Bastion is still very solid imo, but it definitely feels like it’s aged a bit more than every other SGG game, at least in how gameplay feels
As a case in point, one may observe that even here nobody has the Bastion flair, it's either All the Games or one of the others 😅
Tbf, part of that’s likely bc everyone who really enjoyed Bastion going All
But if you want a similar combat style to Bastion but a bit more updated, Hades’ combat is very smooth, and while it’s also heavy on story, it isn’t quite as heavily tied to the game as Bastion or Transistor
for me bastion feels a bit difeerent because of how the make the characters imo, all of em still has the same supergiant feel to it to an extent hahah
TLDR Bastion doesn’t have a dash
And the perspective is closer, which contributes to the slower feeling
Amazing
ayyy congratz!
Yeah, you nailed it lol. The Dash makes Hades soooo much better. Now I wish that Bastion has a Dash, too
It has the roll, at least... which helps a bit...
But yeah, it's a lot slower.
It does almost make it feel like Bastion wasn't meant to be fast-paced, but sure as heck it still makes the fighting feel frantic when I play it now
Back in the Bastion though, the world be so zen
Yeah, I suppose it's a bit slow to leave space for the awesome narration.
what weapons do you guys use for who knows where
the bed

bruh
does no one talk here
pike/mortar iirc is considered to be the best
for zulf's?
what spirts do u guys use
uhhh its been ages since I played for real but off the top of my head
bastion bourbon
lifewine
cham-pain
stabsinthe
doomshine
are the best ones from what I recall
ah
yeah, im pretty sure thats correct
k good
I like pike and pistols, but I haven't beaten it yet
oh
I was hard carried by the mortar
interesting
why mortar?
mortar is the one ranged that i never touched
its high spash dmg could be replaced with rifle with explosive bullets or calamity cannon
It surprisingly one of the bests
I used it to handle all of the idols mostly becuase it could do massives amount of damage at a decent range
jumping in really quickly before I go to sleep to say machine gun is best gun
You think they mean repeaters?
not a repeater fan but target-seeking bolts is nice 😐
repeater go brrrrrrrrrrr
wait there are target seeking bolts?
Theory time
||"Mother, I'm Here" is not Zulf's theme||
||It's actually the Kid's theme||
Evidence:
||1) Listen to the person singing the song, and then listen to the sounds the Kid makes in-game; they sound like the same person||
||2) Zulf's mother is never mentioned anywhere in the game, but we know that the Kid cared about his own mother; he went to work at the Rippling Walls to get his mother money, and from what Rucks says, people don't just work on the Rippling Walls for the funsies; it's very hard work and a lot of people aren't up for it||
||3) The first two verses talk about riding on the wind to return to "home sweet home"; I suspect this is referring to the Kid using the skyways to return to the Bastion at the end of each stage||
Pickaxe is going off with cold hard facts
also, it's been a while so I may be remembering incorrectly but ||didn't the Kid's mother die/disappear while he was on a tour of duty? To pair with this, the lyrics would be read as the "mother" being absent or deceased||
This may be the hopefulness in me
But I choose to believe the Calamity didn't cause destruction of the entire world
Just Caelondia and most of the surrounding wilderness
But Caelondia is just one city of many
There are probably others who weren't even affected
The first sign they would get that anything was wrong would be people returning from journeying to Caelondia and reporting that the land was now a massive burning crater
||perhaps, in the endgame there are a lot of ura||
||yeah the kid's mom died during his first shift on the rippling walls||
welp
||"Kid hurried on home when he done his time, turns out his momma's time was done too"||
something like that
thought so, it's been a while since I played it (and I didn't get through many fo the dreams bc they're hard )
really?
i do dreams with 4 or 5 idols casually
something's wrong with ur spirits probably
I played the game once through to beat it, didn't jive with it so I didn't do much completion stuff at all
ah rip
i felt like the evac ending where rucks has his new coat was supposed to imply they found other people. bastion is a game with a lot of hope so i think there's a very big possibility of places far enough away to be ok, or at least managing
Theory time
At Urzendra Gate, you can find a child's drawing
This drawing depicts an Ura with black hair, an Ura with green hair, and, significantly, an Ura with white hair
Now hear me out
Rucks says about the kid that his white hair did him no favors growing up
And it's heavily implied that the Caelondians are somewhat racist towards Ura
What if the Kid is part Ura on his mother's side
And his white hair, an Ura trait, would cause him to be discriminated against
perhaps
During the Jim Crow era, there were people who used dehumanizing language for mixed-race kids
They'd call them things like "offspring" and "spawn"
So yeah, if the Kid had some Ura genetics, and his white hair was a sign of that, I can totally see people hating him
i thought the ura had black hair tho
||to backup your claim about it being the kids song it also could be the goddess Micia since she is usually referred to as mother by rucks when talking about her. She's basically the creator of Caelondia in the eyes of the people from there||
||the lorn mother?||
yea
||arent all the gods ura or just pyth?||
i think the gods are not specifically ura or cael, they're worshipped by both but in different capacities
My understanding is that the ura take the religious aspect of the gods more seriously, but otherwise they both share the same pantheon. But then again, I hadn't quite unlocked all the idols yet.
||im pretty sure the pyth plush said that the ura feared the gods while the caelondians made them toys and put them on their walls||
yeah that's what I was thinking
something about bastion i thought about when i first played, but haven't really noticed other people talk about, is that zia's boyfriend was definitely a Cael spy
Oh, 100%. It just adds to the tragedy.
I do find it fascinating that a non-Ura speaking Ura is such a huge taboo, but honestly I thought Zia's bf was just a racist extremist.
I haven't heard her backstory in a while. what exactly happened with her boyfriend?
Short version is ||that he talked her into bringing him home, pissed off her dad to the point of throwing the bf out of the house, talked her into trying to skip town with him, and then turned around and told the guards she was an Ura spy working for her dad to bring Mancer secrets back to the tunnels.||
The fate of the boyfriend himself afterwards is left up in the air, but given the nature of the calamity...
yeah. it seems he wasn't directly tied to the Calamity but he knew about it
through her who knows where iirc
The || cook pot ||, right?
yeah
(that tag is probably safe to click, I'm just being extra cautious)
hey who knows where is early on in the game, i think? it's been awhile since ive played this
ah
i dont remember that much of zia past
or zulf's
i just know the kid's really well
Y'know, its funny. When I played the game I only gained access to the Kid and Zia's backstory stuff, but then after beating it the game mentioned that there were also dream sequences for Zulf and Rucks. Is that a NG+ thing or did I just rush through the game without noticing them?
I think Zulf's dream is available right before the final level and Rucks' is available in NG+/Score Attack
yeah
Terminal March is an amazing boss theme
At least, I consider it to be a boss theme considering it plays during every "boss encounter"
Not that the game really has bosses because all the bosses look the same
But I like to use my imagination and pretend there are bosses
Glutus and Glandon are bosses
The Lungblossom is another boss
Sir Lunky is a third
I can't think of any others I would consider to be bosses
The lung blossom feels too easy. If you have the spirit that let's you full heal with each healing bottle you can sit there and repeater it to death. Unless you have idols. Although that is how most of the game work
Yeah I know, but it feels like a boss encounter
You fight it in a closed arena, and it plays the theme used for dramatic encounters when you fight it
And it also is big and has a lot more health than most enemies
True, it's a s close to a boss as this game gets
I think the encounter with Glutus and Glandon would have been a lot more memorable if they had unique sprites
Like, they had different clothes than normal Gasfellas
Oh don't forget Queen Anne
Oh yeah, Queen Anne
How in the hades did I forget about Queen Anne
Bastion is an excellent game
That being said, here are my biggest criticisms
- Weapon balancing
While it is fun to experiment with different weapon combos and modifiers, there are some weapons which are slightly inferior to others
A skilled player can make any weapon work, there aren't any bad weapons
But some weapons, at their most basic unpowered level, aren't all that great
For example, while the Calamity Cannon has the best damage output in the game, it's outshined by other weapons in pretty much every way
And the wild outskirts don't do the Slinger Pistols justice
It's not a good pairing against the enemies in that level
- Enemy sprites
I get that this is an indie game, and they only had so much resources
But I wish there was more enemy variety
But whatever, that's a nitpick
I guess weapon balancing is my only real criticism
That, why would you put the fast paced gunslinger pistols in the area where you can only hit enemies once before they close back up, or are generally immune to projectiles.
so i just finished this game, and i feel like i may have missed something about the story? i was expecting the twist to be that rucks was the bad guy or that he had gone crazy with ambition, but at the end you just fly away with him - did anyone else feel this when playing?
I loved the game, but I feel like I missed a story beat or two towards the end
|| There are a few different endings... ||
||yeah I evacuated but I read that if you reset then nothing happens, is that right?||
|| absolutely no idea! I barely remember how the reset ending went. S'what I get for playing in the middle of the semester ||
That being said, I feel like the "twist" was more along the lines of || the reveal of Rucks as a Mancer, and the Ura turning on Zulf ||
Yeah I guess in the end ||no one was really good and they were able to meet up over their shared past sins?|| does that sound right at all?
(ending) || Specifically, as you play, it becomes less and less clear which side is good, and I at least started to think the Ura might've been in the right, and they somewhat were, but then they leave Zulf for dead ||
Yeah, that sounds about right
Sure thing ^.^
lol i forgot all about glutus and glandon
the slinger pistols are actually pretty good
the hammer is the only one that is not good
they all have their uses
except for the hammer
Hammer isn't the worst, Machete is
and w/ 10 idols active, Hammer might be slightly better than Bellows as well
_ _
while the Calamity Cannon has the best damage output in the game, it's outshined by other weapons in pretty much every way
not really, the only problem is that you get it last
you can snipe enemies offscreen w/ it, the fire rate is pretty good for such a damaging weapon, and the auto-aim upgrade is great
for 10 idol runs, big damage hits that work well at long range >>> multi-hit weapons
true, cannon has its uses and can home in
why do u think hammer > machete?
I think the only real bad guys are the dudes who activated the calamity
I know it was sabotaged, but they still tried to blow up the Ura

NYA :3
@ancient cape why do u think hammer > machete?
Hammer is a little bit clunky to use, but works a lot better if you have 10 idols active
1st, you can output a lot of damage in a single attack when fully upgraded (lots of damage upgrades), esp. w/ the charged focus attack (pretty safe too since you charge it w/ the shield)
2nd, you can knockback and stun w/ your attacks while not moving, which is very important for a melee weapon
_ _
Machete does lots of small hits, which just turns enemies transculent fast so you can't hit them, before dealing any major damage
Machete also doesn't knock back and has little range, which sucks big time when all idols are active because enemies deal damage and slow you down when they touch you
you can play a throwing build w/ it, but there's way better ranged options, and Pike does it so much better
_ _
Pike in general is the best melee weapon by far, much better than both Hammer and Machete
good single hit damage (+ crits), knockback on thrusts, ignores armor(!) and can be thrown in case you need it
Yeah pike is really good
Only reason I like thrown machete over pike is because it has a much lower CD
we had a little bit of weapon talk before (incl. a tier list to kick things off):
#bastion message
setting sail is so touching i
hi
got an issue with bastion
the screen goes black but icons remain when i first meet the Narrator
early
could you try verifying file integrity?
@open python i shall try,, however it never seems to do anything if i try with any game i have issues with
not all issues are caused by or fixed by it, but it's usually worth a try
funnily enough i actually only downloaded Bastion coz i was having that issue with Hades >.<
if you need help with Hades, come by #h1-tech-support , I can help you get that fixed
well, it was fixed ater i sent gavin my files
they did a lil patch i think
ah actually @open python i fixed the screen disapearance thing
it caused a new issue though
controller now wont work
Try disconnecting any controllers you have connected, then reconnecting just that one
ill try now
So I recently played through Hades and Transistor on the switch and loved them both. Is Bastion worth picking up too?
I'd say so, it's a great game and you'll see a lot of both Hades and Transistor in Bastion, while still being its own game
Or more accurately, there's a lot of Bastion in Hades and Transistor
Cool, I’ll probably grab it whenever it pops up for sale next.
I’ve read mixed reviews about how “polished” Bastion’s gameplay is compared to everything they’ve made since, so that was my only real concern. It certainly looks like fun.
yeah it doesn't quite have the same finesse as hades but it still holds up well on its own
Mhmmm, don't go in expecting Hades level of polish. Still a very enjoyable game, though
Bastion is definitely slower than Hades, and without Turn(). However, I still really enjoyed it—the story has a lot of depth, the art is great, and the gameplay is straightforward but detailed
I’m replaying Bastion for the first time since it came out. I don’t think I ever finished Who Knows Where the first time around, but I just did and phew did I miss out on some lore lol
I don't think I can finish idols runs on Bastion without trusty Spear and Carbine.
its such a good combo
Guess I’ll be playing this sooner than expected. Bastion and Transistor are on sale again in the Switch e-shop.
nice
wayment, they're on switch too?
Everything except Pyre, I think.
I’m about one hour in at this point. Best two bucks I’ve spent in a long time.
bruh
it was only $2?
?
was it on the switch or was it on steam
i though it was only $2 on switch
cuz i was thinking of getting it for the switch even though i have it for pc anyways
oh
I got it on my Switch. It’s actually $3, but I used some of my e-shop “gold” to knock another dollar off that price.
Go for it. These games are a steal at that price.
it's Hammertime
i've been playing it again (havent played since about 2015 maybe) and i forgot how good it is! doing new game plus
So I’m not entirely sure how far I am (just finished the level where you get ||the mortar|| ), but I’m having a blast. Can’t believe I almost dismissed Bastion entirely.
glad you're enjoying!
2021 is going to be Year of Pyth
Gods ain't gonna help ya
Anyone else think the soundtrack is dope? I had assumed Hades was Korb’s finest work, but now I’m having second thoughts.
I love Bastion's soundtrack for its "adventurous" feel, most of the soundtracks are memorable. Twisted Streets, Bynn the Breaker, Terminal March, Mancer's Dilemma, just to name a few of my favorites.
Yeah, all the SG OSTs are great in their own right
all soundtracks are good but bastion is definitely my favorite
Its pyre for me
bastion
transistor
pyre
hades
Woah woah woah, we dont do that here
this game costs 2.50 in the nintendo shop for anyone who hasnt played it yet
hmm, this game is on sale , let me buy it
I didn't expect Bastion to be this cool
like cool and chill with the environment, and the soothing voice
The narrator is greaaat
is he also voiced by cunningham?
wait, he is
no wonder I was like "hey, he sounds like the transistor dude"
....
I'm confused...
Logan voices Rucks, Mr. Nobody/the Transistor, AJ, and Hades/Homer. Among others, but those are all of the narrator characters he voices.
logan's voice range is legendary
when I learned he did hades, achilles, charon, the narrator, and poseidon in hades i lost my mind
as well as rucks and the transistor
In us normies' defense, there is a modulator on the Hades voice.
At least Achilles and the Narrator are him just doing the voice, so he's still S+ tier.
He was the Archjustice in Pyre too, which is a big departure from his sound in Bastion and Transistor
He was androbolese, wow
Finished!, and holy this game is beautiful
I'm not one for fantasy action adventure , but I liked this one
and the soundtracks are awesome
Darren's a mad genius.
Happy New Year!
happy new year!
Zulwood
how does bourbon exist in the bastion universe? doesn't that mean kentucky also exists?
😐
Explain the gameplay of Bstion to me like i'm 5. Go!
Kid has weapons and blows up stuff
wait so is it like a gain money buy things game like clash of clans
nope
takes gems to build town
ok explain it to me like i am 12
this kid has his town shattered to pieces, he must rebuild it using gems from different places
Pick up small number of big magic gems
Build town
Blow up other stuff
oh wait I missed the 12 bit
Imagine it like Crash bandicoot, but instead of evil doctor or something , he uses the gems to rebuild his town
is it kinda like the contracting system from hades but more refined so they can make it the main gameplay??
but that's what i love about hades
you're comparing Sonic to Super Mario with that term
Hahaha
True
Slower than Hades, no ifs or buts
Though it didn't feel too slow or anything
Hades is way fast imo
child uses weapons of war and liquor to obtain powerful rocks to make a nice town
We don't know if he's a literal child or if Rucks just calls him a kid cos he's an old man
idk if y'all picked it up, but the kid lowkey has a deep voice
i mean he did serve almost two tours on the wall, he's gotta be in his twenties
I'd estimate the Kid is 18
Kid didn't appreciate all the guessin' 'bout his age. Builders on the wall spent the best years of their lives there, weren't much for talking about age by the time they retired from it.
the evacuation being the happy ending just seems wrong tbh
just to get your shard so you and your 2 friends can fly away you went and killed probably about 50 more people from the ura
The alternative is possibly turning the entire game into a Groundhog Day-esque time loop
I don't think there is a 'happy' ending to bastion at all
The evacuation feels a lot more bittersweet to me
bittersweet endings are really sgg's thing
^
TRUE
and they do it so well, tears() 😩
you called
LOL
why can't I see the bastion game on my nintendo e-store?
Do you want to redownload it?
no, I think we don't have it on Brazil lol
I'm learning how to download from another region
oh, okay, yea, that might be the case, that it's not in your region. I'm not sure if downloading from another region is possible...
really? i'm watching some videos that says it's possible, but they're from like, 2019
is it a download restriction, or a purchase restriction?
That's why I said I'm not sure - never done it, never tried it, never was looking for info about it. Should've said "I don't know if that's possible" 😉
I remember you could purchase games from another region on older Nintendo consoles, but no clue if thats still possible on the Switch.
Hey, does anybody know how to get Discord overlay to work with Bastion?
Settings > game activity > click on the display button to make it appear
That isn't working
I've turned it on in Discord, but it still won't show up for some reason
might need to toggle fullscreen in-game?
I'll try that, thanks

Hard to beat Setting Sail, Coming Home... though Brusher Patrol has been my ringtone for ages
I was going to say something about Brusher Patrol
but this comment summed it up for me
ngl I would put it as my discord ringtone
Brusher Patrl is good. ngl I think my fave is Pale Watchers?
Why does this one sounds like it should have been _a_m_d li_e t_is?
"Mine, Windbag, Mine" is probably my fav from the OST

My favorite piece is either Mine, Windbag, Mine, Build that Wall, or Spike on a Rail.
Build that Wall, Mother I'm Here, and Spike on a Rail for me
Setting Sail, Coming Home - but the Mancer's Dilemma is a close second!!
terminal march is a bop
@chilly oyster just for future reference supergiant have uploaded the full soundtrack to their youtube channel
^^^
tbh i dont know why people love bastion so much
its boring
i have played around 2 hours and
meh its boring af
It's not for everyone—definitely slower than Hades, if nothing else
I enjoying the tactical aspect of it, and the story was interesting
^^
same
ofc at the end of the day its about opinion and bastion does FEEL slower tbh but its still a great game
story was p interesting as swan said, and the characters and soundtrack are very memorable
tbh, i think Bastion, while more straightforward than other Supergiant games, is still one of the more complex indie titles when it comes to gameplay
it's fun figuring out weapon combinations and builds that work for you, esp. when it comes to tackling 10 idols / dream challenges
2h isn't a lot of time invested, it takes a while until you're able to see what this game has to offer
it's also really fun to speedrun iyam
is the idols harder than the limiters found in
?
I've tackled one or two dream challenges but I was quickly deleted
nah limiters are much more restrictive, so i think they make the game harder overall (even though some function combinations are pretty OP nonetheless)
Yeah, I agree, the limiters are more restrictive than the idols. Of course, Transistor is the tougher game overall, I think.
One of the things I greatly enjoy about SG games overall is how deep their game mechanics go. Even in Bastion, which is their simplest as far as gameplay goes, has a bit of strategy as far as choosing your load outs and picking weapon upgrades.
yeah, you can tell they care just as much about the gameplay as they do about audiovisual presentation and an engaging story
it's all been there from the beginning
Anyone know how much damage stabsinthe deals?
Nevermind dont need it anymore
i only now noticed while looking at references that the kid wears goggles while using the calamity cannon
they look like the nightmare vision goggles from that one meme
How would you guys go about doing a 10 idols runthrough of the game on a fresh file? Would you just breeze through the game the first time with no idols, then get them all on the second run, or play through the first run with the limited idols you have, and after you finish it, replay it while adding the new idols on the second playthrough
if you're going for Maximum Optimization™️ you'd want to activate them all for the minor increase in rewards you get from having the idols on
also because 0 to 10 idols is significantly less of a difficulty leap than [however many you get] to 10
my friend is playing bastion for the first time and she keeps jumping off the bastion... not sure how she'll react when she hears about zulf's backstory
Finished bastion, and wow... that's one special ending.
||I loved how it was a choice between going back or forwards, and I felt like it was a very fufilling end to the story with the gang going to explore the world||
except for hurting my pets 🤬 🤬
Honestly I felt that
I reloaded so many times to ||save my pets when Zulf attacked the base.||
||Smh that’s the only thing he did wrong, harmed my pets.||
i wish bastion got the same love that hades is getting right now 😔
same but i understand why it its harder to get into now
hades combat is so smooth and easy to pick up but bastion is a little bit more clunkier
yeah sure
the moment in bastion when ||the narration switched from omniscient to present-tense and uncertain|| is seared into my brain
what a shift
there's a few moments in storytelling that will stay with me until i die and that is 100% one of them
wait when did that happen
|| the last area ||
Bastion got a ton of love when it first came out. People went absolutely nuts over Bastion.
Bastion won so many awards that people were complaining about it.
And it is still generally considered one of the first games to popularize the ‘indie’ genre
Yeah, I think I saw someone say that it was Bastion and Coma that ended up giving the signal boost to what indie games could be
Either way I’m like 9 years late but I played Bastion and HRK MY FEELS I DIDNT NEED THEM ANYWAYS
I think that it’s especially really cool to see the carried over concepts and game play elements from Bastion to Hades (I’ve only played those two games)
there're a couple things that stay consistent across all of their games
powershot/cast being the most iconic, I think
||the isometric camera...||
oh definitely, I was referring just to gameplay
Yeah I noticed the powershot timing stuff, as well as the counter mechanic
Laughs awkwardly in “was bad at timing”
once thy thing flashes, thy action is cast
Snskwjksjwjsjs
as to make it for anything that powercast exist in
Ye
hey, shot in the dark: does anyone know how to open the audio files for bastion?
theyre xwb files, and google tells me i need an ancient microsoft program
which i tried but no luck
found some steam guides for opening the files for other games but didnt help
if anyone knows how i can extract the sound work for the game please let me know 🙏
only audio program I have any familiarity with is Audacity, but idk what formats it'll open
I'd ask in the Modding server, pinned in #self-promotion . They have a channel for Bastion
I got all the available Supergiant games after starting Hades since I loved it so much, and just the other night I began my journey through Bastion. One beautiful song sung by Ashley Barrett, ||a fake core||, and a hitless shield proving grounds run later and 6.6 hours was clocked in one night. Safe to say I've got a ways to go, but I'm thoroughly enjoying these games as well as their parent company and community.
Glad you're enjoying it
Heck yeah thank ya
my friend who went through all 4 sgg games played bastion a while back and i jumped straight out of my chair when the ||ura raid|| happened and she screamed "||MY BIRD||"
||NOT THE BIRD||
Ugh, ikr, it always hits me. I'd rather ||lose Pyth||
You know when I first bought Bastion i didn't expect to have the ability to get high yet here we are.
hahaha
yall ever just replay bastion at 3am and just smile when you reach the ending
like man i love that game
also i hate the machete proving ground -_-
like every other i can do in a couple tries
but that
The pike one was pretty hard for me
Yeah, Pike is my least favorite.
pike is ok if you can find the right spot to stand. the repeater one gave me anxiety, though
im tempted to try speedrunning bastion and then i watch the wr and im like "what the hell is he doing to get 2 cores and a shard from cinderbrick ;w;"
Yeah the speedrun involves some exploits if I remember correctly
"some" it just skips the last chunk of the game
and i mean since i play on switch i might not even be able to do half of the tricks
Ah, yeah
yk how old is the kid canonically
cuz like 10 years on the walls
- whatever the age req for that is
I remember my brother telling me that he's canonically a young adult, it's just he's perceived as a kid by Rucks and so the player's view sees that as well
ah, neat
Now I wanna see a fully formed non-chibi version of the Kid
probably would go something like
absolutely hilarious
ahhh I just love that Supergiant's work is often used as a reference for my design lectures, looking at an audio lecture and Bastion comes up for narration
So anyone else never been able to beat the repeater trial?
Yes
I found a way to cheese it
I used the seeking shots and still constantly missed 1
Maybe practice your aim beforehand
also, go ahead from the trial itself for more time to shoot
i beat it with like 1-2 upgrades, essentially i just stood on the safe platform and shooting whats ahead until i clear those or the new path starts falling
but those 4 endings
technically 4, I guess
It took me a hot sec to understand why y’all said 4 endings
I decided to help Zulf on both of my play throughs 😔 I didn’t want to leave him there to die
What happens when you don’t save him?
hes just not there
if you save him and go back you get another drawing or 2 to show what happened to him
and if you ditch him and stay it just skips his shots
like its very slight but i find it enough to quantify as 4 different ending s
Fair enough!!
also you don't get the long walk with Mother I'm Here iirc, its just a fight out
Zolf deserves to be left behind.
If you're extremely compassionate saving him is worthwhile and justifiable, but him sabotaging the Bastion and leaving all of the kid, Zia, and Rucks to die let me leave him to die with zero regrets.
(Babs may fight me for this)
He tried to nuke the one viable savior of the old world out of spite.
He can get stepped on by every member of the Ura I cut through to get out of the Terminals.
I feel like there's an argument to be made that he didn't trust the Bastion
That it wasn't just going to "finish the job" and kill the Ura
Not trusting Restoration? 100%, eff that.
I might have my terminology off, it's been a while since I've played.
Anyway, not trusting the time reset? Sure.
I'd be suspect in his shoes.
But to blow up the whole damn thing? Nah, he's gone.
All i know is that he caused my pets to die, and for that i dont forgive him. I saved him to be the bigger man but it doesn't mean I forgave him
he didn't leave them to die tho? he did mess up the bastion but it's nothing that would've killed anyone. and when he sent the ura he gave the Kid a warning and took Zia peacefully. it was just to kill rucks which i do like rucks but he's a war criminal. the man was complicit in genocide. i don't really get why people are like "Zulf messed up so he should be left to die a miserable death" but rucks is everyone's favorite grandpa because he felt bad about attempting to wipe out an entire race
My big difference between Rucks and Zulf is that, when faced with the reality of the Calamity, Rucks tried to fix the damage he caused and Zulf threw everyone he could (arguably besides Zia) off a ledge. Until Evacuation, the Bastion is the only safe place left in Caelondia, and Zulf did his level best to destroy it. Warning the Kid doesn't help if the only safe place the Kid has to retreat to is ruined. Warning me that my house is about to get flattened in the middle of the worst cold spell my town has seen in years doesn't help if I don't have another place to shelter.
Yes, Rucks' work on the Calamity is horrifying, but he tried to make it right.
As tragic as Zulf going off the deep end is, he still went off the deep end whereas Rucks didn't pull the trigger.
Actually, I don't think we're ever told explicitly from an objective source who pushed Zia's father to trigger the Calamity. I think Rucks claims that he didn't have a part in it, which of course is an account that can't be fully trusted.
Assuming Rucks did push Zia's father to the breaking point, then he also deserves to go, but that doesn't absolve Zulf of the damage he caused for people innocent of the sins of Caelondia.
Ok, let me put in my two cents on this, because I've got Thoughts. My memory might be a little dim, so correct me where I go wrong.
Zulf spent a large part of his life trying to ease tensions and bring about harmony between Caelondians and the Ura. Devoted his life to it, in fact. He thought he was making some real progress.
Only to realize that his work never really mattered in the first place: all this time, Caelondian authorities were planning the genocide of his people.
Wouldn't that absolutely SHATTER your worldview? Wouldn't it wreck any bit of innocence you have? Wouldn't it make it difficult to know who to trust? How many Caelondians knew about this? How many didn't know about it, but would have been happy to see the Ura gone? How many were lying through their teeth? Zulf sure doesn't know anymore.
What would you expect him to do, with these realizations, in that state? "Oh, sure, I'll help you restore the nation that tried to wipe my people off the face of the earth?" No.
I've never left him behind, and I don't plan to. I'd rather not erase him from the greater narrative, the way Caelondia tried to erase the Ura.
So there it is. 🙂
Ok, let me put in my two cents on this, because I've got Thoughts. I don't like the way Zulf/Logan says Caelondia.
you mean the grandad? that is Rucks
like...his accent?
Caelondia, and then he points at you
Say, Londia, what are your opinions on Democrat representative Joseph Biden being elected?
Like Londia is a name
Idk it fits better as asmr than a narration
i mean Logan's smooth voice is perfect for asmr but yeah
Caelondia is the city, they're pronouncing it like it's meant to be pronounced-
The pronounciation is purely phonetic
What, you you prefer kAlE-oNdIa?
Hot take: It should be See-lawndia
i know it's pronouced that way but it seems like a dnd character name
what is this difficulty spike?
3 minute levels to 20 minute level that tease you with enemies until the end where they throw you into a bullet hell that drains all of your tonics and then you die after playing for 30 minutes because that last part at the end of the level last forever then you lose 30 minutes of progress.
i was really liking the game until it makes you play osu and touhou at the same after 30 minutes of normal gameplay just to upgrade a building that gives just more crap to do.
5/10 because i'm too bad to finish the game to form an actual opinion.
Did he even know what the bastion did?
We know he learned about the calamity's cause but not what the bastion did
I think he attacked the bastion because he saw it as the last reminents of the people who tried to distroy his people
that's true. i don't think rucks knowing about the whole genocide plan helped matters either
maryam you really said what i have wanted to say but couldn't put it into words so thank you
also re: resto ending: it's like. not really a good idea actually. because, we don't know how far it goes back. to fix what's happening you would have to go back a lot farther than just before the game started. the issue is not one man blew up the world, the issue is deep-seated racism on the cael's part that would push them into make a weapon that would wipe out an entire race to begin with
this isn't something that can be fixed by just not having venn blow the world up
or trying to not have him blow up the world. this is something that goes back a lot farther
Yeah
Reset ending just is kindof pointless
Also what do people think about the whole ||rucks is the kid from a previous reset|| theory?
when i opened up the game, there was a weird line going diagonally through my whole screen. anything i can do to fix this?
i think the rucks is kid theory has merit because there is a big time travel aspect to the game & the kid + rucks have a very similar character design going on, but i'm sort of like. i don't know how about the whole genocide component. kid in canon is very compassionate and very much wants to help people which really, goes against genocide, but rucks was ok with genocide
The thing is rucks would be the kid but not the same kid also he would have been much older and lived through a lot more therefor eventualy devolping an apathy towards the acts he would end up comiting towards the ura
Is the Bastion DLC avail on switch
What DLC? You mean the one w/ Ruck's dream sequence?
I'm pretty sure it is; you just gotta finish the story and play on the new game +
The strangers dream, maybe its just considered an update?
But if so I wish I bought it on sale even though I've beaten it, it deserves another playthrough
it’s part of new game +, just replay the game after beating it once
Nice ty
very late but who doesnt love war criminals tho
nothing better than committing crimes against humanity

@fleet magnet won't be a few minutes until mods talk us out of the other chat
but bastion should be easier to play since you've played hades, and bastion by far is the closest one to hades because of it's gameplay
and also has PowerCast
which is something I think you already fond of
thanks Amir
powercast
power smth is just
pretty much in every sgg dslkfjs
yeah anyways, gotta try it out, thanks
np
Honestly it was really interesting playing Hades first and Bastion second
It was so cool to see how some of the gameplay stuff from their first game carried over to Hades!!
just wait till you play transistor unless you already have idk
I haven’t
yea sgg is really smart about reusing assets and ideas
since elysium shades are similar to just transistor enemies with the soul dropping and potential respawn
Quiet eyezoom
I can't believe I never realised this... I feel I've been played like a fiddle
There's a thread on steam that mentioned a lot of them, lemme try to find it
FInally someone noticed this as well
THEY REALLY ARE JUST CELLS HUH. SIMILAR DESIGNS EVEN
i really wish I bought Bastion when it was on sale with Transistor
its very good :3. i played it on xbox 360 as a wee lad and got it on switch cuz i love it
i still need to buy transistor for switch tho, got it for free on epic and i wish i paid for it
I played Bastion on PC when I was a kid as well but never did a 2nd playthrough and the strangers dream makes me wanna replay it
i cant be the only one who almost starts tearing up when listening to the "remember the bastion" track right??
yea and like louts are just scumbags, numbskulls are squirts, and the thugs are similar to the ghasts
You're definitely not the only one
*gasfellas? I cannot believe that i've never made that connection before
yea
i noticed so quickly when i started playing
Nah me 2
good ;w;
the song makes me so nostalgic
it was such a good game when i was like 7
'Mother I'm Here' has never failed to make my eyes misty
After all this time I still consider Bastion my favorite game.
like tbh when im at the end of the game and the track starts playing i just put the earbuds fully on and just vibe
i just bought bastion while it was on sale im exited to play it 😄
nice
i'm ~~exited ~~ excited to play it too.
I mean, there's gameplay overlap in all of the enemies in SGG, it's a fun signature
There's always a big slow guy, there's always a slim zippy one, there's always some sort of small weirdly-cute mob
(Even in Pyre. /side-eyes the imp-blasting minigame)
I enjoy recognizing their studio signature motifs, it reminds me of playing classic Final Fantasy games and going "ooh, chocobo! ooh, moogle! ooh, summoners! ooh, pretty boy with white hair! ooh, something about crystals!"
adding on to the conversation in the supergiant games channel re: narration, the change of tine in jawson bog terrified me the first time i experienced it
jawson bog was just terrifying imo
||i didn't know what was happenning at first, but the way the narration remained the same except for that edge of scorn made me feel so small||
Even the Kid never did much care to talk about what happened in Jawson's Bog.
can't believe im starting Bastion again! finally out of the Outskirts. and so the story continues! im so excited 😄
omg i just started there today @pale briar
lol ok bai
gl!
Couple days late on the Bog discussion but I remember (jeez almost 10 years ago, already) doing it the first time and the vaguely sinister tone the narrator took on almost made me feel like there was about to be a twist where it's revealed that the calamity wasn't real and the Kid has been just murdering the hell out of everyone.
I'm glad it didn't happen that way now (for a variety of reasons), but in 2011, the significantly younger me was feeling very anxious about it.
I was terrified the whole time I was going to rescue Zia and found myself fighting Ura instead of monsters that I was going to end up accidentally shooting her
(as far as old Bastion anxiety goes)
i felt so bad throughout that whole sequence. by the time i got to ||the c h o i c e|| i was so emotionally overwhelmed, i had to get up and leave for a moment
yk my question is if the kid was being lethal or not during that sequence
since i dont think the kid could bring himself to kill someone yk??
||those ura looked pretty dead to me||
||not sure if you could make those weapons non-lethal if you tried||
i still don't listen to pale watchers in the ost. too intense, too many emotions
i mean yea, he does get 2 guns, 2 cannons, lots of blades
I mean, he did serve on the Rippling Wall, I'm pretty sure they weren't singing holiday carols with the Ura up there
we love him and consider him a soft boy but he's literally an ex-soldier, yeah?
The only one who ever volunteered for a second shift.
Yeah. He's not a tame lion, so to speak.
Yeah The Kid is a pretty straight arrow. He will do what he has to to get the job done, ||including killing||
He might look like a kid but he's probably up there with tough rugged eggs like Mad Max
I mean, I'd be a grizzled bad boy too if I ||signed up for 5 years in the military to send money home for my Mom, only to come home and find out that she's dead and all the money I was sending home was gone.||
"Fair to say the Kid's led a rough life, assuming the things he says in his sleep ain't no lie."
somehow that dark aspect of the story didn't properly hit me until the ||mid-game twist||. i think i just wasn't used to a game with such cute and colourful graphics going in that direction
though come to think of it, that backstory was never hidden, it was always out there, so the fault lies entirely with me for not having seen it (:
hehe like how rucks is just a war criminal
Though that you don't really learn until later.
Made it out of the Bog
U kno after playing Transistor the mechanics for Bastion don't feel so overwhelming
When I first played it I felt different
'from wharf to wilds' intensifies
awww yeeea
poor kid. it's funny how he holes up and drinks weird liquors in his tent, until it isn't.
decided to replay bastion on ios. Is there no way to throw the machete on the IOS version? I swear we could throw machetes on the PC version lol
You can on the PC, yeah—pretty sure it was by holding down the attack button?
nope, holding the attack button just spams the machete slashing motion. doesnt charge the throwing motion
And holding it down for other weapons works?
i mean holding down for bow works yea. for pistol it just shoots is continously
idk either haha. thanks for helping though
What if Bastion had a lot more game to it?
As in, each area was larger and more fleshed out?
And also they were more distinct?
it is kind of short as it is, but i think it’s the perfect length for the story it’s trying to tell. any longer may reduce the impact of the story
no pins in the bastion channel?
Hades
/s
the kid don’t have any daddy issues, though. he’s got bigger problems
kid wonders who would “lol” at such a calamity. he ain’t got time for that
i kinda want logan to read that off in rucks voice now
I heard it in my head
my mic is not the best when it comes to recordings so you'll need to turn your volume up... (and you'll need to go to imgur, since discord embeds don't always have audio)
haven't really practiced Ruck's voice before so it's not my best rendition, but hopefully you enjoy
Nice
lmao thank you
But also you know how to make it simultaneously better and worse
Just say lol instead of what it stands for
no homo
yeah
"Aw shucks, it doesn't sound like Rucks."
That criticism is not wrong but it's still positively hilarious thanks so much
And there she is, QUEEN ANNE
Ah, yes. me getting pumped because I hear Brusher Patrol playing
lunkheads are a lot more managable when u have the bellows
just spin in a fire circle
woosh
or just roll to the side :/
i lure them to the edge then push em off with the musket
i use spear + pistols so i just try to have dps :/
There's a kind of swanky neighborhood here in Seattle called Queen Anne, on the hill just north of the Space Needle and the surrounding museums and theaters in Seattle Center
so that boss' name threw me off every time it came up 🤣
QUEEN ANNE a ton of buildings drop on the kid’s head
"I'll never forget the look on the Kid's face after that one."
i didn't realize you could avoid killing queen anne until someone told me
i just was like :( guess that's the way
w h a t
Huh. Well now I feel bad for killing that beast.
yea i mean i kill her for the xp :/
the skyway opens as soon as you take the shard so
Wait how do you avoid it
wait, so you can just g r a b the shard and leave? i thought you had to kill queen anne first
nope
just grab it and leave
like shes there yea
but you dont have to kill her
iirc you have to damage her a little before you're allowed to run
Hah, I didn't know you could just not kill her
I'm hoping to get Queen tonight 🤣
And I think I heard that as well
Cos I did dodge it until I was like wait LUL
We'll see
i just got into bastion
and
i can not get enough of hte Kid falling flat on his face all the time
its such a good thing
and i love that they were like
hey do you want to do damage to things if you fall on them as an option
distant john cena theme music
why do i hear boss music
Ruckus narrating was the best thing in the game ngl
theres not a single sgg game where logan cunningham isnt commenting on my actions
yeah but in Pyre he was a meanie
but he had to watch me mess up everything while all he could do was watch
hey he did cheer on sometimes.
sometimes
Bastion: Old man is tired and loves his grandson
Transistor: Man lovie wuvy you
Pyre: DIE MORTAL SCUM
Boxer and Archjustice are some of my favourite characters
i just like making Archjustice suffer while all he could do was call me stupid
guess what, thats why im down here
in Hades he was like : (narrating in a monotone accent)
boxer is a himbo that loves his gf
all the narrators in an elevator, who lives
||rucks is a war criminal so he wins||
idk if this is a joke or not but i just started the game so if icould ask for toned down spoilers ;w;
my b
current experience
I hope you have fun!
"This edible aint sh-"
REFLECTIONS REMAINING: 18
This is 100% better with Wretched shades music from Hades
Infernal troves music is cool and rushes you to kill everyone

LMAO I got so lost trying to get that shard 😂 dang it Queen Anne. I made it out tho
Accurate
I might give this a ng+ now that i have a controller
i have such a love-hate relationship with how easy it is to just fall in this game
and i am so infinitely grateful its not a big deal
yeah
apart from the dissing from the narrator
the Kid: falling 24/7, both unconscious and literally!
yep!
i always wondered how the kid got flung back on to the map when everyone else supposedly fell to their deaths
rucks saying "ahha he didnt do thattttttt, just kidding haha got you there didn't I"
"No one would be that stupid, am i right?"
mancer's dilemma is one of my favorite tracks ever
or is it pale watchers. can't decide
It's so nice
the Kid might need to see a doctor for all the amount of times he's blacked out
Ikr
I stopped at a certain point 4 now,but I'm glad to be further on in the story
It's a wonderful game.
The kid deserve the world I say <3
nice of the gasfellas to wait till he gets up before they start beating the kid up again
Cant kick a kid while hes down
intentionally falling to deal damage is a legit strat?
it can sometimes also put you in a more sstrategic position
oof
a lot of the bullhead trial is just getting used to timings
all the enemies have pretty projected startup that can be used to your advantage and the perfect block is pretty generous
squirts and scumbags i would say are the most difficult because smol and scumbags leave the dumb goop
Playing bastion for the first time can’t wait to see what’s in store!
hell yeah! hope you enjoy 😄
I think I will! I’ve been listening to the soundtrack for awhile now and setting sail coming home was the first song that introduced me to supergiant games but finally decided today was the day I actually played it
If I finish the story mode in Bastion, do I need to do a specific mode next to reach achievements
As in Normal mode etc, I'm a bit confused
The only other mode of the game that gets unlocked after you complete the story the first time is new game +
The game itself doesn’t necessarily get harder or anything like that
You just kinda complete it again, though there is a bonus thing that gets unlocked towards the end
(spoilers for end game & new game+)
hey so i have some questions abt the game & new game+ & a theory
||so there's the theory the Kid is rucks, which has some weight to it, but i was wondering how that works w new game+ since there's a lot of parts about rucks semi-remembering the game already happening, but if he's the Kid, wouldn't he have already remembered the game already? idk how time traveling works honestly||
||I don't think there's any weight to that. Unless the Kid gets thrown back in time unreasonably far on a particular reset, how does he grow up into Rucks?||
||yeaaa since the kid worked on the walls for a majority of his life and during that time the calamity was being readied along with the bastion, it just wouldnt work i dont think :/||
||i will say that if rucks was the Kid being sent back pre-war would make the most sense bc that's when the Ura/Cael conflict really ramps up, and that's when things would need to be worked on. just going back like pre-calamity wouldn't really work bc there's already that high tension built in||
||my headcannon is that rucks is just a guy, the kid is just the kid, and thats that. rucks contributed to the calamity and everyone was affected, the kid is just the one who helped "fix" it||
||yeah, every canon that involves time travel seems to get at least one "what if Character A is really Character B sent back in time to age-loop into the present and interact with their younger self" theory||
||but it doesn't hold water for me with Bastion because Rucks harbors a massive amount of regret about causing the Calamity and all that suffering?||
||so I can't think of a sensible reason why he would have lived through it in his twenties, seen firsthand how bad it was, then sent himself back in time, aged a few decades, and then...set the freaking Calamity off anyway...? and proceed to sit around talking grimly about what a mistake it was||
||it just doesn't wash. can't see it.||
||Yeah that’s all fair points! Tho, I gotta ask — what do y’all think about the Rucks being the Kid’s dad theory?||
||that was my first theory for the game actually. after his part about the Kid’s dad running out it i was just waiting the rest of the game for him to say he was the Kid’s dad||
Ok so I found Zia and when I heard her song I teared up, Ashley out here making me cry again
This is one of the moments that I will never forget. Still have shivers thinking about the first time I heard the song and met her... Even though I first played Bastion like 5-6 years ago I think?
it's Such a good scene
@delicate plank Something important to remember about that, ||the characters don't remember what happens when you select Restoration. It's implied/outright stated that the lack of future memories makes it so none of Rucks, Zulf, Zia, or the Kid are capable of avoiding the firing of the Calamity.||
||Hmm. That said, it's not really time travel, persay, is it? Nobody is displaced from their normal position within the timeline - it just erases the most recent chunk of it, resetting it to allow them to try again.||
||And fail again. 😭||
||That being said, it also should negate the possibility of the Kid being Rucks.||
Hey guys, am i imagining it or does rucks at some point say "the weight of the world"? And when does he?
Heart of the world ?
||I think it's when he goes to the cauldrons||
@hollow pilot
bullhead court is driving me mad
Mood
That trial was annoying af
Especially that massive scumbag
ahh thank you mate! I can just really clearly in my head hear rucks saying that line for some reason lol
the only other time its said is in the lyrics of "its in the blood"
Lol
congrats on finishing the game! ||what ending did you choose?||
||didn't think much at the time, picked restoration which I kinda regret, because people.. They will repeat the same mistakes all over again and once again trigger the calamity||
ok but like ||did you leave or take zulf with you||
||take, I dont have the heart to leave him there||
||you made the good and correct choice||
everybody always makes a big deal about (Pyre spoilers) ||Rukey's mustache|| and I for one will never judge anyone over that one, but if you ||left Zulf behind???||, I cannot help side-eyeing you 😭
||I just went back afterwards and left him behind to see what would happen, and I was like, Oh. It's kind of easier if you bring him with you, plus your conscience is sated, so... ||
||yea i mean saving him doesnt do anything besides a slight change to the ending picture and a couple lines of dialogue plus what happens to him in the credits pictures. leaving him i feel like has much less of an impact on that final stretch of the terminals||
||the option to leave zulf always felt strange to me, because it seemed more like a what the player wants sort of choice vs what fits with the game. the game is a lot about making things right and so leaving Zulf behind just doesn't really fit for me game-wise||
||i feel like at about that point in the story it changes from doing what needs to be done to doing what you want. Zulf betrayed everyone and almost destroyed the bastion. nothing is left of the world especially after the tazal mission and the calamity so its not what needs to be done anymore. its what you want to do in this broken world. the choice to bring zulf back as much as going back or not with the bastion is your choice, the kids choice, not what appears as best||
||so in a way it not only allows player choice but changes a bit of the theme nicely that felt right to me at least||
||oh that's a rant interesting way of looking at it, it makes a lot of sense||
game design for themes and story is very cool and important for a good story and i think bastion did an amazing job with it
solid use of gameplay to tell story
||and like that last stretch if you take zulf just hits different||
||it really does... the Kid’s been beat down this whole game and it's just absolutely at his end... he's worked so hard and so tirelessly and he's just running out of himself to go on... and he risks everything just to save Zulf, a traitor, knowing he could die, and almost dying as he goes but never once stopping or letting go of Zulf to defend himself... oh it just Kills me every time||
||ohh and with mother im here playing in the background||
its just a perfect scene tbh
all through playing bastion for the first time i was just enamored with it but once i hit the ending that really clinched it for being my all time favorite game
||oh wait now that i think about it with a song name of "mother im here" and its with the kid risking his life and all and his mother is dead so like is that song more about the kid just in a scene with zulf?||
or am i just overthinking things
since like, ||it keeps saying "im here, im coming home" and like the entire reason for the kid doing this was to go back||
||as well as showing that this could kill him||
||both are very possible. i think the mother in the song is Micia butbut it cutoff also like, count as his own dead mother. and then there's the past about the star, which could refer to the city crest||
god its such a well designed scene
it really is!! sgg just knocked it out of the park with that one
ooo gotta love it when spotify plays ||mother im here|| for you after putting a large playlist on shuffle
knows exactly what i want
it's such a good song but i have to be like. emotionally ready for it. if it comes on on shuffle while im in the shower it's like. oh i am not prepared
its become one of those songs that just make me happy since i played bastion when i was around 7 years old so i just get a lot of nostalgia
its such a good song thematically and just as a song
darren did an amazing job with it, much like he does with all of their games
darren really did do an excellent job with the music in the game, it just really pumps up the atmosphere of the world and the experience itself
but oof... you're making me feel old. i first played when i was 22
but actually i think im gonna replay bastion, it's been too long
Ikr?
Ikr? (2)
Ikr? (3)
My issue in going back in and seeing the other choices is that ||I can't see myself abandoning Zulf for the life of me||
agreed, that's the one thing i won't do. ||i've heard it doesn't really change the story either||
Since even if my health bar was gone it told me to heal up a few times
you use your potions automatically when you reach 0 health, if you have any
.
Well i wish i knew that
I play through the game thinking if i die with potions left its still game over
i might be wrong? though i know it happens ||at the end||. for most of the game, i made sure to drink a potion before reaching 0
I really liked the way Rucks' ||"It's heavy, isn't it?" worked both for the story he was telling Zia, and as a reaction to the Ram the Kid had just picked up||
||As a whole that finale was great||
i was so emotionally strung the whole way through. ||to the point where when i got to The First Choice, i got up and left for a moment||
I was like Oh Dear
Helped that I immediately knew what ||both my choices would be||
||had to think a bit about the second one! For the first one, there was no choice for me||
||I remember when Rucks was talking about the Restoration and I was like No. That can't be how it ends. There HAS to be another way. And there was||
||it's pretty powerful: you hear about Restoration while fighting through dozens of Ura and all you can think is "it's all going to happen again"||
||EXACTLY||
||Who's going to stop it? No one will be themselves as we know them, theres no memories of the calamity, its just trapping it in a time loop||
no lol
||what if our time playing isnt the first time this story has happened?||
||HOW MANY LOOPS||
||"i'll see you in the next one"||
So the ||low hp effects were just for the dramatics damn it||
yeaaa
but it was dramatic
Supergiant sure likes their ||loops in bastion AND transistor||
and imo one of the best written scenes ever
I also like how fainting is used for story purposes in both bastion (who knows where) and pyre (the tutorial)
Main characters with very low blood pressure
Someone help them
to be fair, at the beginning of pyre you were just rescued from death
I think it wasnt that in Pyre cause everyone else fainted too
I just hope Jodi didn't fall on anyone
Thats a broken bone or two of damage
The Kid is confirmed a squid, if he eats too fast he loses conciousness
is that a problem with squids?? the more you know...
Yup! Has to do with the shape of their brain iirc
Man also how long is Bastion?
It felt super short
Though maybe I was just having fun
it's a pretty short game. 5 or 6 hours, give or take?
transistor could be a bit longer, depending on how much you explore and whether you do the challenges
yeah for the ending ||i went evac the first time. resto doesn't really seem viable--how far back would it go? it's not a simple thing of just going back to right before the calamity happened; you'd have to back to before the Calamity was even an idea. there'd have to be a LOT of relationship fixing between the Ura and the Caels, and the feud runs deep||
||also everyone reverts to their original state, so what's stopping the history from repeating?||
||isn't it implied that it all happens again? the last line of restoration is the same as the first line of ng+||
OH
||Is it??? I wouldn't know, I only just finished Bastion for the first time and I chose the other choice||
wait omg I'm sorry I didn't mean to spoil that
||i mean that also has some really neat theme tie ins 🤔 ||
since like, ||whats done is done, and all you can do is move on and learn||
damn i absolutely love the themes in bastion
Ngl that message came when I needed it the most
And I think thats why I chose that ending, or well one of the reasons
||yeah, I chose evac on my first playthrough, too||
||but I like the idea that the plot may have looped several times, even before we pick it up||
I wrote fic once that played with that idea, by having an awful thing happen (that I was afraid might happen the first time I played the game, and fortunately didn't) and implying that the Kid ||chooses restoration that time, just to undo it and hope things go better on the next iteration||
||in ng+ there's lines where rucks mentions feeling like he's repeating himself and that he's already said what he said and stuff, which implies if you choose resto everything ends up the same||
||all stories start at the beginning, but this one is a little different didnt mean much to me at first but after resto boy did that line hit hard||
If I'm remembering correctly, the ending/credits montage from Restoration is set to decidedly sadder music than "Setting Sail, Coming Home" and is extremely heavily implied, almost to the point of outright stating, to simply repeat the events of the game.
It's like rewinding a movie.
||Boromir still dies, Hiccup still loses a leg, Buu still reverts to his Pure/Kid form.||
||The thing is, the fact that Rucks is experiencing a sense of deja vu at all means the process isn't perfect. Some things are retained, some trace memory lingers. Maybe if only for those who were on the Bastion, but still, something remains. My own headcannon is that it's like that episode of TNG (uh spoilers for a 30 year old TV show) "Cause and Effect," where they get stuck in a few loops, but enough traces linger for them to eventually choose 'escape' and get out of it||
Tng?
I believe it's Star Trek: The New Generation
*next. yes
yeah

ok can we all agree that like once the violin starts on like 5:27 on the songs of supergiant remember the bastion just hit hard
like
damn it just hits hard
You right tho!! They didn't need to go that hard but the did and honestly I got HIT by it
The first time I heard that, my face split into the most unreasonable grin 😁
It is the orchestral equivalent of dropping the bass as hard as possible and I love it
appreciation post for In Case of Trouble, since it's on the shuffle now. First SGG theme I heard and it drew me in to the game.
I just love this game. I've had it for a long time in my library but never played it. I'm going for all the achievements, but the 1.000.000 point in attack mode is kinda hard lol
Mortar club where you at
mortars and bellows are the best combination
pike and musket gang: speed + range
Musket and machete gang
Big pew and slaslaslaslaslash
(I don't actually remember for sure if that's what I used but it sounds right)
finally someone gets me
explosions and fire what more could you want
