....
But, if I am forced to pick
yeah
I rather under screen than punch hole
plz under screen IMO
IMO punch hole seemed like... wtf
I dunno if gamers would like to see their phone screen have some punch holes or not
Considering most, if not all phones have "hole punch" / "punch hole" front camera, you tend to get used to it and start ignoring it
Unless you have trypophobia or OCD
yeah
why punch hole seemed good in your PoV?
because theres always that one kid named Kyle
Smaller footprint for the same function
Unsure what there isn't to like Vs a notch
Hmmm... efficiency eh
It's more efficient, lol. Less estate taken
explains the whole trend
Well OFC
Also, if I ain't recommended to buy ROG Phone 6(Even it is the one that fulfils my phone wishlist(No Notch/Punch hole/Just your standard bezel)) and... I don't want(Will Never Want, and will do my best to resist) iPhone(That 90% of the money ran into si called aReNDeh and apple logo and so called Security)
Then what is on your mind for other reccomendation
ROG Phone 6 suffers the same issue as ROG Phone 5
Snaps in half
Also ASUS doesn't update their phones at all
hmmm.... Snaps in half?
Also... Can you recommend my any other brand that is not Apple?
what about a Linux phone?
Still, Linux phones could be just as popular, just need more advertising and the phones need better specifications (more then 6GB of RAM and 16GB of Storage)
It's specs are nearly spot-on for it's price point, and neither are they hugely relevant
Samsung
HUAWEI (eh)
Oppo
OnePlus
Xiaomi
Google
There's also Motorola and even Nokia too
App compatibility is the main problem
and tbh Android is a modified Linux kernel anyway
Thanks I guess
Your Recommendations is Apple? Tell me why then...
Thanks, bro
Nothing is fine for midship
Oneplus software support is getting worse by the year
Moto's ain't spectacular, either. Yer lucky to get 2 version updates.
What is the one that you don't think it is mid?
Not Oppo either
Oppo is just the sister brand of OnePlus except more stuck with the stupid Color OS
I wonder how much current that poor resistor had
They screwed the pooch by switching to ColorOS
My 8 Pro had a lot of glitches where the display would freak out and wouldn't accept any input, more than once
So yeah, I've said no to OnePlus
So I'm personally staying on Samsung or iPhone, done with experimenting with other brands
They didn't switch to ColorOS. They tried to merge ColorOS into Oxygen OS.
Oppo is ColorOS lol.
Oh yeah, I think I got that backwards honestly
But yeah, my point being that I'm done with OP
Same.
Gems mixed in with crap
OnePlus Nord 1 is the goat
don't tell me that 99% of you guys will actually suggest an apple If I don't say anything but them
Yes, I too would go with Apple, because I certainly don't feel like ever buying an ROG, Red Magic (literal who in my eyes) or something off-brand
as expected
Quite indeed
Are apple phones cost effective and have good spec to price ratio tho?
I think Android are more cost effective and have better spec to price ratio
but again, do enlighten me
I'm just saying what I would go for still, despite the last time I've used an iPhone, was back in 2014 to 2016, iPhone 6
However, I might get an iPhone again in future, don't have to buy it on launch, can buy it later on when the price drops
Ironically though, that same iPhone 6 is on iOS 12.5, cannot go higher than that, and even with 1GB of RAM, it can still do stuff
Hmmm.... oh okay tho, thanks for the info....
that might be put into the consideration for the next phone of mine, if... somehow I get lucky with money
I'd honestly get an iPhone. iOS is pretty shit for my use but it's really optimized and easy to use. I'd prefer if I can install Android on it.
I'd also wait till the USB C phones are out.
Might put this opinion to the consideration of the next phone of mine then... If you said Iphone was easy to use
iphone is a great phone, although it is more expsnvie
androids aren't more cost effective, since the caveats are mostly in the camera and software
i thought of redmagic, until i saw how shit their cameras were
It's not a camera phone, it's a gaming phone. lol
If you wanted a camera phone, get a Pixel 7 Pro
I like this feaure on Samsung phones and tablets. (Minimum requirements
OS: Android 12
UI: One UI 4.0 )
ram swap?
yeah ram swap
it's an eh feature, considering many phones have like 8-16gb ram now
shocking a phone has more ram than my computer
Most decent laptops have 8gb ram
i was refering to Plans post
whos plans
like if he says that most decent laptops have 8 then there are still laptops below 8
oH
uh
the one you were talking to?

yes 💀
Have not seen any laptops below 8gb in a while
cuz there won't be any
mm that's why i was confused, cause i didn't see any either
If yo laptop has less than 8gbs of ram you need a new laptop
my bad
my primary laptop is a m2 macbook air
my primary laptop is a 16gb gen 11 i7 Inspiron 15
I have two other ones where they are both 1TB storages with i5 gen 9
woah
8gb though
My laptops are the Library of Alexandria for memes

also lot of anime stashes
ah

i stashed 500gb of anime minis
so it's like 100-150 anime seasons
wait no, it's like 50-100
I have about 570 gbs of anime drawings
i'm using ffmpeg, and uh, i'm getting 13 fps from x264 to x265 lossless
Last i checked
it's so stupid annoyin
im planning to build a PC
lg tv's are so pitiful
i fucking hate dlna
why do i need an extention on this nas to play dlna
why can't it just use smb
some chromebooks and netbooks
and they are so fucking sluggish even with an SSD
some use eMMC
Hmmmm... Camera and software eh...
does anyone use this here?
I don't own a M1 macbook.
And I ain't paying over 4 grand for it where I live
4 grand?
it was li ke 1100 here with 3 year applecare
I'm in one of the countries in Europe, not US fam
i'm not in the US fam
And yes, just checked, if I convert local currency to USD, it's roughly 2 grand
It was more than that the other day so it looks like it dropped off
so it isn't the 4 grand you're saying
I'm saying the price has dropped off
it shouldn't
Well here it does
can u send ss
Why would I?
nvm
it's fine
You don't understand the language and I don't feel like showing it honestly
language?
And it's not "trust me bro" as well, I know how well the Apple stuff is expensive here
Yes, language. There are languages besides English
you're speaking english right now though
That's not my point
lmfao what

this is sick
Let me try to simplify it: I'm not sharing the websites because you don't understand the language that my country uses, which is not English
Better?
you sound less selfish taht way
yeah
ty
Selfish?
idk the word
but nvm that
what model of macbooka re we compring to?
cuz the 4 grand is pretty high
M2 MacBook Pro
I'll buy one from the IT auction at work when they sell it.

Not gonna go out of my way to get an M1 macbook
i think you're talking base model
No, I know what I'm talking
i have the m2 air
And I know they just got a bunch of new ones lmao
les goooooo
So I'm looking at 13" M2 MacBook Pro, which is $2380 (converted from local currency to USD)
It was almost 4k when it got imported here, and the price has slowly started dropping off, and I'm talking new
what
it's so much more expensive when i bought the laptop
it's 1120 usd
Again, different countries, different prices
we're using USD as a baseline
both of us aren't in usa
let's both use USD?
that's a lot of money
I'm also in the country where a Z Flip 4 (8GB RAM / 256GB storage) launched for $1170 when it came out, and now you can easily find it for $700 new
list currency pls
don't be an ass
I'm not sharing it
convert it to USD
so i can understand it
That was USD above
well then LABEL IT
?? I mean using the $ symbol isn't enough?
there's cad and usd
You went over your own statement there
So I figured I don't have to address it any more?
alr then
my bad
it's still 800 here
the z flip 4
mind you, that's the 8/128 model
hmmm... understandable
and I forgot to extend the words.... of that cameras and softwares...
I was meant, "okay then, it is understandable..."
ah
all good
I mean, while I don't need such fancy things as cameras and softwares since I ain't your average instagram/tiktok opener guy and more to a gamer side of things... but I do understand such people who love to take selfies/make a short video about little things/food photography does exists
hence, kinda understandable when someone recommending an iPhone for that
yeah
it’s like a snap and go type thing
wish they supported raw tho
i really want to edit the photos the produce
Techd
?
Why so many apple
Also that unsafe
Work health safety
Kids get Macbooks and iPads.
Staff get a choice between a Thinkpad or Macbook.
It's just simple to use
Ahh I see
there's still a good amount of freedom in macbooks
this dude thinks nobody plays in 1080p at all, despite it still being one of the most popular resolutions along with 1366x768
Thankfully I have this list that provides further proof why people still use 1080p
This my life right now
Data transfer 12tb > 24tb drive
Using Heat Resistant Tape
Worry about stacking drive cause of vibration
Shunk the two 12tb 7200rpm $299 WD Elements Desktop HDD
If internal would be $350+
Data horde

$299 12tb
Australia 🇦🇺

migrating files from HDD to SSD
gonna take at least 7 hours
rookie numbers
when u have to resilver a whole array that takes 3 days and in that time u can't access any of the data and pray that no other drive will fail
yeah but this is on my personal machine
a 7 hour transfer on this thing is a pain in the ass
no not personal server
personal computer lol
personal server has 48 drives in it, I'm well aware of that pain too
I am one to advocate for a move to 1440p in all but extreme budget environments; even to those who, in a gaming context, may not be able to run their games too well at 1440p
This list means nothing, as 4GB cards have been the low-end for years, and cards with 2GB's of VRAM are not pushing even 1080p too well
Okay, but the list has to do with VRAM for just the screen resolution, like using a 4GB GPU to run 1080p. So, 2GB is left for anything else
Then it's even more pointless, as that's utterly wrong
And really not how VRAM works
More like 4K is the gimmic when it comes to consumer displays
Well I didn't notice https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs updated the recommend resolution on the search option. (either that or I didn't go by the majority)
1440p is an incredible sweet spot that is becoming more widely adopted for all devices. Of course, it's benefits degrade as the display becomes smaller and/or you sit further away, but that's just how resolution works
2160p is a vastly higher quantity of pixels for diminishing returns when it comes to the balance of sitting distance, display size, and the workload of an average user (i.e a gamer)
2160p is no doubt nice for some content consumption and professional work, but with content consumption, you can often to switch to 1440p and have a truly identical experience (again depending on other factors. I recommend one not put their noses on their display or use a 35" display (excluding UW's) for their desk)
1440p should absolutely become the norm for all but entry level gaming and content viewing. Unfortunately, it is a resolution that not a lot of things such as cable TV are made for, hence why you don't really find 1440p TV's
1440p scaling is absolute crap
the resolution is not quite 1080p nor proper 4K so you have to have non gaming content adjust to the inbetween
not to mention the benefit from 1080p at least is marginal at best
I better get a higher refresh rate 1080p display than spend that same money on a 1440p display
I like higher refresh at 1080p over less refresh at 1440p.
I still need a new GPU lol
Trying to get a 3060 off Amazon cause I got $150 in gift cards from work
selling ur soul to bezos again?
There wasn't any other kind of gift cards
https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2023/01/09/first-ai-robot-lawyer-donotpay/11018060002/ lmfao. Let's go.
If I want some good laptop...
and has a touch screen
ROG Flow Z13, Razer Blade Pro 17 RTX 2080, or you guys gonna scream at me and recommending macbook then buy some "device" that enables any screen to be a touch screen instead?
or is there any other recommendations
How come a 13 inch tablet and a 17 inch desktop replacement even end up in the same consideration?

It is huge, the difference.
No common content has this problem, particularly when most content will merely be 1080p upscaled, which would look next to identical to genuine 1080p content with the variable becoming display size
Recommendation: no touchscreen unless used for professional work such as drawing, to which then a tablet is better still
1440p at ~27" is quite a sweet spot
It is a lovely sweet spot indeed
A definite go-to recommendation for the vast majority of users
Men will literally build entire Nintendo Switch entertainment units instead of going to therapy.

A quick question: can anyone recommend me a good laptop that has 16GB of Ram and the SSD of either 512GB or 1000GB?
I'm thinking of replacing my old computer later down this year.
Pick whatever with spec/design you fancy first. Then add or change the RAM/SSD yourself if it doesn't match, or at least ask the shop to do that for you.
Don't forget to check reviews of the specific model number, or similar series of the same model year. A lot of problem with performance, usability, upgradability or repairability are usually not readily apparent from the promotional materials alone
Personally tho, RAM and SSD are the lowest consideration when I buy a laptop. I'd buy one with no RAM and SSD if there's one
FWIW retailers (at least here) rarely specify what kind of RAM or SSD you actually get. What channel config, which rank and org, etc.
Preconfigured single channel RAM for example used to be (and sometimes still is) the bane of many "gaming" laptop.
Only thing you have to care about is if it has soldered RAM or not
And those two requirements are way too broad to make a suggestion. There are £300 laptops with such and £1000 laptops with such
never ever get a windows laptop with soldered ram
they are? i daily drive one
No, it's just typical Apple hate
That new M2 Mac mini at $599 is dirt cheap honestly, I might even pick it up in future
yeah
seems good
i drive m2 macbook air it’s so good
with cooling i could actually do something on it lmfao
Macbook Air when it's cooling solution is literally a wafer of aluminium:
Mac user
Huge technically to that
It's only sufficient due to it being targeted for very bursty loads
Sustained, it utterly flops and dies
And it's a huge flaw that they didn't need to implement
Was pretty funny, how shite they seemed for a 150USD combo
eh?
sustained, it works
still better than the m1
the thermals just make it look bad
and the demographic of whom the macbook air is directed to (i think) doesn’t require the hugest wirkloads
well only software encoding makes my machine flip
anything else doesn’t knock it
Mate, under sustained loads of craps itself because its literally using the smallest heatsink known to man
I'm pretty sure, under sustained, it falls below the M1. Would have to double-check that
It's only sufficient due to it being targeted for very bursty loads
it doesn’t
^
@glossy patrol
happy?
it runs hot but it performs well
it improves upon the soc, reducing power usage and increasing performance…
mate, do you have any of the macbooks?
No, neither do I have to, and neither will I
Obviously
so what’s your point lmfaooooo
Same as it was before
that you're terribly biased and ignorant? got it
Nice laptop
Gimped unnecessarily by a wafer for a heatsink
Suffers in sustained
Biased towards what
Ignorant to what
Can't just spout negative words
Infact don't answer that as I honestly don't care. Pretty objective, what I have stated
it was objective 5-6 years ago
now with the M1 being around it doesn't need active cooling to trounce on other similarly specced laptops
and that's a fact
you just doubling down on ur own takes instead of having a proper discussion (just like tabak) is not really something most here would engage with
- Does need active cooling for sustained
- Didn't at all mention anything other an Apple silicone
silicon*
i’m explaining that the sustained workload is not something the macbook air is designed for
and it is supposed to BE LIKE THAT
Iris, you seem very closed minded, and it’s hard to talk with you
no shit it need active cooling, everything does
but do you see phones with fans????
it’s like a phone, it’s compact
there's a difference between "it will work even better with active cooling" vs "it requires active cooling to even perform according to its spec sheet"
No because phones use vastly smaller and lower power chips
no shit that’s 20 watts
the m2 draws 20 watts
the gen1+ draws 15w iirc
one has an entire laptop frame, one has a small frame
the M1 in the air is 10W
ooh it is?
it is
then that’s even less heated
so the m1 is very efficient, and it doesn’t need a fan (for a laptop)
the air is also not designed to be a mobile workstation
but more as a general use portable computer
Very little is designed to be a mobile workstation
no? the m series apple silicon uses is based on a phones
you want a powerhouse get the pro
A series iphones
It's based on ARM
NO SHIT IRIS
On a larger scale
Yeah, I know that
What of it
it doesn’t need cooling
you can make ARM chips have a TDP of 160W, your point?
Technically does as it throttles
i just wanted to say that the m1/m2 doesn’t need cooling
it’s a thin laptop
the pro laptop is thicker
get the macbook pro?
the heat output of the chip can be tweaked according to what u want
Or they could just fit a proper cooling solution (could even still be passive)
obv not by the user but it can be adapted
ARM chips do need cooling if they draw a lot of power, but that’s not the case here
it will make the experience of the laptop worse
heat the backside to burn your legs?
No it won't
ok miss thermal design engineer, then what is ur solution outside of "proper cooling"
Where's that from then
a laptop
Okay but how did you get that from my message
a fucking laptop with your form of cooling
- Active cooling
Or - Reasonable thermal mass
thermal mass is jackshit
like that solves anything
where would you place it smh
Means a lot actually
it still throttles bruh
proof?
In the space that even the air has
A lot
got any thermal simulations
No
then?
Do you?
yeah
Provide
Iris when 💀
sec
i know my macbook uses the chassis to cool
Ok
oK💀
Yeah, using the chassis to cool isn't new tech
under artifical loads
These are just thermal images. What is this proving
Iris, what do you want to say
that it's a good thermal solution
active cooling is designed for the Macbook Pro laptops
Because Apple made it so
i showed you a graph Iris
The m2 performs better than the m1
even when the m1 had a huge heatsink
the heat is dissipated evenly from the laptop with no heatspots near the SoC
Yeah, other devices have employed that too
^
and more importantly the battery section still stays relatively cool
Apple isn’t a special company Iris, stop being a hindrance
Can you find the contrary, of active cooling showing clear issue through thermal images?
through thermal imaging no but a very good case is the fat PS3 cooling system
Okay then meh
lmfao
idiots that drilled holes in the bottom of the PS3 that broke the designed airflow pattern causing the PSU and bluray drive to overheat
iirc my g502 asus laptop had sealed vents because it needed to cool other parts of the laptop
because surprise surprise sony did actually do flow and thermal simulations and proper thermal design
apple doesn’t provide a heat sink in the m2 because it can already use the chassis to cool
Macbook Air's solution works for its intended purpose
Could be improved by going active or adding more mass so you're not getting ¾ of an advertised M2 in anything but extremely short bursts
Such changes would not utterly change or ruin the laptop
Was just Apple's decision
And is my issue
are you that dumb
the chip itself is not going to go faster just because you give it more headroom
because apple designed it to have this behavior
Not that I'm ever going to buy a MacBook Air M2, yet I could consider if it were changed
this ain't ur nvidia/AMD GPU that can go faster the more cooling u give it
until it reaches the limits of the power rails
bitch you don’t even have a mac
Breaking news: giving thermal-limited chip more cooking headroom will not improve performance
no shit Iris
Yeah, and most likely won't ever
Nah
it isn’t your problem
Don't need to own it to mention it
Don't need any. Seen the experience provided by others
Okay, but it does. It throttles
what the fuck is wrong with you
no shit
it already is at max perf
You just said it doesn't slow down
yeah
the chips is DESIGNED to only be able to over it's max specs for short burts
Okay but then you just said it does
because you can’t hit the m2 peak performance
well that only happens when i encode and blender render at the same times
as in if I took the damn laptop apart and strapped a giant ass heatsink to it it'll still perform exactly the same
Show me such
IRIS
nobody has the money to tear apart a laptop
it’s designed to be thin and work with a small heatsink
Okay but they do
And when did I say it was
it’s a 20w soc that uses like 5-6 watts at most
Or suggest it was
No, a chip that draws 5W can throttle
it is obviously but nobody that has the m2 can throttle there
the chassis cools it fast enough
Saying it throttles is not at all like saying it's a 65W hot chip
no this is just talking to a brick fucking wall
Okay but it doesn't, because it throttles
it doesn’t draw 20 watts (m2) sustained
up to you but I literally cba to educate someone on thermal design
my laptop goes from 60 to 30 degrees in seconds
Yeah, that happens with 200W chips
Nothing special about that
Still throttles
Yeah, I know they do
I am complaining that the Air does not have more mass or a fan too
Never said I was
Neither are you
ranting about your girlfriends overheating laptop proves no point
but i have the laptop, and i have experience with it
you don’t
Never said anything about a girlfriend or an overheating laptop on my end
Don't care if you have experience with it
so if you don’t have a problem, why even complain with it
Because I could very well consider the device if it didn't have such an issue
nobody asked you to consider the laptop
No, neither did I say they did
ever since ALO opened these chats, it’s been dumb
Cope
fuck off Iris
if they wanna keep going then just ignore them
Laptop throttles
Would be nice if it didn't
If it didn't, I would consider purchasing it as it'd be a better device
Simple
also fun fact
It doesn't slow down but then it does slow down
It does throttle but then it doesn't
Make up your mind
most laptops do not have the VRMs capable of pushing them further even if the chip is rated for possible higher TDPs
I learned that the hard way when I was overclocking my old gaming laptop
Okay but when did I say I wanted to push more watts through it
I wasn't talking to u
ah
But nobody said anything along those lines, so pretty random
And yeah, laptops are built to a "tight" spec
And please don't overclock your laptops unironically, which I'm aware you didn't
you can’t even have a normal convo
Must buy expensive laptop to do basic tasks
Truth
battery life is peak
like back in the nvidia 9 series and intel 7th gen era the mobile GPUs had much more potential than what any mid-high end gaming laptop could offer in terms of cooling without sounding like a jet engine
laptop is cheap
“I bought a $2,000 gaming laptop to use google”
900 bucks for a macbook that has good performance is fairly nice
900 bucks m2 macbook air, and it performs great
at home I made a water cooling plate that strapped to the heatpipes of the GPU and CPU to kick them to their max TDP
I want a Zephyrus G15 but they're so expensive
My iddy bitty Chromebook can't even cope with 144p YouTube, and it's display is less tall than my phone
Nope
but after a 30% increase in perf I hit the power throttle limit on both CPU and GPU
Nobody cares about the 2020 G15
even doe both of them were running at 30 degrees
oooh tell me
ah fair enough
it cools
I was running them through a jank aliexpress special open loop
💀💀
Make an alcohol cooled laptop
sup
Extreme cooling
had a big plastic tub on my desk that I would keep adding ice into
Idk
can’t you just like
keeping it at ambient
hell ye
Use dry ice
not really
For even more
Dell Chromebook 3100
That's it I think
(Not the 2-in-1)
Cope
nah
after a couple of PUBG matches (it was that long ago) the water would reach 70-80C
If I find a new coolant I should call it copium
you literally could make tea with that
use mercury with dry ice
There's one laptop I do wish I could've played around with. It had an AMD V140
easy
What about motor oil
shut the fuck up iris
could work
motor oil is a lubricant
oh
poor thermal conductivity
same deal
wait yk those passive cool pc cases
Plug it into a radiator
it just makes the water freeze at a lower temp by adding glycol into the mixture
how do those work
Done
They work exactly like your MacBook
shut the fuck up iris
basically they use very large fins and heatpipes
and then heat rises right
Wait I’m an engineering student
It's all about surface area
yeah
so it just works
I can make a PC radiator
shut up iris
oooooh
you have to stack the fins vertically and they have to have a lot of spacing for them to work effectively
ah
ok for those passive cooled cases
can you just strap a fan to it and get extreme cooling
you saw that those cases have the fins at a couple of cm apart
No
nobody asked iris shut up
unlike ur usual radiator which has a dense fin array
Because fans are used to create airflow
It would help, but if wouldn't function like a typical case
that's because they rely on gas thermodynamics to exchange the heat from the metal surface and into the surrounding air
ioooh i see
via convection and radiation
the latter you can feel as that blast of heat emanating from the heatsink
And then it'd be a bit pointless to have the "passive" part when adding a fan to it, and you'd need a very large fans or lots of small fans that cover all angles externally
the former is that slight breeze you can feel at the top of those heatsinks
or the watery-like haze you see on hot summer asphalt
i see
thanku
ah
make sense now
thanks
it's also why the heatsinks are generally left unpainted as the paint would act as a barrier for convection
unless u go into outer space then u paint them white
Isn’t that why the Concorde was painted white
not really
aircraft has a lot of layers underneath them before you reach the outer coat and the livery
the main reason they're painted white is because
- they're easy to spot (by birds, ppl, other aircraft)
- it fades a lot slower than colors
- any sort of dent, scratch, fatigue or stress point can be easily visible
So I can’t use a calculator in calculus classes
WE ARENT CAVE MEN
WE HAVE TECHNOLOGY
it's for ur own good
also this green coat is not paint primer or anything like this
It's obviously mold
The point of calculus classes are too solve the equation, not to solve the calculation
it's a protective coating designed to prevent oxidation of the aluminum fuselage and spars
The worst computer is one that simply doesn't work
Ah the green chromate anti corrosion primer
it's not a primer
there's like 4 other coats after it before u apply the white paint
Eh, for some reason we sometimes call any treatment coat as primer
I guess the correct terminology only apply to the layer before the paint
yeah it's the layer that is applied before the paint to have it grip better to the surfae
You don't need that much airflow to improve passive heatsink's natural draft. You definitely don't need to cover all the surface.
ard it's pointless to argue with a brick wall
Well, yeah, any airflow would improve its performance, no matter how miniscule
OH I USED TO DO THIS LOL
I had 120mm duct tubing
Cut a hole into the cooler. Attach fan. Attach tubing from cooler to PC. lol
Power the fan with a battery or some shit lmao
ahhh so thats what you were doing
connected to a pump and a plastic food container that had water with ice
I didn't think at the time to add a radiator and fans
lol
so as u can guess
I had to change out the water in the container p often
the pump was ran off a 12V brick I had
I used an Arduino that was getting power from my computer to control my fan
if I would've addded a rad and fans I would've probably piggy backed off that 12V brick
I feel like with the knowledge I know now, I can probably bullshit better air cooling for my computer
with the skills and knowledge I have rn I could watercool p much anything lol
By just having a duct run out my window with an air pump
And then isolate the air pump's noise outside.
Easiest way, is to use Air Craft Avionics cooling fans, more volume per minute in the equivalent space
they're painted white because it provides the best UV resistance
UV is a much greater threat at high altitude than it is on the ground and it can cause paint to break down
when paint breaks down it tends to damage the gel coat which is expensive and time consuming to repair
it doesn't fly anove the ozone layer what are you even on about
the ozone layer isn't the only thing that repels UV
the entire atmosphere plays some part in repelling UV
there's a noticeable difference in exposure, even at just 10,000ft
literally the main point is that it stays on for longer and easy to spot something wrong
no shit it "stays on for longer", it's not absorbing as much ionising radiation compared to other colours
gel-coat repairs are really expensive, especially on composite materials
UV is not ionizing radiation tf are you even spewing
now you're just arguing semantics because you want at least a partial victory
it's not a boat to use a gel coat
are you saying aircraft don't have a gel-coat?
oh boy
at least not in the traditional sense
Here's part of an aircraft some mates and I got a few years back
it had been sitting outside, unattended for years and had severe gel-coat and paint damage
so you're comparing a crop duster to an airliner ok
it's not a crop duster
it's a composite sailplane, made using the same methods as modern composite aircraft parts
and that looks more like corrosion than paint delayering
the entire aircraft is made from fibreglass and carbon fibre
which considering u said it's a sailplane makes damn sense
and also explains the gel coat
yeah gel-coat is used on composite parts whereas a clear-coat is used on metallic ones
both will fracture and crack with UV exposure
the gel coat is mainly used in marine applications where salty water is a bigger issue, if UV was such a big deal then the windows of an airplane would be coated or layered with UV blocking materials too
basically the paint breaks down and expands slightly when it does so, this causes the hard coat on top to crack
the main two reasons why planes are white are as I said, you can spot spills and frame damage really easily and it reflects a lot of heat
the first one you demonstrated yourself
if the paint coats were so brittle then airliners would need to be painted every other year
instead they're repainted once a decade
UV isn't a major issue for passengers because they're not flying often
a flight across the Atlantic ocean is equivalent to like 2 chest X-rays if I remember correctly.
as for pilots we take measures to protect ourselves and the cockpit glass provides some resistance
X RAYS NOT UV
I am aware
quit with the semantics
I'm simply talking in terms of radiation exposure
you quit with the bullshit you asspull
???
UV is NOTHING like ionizing radiation
they will both turn your skin red and give you cancer
they're fundamentally different
I've been a pilot since I was 13 and live in a country with one of the highest rates of skin cancer, I'm quite educated on the subject through life experience alone
wait what are you guys talking about?
obviously x-rays and UV are different but the type of damage they cause to your body is somewhat comparable, hence why people tend to compare them
why aircraft are painted white
so it looks nice
now ur talking bullshit
aircraft is white because idk
and why would that be?
it helps with visibility?
well obviously you wouldn’t paint your plane black or red or smthn
you need to be at least 16 for baloons and gliders and 17 for any powered aircraft to even have a chance at getting a pilot license
as per ICAO regulations
aircraft visibility cares more about finish than colour
when looking for other aircraft you're looking for sun glints and silhouettes.
Being shiny will get you seen, not being white
oooh ok
white = shiny
most of the time
but planes are painted white because it’s easier
white reflects heat
and or something like that
it reflects something, and it helps with something
yes it very much does reflect heat
yes heat
just like black absorbs it
so planes won’t be black
yeah they won't
ICAO doesn't govern all categories of aviation and different countries have their own regulations for certain categories
I can post my logbook if you really care
In my country you're allowed to start taking flight lessons at age 12 and can fly a sailplane solo at age 15
but nothing stops you from painting it black
there are some black planes
so what’s your talk about Uv and exyray
🔥
looks unsettling
also some private jets are black too
and I think air new zealand has like a couple black airliners?
do you think a micro drone is able to fly higher than 500m
but yeah they're incredibly rare
you got awfully quiet to me as soon as I said I could prove you wrong
someone doesn't want their ego hurt
not you lol
no I just see that it's pointless to talk to a glider pilot that has literally no idea how the bigger aircraft operate
but that's the fun part
I don't think you realise this but aircraft manufacturing and maintenance techniques actually scale with size
light aircraft are made using much of the same processes as heavy ones
10/10 as chat
-5 for having racists
-2 electron
air new zealand did say that on the next repaint these black planes will become white again
I also hold certifications in Avionics and have experience with large aircraft
Yamato argues with everyone on here lmao

?
no I only argue with cunts
no offence, Yamato
he’s sane last time i saw him
and ignorant ppl
only this morning i saw smthn off
I am a cunt that's right, Australia is full of good cunts
💀
mf deals with big ass spiders
if i had a gun i’d shoot one asf
what if it got behind the fridge
but yeah sometimes you just gotta take the L and acknowledge that people know more than you about certain things
I wouldn't argue sysadmin shit with you
move to a new country
because you have experience
I admit I don't have much experience with ultralights and gliders but I do have a decent experience with turboprops
why are consumer air filters so expensive? it’s confusing since it’s just a fan and a filter
turboprops are the big commercial planes right
or the engines in those big chunks
no
oh
turboprops are literally planes with propellers
that the engine of is turbocharged
I've got a couple hundred hours experience in gliders, both metal and composite, about 50 hours in light powered shit, and about 10 hours in the heavy bois
jet engines are their own separate category
the engine isn't turbocharged lol, the engine is a turbo
well it's a gas turbine but you get what I mean
i’ll leave you guys be, but don’t get too personal
I think things will get more civilised now
ye it doesn't have a turbocharger strapped to it lol
yeah lmao
but the general principle is the same
funny enough the only turboprop I have experience with is a big fucker
a Cessna 172 or
before my country retired the P3 Orion I got to have a few quick 30 minute stick sessions with it
As part of a government defence youth program my country does
you weren't pilot in command now were you
it's just basic air-experience style stuff, they put you in the right-hand seat and get you to make some basic turns, climbs, etc
ah so the kid stuff lol
lol yeah
EASA would rip our heads off for putting children at the controls of any plane
I've also flown in the new Poseidon for a couple hours but obviously haven't got any time on the controls
I should be getting my MEP next month so I'll get to add a dozen hours on those kind of aircraft
very good
jets still outside of my reach
I'd still need the CPL and type rating
which is bullshit bcz CPL costs so much
CPL is one of those things I'll get eventually
when I have a spare $100k lying around
you know
exactly
the jump from PPL with the ratings to a CPL is insane
not even gonna mention ATPL
yeah I'm perfectly fine with my GPC thanks
GPC lets me enter racing competitions and compete on a national level
I got a PPL with NR, IR and now waiting on my scheduled MEP lessons to get that as well
I could get a PPL through an air force sponsorship but it's hard to find time that works on their terms
they do it in courses, you go away for a while, fly all day every day and come back with the qualification
I got it mostly because we had a student discount for the full PPL course
and the ratings because they were relatively cheap
think 2-3k cheap
yeah all kinds of flying is just expensive as shit over here
I think it cost like $350 an hour to rent a Cessna 172
I need to check what it was again
I also tacked on the UAS (read drones) pilot license to the PPL so I can pilot the remote shit as well
yeah sounds about right, here it's about 200$ as well
I'm moving to the city soon, I think I'll get back into the powered pilot shit when I'm settled in there
get that sponsorship for a PPL and save up for a CPL
here if u want a CPL you'll need to get a loan
yeah nah it's crazy expensive
you can either get a loan or pay as you go here
the CPL is broken down into different modules ranging from a couple hundred $ to a few thousand
and you just pay for each module individually
yeah but it's still crazy expensive even broken into modules
like even with my ratings I still need a couple of other modules + Class 1 medical to get to CPL
and some of those modules are hella expensive
but there's a silver lining there
with the current pilot shortage you're bound to get a good job at a decent airline
funny story actually, I almost ruined my 20-20 vision record for my defence medical
my test was delayed by like 2 hours so I just sat there in the waiting room scrolling on my phone
because I had spent the last 2 hours staring at a bright, close brick in my hand everything on the far away test was blurry as hell
but I still just managed to make out all the letters
on the bottom row I couldn't differentiate a Q from a G so I guessed it and was correct
I have 10/20 vision but I feel like my other medical records can bar me from getting a Class 1
ah okay
well I'll know for sure once I go through with the check
I remember having to wait over a month for defence to sift through my entire medical history because of an injury I sustained when I was 5
ye for Class 1 they go through your records with a fine toothed comb
in my interview they asked me if I had ever had any serious breaks or fractures and I said no, then they pointed to the huge scar on my arm and were like "so what's that for?" and I thought "ah shit"
I had completely forgotten about it
p much
ok
I hope logitech is expecting people to sign up, get free chocolate, and then never show up to this zoom call lmao
This worth it?
300 nits would be a drop for me
and the soldered ram
but for 900 bucks, it seems worth it
just remembe to switch out the 512gb ssd to 1tb
idk
I think they're trying to dump their inventory
