Honestly Mrwhosetheboss's take on MIUI 13 doesn't fare well with me
"not as corporate feeling"
?? what
also, commenting on how the UI is more "fun" and "colorful" when I find it more jarring and bloated (especially with the heavy amounts of personalization features that I don't really feel like it's necessary)
Also, no new Android 12 features included, like the more subtle and better theme engine and privacy dashboard, thus what a shame
Also, the Xiaomi 12S phone's more expensive than a good dedicated digital camera, like Sony's ZV-1, which pretty much has the same size sensor but better lenses, more pocketable and better in quality
i honestly wish good lock was included at stock but just me
people don't like using their other pocket
saying this as someone that has four devices with me on a daily basis
I do follow MrWhoseTheBoss for his reviews, but in this case, definitely not taking his Xiaomi review for granted
Like, it's a good phone definitely, but I definitely am not buying any Xiaomi phone in the next few years
cowards, if they don't want to use the other pocket, why not a bag, a purse, or a pouch? C'mon they got those
people need to understand the basics of balancing their budgets and accept that cramming every single feature into a phone does not make for a better experience in general (wait, did I just mean smartphones in general are bad influence in the first place?? what a hot take)
I could go on about this, but I'm having a hard time just rambling about people's need for skinny jeans instead of proper pants, so there
like
both my pockets are used up
i specially requested an extra watch pocket in my jeans once

i have an audio player and tablet and a ILC
cargo pants ftw
better late than never i suppose
Tech people not appreciating my trinitron
i had one of those
like
i thik
a model almost identical to that one
Why had
had to be replaced with a bravia
Whats a bravia
I don't think so, x86 is always top in raw performance, I believe each architecture has its adequate field.
It's absurd to have such thing as an architecture superiority.
x86 is dated
It's so old
made in 1978
there are definitely better alternatives to x86, raw performance wise
But backwards compatibility also matters
Does anyone here use the apple airpods pro with a Samsung phone?
ah yes benchmarks build to score x86 higher, absolutely valid argument /s
Well ye
ARM was made in 1985...
Also, an architecture evolves, a modern Intel processor is in no way the same as an Intel 8086.
I mean, in my opinion, it's quite fair to compare the best x86 CPU in the market to the best ARM CPU in the market, but what do you mean exactly by that?
that these benchmarks are made to score x86 higher
because comparing x86 and ARM is like comparing apples to oranges
Uhh what?
There's something you can always measure for example
Like the number of instructions per cycle.
that's is not a useful metric when comparing architectures
if I can do the same computation in 2 cycles while you need 8 but you have 4 times the speed what kind of comparison is that
But in my opinion x86 isn't dying anytime soon, and it's not bad either.
it's garbage
don't kid yourself
it has a ton of useless instructions and requirements from the stone age
"Useless instructions"???
I write low level code and I honestly don't know what you're talking about
Do you even know ARM nowadays is pretty much CISC
and I have a PhD in semiconductor engineering, tell me more about it
There's a ton of useless instructions in ARM too then
I'm not very sure, but certain there is
But something I don't like of ARM is how naturally closed it is
For example look at Android phones or at the M1
x86 is licensed by AMD and Intel
I'm not speaking about that
I'm speaking about how you can't change the hardware in a M1 or install a ROM in certain Android phones
what does that have anything with ARM
that's a design choice that is mostly enforced by software and firmware
not hardware
Well, ARM easily allows for that to happen, unlike x86 which is more standardized.
you can do the same thing with x86
it's just not economically viable to put so many components on the same die and risk more defects
because x86 components are gigantic compared to ARM
I don't think that's possible like it is in ARM, for example in ARM the manufacturer could just completely disallow the user from installing any different OS.

that has nothing to do with the architecture
I can forbid you from running a different OS on any laptop nowadays
because most modern CPUs have E fuses that you can use to detect and trip when someone goes outside of your target software
you write low level code, you should know this as it's part of the instruction set and in general the security enclave of modern processors
then even more so you should know this
as it's part of the core of most modern operating systems
you can get the documentation and guides from the main x86 manufacturers
in this case AMD and Intel
In computing, an eFuse (electronic fuse) is a microscopic fuse put into a computer chip. This technology was invented by IBM in 2004 to allow for the dynamic real-time reprogramming of chips. In the abstract, computer logic is generally "etched" or "hard-wired" onto a chip and cannot be changed after the chip has finished being manufactured. By...
Oh TIL
So it's pretty much like a ROM the processor can switch to at any time
Yeah I got both the developer manuals, I guess it's in the chapter 3 of the Intel one?
Or maybe in the basic architecture
I don't remember exactly in which chapter it is
Thanks for teaching me about it, I don't know much about how modern processors work internally.
they're extremely complex
And phone just went sayonara
S20 FE
Flagship btw
Guess I'll wait for the battery to die
Oh it's rebooting (?)
Rebooted at 3%
It lost 3% when malfunctioning
Only 1tb storage
So where am i supposed to buy PVM and or BVM CRTs?
Besides ebay
Where do people evem find these things
Id kill for a nice 20" PVM

Yeah those
Interestingly since a lot of consumer TV here can accept RGB/YPbPr signal, PVM is not that much an improvement
Still sold at around $200 tho
Dont you need to modify them for the RGB signal?
Apparently the trinitron i have has YPbPr input idk if it actually does anything
You can convert RGB to YPbPr simply using external OpAmp
At least you don't have to mod your TV
My question wasnt really answered though
Where do people get PVMs to sell in the first place
With microcode and modern compiler, RISC/CISC distinction is rather moot
Most PVM here is from TV/production house block auction
We only plan to completely abandon analog broadcast recently, so the (potential) stock is still abundant
block auction, so unless you plan to buy hundred of them in one lot then probably wait for some broker to resell
Everyone resells them super expensive
Not that there's any chance it'll be given to non- well connected employee anyway
anybody know why windows search doing that
it's probably indexing something
get an ssd
That's very old lol
yeah someone give the pc to him
He didn't use the pc for something heavy just office stuff and meet
only this thing buggin me
That's Windows Search indexing. Just let it do its thing
too many junk
maybe format the whole disk and do clean install
still a good practice anyway for 2nd hand, slow or not
i was still using a sandy bridge chip till this year so
Tbf I was on 4th gen till earlier this year too. But like, at least it's an i7
8th gen still
mine was a sandy ep so
it outlived its peers by far
and is still alive
bless it
even though it was pumped to 4.5

seems legit
@versed blade
nice
what were you planning to do with it?
Using it for daily use. And maybe configuring it as a nas at the side

cuz using my gaming pc for work is uh
waste of power
since my gpu at idle is already using 45 watts
now it doesnt even use a gpu just a adapter
Did have to tinker with the fanprofiles though. The mobo thought 1800rpm on the fan was normal
ah I see
my room is like boiling hot due to me keeping the pc on all the time
and basically never on idle
get a nuc like me
was planning on installing memu and trying to run al on it but
google protect
is beinga bitch
gonna wait for Raptor Lake nuc if anything
build your own
mine was like 550 euros i think for all the components?
45 for case, 13 bucks for the cooler, 260 for the cpu 90 for mobo, 60 for the ram and uh 20 for the adapter
oh and 50 for the ssd
nvme
has lower tdp
hmmm would have preferred i3 12400
I guess yeah
ah yeah everyone buying it
it's a good cpu
12600 it is
also
i went with the T
because
12400 and 12600 non t's
have a default tdp of 65w
and the t has a default tdp of 35
lil bit less performance but cooler
Now I at least outdo hp's and dell's nucs

but now the important part. How well can it run AL

Hmmmm
might be interesting
i have to resist though

for next gen intel / amd u mean?
assuming it'll stay on the 1700 socket i can upgrade ig if i want
more like I wanna save some cash for a new phone
spend less on figurines then
maybe
i managed to record a 9000+MB/s rate once
i think ive noticed coil whine once on my new hardware
but the most annoying sound tends to be the pumps

the only sound i hear is the ssd
so im gonna put a heatsink on it to cool it down " and hopefully muffle the sound "
yeah idk it's like a little electrical noise
it doesnt make it when i dont have the ssd in it
Most SSD use encapsulated coils, how it even managed to whine?
Some MLCC do exhibit piezoelectric effect, but that would be weird if it actually noticeable outside anechoic chamber.

soo with taxes it will be here like 1100-1200USD
just nope

4k 120hz+
The fuck apparently the CMOS can make noise too?
How? do you mean MOSFET?
the battery or the connector. Idk I just plugged in a sata powercable and suddenly it started whining very loudly. Only when im in the bios though
and when i was browsing quickly through the bios the sound would disappear for a little second everytime ibrowsed through it
since it's a mini-itx it isn't plugged in the board but via a cable
not really whining on the ssd more like ticking
inb4 pc blows up

Im building a sorta budget pc build but i cant decide on a graphics card
Ive narrowed my choices to the RTX 2080 RTX 3060 TI or a RX 6600 XT
I originally wanted a 2080 ti but the blowers are the only "cheap" ones and even then theyre 450$
Any other suggestions would be apreciated too
@worthy musk I assume you could find those at a used market, but whatever's worth, try finding a 3060Ti
especially, on lower prices
Just beware of modded BIOS, lol
this market smh
but if neither of the options are affordable, try buying a non Ti/XT model
Worst case scenario, any GTX 1660 card would be your last resort
But, Worst worst case scenario (because bs like this can happen on certain markets), then... good luck with an RX 6500
Or worse, an RX 6400, or a 1050 Ti
At GT 730 level, you'll start to see why sometimes intergrated graphics may be the best option after all
3060s are expensive and the 2080 seems a bit better
But its older and has some overheating issues
there were some instances of blower style 2080s with aftermarket gpu cooler replacements in it
you just take apart the whole blower style cooler, put in a better one
If you can find a decent 2080 or 2070 blower style cards, and then find coolers like an Arctic Accelero Xtreme for a decent price, and maybe extra heatsinks for vram, that'll be better
do note, the mod can make the GPU taller than usual, check your case for compatibility
For all that trouble i could just get a external fan 2080
3060 is more efficient especially in RT
So you set up the bomb
With budget you mean budget PSU too right? How much watt will your PSU have? Make sure what the peak spikes can be with those 30 series cards and what Nvidia is recommending
TFW my friend got scammed out from buying laptop w/ RAM upgrade
Turns out they use bulk Samsung RAM with crap timing, I'm not even sure if it's genuine or even cost any more than the original RAM
well it might have meant they got two sticks instead of one
which would have been better due to how channels are
Im using a 650w psu

i am using last 15.6 beta
soo 16 soon
i can install 16 but i will w8 for official beta
Ah ok should be fine
Rams cheap AF nowadays wouldn't buy a laptop specifically cuz it has a lot of ram
I went a trip down memory lane and used an iPhone 6 last night and damn.. I should give iOS a chance again in future, not very soon though, still rocking Android
only ddr5 is not cheap

Because ddr5 is new
Did I said something wrong?

When it becomes common prices will go down
No just my bias

Oh don't get me wrong, my bias towards Android is still strong

i only buy 1.5 year ago top iphone bc i wanna try what apple fans say
u need feel it
and i try it

This is our first Intel Arc GPU benchmark & review (other than the DG1) for a true gaming desktop video card from Intel. The Arc A380 competes with the AMD RX 6400 closest, maybe the GT 1630 (we'll see), and aims to be a $130-$150 card. The A380 launched only in China at first, b...
buahahah
looks like igpu amd is better than this intel gpu crap
and?
not like ryzen was being anything when it came out lmao
the software implementation is garbage as expected for a initial release
but the hardware does have the capabilities
yee i know
its just looks like gta 5 dont like soft for this gpu
other games works better
If it was me I'd rather buy barebone and kit out from there
The problem here is that the seller probably pocket the decent stock 4GB sodimm and swap out for two crappy 4+8GB sodimm (yes, it's asymmetric), for the full price of the 2 stick
Problem is that lower end discrete GPU in general are pretty whack right now both in performance and price. It's hard to compare.

Just get a good 2nd hand laptop at that point doesn't have to be a lot of ram. Just a decent screen battery and CPU. Since you can upgrade the RAM/ ssd anyways (in most laptops)
I mean, I can upgrade them even if they're soldered

I found a 27 inch flatscreen trinitron but i couldnt get it by myself

Its literally 100 pounds
Wait i dont need a higher wattage?
650 should be fine, as long as you don't overclock, or your PSU isn't that old
Apparently a 3060ti only uses 200 watts with peaks of 400
My 3080 has higher peaks. Hence why I've a big 1000w PSU to be safe
Pretty sure those peaks are only relevant to the 3000 series. But I think 2080 needs 750? What CPU are you using
Probably a ryzen 5 5600x
How come
650W is a lot of power, lol
It wasn't that long when 750 is considered high power
Make sure it's good quality 650W PSU tho
Crappy one might start to lose regulation well before reaching power limit, and old PSU gradually degrade too
I mean if you oc it it'll use more power and the peaks will be higher too
Idk how much the card will use. since not every card draws the same amount. It depends on the games too. Ig if you stresstest it with furmark or run heavens benchmark and look how much wattage it's using you can get a idea how much the card will draw.
My 3080 already draws at least 240 and that's like on half load.
ive never seen my GA102 record more than 365W
i sometimes just drop the power limit if the game isn't that heavy
So... just go with a bettet psu?
what does this mean to me if i haven't read the article
ironSource is a well known company that distributed malware
through their installers
to the point they have a dedicated entry in the antivirus and anti malware dictionaries of signatures
this is the software they came under fire for
lately tho, they have been making acquisitions left and right, and their current product is a platform to implement ads in games and track revenue
the fact that unity is the major engine for indie devs that's free to use, and publish, it could mean that iron puts their grabby little hands on whatever unity game, like say, change the ToS forcing devs to use ironsource's services for their revenue on their mobile game

Let's wait UB's take on alchemist
what's better, LibreOffice or Microsoft Office?
Microsoft Office, without a shadow of a doubt, because I'm biased towards it personally
LibreOffice is free, however, the mere thought of seeing that UI which screams Office 2003 and is stuck in the past makes me cringe
i don't mind about the UI
transferring to LibreOffice because I used to use... external means.
and i would like to inquire if LibreOffice is worth the switch rather than relying on these external means
I won't mention how exactly I got Office 2021 for cheap (don't want to get bonked), but let's just say that I didn't pay full price for it
office is superior in any way shape or form
went to PCMR discord for questioning, i'm now content
There's no contest about it, but does it worth the full retail price? Ehh...
agree. it's a pain to import it via "external means", but libreoffice can do for my usecase as a student
Anyway, MAK/GVLK keys are openly sold and MS pretty much don't care about it
As long as you're not business/gov of course
it's not sold as a license
it's sold as a subscription
and yes the subscription is worth as a student
I thought it was the O2021 from the context
office wasn't sold standalone since win 7 era
Office 365 is subscription based. Office 2013, 2016, 2019, 2021 can be purchased for a hefty price and it's 1 machine per license basis, can be used indefinitely
old PC that my sister now uses has O365, from school
i used that computer for my education
mow that i am using another PC
Office 2021 is still sold standalone, and afaik still available globally too
Indeed
It retails at about $120 here, which is about half month minimum salary
suffice to say no one bought retail
I sure as hell didn't, ain't spending over $20 for MS Office suite

what android emulators do you guys recommend?
in general, not specifically for azur lane
fuck that I'm staying far away from W11 for now

you're missing out
but ye, bluestacks is strong
if you have a good system that is
nah I like not having random compatibility issues
been using w11 since it was leaked over a year ago
never had any issues
I have a friend whose laptop came with W11 and he'll sometimes have games stop working randomly
I'd rather not deal with that bullshit
i dont think thats a win11 issue tbh
but eh, cant comment without taking a look at the logs of the crash
no I don't mean that they crash
they straight up just don't open
if it was crashing I wouldn't be so quick to blame it on W11
thats even more strange
worst part is because the laptop came with W11 he can't downgrade to W10
i spearheaded win11 testing for my enterprise. and we have some old ass legacy apps that date back to the early 2000s. and even those ran without a hitch.
doesnt launch at all is different from the process starting and then dying without making a peep
if is the former, maybe some sort of registry error or the launcher not pointing to the correct .exe
the 2nd one is a crash
idk I'd have to ask him in more detail
regardless I won't be touching W11 for a long while
nah I really don't like what I've seen of the UI
ye, a lot of people feel that its too modern and a huge step away from the old ui style of windows
but eh, i like pretty things
I think the taskbar looks like shit
I just need to order a stupid ass tpm 2.0 module and i'm game for win 11
idm man, looks great to me
just upgrade to 13th gen in a few months

reminds me of a mac and I hate that
I don't feel like spending more money than i need to rn
this i agree
wise choice
I have a deep distaste for all apple products
part of it is the fact I'm a programming student, part of it come from a couple of really insufferable high school classmates who happened to be apple shills
oh ye those lmao
they just cant stand the fact they paid more $ for a worse platform
one of them straight up missed a third of the school year because he also had a job
but credit where its due, the m1 macbook air is amazing value
and then he would come to class, sit in front of his fucking mac and not pay attention and then complain about how the education system sucks
everyone in my class including some professors found him insufferable
I use LibreOffice for personal stuff, if I ever need to use MS Office, I can just use the web version that's free
your work doesnt give you a license?
pirating shit are we
also fuck windows 11
I want my taskbar at the top
I thought someone'd created a patch for that?
Fair enough. Wonder how long they'll make folk wait.
Why pirate when you can just not register it and still works fine, mostly
I wanna do a custom wrap for a pc case but idk what would even look good
more like the best style

also can't believe they didnt migrate cmd to terminal as default yet
Indeed. Ew
i think has like
3m vinyl on it
but it's just for colour
though there's also paint..
Today I learned a antenna is basically mandatory is you've a ssd on top of your wifiadapter
High frequency lines rarely play nice with each other
yep
yeah bought a antenna for it
wait, by adapter did you meant a mPCIe module?

yes? what did you think i meant
like a usb adapter should work out of the box
m.2 key e
the fuck did you think not using antenna on radio devices
yes?
4 bars
Bought a asustor nas and big drive
but I dont think I will buy them lol
i know
my hdd cost in total like 1k or so

good thing it wasn't high power TX then, it could literally burn due to bad SWR
waitwot
also the other one
where it works without the antenna
is uh
z690 gaming wifi e from asus

welll technically it has a antenna already connected it just doesn't have the addon antenna on it
here
this but without the antenna
well, that's at least terminated

never leave RF unterminated

are you saying i should still connect it?
yes
bruh, just disable it then
i could
never thought it could do any harm though
wifi adapters are my only weakness
the cable itself should be enough, but why wouldn't you put actual antenna?
definitely never leave it without at least the cable connected tho
you can also buy pigtail antenna that connect directly to the module I guess if there's non-metallic window in the case
Can't it's nuc size

That reminds me to maybe go ahead with my not-quite-sober plan to put pfSense and trueNAS on those aliexpress-special N5105
wcgw

aren't 2.5 inch ssds usually in a metal shell
the kind that would soak up a wifi signal

i thought about doing that
i just have like
3M vinyl wrap on for colour
but there's paint on one panel
it's a m.2
there is a m.2 key e under a m.2 slot

2.5" are plastic nowdays
not that the PCB itself won't mess up with radiation pattern anyway
all of mine
even this cheapo brand korean one
are metal

samsung, intel, kingston and adata ones are definitely metal still
you definitely get plastic on bargain bin brands like neo forza, klevv, vgen etc
those bargain bins are basically what's left in 2.5" market here, since almost everyone with a little bit more money usually go straight to m.2
outside of console/prebuilt/laptop parts ofc
those drives are so much eaiser to carry than m.2s
metal feels more robust and safer to take with you
i guess it's a niche use case
mine have all been samsung
apart from a crucial or two
but that cheapo tammuz is also metal
even the external USB 3.2 one i got from them as a bonus item has a metal shell
crucial has a pretty good reputation
I use samsung for desktop but other storage devices like for phones I use sandisk/wd
I never actually deal with 2.5 ssd
Pretty much went straight to m.2
m.2s were expensive

if i want to install another 2.5 inch drive at this point i'm going to have to stick it with tape

that's why my first one was basically 64GB boot drive
can't tell if that's even a computer at that point
my first was 128GB
it had windows and like
a few bare essential programs on it

wait, it might be actually mSATA

there's so much wiring at the back
it's like that homer meme
if one of a set of fans on a daisy chain/splitter
stops over a certain PWM %
does that mean there's a connection problem or
is there something weirder
they're all the same and running off a single header via either daisy chain or splitter i'm not sure
probably y-splitter daisy chain
it's a set of four
for some reason one of them stops over a certain %
maybe like 80% or something on the slider
it works perfectly normally at anything under that like the rest
all fans on the chain are the same model
it's probably a problem in that particular fan
daisy chained fans should all receive the same signal
in fact it isn't even actual daisy chain since all of them are parallel
if you mean have i tested it separately
the cable jumble is too much and they tucked its cable in behind something and i don't want to fiddle with it too much
that's what i'm assuming
the weird part is it has full normal operation up to that PWM %
and can actually be PWM controlled accordingly
i'm not exactly sure how they're connected but i'd assume it's the included noctua splitter
iirc those noctua fans come with a y splitter for chaining
pwm receiver glitch all the time
I mean, even a hundred bucks industrial servo do that all the time
there are like
what
10 fans in total
so i guess
one being flaky isn't exactly unusual odds i suppose
9 fans off the same header is definitely out there tho
why not create zones
there's seven A12x25 chromax and two industrial PPC F12s
three on top on one header
four in front on one header
one of the four in the front is the one being weird
there's also an A14 on the rear mount on its own header
that hardline is disgusting
bruh
fuck it, void* everything
typedef void *any;
are cctv crts any good?
