Is there a proper explanation of how the Gifts of Night work anywhere? Like, how high does fear have to be, what is the chance of which thing appearing if it is high enough, can I miss it if I pick the wrong room, that kind of thing?

the gifts of the night require you to beat the underworld and the surface on a certain fear level, the game tells you in the testament

you get the gift once both the underworld and surface have been beaten on the required levels, then it changes to what the next one needs

Cause yeah jpom is stronger but the strongest builds in the game can already basically one-shot everything without Pom levels

So getting more runs in is just more effective than fighting even more RNG

If EVERY skull run starts with Hera then you never have to reset until you get Hera

Jpom props up the weaker weapons but skull is just so absurdly strong that it still beats almost every other weapon without using Jpom

Fighting for p-array is the most RNG you should be willing to suffer through

No p-array region 1 or 2? Reset unless your RNG otherwise was really good

Athena spawn rate SUCKS

Finished the entire game and still haven't finished the arachne side quest because athena wont come over and talk to me, haven't unlocked her bond because again she wont talk to me, even saw the fates and after all that she spawns and talks about how the fates are found. girl at least acknowledge the death of Typhon 🤦‍♂️, just unlock the damn bond or progress arachne we can talk about the fates later

Every time I go to see him, I equip him with me, but as soon as I see he doesn't give me the prophecy, or as soon as I finish a region, I change my memory because after that, there's no more dialogue, even when I go back to see him.

It feels like every time I think "oh, this is going well!" feeling hopeful without being genuinely confident things just immediately crash hard

Earlier i died to rivals scylla and on the last face... she had so little hp left...

The whole run was kind of cursed though despite my reaching Scylla with full DDs lol (one of those was from Life Savings). I took a special-damage chaos boon while having too little magic thanks to Hubris and no magic pickups for all of Erebus and had to do a sizable chunk of Erebus with almost entirely regular attacks (on Torches!)

Like, it makes me realize how much I dislike the base Black Coat kit in general (and thinking about it how much less I like the H2 weapons than the H1 weapons broadly) and how hard it is to use essentially Boonless if start with Moonbeam.

Demeter just covers half the damn room and if a revenant falls in there well 🤷‍♂️ guess you just have to let that guy revive

Hephaestus does crazy damage and is near instantaneous after it’s placed on top of you so if you accidentally dodged early well you just die

But if you’re really trying to get a build going the extra boon is great

Finished Hades II, up to the credits. Gameplay and art were EVEN better than Hades I which is crazy considering how good the first one was. I do think the story, specifically the characters themselves, were better in the first one though. Still, phenomenal game and loved every minute of it! Great job to the entire Supergiant Games team!

I mean a lot of high fear and speed players just don’t like the surface because of how it’s designed and I don’t entirely blame them

There’s a lot less randomness or BS encounters on underworld unless you get scammed out of a story encounter or something

When I asked some high fear people if they’d make a “ranking enemies in the game for BS” tier list they said “they’d all just be surface enemies”

For me the main things are:

• you can roll Charybdis on the Surface and Charybdis suuuuucks
• even if you ignore Charybdis, Thessaly RNG can screw you over with extra encounters and with Heracles extending encounters that don't even give you a reward
• Olympus is long compared to Fields, and doesn't have not-quite-guaranteed-but-fairly-probable "this route will be shorter" choices
• Olympus bots suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

They can go through your cast

They teleport. They can hide in corners

It’s why I love Hestia godsent so much

It forces them to aggro

Same for rousing reception if you get multi-wave

Though rousing can screw you in fields since it can hit EVERYTHING

Including every single blood shade on the map

Denial is a lot more of an issue on surface due to the sheer number of boons you get

Ephyra is a god buffet, Thessaly you usually get like 6+ rewards, Olympus (almost) always has 2 rewards to choose from, and you get two rewards on summit before the end shop

So you get way more stuff on surface to where you basically denial all your god pool before reaching Typhon

Not to mention that the Godsent is still affected by the Heartthrob cap, unlike Hestia Godsent

You have to take three Path of Stars rewards (or burn your Keepsake slot on Moon Beam) to make it possibly tolerable

Meanwhile, for the same investment, Wolf Howl is letting you dualcast it and giving you a free hit of temp armor coming off of your invuln

And, most importantly, doesn't overwrite your moveset

Plus like most hexes it is kinda a support thing too (isn't the attack one one of the close blue buffs not a purple?)

I don’t hate ares for speed due to damage potential and plasma but I can’t argue against that his utility goes way down as fear goes up

I do like the added one-shot potential of wounds in some cases and plasma and grievous blow both have some nutty damage potential, but he definitely needs to be carried by another god

Also the game refuses to ever let me have heinous affront because the moment I get the third boon both gods just instantly disappear

Special is 80 base, super easy to get a 100% scaling hera special so 160, dual moonshot makes it 320, a jpom blitz attack makes it like ~500 before even counting orig, furies, huntress

All from 2 buttons mind you, a dash attack and a tap special

Then add on like shimmering moonshot, hereditary bane, and other big modifier things(and antler r4) and you just melt things with zero effort
