crucial)

#

Even so we're merely playing a guessing game a lot of the times
What may seem like a bad idea might route you to the desired path, while the one you stuck with as good might lead you astray

delicate flame
#

regarding that I just have one thing to say

#

One must not imagine Sisyphus happy, one must imagine being the boulder rolled

round hinge
delicate flame
#

Like Scatman John said, "I want to be a human being, not a human doing"

round hinge
#

you're not gonna quote albert camus and then scatman john within the same 60 seconds💀

delicate flame
round hinge
#

fair enough

delicate flame
delicate flame
#

Asian languages, for example, are a lot more alien to the concept of doing at all

round hinge
#

Whorfianism?

delicate flame
#

Yet being is used universally
If it's true, you don't say "yes" in Chinese, you say "of being"

#

And being is not bound by any forms, included temporal

#

Though Transistor itself does not touch upon much on this theme in particular

round hinge
#

my worldview is fairly straightforward

  • minimize suffering = good, causing it = bad
  • recognize the limits of your own perspective— you only have one, after all, and there are billions
  • evil usually happens when people are unable to share in someone else's perspective
  • don't use a simple variable to measure a complicated problem (like good or evil, or in the case of Transistor, for instance, political or apolitical)
    everything else is all gravy
delicate flame
#

More Existential than Ontological

round hinge
#

i analyze things a lot but i don't think i really use the same framework as you

delicate flame
#

Although..

#

I do strive to reduce it
Just, not having that in mind

#

If you mind less, your mind is more free

round hinge
#

Suffering is rather important to me as many people i know and care about have been very unhappy much of the time and i generally prefer it when they aren't

#

maybe a few years of secluded contemplation would change my perspective, idk

delicate flame
#

In other words, not focusing on the negative is liberating
where not focusing still implies you're taking it into consideration

#

That said, I aim to reduce the Unfavorable
As bad can't be reduced, and evil (suffering is part of) does not exist

round hinge
delicate flame
#

I understand
It took me around 15 years to come to the conclusions I have been presenting just now
Even so, not in the best form

round hinge
#

yeah it's a process (heh)

delicate flame
#

I've already outlined the main points of my Ideology, but I need further refinement and a way to properly publish it

#

Transistor plays a major role in it, particularly the Process and Traces as aspects of Fate and a broader term for Legacy

#

The bottom line is that we all wield Transistors, in a sense

#

We just don't realize it

round hinge
#

Transistor has influenced my worldview a lot as well, although for me it's more external— it has helped clarify my perspective on the internet/technology, democracy, art, celebrity/influence and where those three things collide

#

also over several years :P

delicate flame
#

Ironically I don't think about technology anymore when it comes to Transistor

#

I just see it as one very big metaphor

#

The fact that the game never mentions what the origin of Cloudbank is, even indirectly, is yet another clue for me

#

Thing is, it's beside the point

round hinge
#

a lot of people have the theory that it's a simulation but also fair

delicate flame
#

Well, this just parallels how we ourselves still don't know what the origin of our own Universe is
Sure, Big Bang or Some Supernatural Force behind the Creation, but neither can be really proven

round hinge
#

huh

delicate flame
#

Same thing

#

But it's just one assumption

#

We just kind of started existing
Being there
But, just like the World of Transistor, our own Universe is most likely eventually coming to an End... Or another Beginning? (NG+ for Transistor)

#

We simply can't know
But it's in the understanding that it doesn't matter where there's no reason for despair or panic

round hinge
#

nihilism?

delicate flame
#

That too

#

Nihilism is on the extreme, with other Philisophies like Absurdism being further from the edge, yet still not really being at terms with our condition you've mentioned

#

I myself have personally struggled accepting it, especially for the last few years

round hinge
delicate flame
#

mhm

round hinge
#

do you feel that's changed recently?

delicate flame
#

Even if you find meaning in leaving Legacy, what does if matter if that as well doesn't last forever?

round hinge
#

maybe it's time for a change in perspective?

delicate flame
#

Well, the time for me has come
And so have I

#

"In a room full of mirrors, I figured it out"

round hinge
#

?

delicate flame
# round hinge ?

I've been in a constant process of changing my perspective, by far mostly through internal analysis of the World and not adherence to someone else's ideas

#

Think of me as an Ancient Greek philosopher
As my own ideas regarding the Soul, for instance, apparently closely resemble that of Plato
As well as his idea of love, though he has not called it by his own name like it is now

round hinge
#

You ever read House of Leaves? bc if not i think you'd have a field day with that one

delicate flame
#

Yet I also managed to find balance in seemingly contradicting views
For Plato, it's Aristotle

round hinge
delicate flame
#

I've taken from many, though without realizing it
But conscious assimilation of information is analoguous to Processing Traces in Transistor

#

Me listening to Music I've pointed out has always been that

#

Of live and deceased artists alike

round hinge
#

you should read Katabasis and House of Leaves

#

Yeah I remember it but don’t have the screenshot

#

I bought it recently-ish because I rlly liked the stranger, but didn’t get to reading it yet

#

I also got the myth of Sisyphus but I hear other than That One Quote it’s not very good. Maybe

raw tangle
delicate flame
#

earlier I meant to revisit that one youtube video where they discuss the process (haha) of making the game

#

hmph
but I also want to complete Undertale's 10th anniversary streams as just any commentary from Toby Fox is already a goldmine for me

#

I'll do both in due time, surely

delicate flame
#

Not because it was not significant
just
not enough for me personally I guess?

#

The Stranger on the other hand was the book that intruigued me the most during my existential ruminations (and depression...) in 2022

#

I still didn't read it, but did view the main points, like with many works

#

Perhaps that has influenced particularly the idea of Unknown as the counterpart of the protagonist

#

Very much likely if what you said is true about Plague

#

Though...

#

It's more like Unknown was the one killed

#

Maybe Red is a bit of a Stranger in a way, but instead of her killing it's her Processing others after being considered too outstanding in a negative way?

#

No clear parallels with that book it looks like
But that doesn't necessarily deny impact it could've had

#

I'd honestly at this point do whatever I'd need to to have an interview with the Team myself

#

Especially Darren as by far my most streamed artist
And one to remain that for a while

delicate flame
#

It's as simple as
Control:
Over yourself - Unrestrained ✅
Over literally anything else - Present, but as an Illusion one must dissolve ❌
It took me ages to come to this conclusion on my own, but it is a perfect, flawless explanation of how our entire Universe Operates
We're just Programs, Users inside the Process that we can observe, learn, but not modify as we have no Rights, no Permission for this "Root Access"
That's why praying is useless
you're trying to reason with the mindless Process that does not discriminate
yet exists to serve you

#

here's an insight of how I directly reference Transistor in my Philosphy

round hinge
delicate flame
#

I have genuienly started an entire framework of Universe as a Machine analogy and it's hard to believe for me how much sense it makes, but
I've always sensed that something just pulled me towards Transistor
From a music streaming service's Algorithm suggesting its Soundtrack to the themes deeply resonating with me even though right off the bat I was confused on what is the whole thing really about
While the strictly speaking Gameplay isn't as memorable even for me, the Aesthetics and the Thematical aspect are simply that sublime

Part of me wishes SG could keep going with that approach, sacrificing gameplay that at least the original Hades has notably excelled at already

Though at the end of the day, we're all Cloudbank citizens
Often thinking we have our voices stolen, yet it's still within us, pushing us to Sing what our Soul Speaks

#

Camerata is essentially literally a self-installed Operational System on the Software that is The Process, studied by Royce and Hardware as the visible part of the City explored by him and Kendrells
They had the Illusion that they had the Root access, but, really, no one does nor can

#

Though it's not exactly correct to call Process Software as that would technically just be Camerata itself, then

It's more like the entire Current that is passed between Hardware (City modified behind the scenes), not just the electrical

#

Which you can redirect, but not change nature and destination of

round hinge
#

The thing i've had the most difficulty trying to figure out, trying to reconcile myself with the happenings of the universe, is the nature of self. What does it mean to control yourself, really?

Because the term "control" implies that one thing is controlling something else. It's something you do to something external. If you wish to change something in yourself, it must be because there is one part of you that wishes for a change, and another part that does not.

#

To me, this sort of cognitive dissonance is what lies at the root of much suffering.

#

I think this is kind of what Freud was getting at with the id ego superego thing, but that way of framing things didn't really click with me the way it was explained.

#

So the conclusion I came to was that human beings, or at least me, have two big fundamental parts.

#

There is the part of you that decides what you want to do
There is the part of you that decides what you want to be

#

For instance, I want to be someone who is athletic, well-liked, well-read, etc. But the things I want to do don't always lead me towards that goal.

#

Many people spend their whole lives doing mental gymastics, trying to convince those parts to be in alignment. Usually one of two ways.

#

The David Goggins method, where you yell at the part of yourself that wants to do certain things until it wants to do something productive

#

And the Lizzo method, where you try to persuade the part of yourself that decides what you want to be that you're already happy with who you are.

#

These methods work for many people, but for a lot of people, these methods don't work the way they wish they would.

Some people try and fail to abuse themselves into working harder, but fail. Others try and convince themselves they're happy with their lives, but deep down aren't really content being who they are. Many do both.

#

When these methods fail, I think the best thing you can do is talk about it and try to find others who feel the same way as you.

#

If you want to get in the weeds, you could argue that there is a third part of you that moderates these parts (like what Freud described) and maybe even a fourth, subconscious part that decides what you need, and what actually makes you happy.

#

But the cognitive dissonance between these first two parts is what drives most people crazy I think

#

I don't know if this clicks with anyone, but hopefully some of you can relate!

I come back to this discord from time to time hoping that i will someday see news about Transistor 2. I wish they would still make good games like Bastion and especially Transistor.

If you have eagle eyes, or "ears" you can spot some metaphoric aspect in Hades II towards transistor, I do really like transistor and when i played Hades II i found many things and ideas that reincarnated in Hades.

One tip : Just hear Scylla's and her sirens wonderfull singing.

Some of my notice .: ⚠️ minor spoilers to Hades II

|| Functions - God's boons
Limiters - Vow of Rivals

(if i know properly) Darren Korb absolutely nails it when it comes to creating hypnotic, soul-stirring music. His soundtracks don’t just fit the game — they pull you in. There’s something about the way his music makes you feel devoted to the game’s bosses. And on top of that, he always chooses the perfect voice actress to bring that unique atmosphere to life.

For the transistor Ashley Barrett was the perfect choice and As for Hades II
Erin Yvette was similar awesome choice. The best thing as i say if you have eagle ear you exactly know where you can hear them singing together. (short of) ||

Also for some reason i really like Dora's voice tootrollartistic

tough i don't think will be Transistor II, or not in the close future but who know...

I just finished playing Transistor and I am devastated at the ending but in a good way I just… wow. Honestly I wish I could wipe my brain and experience it over and over again haha

#

I would highly recommend! And the music is so good too! Such a good game

#

I see talk about a hypothetical transistor 2, what would that be like? It seems like a done story so it’s hard for me to imagine it. Just curious what you all are thinking!

I think Transistor and Pyre are definitely the games I would most like to see adapted to tv (extremely unlikely to happen but it’s nice to think about). Both have really good aesthetics and worlds that could be expanded upon. I’d like if the Transistor tv show focused more on what Cloudbank was like before the events of the game (such as detailing the rise of the Camerata, perhaps from Sybil’s perspective?). It would also flesh out many of characters who are only talked about in the terminals and function descriptions (and would also expand on characters such as Grant and Asher Kendrell who imo didn’t get as much screen time as they deserved). The second half of the show would probably more closely follow the events of the game although I imagine the second half would feel very different from the first and would be difficult to seamlessly connect.

Hey I’m trying to play the game for the first time and my controller won’t work

#

It’s not a problem with the controller itself it works on other games but idk why it wont work on this game

#

Does anyone have any idea what’s wrong?

My cursor also totally disappears in fullscreen lol

So playing mouse and keyboard also isn’t an option

Instead of a Transistor sequel or prequel, I'd prefer a Red album, maybe with some guest musicians like the amazing players that worked with Darren Korb for Hades 2.

ofc since i'm not a protessional musician, as in i can't even read notes, it would have to be a tuneless cycle

#

also whenever i've tried writing something based on the world of transistor, i've always fallen into one trap or another

#

the big one is that if i deviate enough from the perspective of red and unknown, i end up just writing about irl, since i've always bought stock in the idea that cloudbank is basically a discord chat

#

A fun headcanon I have is that one time, Red wrote a song wishing it would rain in Cloudbank sometimes because, you know, everyone always votes for sunshine. After she released it, her fans made it rain for a solid week, leaving Red lowkey freaked out. Thought it might be fun to write that

#

That's just Prayers for Rain by The Cure 😁

Hey, friends. I’ve played Transistor on PC and Switch, now the PS4 version on PS5. I’ve encountered an issue I’ve never experienced before: sometimes I’ll load the game and elements of the GUI will be missing - button icons, borders around the function icons, a portion of the right side of the health bar, and sometimes the health bar itself will be empty and black. Closing and restarting the game seems to resolve the problem, but it’s not consistent and can take multiple attempts.

Has anyone else had this issue? I’m wondering if it’s an issue specific to PS5, or if my data is somehow corrupted. I contacted Supergiant support and received an automated email telling me they don’t offer personalized support for their older titles, so here I am.
