A psychotic state is overall better for this as they slowly slip into this deranged-paranoid mental state. You could rewrite the virus to be a pshycotic compound which does erode or corrupts wisedom cubes. And that the higher-up Sirens aren’t present because of this. Then it feels more like a closed isolated world with only the shipgirls and infected human and pawns or their non-infected counter parts.

In the first stage there are several medications against a psychosis which keep the girls sane but still near the borderline. The cube corrosion kicks in regardless of the progession of the psychosis. There is a siren compound against the cube corrosion but it isn’t a full restore and there will be a little cube corrosion invision it like little necrosis marks.
In the second stage we are at 2/3 of the transformation/cube corrosion from this stage there is a 70% coin toss with the siren compound the psychosis is now less or gone due to the cognitive decline caused by the cube corrosion. If you lose the 70% coin toss the corrosion wil slow down.
Stage 3 is like the last half of the face that hasn’t been transformed and the regretfully tears. However the siren compound still might be effective 10% chance for the “real” ships and a 13% chance for the ships that didn’t exist/blueprint ships. The chance difference lies in the fact that these ships are closer to the sirens.
Stage 4 full transformation for a while there is a bit of sentience and it’s just mindless zombie.

If the virus isn’t psychrofiel you will have that people will become infected by having the virus on their hands while preparing food etc. But it can survive long enough if it gets in one of the arteries. So bites and open wounds are killers. Oh and for reference when someone gets bitten it’s not one or three micro-organisms. No it’s a fully grown petridish. Oh and here’s one thing to take into account after several months some of the first infected will die because of over pollution of micro-organisms. The germs die because of their own rubbish or excrements. There exists some bacteria that produce alcohol as a excrement

No it’s a better idea to make it like the sirens have this branch as a test bed for this compound but abandon it as an option and leave the branch intact for academic reasons and “drop” a suit case containing the schematics for the cure in “retreat”.

I present the fantastic phenomenon of cube corruption. They get infected faster when they use their riggings and can carry the virus around because the riggings will be around 3 or 1 degree Celsius. And in turn get infected because their body temperature is lower because they “run” on their wisdom cubes.

Earlier AL ships also have more shiplike rigging.
That said, there's usually very little resemblance to the real vessel. It's lots of joints and random plates. The practical attitude of mine has trouble following that.
And if I wanna take a more modern approach the rigging gets more fantastical, but I have a hard time finding a Dutch theme.

What KC does better than AL is the tech aspects of rigging and Abyssals. I really dislike the applied phlebotinum in the form of cubes and "infinite energy" AL likes to throw at everything. I really, really do.
It incredibly diminishes the character struggle when you know kansen are basically a naval equivalent of mahou shoujo, capable of summoning BFGs with infinite ammo out of thin air, aren't susceptible to "damage" like any other matter - be it animate or inanimate - is and seem to be capable of acting on days to no end without a break.

depending on how long you draw everything except the face composition looks fine
hair doesn't look like a solid block of something, the body proportions look fine too
