if you look at something you made and feel like there's issues with it, try to pinpoint what it is exactly. it comes down to a lotta close observation, comparison, and studying what others do

references are so important, I literally try to pull up references for everything I draw, for various aspects too, not just objects or whatnot

say there's a kinda pose I want to try, I'll look for similar ones to see how others do composition, angles, etc

if I wanna draw something that's during a specific kind of weather, or time of day, I'll just look for images that have that and pay attention to whatever colors are being used

with regards to backgrounds, if you're still doing a character piece then your goal is to draw as simple and little of it as you can while still maintaining a semblance of some scenery I think. typically the lighting and blending of colors is something to pay attention to

and the general density of details is another thing to look out for, not every aspect of the background is going to be equally detailed otherwise it might look cluttered

I feel it's accurate to say my drawings improve proportional to the quality of the references I'm able to find

over time as you study more stuff you'll be able to remember these things, and apply them faster or on your own. but that takes time

it just comes down to really looking at art, trying to understand why the other artists do things the way they do it. don't try to match the exact brush strokes, try to understand why they made them to begin with

I've been practicing mainly by finding random poses from cosplays and sketching/sometimes coloring it. I'm still really weak with faces and coloring, takes me a lot of trial and error to get something not completely awful

i do not know how to comfort people nor do i know how to give advice but what i do when i feel like that is i just tell myself to be patience and keep focusing on my own work while allow myself to still comparing to them because thats probably normal habit for any artist

in csp if you hold ctrl and shift and click on a pixel it'll bring you to the layer, it's a handy trick I use to help navigate around and make sure I'm not working on the wrong ones. idk if you already knew that

I'd highly recommend CSP, it grew to become a fantastic software over the last couple years.

Otherwise if you're only interested in basic art on a budget, SAI might be a better choice.

It's not worth to buy lower packages of CSP aside from EX atm.
