How do you guys find Thanatos scythe? Just tried it for the first time. Seemed fun, but I find it hard to consistently keep from getting hit, so I find that I can’t really take advantage of the full effect. Massive skill issue I guess haha

All Together + Extended Family build:

1.You use vow of denial and go to the surface
2.You get the Legendary rolling the doors of Ephyra while also trying to get Extended family (you dont have to get it in Ephyra just try to meet the conditions even if you exhaust the pool with the bow)
3.You get your olympians god pool ready and , if possible banish their infusion boons in the process.
4.Even if you have exhausted the Hera pool and get coins pick her until you get the Legendary.
5. Before the final boss you are lickely to get 2 hera boons and since youve picked wealth boons you have high chance to buy the legendary, All together gives you infusions from gods outside the god pool so you can get more olympians than the ones youd usually get, hasty retreat from hermes is also a consideration.(ive managed to get extended family to 90%)
6. You can use this with any weapon on the surface, even if you dont activate the infusions you will get more boons and olympians and your dmg and resistances will be high for the final boss.

I don’t necessarily agree with that I think it’s cool how Ephyra front loads you and then thessaly and Olympus are very challenging, it makes you think about how to use your resources to complete an ideal build early and then test it.

Thessaly could probably do with door options (it really sucks that you HAVE to take a Family Dispute) but other than that I like it

the problem is that thessaly tends to have few boon rewards sometimes, it's unfortunate but sometimes the biome ends before giving your keepsake a chance to do its work

(maybe hope they improve the chances in a future update)

it happens, often the keepsake works perfectly fine, but we remember the duds for how frustrating they can be.

btw keepsakes (currently) don't affect which god gets offered in shops, only for door rewards (if you'd have found a miniboss door then 100% the keepsake would've given you demeter)

Dang i just finished watching Mynts speedrun for max fear surface. that typhon fight was crazy. I'm still getting up to speed on a lot of the new builds since i took a break from the game for a bit im suprised to see axe getting so much use when last i remember pan daggers went nuts. Does anyone know if axe is being used for just straight up area coverage on higher fear? I feel like black coat could be really good due to its shield and but i've yet to beat 32 fear with any aspect all of which are below max.

It's asymptotic. Diminishing returns and no matter how much you'll build up enemies will always have a chance to hit.

the weird part is what's different between the 3hit dash strike of the coat and the 5hit blades hit? if it worked on one then it should on the other and vice versa. or at least work partially on the blades hit not just one proc per the whole thing. if it was time based then it wouldnt work on both, if it was strike based then it should work on both

For some, Hera-Zeus-Dem-Heph are the best core, for some they're good cores with better options, just the ones above are more "I'd rather swap 1 or 2 of these out"

The boss fights are usually known quantities you can practice for, while mob rooms are RNG, and the game can just give you the most turbo cancer Fangs combo that you wish you had Hitch to dispatch

don't need Hitch if you're playing lower fear for sure though, but Hitch gets exponentially stronger the higher fear you go

flat damage like hestia works good on attack, or do like hera or something if you get final slice as hammer for aoe clear, something the base daggers struggle with. flash fry from hestia is good for this too, engagement ring also helps daggers a lot. weave specials in on enemies you want to approach or interrupt to hitstun them. blades single target dps is pretty good, if you get hestia attack get demeter on special or cast for freezer burn

Can I ask where the most time-intensive areas are on the surface?
I was running 20 minute timer, ended ephyra with about 2 minutes on the clock, thessaly with about 2 minutes on the clock, olympus with seconds on the clock, and then summit with 1 minute on the clock

im used to the first biome taking the longest when running underworld and then building time afterwards, so when I finished ephyra I was feeling really good
but then thessaly took me the full 5 minutes to clear and I started getting worried, and when I was losing time in olympus I got real scared and just started face-tanking bosses/minibosses to deal more damage

im wondering if those regions just naturally take a long time to do or if it was because my build was poopy or something

I find that a huge number of problem enemies in olympus are ranged and keep their distance so im hitting one guy and the others are just somewhere else on the screen so I cant hit them at the same time
combined with the fact that I have to pick up spooky ghosts and I end up running all over the map

if all else fails you can click rapture ring and force them to group, otherwise its just angles and kiting through cast to group up

i guess part of the issue I was having was I was playing eos and it felt like sometimes my daybreaker would just chase one enemy randomly in the corner of the map instead of any groups of enemies that might be around

look to go after the range enemies first, and naturally all the melee enemies will come towards you and the other ranged enemies will herd together as they try to get in range. Thats when they all start to clump up. When you kill enemies, try to kill them in a way where the ghost flies towards the direction of other enemies. The revenant will always fly away from you

also having a specific build - a duo, strong boon combo, or otherwise is really helpful to have in mind on the surface, that can help lock in your damage too

I tried 50 F surface with persephone. Got Twisting Crash with epic Aphro special and Zeus cast. It does like 1/4 of the dps you get from Possessed Array + Born Gain, and requires more setup at that. Died in Thessaly to the timer. I simply do not see how anything other than possessed is a viable build on Persephone skull. You can't even do the fetching shenanigans like you can with mel bc the power is terrible.

The fact that enemies can't take damage from more than one omega special projectile at a time renders it useless for high fear.

Aphro/Hera/Apollo on attack for the most part, with Demeter for Cast. If you want to run Omega Attacks, Demeter has Weed Killer to boost your damage heavily. Glamour Gain is usually enough for Omega Attacks on Axe, and it comes with a Weak Aura for enemies in your attack range.

Aphro for raw damage, Apollo for better range, Hera for 1/2 of Origination and the ability to destroy mob rooms quicker

I'm not sure about the special or casts there is hera for hitch on the special and/or cast but there's many strong options. I was also wondering how Ares slots in nowadays? My keepsake order is just Moon Beam, Athena, Situational Third (Droplet maybe), then I run Antler/Knucklebones whatever else vs the final boss, Antler might be too risky, but Blackened Fleece might work out for you if you're using Omegas.

On Selene, you want to upgrade for the violet, Prism, if it's there. With a priority on Brilliance nodes since +1 strike means an extended duration.

Boons you'd want from Ares are mostly one Vicious boon on either Attack or Special, preferably Special, then compound it with Grievous Blow. If you have Ares, you'll want to find Poseidon for Wave Strike so you're eligible for the Duo, Arterial Spray.

On playing the actual aspect, Hera and Hestia have boons that help you charge Hex faster; Fine Line and Controller Burn. They increase the cost of your Omega Special, helping the cooldown tick faster on Hex.

Zeus slots in well into Special + Static Shock if no Ares, you can also run him on Attack instead if you have Aphrodite on Dash/Gain since the Duo is pretty great

If you're doing the fine line + righteous pike build, you should have hera gain, so equip hera and get her gain. If that's locked, ares', zeus', or hephaestus' gains are decent.

The easiest thing is probably get Poseidon attack and focus on dash-strikes. With Exhaust Riser it hits 6x for silly damage. Add Zeus for blitz or static Shock and you’re cruising.

I also cleared 32 fear surface on all aspect and trying to grind to 50 fear clears. The gap is very big between 32 and 50. In 32 runs you can depends on health stacking and having a massive health pool that you can heal with Hermes shrines and fountains and just tank hits from mobs. Once you get into 40s with pain and scars, that strategy is kinda dead, you cannot do that. You have to know how each enemy hit and you have to dodge.

Heph also becomes a tier SSSSS god. Trusty shield is an insane source of pseudo healing and mint condition allows to apply aggro to get room clears faster and push the timer. I am not gonna say he is mandatory because mynt probably has a run without heph but for progression he is almost a necessity. Demeter is close second for arctic ring, snow queen and plentiful forage. But these are supplements and you have to have the core of the build (attack/spex/gain boons) ready before you leave ephyra because once you leave you are not seeing boons that frequently again in the run.

Last thing is get ready for rerolls, because if you don’t get a good god rng in ephyra or your damage sucks by the cyclop it is just better and faster to end the run and start over.

That has been my experience so far. I got my first 40 fear surface clear today and trying to go 45 now.

If you don't know how to fight fast yet relatively safe with an aspect, you are losing to the Thessaly timer or dying 100% of the time.

Boons and builds are secondary, because they're just knowledge. The mechanics and specific optimal attack patterns vary hugely from aspect to aspect, and they change depending on the build as well. You need to be able to incorporate as much damage from every possible source as optimally as possible. Otherwise, again, you're dying to the Thessaly timer.
