I mean Red Magic isnt about the camera. It's about gaming lol

subtle hawk
#

....

#

But, if I am forced to pick

#

yeah

#

I rather under screen than punch hole

#

plz under screen IMO

#

IMO punch hole seemed like... wtf

#

I dunno if gamers would like to see their phone screen have some punch holes or not

subtle hawk
#

Considering most, if not all phones have "hole punch" / "punch hole" front camera, you tend to get used to it and start ignoring it

#

Unless you have trypophobia or OCD

subtle hawk
#

Hmmm... Would rather the under screen

#

but ok

#

Well, that's a you thing

subtle hawk
#

i never see the hole pinch on the 8t

#

it just disappears once u start using it

ashen zodiac
#

You really gotta like, focus on it, on an angle.

#

At probably full brightness too

subtle hawk
#

yeah

subtle hawk
#

why punch hole seemed good in your PoV?

glossy patrol
#

Unsure what there isn't to like Vs a notch

subtle hawk
#

Hmmm... efficiency eh

glossy patrol
#

It's more efficient, lol. Less estate taken

subtle hawk
#

glossy patrol
#

Well OFC

subtle hawk
#

Also, if I ain't recommended to buy ROG Phone 6(Even it is the one that fulfils my phone wishlist(No Notch/Punch hole/Just your standard bezel)) and... I don't want(Will Never Want, and will do my best to resist) iPhone(That 90% of the money ran into si called aReNDeh and apple logo and so called Security)

Then what is on your mind for other reccomendation

ashen zodiac
#

ROG Phone 6 suffers the same issue as ROG Phone 5

#

Snaps in half

#

Also ASUS doesn't update their phones at all

subtle hawk
#

hmmm.... Snaps in half?

#

Also... Can you recommend my any other brand that is not Apple?

hexed citrus

samsung

oppo

subtle hawk

yeah

#

i don’t recommend Nothing since the phone specs are pretty mid

little seal
#

what about a Linux phone?

subtle hawk
#

nah

#

little to no compatibility

little seal
#

Still, Linux phones could be just as popular, just need more advertising and the phones need better specifications (more then 6GB of RAM and 16GB of Storage)

Moto's ain't spectacular, either. Yer lucky to get 2 version updates.

subtle hawk
ashen zodiac
#

Not Oppo either

#

Oppo is just the sister brand of OnePlus except more stuck with the stupid Color OS

lilac spindle
subtle hawk
#

So I'm personally staying on Samsung or iPhone, done with experimenting with other brands

ashen zodiac
#

They didn't switch to ColorOS. They tried to merge ColorOS into Oxygen OS.

Oppo is ColorOS lol.

subtle hawk
#

Oh yeah, I think I got that backwards honestly

#

But yeah, my point being that I'm done with OP

ashen zodiac
#

Same.

glossy patrol
#

OnePlus Nord 1 is the goat

subtle hawk
#

don't tell me that 99% of you guys will actually suggest an apple If I don't say anything but them

#

Yes, I too would go with Apple, because I certainly don't feel like ever buying an ROG, Red Magic (literal who in my eyes) or something off-brand

#

as expected

#

Quite indeed

#

Are apple phones cost effective and have good spec to price ratio tho?

#

I think Android are more cost effective and have better spec to price ratio

#

but again, do enlighten me

#

I'm just saying what I would go for still, despite the last time I've used an iPhone, was back in 2014 to 2016, iPhone 6
However, I might get an iPhone again in future, don't have to buy it on launch, can buy it later on when the price drops

#

Ironically though, that same iPhone 6 is on iOS 12.5, cannot go higher than that, and even with 1GB of RAM, it can still do stuff

#

Hmmm.... oh okay tho, thanks for the info....

#

that might be put into the consideration for the next phone of mine, if... somehow I get lucky with money

ashen zodiac
#

I'd honestly get an iPhone. iOS is pretty shit for my use but it's really optimized and easy to use. I'd prefer if I can install Android on it.

I'd also wait till the USB C phones are out.

subtle hawk
#

Might put this opinion to the consideration of the next phone of mine then... If you said Iphone was easy to use

#

iphone is a great phone, although it is more expsnvie

#

androids aren't more cost effective, since the caveats are mostly in the camera and software

subtle hawk
ashen zodiac
#

It's not a camera phone, it's a gaming phone. lol

yeah ram swap

it's an eh feature, considering many phones have like 8-16gb ram now

shocking a phone has more ram than my computer

that just proves my point

most phones have more ram

I don't own a M1 macbook. chima_shrug

And I ain't paying over 4 grand for it where I live

4 grand?

#

it was li ke 1100 here with 3 year applecare

#

I'm in one of the countries in Europe, not US fam

#

i'm not in the US fam

#

And yes, just checked, if I convert local currency to USD, it's roughly 2 grand

#

It was more than that the other day so it looks like it dropped off

#

so it isn't the 4 grand you're saying

#

I'm saying the price has dropped off

it shouldn't

#

Well here it does

can u send ss

Why would I?

nvm

it's fine

You don't understand the language and I don't feel like showing it honestly

And it's not "trust me bro" as well, I know how well the Apple stuff is expensive here

Yes, language. There are languages besides English

you're speaking english right now though

That's not my point

lmfao what

subtle hawk
#

Let me try to simplify it: I'm not sharing the websites because you don't understand the language that my country uses, which is not English

#

Better?

#

you sound less selfish taht way

#

yeah

#

ty

#

Selfish?

#

idk the word

#

but nvm that

#

what model of macbooka re we compring to?

#

cuz the 4 grand is pretty high

#

M2 MacBook Pro

ashen zodiac
#

I'll buy one from the IT auction at work when they sell it.

Not gonna go out of my way to get an M1 macbook

i have the m2 air

ashen zodiac

And I know they just got a bunch of new ones lmao

subtle hawk

les goooooo

#

So I'm looking at 13" M2 MacBook Pro, which is $2380 (converted from local currency to USD)

#

It was almost 4k when it got imported here, and the price has slowly started dropping off, and I'm talking new

#

what

#

it's so much more expensive when i bought the laptop

#

it's 1120 usd

#

Again, different countries, different prices

#

we're using USD as a baseline

#

both of us aren't in usa

#

let's both use USD?

subtle hawk
#

I'm also in the country where a Z Flip 4 (8GB RAM / 256GB storage) launched for $1170 when it came out, and now you can easily find it for $700 new

#

list currency pls

#

don't be an ass

#

I'm not sharing it

#

convert it to USD

#

so i can understand it

#

That was USD above

#

well then LABEL IT

#

?? I mean using the $ symbol isn't enough?

#

there's cad and usd

#

You went over your own statement there

#

So I figured I don't have to address it any more?

#

alr then

#

my bad

#

it's still 800 here

the z flip 4

mind you, that's the 8/128 model

subtle hawk

I was meant, "okay then, it is understandable..."

ah

I mean, while I don't need such fancy things as cameras and softwares since I ain't your average instagram/tiktok opener guy and more to a gamer side of things... but I do understand such people who love to take selfies/make a short video about little things/food photography does exists

hence, kinda understandable when someone recommending an iPhone for that

Sliding + folding phone from Samsung Display

#

lol

glossy patrol
#

More like 4K is the gimmic when it comes to consumer displays

little seal
glossy patrol
#

1440p is an incredible sweet spot that is becoming more widely adopted for all devices. Of course, it's benefits degrade as the display becomes smaller and/or you sit further away, but that's just how resolution works

#

2160p is a vastly higher quantity of pixels for diminishing returns when it comes to the balance of sitting distance, display size, and the workload of an average user (i.e a gamer)
2160p is no doubt nice for some content consumption and professional work, but with content consumption, you can often to switch to 1440p and have a truly identical experience (again depending on other factors. I recommend one not put their noses on their display or use a 35" display (excluding UW's) for their desk)

#

1440p should absolutely become the norm for all but entry level gaming and content viewing. Unfortunately, it is a resolution that not a lot of things such as cable TV are made for, hence why you don't really find 1440p TV's

hexed citrus
#

1440p scaling is absolute crap

#

the resolution is not quite 1080p nor proper 4K so you have to have non gaming content adjust to the inbetween

#

not to mention the benefit from 1080p at least is marginal at best

#

I better get a higher refresh rate 1080p display than spend that same money on a 1440p display

ashen zodiac
#

I like higher refresh at 1080p over less refresh at 1440p.

hexed citrus

A quick question: can anyone recommend me a good laptop that has 16GB of Ram and the SSD of either 512GB or 1000GB?
I'm thinking of replacing my old computer later down this year.

inland marsh
#

Pick whatever with spec/design you fancy first. Then add or change the RAM/SSD yourself if it doesn't match, or at least ask the shop to do that for you.

#

Don't forget to check reviews of the specific model number, or similar series of the same model year. A lot of problem with performance, usability, upgradability or repairability are usually not readily apparent from the promotional materials alone

#

Personally tho, RAM and SSD are the lowest consideration when I buy a laptop. I'd buy one with no RAM and SSD if there's one

#

FWIW retailers (at least here) rarely specify what kind of RAM or SSD you actually get. What channel config, which rank and org, etc.
Preconfigured single channel RAM for example used to be (and sometimes still is) the bane of many "gaming" laptop.

glossy patrol
#

Only thing you have to care about is if it has soldered RAM or not

#

And those two requirements are way too broad to make a suggestion. There are £300 laptops with such and £1000 laptops with such

subtle hawk
#

never ever get a windows laptop with soldered ram

Was pretty funny, how shite they seemed for a 150USD combo

subtle hawk

sustained, it works

the thermals just make it look bad

well only software encoding makes my machine flip

anything else doesn’t knock it

glossy patrol

Infact don't answer that as I honestly don't care. Pretty objective, what I have stated

hexed citrus
#

it was objective 5-6 years ago

#

now with the M1 being around it doesn't need active cooling to trounce on other similarly specced laptops

#

and that's a fact

#

you just doubling down on ur own takes instead of having a proper discussion (just like tabak) is not really something most here would engage with

glossy patrol
#
  1. Does need active cooling for sustained
  2. Didn't at all mention anything other an Apple silicone
subtle hawk
#

silicon*

#

i’m explaining that the sustained workload is not something the macbook air is designed for

#

and it is supposed to BE LIKE THAT

#

Iris, you seem very closed minded, and it’s hard to talk with you

subtle hawk
#

but do you see phones with fans????

#

it’s like a phone, it’s compact

hexed citrus
#

there's a difference between "it will work even better with active cooling" vs "it requires active cooling to even perform according to its spec sheet"

glossy patrol
#

No because phones use vastly smaller and lower power chips

subtle hawk
#

no shit that’s 20 watts

#

the m2 draws 20 watts

#

the gen1+ draws 15w iirc

#

one has an entire laptop frame, one has a small frame

hexed citrus
#

the M1 in the air is 10W

subtle hawk
#

ooh it is?

hexed citrus
#

it is

subtle hawk
#

then that’s even less heated

#

so the m1 is very efficient, and it doesn’t need a fan (for a laptop)

hexed citrus

the air is also not designed to be a mobile workstation

#

but more as a general use portable computer

The m2 performs better than the m1

even when the m1 had a huge heatsink

hexed citrus

the heat is dissipated evenly from the laptop with no heatspots near the SoC

glossy patrol
#

Yeah, other devices have employed that too

subtle hawk
hexed citrus
#

and more importantly the battery section still stays relatively cool

subtle hawk
glossy patrol
#

Can you find the contrary, of active cooling showing clear issue through thermal images?

subtle hawk

iirc my g502 asus laptop had sealed vents because it needed to cool other parts of the laptop

hexed citrus
#

because surprise surprise sony did actually do flow and thermal simulations and proper thermal design

subtle hawk
#

apple doesn’t provide a heat sink in the m2 because it can already use the chassis to cool

glossy patrol
#

Macbook Air's solution works for its intended purpose
Could be improved by going active or adding more mass so you're not getting ¾ of an advertised M2 in anything but extremely short bursts
Such changes would not utterly change or ruin the laptop
Was just Apple's decision
And is my issue

hexed citrus
#

are you that dumb

#

the chip itself is not going to go faster just because you give it more headroom

#

because apple designed it to have this behavior

glossy patrol
#

Not that I'm ever going to buy a MacBook Air M2, yet I could consider if it were changed

hexed citrus
#

this ain't ur nvidia/AMD GPU that can go faster the more cooling u give it

#

until it reaches the limits of the power rails

subtle hawk
glossy patrol
#

Breaking news: giving thermal-limited chip more cooking headroom will not improve performance

Which causes a loss in Performance

#

That is a slow down

subtle hawk
#

what the fuck is wrong with you

subtle hawk
hexed citrus
#

it already is at max perf

glossy patrol
subtle hawk
#

yeah

hexed citrus
#

the chips is DESIGNED to only be able to over it's max specs for short burts

glossy patrol
#

Okay but then you just said it does

subtle hawk
#

because you can’t hit the m2 peak performance

#

well that only happens when i encode and blender render at the same times

hexed citrus
#

as in if I took the damn laptop apart and strapped a giant ass heatsink to it it'll still perform exactly the same

glossy patrol
#

Show me such

subtle hawk
#

IRIS

#

nobody has the money to tear apart a laptop

#

it’s designed to be thin and work with a small heatsink

glossy patrol
#

Okay but they do

subtle hawk
#

stupid hellbutt

#

it’s not a 65w cpu

glossy patrol
#

And when did I say it was

subtle hawk
#

it’s a 20w soc that uses like 5-6 watts at most

glossy patrol
#

Or suggest it was

subtle hawk
#

draws mili watts when idle

#

you suggest it is by saying it’s throttling

glossy patrol
#

No, a chip that draws 5W can throttle

subtle hawk
#

it is obviously but nobody that has the m2 can throttle there

subtle hawk
glossy patrol
#

Saying it throttles is not at all like saying it's a 65W hot chip

hexed citrus
#

no this is just talking to a brick fucking wall

glossy patrol
subtle hawk
#

it doesn’t draw 20 watts (m2) sustained

subtle hawk
#

should i go?

glossy patrol
#

Okay but when did I say it drew such a wattage sustained

#

I said it throttles

subtle hawk
#

but cools instantly

#

near instantly

hexed citrus
#

up to you but I literally cba to educate someone on thermal design

subtle hawk
#

my laptop goes from 60 to 30 degrees in seconds

glossy patrol
#

Yeah, that happens with 200W chips
Nothing special about that
Still throttles

subtle hawk
#

then get the m2 macbook pro

#

those have fans

#

you’re not a thermal engineer

glossy patrol
#

Yeah, I know they do
I am complaining that the Air does not have more mass or a fan too

#

Never said I was

#

Neither are you

subtle hawk
#

ranting about your girlfriends overheating laptop proves no point

#

but i have the laptop, and i have experience with it

#

you don’t

glossy patrol
#

Never said anything about a girlfriend or an overheating laptop on my end

#

Don't care if you have experience with it

subtle hawk
#

so if you don’t have a problem, why even complain with it

subtle hawk
#

he doesn’t care 🔥

glossy patrol
subtle hawk
#

nobody asked you to consider the laptop

glossy patrol
#

No, neither did I say they did

subtle hawk
#

ever since ALO opened these chats, it’s been dumb

glossy patrol
#

Cope

hexed citrus
#

nah just them them to fuck off

#

simple as that

subtle hawk
#

fuck off Iris

hexed citrus
#

if they wanna keep going then just ignore them

subtle hawk
#

ah okay

#

thanks

glossy patrol
#

Laptop throttles
Would be nice if it didn't
If it didn't, I would consider purchasing it as it'd be a better device
Simple

hexed citrus
#

also fun fact

glossy patrol
#

It doesn't slow down but then it does slow down
It does throttle but then it doesn't
Make up your mind

hexed citrus
#

most laptops do not have the VRMs capable of pushing them further even if the chip is rated for possible higher TDPs

#

I learned that the hard way when I was overclocking my old gaming laptop

glossy patrol
#

Okay but when did I say I wanted to push more watts through it

hexed citrus
#

I wasn't talking to u

subtle hawk
#

ah

glossy patrol
#

But nobody said anything along those lines, so pretty random

subtle hawk
#

Iris can you shut your fucking mouth up

#

it’s really annoying

glossy patrol
#

And yeah, laptops are built to a "tight" spec
And please don't overclock your laptops unironically, which I'm aware you didn't

subtle hawk
#

you can’t even have a normal convo

bright rampart
#

Must buy expensive laptop to do basic tasks

glossy patrol
subtle hawk
#

battery life is peak

hexed citrus
#

like back in the nvidia 9 series and intel 7th gen era the mobile GPUs had much more potential than what any mid-high end gaming laptop could offer in terms of cooling without sounding like a jet engine

subtle hawk
#

laptop is cheap

bright rampart
#

“I bought a $2,000 gaming laptop to use google”

subtle hawk
#

900 bucks for a macbook that has good performance is fairly nice

#

900 bucks m2 macbook air, and it performs great

hexed citrus
#

at home I made a water cooling plate that strapped to the heatpipes of the GPU and CPU to kick them to their max TDP

glossy patrol
#

I want a Zephyrus G15 but they're so expensive
My iddy bitty Chromebook can't even cope with 144p YouTube, and it's display is less tall than my phone

subtle hawk
#

haha fuckass

#

cope

#

zephyrus g15 has cooling problems

glossy patrol
#

Nope

hexed citrus
#

but after a 30% increase in perf I hit the power throttle limit on both CPU and GPU

subtle hawk
#

the g15 2020 has shitty cooling

#

also with the g15

#

i have expetience

glossy patrol
#

Nobody cares about the 2020 G15

hexed citrus
#

even doe both of them were running at 30 degrees

bright rampart
#

I know how to make a liquid cooled laptop

#

Dunk it in water

subtle hawk
#

ah fair enough

#

it cools

bright rampart
#

Yes

#

I didn’t say it was practical

#

But it cools

subtle hawk
#

but it water cools

#

yes

hexed citrus
#

I was running them through a jank aliexpress special open loop kekw

subtle hawk
#

💀💀

bright rampart
#

Make an alcohol cooled laptop

subtle hawk
#

sup

bright rampart
#

Extreme cooling

subtle hawk
#

ayo

#

those work?

hexed citrus
#

had a big plastic tub on my desk that I would keep adding ice into

bright rampart
#

Idk

subtle hawk
#

can’t you just like

hexed citrus
#

keeping it at ambient

subtle hawk
#

damn

#

mf used ice cooling

hexed citrus
#

hell ye

subtle hawk
#

on god

#

peak efficiency

bright rampart
#

Use dry ice

hexed citrus
#

not really

bright rampart
#

For even more

glossy patrol
subtle hawk
#

nobody asked Iris

#

shut the fuck up

glossy patrol
#

Cope

subtle hawk
#

nah

hexed citrus
#

after a couple of PUBG matches (it was that long ago) the water would reach 70-80C

bright rampart
#

If I find a new coolant I should call it copium

hexed citrus
#

you literally could make tea with that kekw

subtle hawk
#

use mercury with dry ice

glossy patrol
#

There's one laptop I do wish I could've played around with. It had an AMD V140

subtle hawk
#

easy

bright rampart
#

What about motor oil

subtle hawk
#

shut the fuck up iris

subtle hawk
hexed citrus
#

motor oil is a lubricant

subtle hawk
#

oh

hexed citrus
#

poor thermal conductivity

bright rampart
#

Wait

#

I meant antifreeze

hexed citrus
#

same deal

subtle hawk
#

wait yk those passive cool pc cases

bright rampart
#

Plug it into a radiator

hexed citrus
#

it just makes the water freeze at a lower temp by adding glycol into the mixture

subtle hawk
#

how do those work

bright rampart
#

Done

subtle hawk
#

iirc

#

it works

glossy patrol
#

They work exactly like your MacBook

subtle hawk
#

shut the fuck up iris

hexed citrus
subtle hawk
#

and then heat rises right

bright rampart
#

Wait I’m an engineering student

glossy patrol
#

It's all about surface area

hexed citrus
#

yeah

subtle hawk
#

so it just works

bright rampart
#

I can make a PC radiator

subtle hawk
#

shut up iris

subtle hawk
hexed citrus
#

you have to stack the fins vertically and they have to have a lot of spacing for them to work effectively

subtle hawk
#

ah

#

ok for those passive cooled cases

#

can you just strap a fan to it and get extreme cooling

hexed citrus
#

you saw that those cases have the fins at a couple of cm apart

glossy patrol
#

No

subtle hawk
#

nobody asked iris shut up

hexed citrus
#

unlike ur usual radiator which has a dense fin array

glossy patrol
#

Because fans are used to create airflow
It would help, but if wouldn't function like a typical case

hexed citrus
#

that's because they rely on gas thermodynamics to exchange the heat from the metal surface and into the surrounding air

subtle hawk
#

ioooh i see

hexed citrus
#

via convection and radiation

#

the latter you can feel as that blast of heat emanating from the heatsink

glossy patrol
#

And then it'd be a bit pointless to have the "passive" part when adding a fan to it, and you'd need a very large fans or lots of small fans that cover all angles externally

hexed citrus
#

the former is that slight breeze you can feel at the top of those heatsinks

#

or the watery-like haze you see on hot summer asphalt

subtle hawk
#

make sense now

#

thanks

hexed citrus
#

it's also why the heatsinks are generally left unpainted as the paint would act as a barrier for convection

#

unless u go into outer space then u paint them white

bright rampart
#

Isn’t that why the Concorde was painted white

hexed citrus
#

not really

#

aircraft has a lot of layers underneath them before you reach the outer coat and the livery

#

the main reason they're painted white is because

  1. they're easy to spot (by birds, ppl, other aircraft)
  2. it fades a lot slower than colors
  3. any sort of dent, scratch, fatigue or stress point can be easily visible
bright rampart
#

So I can’t use a calculator in calculus classes

#

WE ARENT CAVE MEN

#

WE HAVE TECHNOLOGY

hexed citrus
#

it's for ur own good

#

also this green coat is not paint primer or anything like this

glossy patrol
#

It's obviously mold

inland marsh
#

The point of calculus classes are too solve the equation, not to solve the calculation

hexed citrus
#

it's a protective coating designed to prevent oxidation of the aluminum fuselage and spars

bright rampart
#

What’s the worst computer

#

Because I want to make it even worse

glossy patrol
#

The worst computer is one that simply doesn't work

bright rampart
#

Ok

#

Time to break it

inland marsh
#

Ah the green chromate anti corrosion primer

hexed citrus
#

it's not a primer

#

there's like 4 other coats after it before u apply the white paint

inland marsh
#

Eh, for some reason we sometimes call any treatment coat as primer
I guess the correct terminology only apply to the layer before the paint

hexed citrus
#

yeah it's the layer that is applied before the paint to have it grip better to the surfae

inland marsh
hexed citrus
#

ard it's pointless to argue with a brick wall

glossy patrol
#

Well, yeah, any airflow would improve its performance, no matter how miniscule

ashen zodiac
#

I had 120mm duct tubing

#

Cut a hole into the cooler. Attach fan. Attach tubing from cooler to PC. lol

#

Power the fan with a battery or some shit lmao

hexed citrus
#

I was using smth like this

ashen zodiac
#

ahhh so thats what you were doing

hexed citrus
#

connected to a pump and a plastic food container that had water with ice

#

I didn't think at the time to add a radiator and fans

ashen zodiac
#

lol

hexed citrus
#

so as u can guess

#

I had to change out the water in the container p often

#

the pump was ran off a 12V brick I had

ashen zodiac
#

I used an Arduino that was getting power from my computer to control my fan

hexed citrus
#

if I would've addded a rad and fans I would've probably piggy backed off that 12V brick

ashen zodiac
#

I feel like with the knowledge I know now, I can probably bullshit better air cooling for my computer

hexed citrus
#

with the skills and knowledge I have rn I could watercool p much anything lol

ashen zodiac
#

By just having a duct run out my window with an air pump

#

And then isolate the air pump's noise outside.

barren wraith
rough sedge
#

UV is a much greater threat at high altitude than it is on the ground and it can cause paint to break down

#

when paint breaks down it tends to damage the gel coat which is expensive and time consuming to repair

hexed citrus
rough sedge
#

the ozone layer isn't the only thing that repels UV

#

the entire atmosphere plays some part in repelling UV

#

there's a noticeable difference in exposure, even at just 10,000ft

glossy patrol
#

No idea why it randomly decides to do this some boots

hexed citrus
#

literally the main point is that it stays on for longer and easy to spot something wrong

rough sedge
#

no shit it "stays on for longer", it's not absorbing as much ionising radiation compared to other colours

#

gel-coat repairs are really expensive, especially on composite materials

hexed citrus
#

UV is not ionizing radiation tf are you even spewing

rough sedge
#

now you're just arguing semantics because you want at least a partial victory

hexed citrus
#

it's not a boat to use a gel coat

rough sedge
hexed citrus
#

it's a completely different kind of paint

#

no they don't

rough sedge
#

oh boy

hexed citrus
#

at least not in the traditional sense

rough sedge
hexed citrus
#

so you're comparing a crop duster to an airliner ok

rough sedge
#

it's not a crop duster

#

it's a composite sailplane, made using the same methods as modern composite aircraft parts

hexed citrus
#

and that looks more like corrosion than paint delayering

rough sedge
#

the entire aircraft is made from fibreglass and carbon fibre

hexed citrus
#

which considering u said it's a sailplane makes damn sense

#

and also explains the gel coat

rough sedge
#

yeah gel-coat is used on composite parts whereas a clear-coat is used on metallic ones

#

both will fracture and crack with UV exposure

hexed citrus
#

ReimuFacepalm the gel coat is mainly used in marine applications where salty water is a bigger issue, if UV was such a big deal then the windows of an airplane would be coated or layered with UV blocking materials too

rough sedge
#

basically the paint breaks down and expands slightly when it does so, this causes the hard coat on top to crack

hexed citrus
#

the main two reasons why planes are white are as I said, you can spot spills and frame damage really easily and it reflects a lot of heat

#

the first one you demonstrated yourself

#

if the paint coats were so brittle then airliners would need to be painted every other year

#

instead they're repainted once a decade

rough sedge
hexed citrus
#

X RAYS NOT UV

rough sedge
#

I am aware

#

quit with the semantics

#

I'm simply talking in terms of radiation exposure

hexed citrus
#

you quit with the bullshit you asspull

subtle hawk
#

???

hexed citrus
#

UV is NOTHING like ionizing radiation

rough sedge
#

they will both turn your skin red and give you cancer

subtle hawk
#

but they’re different right

hexed citrus
#

they're fundamentally different

rough sedge
#

I've been a pilot since I was 13 and live in a country with one of the highest rates of skin cancer, I'm quite educated on the subject through life experience alone

subtle hawk
#

wait what are you guys talking about?

rough sedge
#

obviously x-rays and UV are different but the type of damage they cause to your body is somewhat comparable, hence why people tend to compare them

rough sedge
subtle hawk
#

so it looks nice

hexed citrus
#

now ur talking bullshit

subtle hawk
#

aircraft is white because idk

rough sedge
#

and why would that be?

subtle hawk
#

it helps with visibility?

#

well obviously you wouldn’t paint your plane black or red or smthn

hexed citrus
#

you need to be at least 16 for baloons and gliders and 17 for any powered aircraft to even have a chance at getting a pilot license

#

as per ICAO regulations

rough sedge
#

aircraft visibility cares more about finish than colour
when looking for other aircraft you're looking for sun glints and silhouettes.
Being shiny will get you seen, not being white

subtle hawk
#

oooh ok

#

white = shiny

#

most of the time

#

but planes are painted white because it’s easier

#

white reflects heat

#

and or something like that

#

it reflects something, and it helps with something

hexed citrus
#

yes it very much does reflect heat

subtle hawk
#

yes heat

hexed citrus
#

just like black absorbs it

subtle hawk
#

so planes won’t be black

hexed citrus
#

yeah they won't

subtle hawk
#

so it’s white because it’s better

#

ez

rough sedge
hexed citrus
#

but nothing stops you from painting it black

subtle hawk
#

yeah true

#

blacK

hexed citrus
#

there are some black planes

subtle hawk
#

so what’s your talk about Uv and exyray

subtle hawk
hexed citrus
subtle hawk
#

looks unsettling

hexed citrus
#

also some private jets are black too

subtle hawk
#

never seen a black plane in my life

hexed citrus
#

and I think air new zealand has like a couple black airliners?

subtle hawk
#

do you think a micro drone is able to fly higher than 500m

hexed citrus
#

but yeah they're incredibly rare

subtle hawk
#

yeah

#

i’ve seen illustrations on planes, but like

#

they’re still white

hexed citrus
subtle hawk
#

black and white

#

cool

rough sedge
subtle hawk
#

hey

#

let’s drop the topic

rough sedge
subtle hawk
#

it’s gonna get more and more heated

#

and that might not be the best

hexed citrus
#

no I just see that it's pointless to talk to a glider pilot that has literally no idea how the bigger aircraft operate

rough sedge
subtle hawk
#

overall i’d rate discord a 3/10

rough sedge
subtle hawk
#

10/10 as chat
-5 for having racists
-2 electron

hexed citrus
#

air new zealand did say that on the next repaint these black planes will become white again

rough sedge
#

I also hold certifications in Avionics and have experience with large aircraft

subtle hawk
#

ok but

#

why are you both arguing

#

what is there to argue about

rough sedge
#

Yamato argues with everyone on here lmao

subtle hawk
rough sedge
#

dude has some ego chip

#

it's whack

subtle hawk
#

?

hexed citrus
#

no I only argue with cunts

rough sedge
#

no offence, Yamato

subtle hawk
#

he’s sane last time i saw him

hexed citrus
#

and ignorant ppl

subtle hawk
#

only this morning i saw smthn off

rough sedge
#

I am a cunt that's right, Australia is full of good cunts

subtle hawk
#

Iris was kinda delayed in the mind this morning

#

he’s fine now

subtle hawk
#

mf deals with big ass spiders

#

if i had a gun i’d shoot one asf

hexed citrus
#

what if it got behind the fridge

rough sedge
#

but yeah sometimes you just gotta take the L and acknowledge that people know more than you about certain things

subtle hawk
#

shoot the damn fridge

#

get a new fridge

#

burn the house down

rough sedge
#

I wouldn't argue sysadmin shit with you

subtle hawk
#

move to a new country

rough sedge
#

because you have experience

subtle hawk
#

ah

#

humility is key then

hexed citrus
#

I admit I don't have much experience with ultralights and gliders but I do have a decent experience with turboprops

subtle hawk
#

why are consumer air filters so expensive? it’s confusing since it’s just a fan and a filter

#

turboprops are the big commercial planes right

#

or the engines in those big chunks

hexed citrus
#

no

subtle hawk
#

oh

hexed citrus
#

turboprops are literally planes with propellers

subtle hawk
#

so like

#

everything 💀

hexed citrus
#

that the engine of is turbocharged

rough sedge
subtle hawk
#

ooooh

#

turbocharged engines

hexed citrus
#

jet engines are their own separate category

rough sedge
subtle hawk
#

i’ll leave you guys be, but don’t get too personal

rough sedge
hexed citrus
#

ye it doesn't have a turbocharger strapped to it lol

rough sedge
#

yeah lmao

hexed citrus
#

but the general principle is the same

rough sedge
#

funny enough the only turboprop I have experience with is a big fucker AmagiHeh

hexed citrus
#

a Cessna 172 or

rough sedge
#

before my country retired the P3 Orion I got to have a few quick 30 minute stick sessions with it BuckyPrideAnim
As part of a government defence youth program my country does

hexed citrus
#

you weren't pilot in command now were you

rough sedge
#

it's just basic air-experience style stuff, they put you in the right-hand seat and get you to make some basic turns, climbs, etc

hexed citrus
#

ah so the kid stuff lol

rough sedge
#

lol yeah

hexed citrus
#

EASA would rip our heads off for putting children at the controls of any plane

rough sedge
#

I've also flown in the new Poseidon for a couple hours but obviously haven't got any time on the controls

hexed citrus
#

I should be getting my MEP next month so I'll get to add a dozen hours on those kind of aircraft

rough sedge
#

very good

hexed citrus
#

jets still outside of my reach

#

I'd still need the CPL and type rating

#

which is bullshit bcz CPL costs so much

rough sedge
#

CPL is one of those things I'll get eventually

#

when I have a spare $100k lying around

#

you know

hexed citrus
#

exactly

#

the jump from PPL with the ratings to a CPL is insane

#

not even gonna mention ATPL

rough sedge
#

yeah I'm perfectly fine with my GPC thanks

#

GPC lets me enter racing competitions and compete on a national level

hexed citrus
#

I got a PPL with NR, IR and now waiting on my scheduled MEP lessons to get that as well

rough sedge
#

I could get a PPL through an air force sponsorship but it's hard to find time that works on their terms

#

they do it in courses, you go away for a while, fly all day every day and come back with the qualification

hexed citrus
#

I got it mostly because we had a student discount for the full PPL course

#

and the ratings because they were relatively cheap

#

think 2-3k cheap

rough sedge
#

that sounds pretty good

#

PPL over here cost about $30k

hexed citrus
#

here it's 10k

#

but with the discount I paid 8k

rough sedge
#

yeah all kinds of flying is just expensive as shit over here

#

I think it cost like $350 an hour to rent a Cessna 172
I need to check what it was again

hexed citrus
#

I also tacked on the UAS (read drones) pilot license to the PPL so I can pilot the remote shit as well

#

yeah sounds about right, here it's about 200$ as well

rough sedge
#

I'm moving to the city soon, I think I'll get back into the powered pilot shit when I'm settled in there

#

get that sponsorship for a PPL and save up for a CPL

hexed citrus
#

here if u want a CPL you'll need to get a loan

rough sedge
#

yeah nah it's crazy expensive

#

you can either get a loan or pay as you go here

#

the CPL is broken down into different modules ranging from a couple hundred $ to a few thousand

#

and you just pay for each module individually

hexed citrus
#

yeah but it's still crazy expensive even broken into modules

#

like even with my ratings I still need a couple of other modules + Class 1 medical to get to CPL

#

and some of those modules are hella expensive

#

but there's a silver lining there

#

with the current pilot shortage you're bound to get a good job at a decent airline

rough sedge
#

funny story actually, I almost ruined my 20-20 vision record for my defence medical

#

my test was delayed by like 2 hours so I just sat there in the waiting room scrolling on my phone

#

because I had spent the last 2 hours staring at a bright, close brick in my hand everything on the far away test was blurry as hell

#

but I still just managed to make out all the letters

#

on the bottom row I couldn't differentiate a Q from a G so I guessed it and was correct

hexed citrus
#

I have 10/20 vision but I feel like my other medical records can bar me from getting a Class 1

rough sedge
#

ah okay

hexed citrus
#

well I'll know for sure once I go through with the check

rough sedge
#

I remember having to wait over a month for defence to sift through my entire medical history because of an injury I sustained when I was 5

hexed citrus
#

ye for Class 1 they go through your records with a fine toothed comb

rough sedge
#

in my interview they asked me if I had ever had any serious breaks or fractures and I said no, then they pointed to the huge scar on my arm and were like "so what's that for?" and I thought "ah shit"

#

I had completely forgotten about it

hexed citrus
#

Class 2 not so thorough

#

airline crew get the easiest one, Class 3

rough sedge
#

that would make sense

#

"are you gonna pass out and die? no, cool"

hexed citrus
#

p much

rough sedge
#

alright

#

time to reinstall Windows

#

I will be back some time later

subtle hawk
#

ok

ashen zodiac
#

I hope logitech is expecting people to sign up, get free chocolate, and then never show up to this zoom call lmao

subtle hawk
#

oh

#

lemme see rq

#

💀

ashen zodiac
#

This worth it?

subtle hawk
#

300 nits would be a drop for me

#

and the soldered ram

#

but for 900 bucks, it seems worth it

#

just remembe to switch out the 512gb ssd to 1tb

#

idk

ashen zodiac
#

Canadian dollars btw

#

So

#

$736 USD

hexed citrus
#

not too shabby

#

for that price seems fairly decent

ashen zodiac
#

I think they're trying to dump their inventory
