that is just the wrong mentality
I see it as, if you have tons of money and keep them sparse around the house, if they get stolen that on you for not keeping them safe
sure $300 is fuck ton
I bought a product from a company I want after purchase service that doesn't make it not economically viable to service it afterwards regardless of what happened to it
again I agree, but what's the point of complaining if you crashed it and did not put any effort in taking care of it?
ramzh accidents happen
It's pretty much both parties fault
again they do
but you can do the utmost to prevent them
if I fall off my bike for example and the phone hits the pavement in my pocket with all my weight on top and it shatters and breaks
it shouldn't be my fault
I can assure you been using devices ranging from consoles to phones to laptop etc and none of them have a mark
if you buy a good case and screen protector you should be fine
I should be able to go into a store where they'll replace the damaged parts ONLY and I pay for ONLY those parts + labor
not have to replace my entire device
I agree
this is just the way it is, I'd try my best not to end up in that situation
by using cases and screen protectors
only thing I wanna go to the apple store for is the battery replacement
that's it
like if samsung tried to push a replacement on me I'd roast them too because I want my current phone that I paid for to be fixed not to give me a new one that will not retain my old data + I have to pay extra on top for it
Ooooor you can stop caring about the device, in this case me with my OnePlus 8 Pro, and start throwing it around because you're replacing it anyways. Really don't care if it cracks at this point, nobody buys used OP phones where I live, or hell they barely sell brand new lmao
I agree
I rarely dont care of my unused stuff
because "eh I'll just throw it away"
Ask me if I give a fuck my dude
you should
No, I won't
Especially in this country where I live
And don't try to change something that can't be changed here
I mean, that's fine that you will not, but you should
that ain't an excuse to not at least try to contribute to a good thing
Again, ask me if I give a fuck my dude
rome didn't fall overnight
sure you can be selfish but this kind of mentality is why this is such a big issue
btw these are all the phones that are still supported with in stock replacements, albeit limited the older the device is
this tbh
Well you see, I only care about myself and not really others, because why care about randoms at this point
we as individuals will never make a difference, but by us not being indifferent to it will slowly bring change, not immediately but after years or decades
it's not caring about randoms
it's caring about the space rock you and your family lives on
if you wanna throw away your "functional" phone just give it away to someone or give to companies that will recycle it
all the major brands Apple, Samsung etc do that
We've got bigger issues than e-waste, let me tell you that. It's going to be one cold winter because of the current political situation and gas (No I don't mean gas as in petrol, gas as in actual gas)
So yeah, got better things to worry about than hurr durr e-waste crap
You have more impact on eWaste than the current events, as that is something in your control
it's not crap if in the next 20 years you'll need a hazmat suit to go outside
Don't have to go outside then, there's always a choice
I am just saying you can worry as much as you want, but ain't gonna change anything on those situation
or at least a high density filter mask
meanwhile being mindful with your e-waste etc has a small impact and most importantly is something you can have control over
I am just giving you logical facts, you're free to do whatever
almost all of my olders phones have either been given away to people that needed a new phone due to their older one not being functional or sold to companies to use as testing devices or for spare parts at a repair shop
the rest I kept for my own uses
same here
No way I am throwing away something functional
reason why I still love being able to use my new fresh OP7P

Lineage OS saves stuff
I still have my S10+ that I use for testing different things and experiments with more traditional hardware and display sizes
I'm more mindful of my upcoming cost for a car service, not so much about e-waste because, again, I have better stuff to worry about. Because I also like to deflect logical reasons and have it go my way and not have people change my mind, just because they think they have the need to do so, I'll just say thank you for your contribution, but I literally do not give a fuck. Don't try to change my opinion, I'll just block you on general principle.
So yes, I'm selling this OnePlus 8 Pro for parts or throwing it away, because I can do that and not have someone on Discord bs me with their stance on something. Not to mention that I refuse to order new parts for this phone, because it has been nothing but constant disappointment, so why bother fixing a charging issue than buying something else. It's my free will and I will not have anyone take it from me
So yes, have fun starting a rally about eWaste and all that hot Twitter topic garbage, I literally do not give a fuck. Moving on
it's not hot twitter topic garbage
it's a real issue
just as real as people scrapping cars because their lithium battery doesn't hold a charge
or people throwing away a perfectly working washing machine because the door lock got jammed and won't properly close
yeah it's BS because people can't see the impact therefor it doesn't exist
air doesnt exist either

I cant see it
same like the english language
I dont see it so I cant read it
it's the same as the chip shortage, they don't care till the prices for iphones or playstations skyrocket
lmao true
then they complain that hurr durr y so expensive
Thankfully I got mine on time, so don't honestly care for the price increase
Scalpers on the other hand are rejoicing
If anything, I'm expecting Xbox sales to jump up a bit, because Microsoft has stated that they're not going the same route as Sony in terms of price increase
Yeah probably
I should get a Series S at some point for Game Pass alone, so best of both worlds. Not in a rush to get Series X considering it's โฌ600-650 where I live
what's so funny
swapped my 2080ti fans

There's also an UwUfetch, and HentaiFetch.
I did that on my 1080 ti after I broke 2 blades
it was rattling like crazy
now it's dead quiet
Yup
thats it my 2080ti now
DEAD quiet
god I love it
never gonna use it again at 100% 24/7 lol
although GPU have been dropping

I didn't know gpu fans break that often
They're rather flimsy all things considered, and those plastics are heated more than a "normal" fan would
they not as flimsy as any other fan
it's just that over time the bearings inside of them break or get dry causing friction that will further degrade performance
They do if you run your GPU 100% all the time and/or use a air blaster to clean them without holding them firm
Maybe just because my reference point is delta/ebm fans. There's definitely more play with it.
I bought a Portable PlayStation 2 that has real PS2 hardware built in, but...is it any good? In today's episode we take a closer look!

Saw a couple of these before and yeah.. impressive but it's a chungus of a console considering it's real PS2 hardware "under the hood"
if it can run shadow of the colossus as good as a regular ps2, then its fine
I mean it runs exactly how the PS2 version would run, it's actual PS2 hardware, and not emulation
Meaning 10-15 fps for SotC
Speaking of this
I have a dillema
Im about to build a pc with like a Ryzen 7 5800 but im tempted to wait on the 7000 series
Should i
amd ๐ฎ
TDPs are higher huh
Ryzen 3 would be so nice
my mom is still using an am1 socket 2c/2t apu
ryzen 3 5300g exists, but it's only for oems, which is disappointing
gotta push the clocks
it might be worth waiting a few more months for the release of am5 so that am4 cpu prices drop
as long as performance-per-watt is up, the tdp isn't something I'm really bothered at
you can always just undervolt the cpu
they probably only raised the tdp to compete with intel anyways
5700 isn't half bad if you need a PCnow
Instead of 5800
That didnt answer my question
pretty sure we did
ryzen 5000 series is great, but since it's at its end, you won't have many upgrade paths
while if you do decide to wait until 7000 series come out, you'll have more opportunities to upgrade on the same socket
I think 5700X is plenty for most people, even the 5600 non-X holds up against multi-threaded tasks
AM4 is at the end of it's path for sure, but beware of early adopter tax for AM5
if you're gaming, then you're not going to see much performance improvement going from 5600 to 5700X though
I don't really do much cpu loaded tasks on a day-to-day basis so I don't have much reason to go pay more for a 5700X
as for gpu, the value of the rx 6000 series will probably drop quite a bit after the rx 7000 series comes out
and 6000 series is still kind of overpriced
going on vacation is cheaper than a 64gb stick
Interestingly AMD use the term "TDP" in the more correct thermal engineering sense here, instead of alluding to power consumption.
My granite table have like 5kW TDP
I need Ryzen 9 7900X 3D V-CASHE
no you don't
They will do this version later
TDP XD
its is not true info about how much cpu can eat
i have old i7 9gen
unlocked all turbo
and in some benchmarks can eat like 260W
only cpu
with rtx 3070 is ok
what are you going to do with this said 7900X3D
you can find pretty good deals on used xeon or epyc cpus on ebay or something
that works great until you get a call from software vendor with draconian "enterprise" licensing
X3D is for gaming
i know old xeon is popular here
for gaming too
i build pc with old 8 core xeon for my friend
works great
ohhh for gaming
then you probably won't need a 7900X3D (if it will even ever exist)
you're going to be GPU bound 99% of the time
your money will be better spent on a higher tier gpu
there isn't much of a performance difference between 5600 and 5700X for gaming, and going from 5700X to 5800X is probably even less of a difference
so then the logical answer to why 5800X3D's performance is better in some games is probably because of the 3D v-cache
so if AMD does decide to release a ryzen 5 varient of the 3d v-cache, it's much more reasonable to buy that instead
looking at AMD's roadmap for 3d v-cache cpus, it would be weird if they only decide to release only one of them for AM5
but if you do a lot of multi-threaded workloads, then your hypothetical 7900X3D might be useful in some programs like adobe premier
but a lot of other programs benefit more from faster clock speeds than more cache
though it'll probably be very expensive, so buying a used server cpu makes more sense in that regard
just.. don't pay for more than you need
i dont need it myb some ppl need xD
This exists. So we're taking a look at it.

reminds me of this video
this is peak gamer mousepad
@hexed citrus yoo can i ask abou infinix hot 12 is it good ??
seems aite for a really budget phone
@gloomy tinsel ok so
Heres what i found
Redmi 10A 4/64 or hot 12 play nfc 4/64
I just regret buying oppo f9
The os isnt stable i cant even fucking use the finger lock anymore and the camera always quit itself
Does infinix 12 hot play nfc have gyroscope
most Helio G80/G95 doesn't but some have em
DONT!!!!
this crap phone have fake camera
xiaomi is 100x better
OS is laggy af
they use f... emmc in phone
just dont
They entered our market this year
and bought reviews of small youtubers on youtube
but one tech youtuber do real test of this crap
and hahahaha
He do test Infinix HOT 11S NFC
Camera crap af
OS laggy af
meh screen
Redmi 10C not even in the contention here?
How about the 10c
Can i ask whos this youtuber
If you can afford the difference I'd pick 10c, no contest there
heck, the difference is only 20 bucks at most
He is from poland no eng subs
just dont buy phone with emmc
JUST DONT!
I'm more concerned by its unisoc cpu, but that's probably just me being paranoid
Personally never even heard of the company, so if I were you, I'd go with some known brand
ME2
but i saw this video
The brand was created after the acquisition of the French company Sagem Wireless in 2011
Remember Sagem

Infinix Mobile is a Hong Kong-based smartphone company founded in 2013 by Transsion Holdings. Future xD
we have like in official shops
The cheapest
105usd
The most expensive 200USD
just buy used phone
It's infamous here for cheap phones that looks expensive
Which is probably what most buyers here need anyway
naah, it's what you pick if you want one that looks like having a gazilion pixel cameras
you see from afar it looks impressive
๐
Budget Samsung
๐
Cant buy samsung
Redmi is all you need
@ebon mason how about real me ??
1 shop
now looking at Infinix phones specs I can't shake my suspicion that they're phones someone make just to get rid of old component stocks. It managed to be.. wanting in all
Here too
with Samsung having the big majority
But realme boost af in last year
Any good for real me ??
followed my Apple and Xiaomi in the minority
noone use google crap pixel what we dont have official shops here
only some big shops buy pixels from googole and sell with own warranty
- 40% price

because it costs that much to import it
20% VAT + shipping + handling + warehousing + warranty + profit margin
23% vat here
it adds up quickly
xD
same thing
You can buy a Pixel phone here, but good luck trading it in or selling it. No one wants them lol
(Where I live I mean)
it's not fair to compare US and EU prices because at the end of the day you'll pay close to that price for just getting it from the US
sure you can get it even cheaper directly from the factory but good luck with the logistics of getting it from the factory into your hands

[SONY XPERIA 5 IV REVIEW]
Back in May, I called Sonyโs Xperia 1 IV โAn Entire Film Studio In Your Pocket.โ The trouble is โฆ itโll cost nearly $1600 when it finally launches in the U...
Spoiler alert: it's heat.. AGAIN
The biggest irony of the situation: Sony just doesn't use any copper heat pipes at all
They assume thermal putty and its own metal frame will do
But they were not only wrong, they never cared anyway, they've repeated the same mistake on multiple Xperia phones
Genius phone design
Wtf is sony
the company that makes this novel thing
called the playstation
not a lot of people heard about it
How do you not know sony
And not just PlayStation but it's also TVs, headphones, cameras, soundbars, portable speakers
But yeah, not hearing about Sony is a bit of a
moment
But anyways, Sony cannot seem to hit the mark (no pun intended) with Xperia. Like, the series exists but.. it's not selling well from what I can tell
I only know PlayStation and for xperia i only imagine its not real
Xperia line by Sony has been around since 2008
It's not something just from last year really
Nah i dont accept xperia existence
My First Smartphone Sony Ericsson Xperia X1
it was first xperia
with fucking Windows Mobile

The most popular was SONY ERICSSON XPERIA X8

Poland
Lenovo = Motorola etc
Xperia Z and Z3 have same problem with overheat in 4k videos xD
But Iphone 12 Pro Max is the same
Overheat in gaming af
They actually tried with the Z5s
https://www.slashgear.com/sony-xperia-z5-using-dual-heat-pipes-to-curb-thermal-woes-07402240/
and do screen brightness at 30%
... only to forget about putting heatpipes in Xperia XZ phones
Sony is already a slowly dying phone maker since Japan's Galapagos syndrome bit them in the ass
About the only Sony phones that actual sell
old used here
I'm using sony xz2 compact
its 90$ xD
it works, but it doesn't support 4g and above connections
oh no MediaTek Helio P22
The most popular in website like amazon here is
in 30 days 504 phones
i remeber when i buy first xiaomi it was in 2016
Xiaomi Mi5
Xiaomi wasnt popular here in 2016
but they enter the polish market in 2016
i buy in china for mi5 version 64gb for 235 USD
When they enter to poland official price was 400USD
but 235USD was without taxes etc
We have 23% tax here
Xiaomi is one of the biggest smart phone manufacturers in the world! But... do they design a solid phone? They are well known for their high end components, but low prices. After watching this video, you'll understand a bit more about how they keep their prices so low.

I think it still have the best sound out of all my phones so far
I'm not missing its firmware reliability tho, had to reflash like half dozen times back then when I was still using it
850i was probably one of the best SE phones overall of all time
i really wanted a W900i though

so... apologies for that.
got any recommendations for long-lasting mice?
none
they all die within 3 years
the only way to prolong it is to replace the mouse switches
which I'm about to do on my G pro wireless

what's the cpu you're getting
ryzen 7 5800
My Razer orochi V2 died in 3 months Lmao

now buying fantech XD7 aria
tried it for 2 days
i have a terrible and dumb idea
i want to build a sleeper but i dont really own any power tools for cutting and drilling holes
so how would i go about this
depends on what you're trying to do
most cases, even decade old ones, mostly use standardized form factors like atx or microatx
so you shouldn't have too much trouble building in them, with the exception of maybe gpu clearance and ram clearance
I guess airflow is a concern
you could probably make do with an noctua industrial fan at full speed
dont really care if it sounds like a jet engine as long as it works and still looks cool
sounds like a bad investment
you want something that looks cool? 3D print an open air case
If you know the right guys, there's a lot of machining shops (or heck, even auto body shops) willing to punch and bend some dinky sheet steel for you

those look awful what
how come
then go borrow some power tools
and expect to spend a lot of time tweaking, measuring, cutting, drilling and such
sleeper builds are generally meant to be showcase pieces, not daily drivers
Isnt it the same for open air
I can't gonna take the sleeper civic with 1400HP out to daily commute
no it's not
open air means you only hold the parts together with a loose frame and that's it
1400HP with or without the stickers?
with hentai stickers
But theyre also exposed parts
so what if they're exposed
Think
Ah, also needs the shopping list (Brembo, NOS, etc.) on the side fender for extra hp
And autozone scoops
the benefit of a open air system is that you don't need to worry about airflow
And its also exposed parts
having terrible airflow is something you'll have building in a office case
again, so what if the parts are exposed
A test bench is not a case
you don't need a case for the computer

just buy some good cheap case and live with it
Im definitely buying cheap
Good? Well we will have to see
If i find something with front and side airflow i think i could make due
just go to a local electronics or pc parts store, sort by price ascending and find a case that fits your components and call it a day
No local places
now that is
Literally
there's always some sort of retailer that sells computer parts
Not close
maybe not within walking distance but definitely online or within driving distance

Im pretty sure i know where i live better than you do
But since youre so wise please tell me where
Is it that baffling to you that someone who lives in a small town in the south cant just go to a microcenter and buy all the parts
No but taxis/Uber/buses exist though for daily commuting
even if it's a 4 hour drive, not like you're driving there every day for parts

either that or order online, whichever is cheaper
Online like i was already going to do
and no need to be a smartass
Bo need to be rude about things in the first place
"i dont live near a part store"
Doubt
I know where i live dont call me a smartass
near doesn't mean a 10 min drive
anyway, you've been given options now and before
and yeah I also need to drive 2 hours to a local pc parts store and I'd call that near
You ain't wasting an entire fuel tank for a 4 hour trip, unless you're rocking a pickup truck or some other gas guzzler
I am
lmao.. I heavily doubt that
My car averages like 12 mpg on premium
Thanks lexus
Thanks for making it get terrible gas milage and making it run on premium
As long as i compensate for the bad airflow it should be fine though right?
Luckily I average 50 mpg because Europe, so don't need a Lexus
I really dont wanna go with a black and acrylic rgb gaymer case
some coolers are huge, and those might not fit into the case
if you bought a big-er gpu, it might also not fit into the case
Yeah im worried im gonna have to modify and or take out the hard drive cage
both of which you can make up for usually with lower profile coolers, or single fan/dual fan gpu
I think the one im using is triple fan only i might wanna swap that out
about that case, the displayport/hdmi slot is hard to put in
you mean the IO shield?
there's like a thin metal bar above where you put the displayport or hdmi cable on the gpu
Okay theres a dual fan one but its much more expensive
I'm currently using a thermaltake versa h18, which I bought for $50, but it seems to be out of stock on all major retailers right now
it's a really nice case
Theres a certain thermaltake case id love to have but its been discontinued for years
And seems to be very rare
I do plan on trying to get a full tower case at the least
I have a phanteks p400 with a mesh front
H18 also has a mesh front panel
I picked out some newer cases before but itll take a bit to dig them up
And id prefer to use a retro case
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811197017 this ones literally a IBM/Lenovo case
I bought half the parts i need
5800x, 16gb of ram, 650w 80+ bronze power supply and a cheap 2 tb hdd
If he's going to use OS on it, then gg. Otherwise, SSD all the way
Sometimes you do need those bulk for "warm" storage where you don't really want to cloud it
I cant afford ssd bulk storage
I just finished most of the build and im 100$ over budget
Without a case
tax does catch you surprised
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Hq2gC6 reasonably priced 1080p/1440p pc
PC Builder - AMD Ryzen 5 5600, Radeon RX 6600 XT, Thermaltake Versa H18 MicroATX Mini Tower
actually screw the 5700X
650 watt power supplies are designed to be able to support at least 650 watts power draw
all power supplies can handle a power spike
just don't overdo it else you'll trip OCP
Repeated spike is fine if it's actual spike, and not like 100ms-long overcurrent
a big enough spike will trip it even if it's for a split second
you probably need to check your build in the first place if that happen
If your PSU actually blows up doing its 100% rated wattage (or heck, anything below 120% rating), you probably should reconsider trusting that PSU or even the entire brand again.
the graphics card i have reccomends a 850w psu
but the estimated wattage of the build is like 450
The PS5 1200 model is surprisingly different

well, ill just try posting here then, and hope people dont bully me bcs im off-topic after all

im really impressed by the performance of the iPad with stage manager, managing 3 โfull-screen appsโ at the same time like this, while still running a game like genshin impact on about 60fps
stage manager seems pretty good, though a little finicky and buggy still
That's impressive for an iPad an all, but it's a glorified cutting board imo that can't make calls, and quite ironically, I still see no use for one besides using it as a cutting board or a door stopper
It can make videocalls, and also normal calls, use sms and other apps for chatting
As for creation, you can work on documents, manage e-mails, create professional drawings, do video-editing etc.
You can browse, play games, read books, manga, novels etc., watch videos
I personally also use it for language study, editing and adding detailed flashcards, while having dictionaries in an app open on multi-tasking.
All of which gain massive benefit from a larger, yet light device.
Many of those things are simply terrible, or impossible on a phone.
I am fairly sure you just "want to hate on it", but if you want, you can name me examples where you feel like the iPad is lacking for "practical uses". I'm especially curious for issues with non-professional workloads.
the expected reply. as my tldr says it at the end, you just wanna hate.
Of course, because Apple is terrible LOL
i have exactly 1 apple device, and use an android phone
you ignored what i wrote, all true things, and couldn't answer things that it is actually lacking in. i suppose this conversation is over with that.
You're not as dumb as you look.. that's exactly what I was going with so ๐
Moving on, because I don't like speaking to fanboys
well the newest ipads suffer from identity crisis
not quite an iphone while also not quite a macbook
a weird in-between that doesn't fill the needs of either niche
you make a good point. i get a lot of people saying this... but i don't think that at all.
I feel like people that want it to be a PC think it has an identity crisis.
People that want it to be an ipad... have an incredible device rn
ultimately it comes down if you actually "want a tablet"
when it has specs rivaling a macbook yet the software is not quite macOS yet apple keeps making it nore macOS like and add laptop like accessories
I get them, they don't want the ipad to eat into their macbook sales but at the same time they want it to be a macbook with a touchscreen
yeah... but i like it not being a computer, i like the easy and quick multi-tasking, since i am not looking to do most desktop workloads on it.
i suppose they could make an "optional" mac-OS option in the settings... but... i for example don't want it to be mac-OS... so it would really need to be "optional"
Exactly this. It's like trying to be both but ultimately fails in the end
i actually use that accessory (you speaking of the magic keyboard i think), and use it for language study, and even for simple things like microsoft office on the go. it works perfectly well. also great for quicker browsing and chatting, like on discord.
i don't feel like it is lacking at all for such basic tasks
one device that has hit that multitasking niche is the fold from samsung, you can use it as a phone but if you need the screen space you just unfold it and can fit a ton of apps on the main display
and when I'm done fold it back and it fits in the pocket
a nice device for sure! it is personally too bulky to me (and the screen scratches from fingernails)
I'd like to imagine Apple entering the fold market at some point, calling it innovation (as they always do, even though late to the party) and charging over a grand for it
i tested it myself in an online store- literally dented
was it the fold 2?
(it already had a bunch of scratches- so i added my own)
i should clarify- i used my fingernail to dig into the screen, like digging into an apple-peel with your nail (with the purpose of penetrating the peel)
and i dont think so. i think it was fold 1. you think it improved that much?
the 3 and 4 don't have that issue as I would've noticed it while daily driving it
and yeah you shouldn't do that, you press on it gently else you will dent it
the screen is soft and will take some abuse but not too aggressive
oh- i am pretty sure you would never test "what i did" on your phone. but its great to hear it improved. I would still test it in an online store, if it is already roughed up (sorry mediamarkt)
but yeah, you feel like i can talk decently with you, so what do you feel like it "lacking" on the ipad. not broad, but actual use-cases @hexed citrus
i hear people "it should be more like a pc" broadly... but i never hear anyone say "oh no- i couldn't do X or Y on the ipad!" (other than professional workloads)
here is an example case of split-screen + slide over.
using the dictionary entry automatically by copying the word into the clipboard. quickly using hyperlinks to instantly open google images with illustrations for editng the cards (safari will automatically open in that case)
i think it is an overall really nice editing experience, and helps a lot with language study
now having something like azur lane open doing auto-search in the background. While any other app can be open in the background.
and then just basic uses like reading manga (which is best on a 4:3 screen)
or watching videos in the background, while playing with the nintendo switch. things like these.
I am perfectly happy with the devices identity, and it does exactly what i want it to do. Though I do understand that that's different for every person.
the issue I find with the ipad isn't from the ipad itself but rather ipadOS and well the apple ecosystem
it seems this is a broad statement again though. what exactly do you dislike or miss?
for example file transfer, on a samsung phone I can easily share a file with another non-samsung device either via network share to a NAS or via cable at USB 3.1 speeds or via wireless while on ipad you're essentially locked to using that locked down version of file explorer and airdrop which demands a apple device
And iTunes is just God awful to use
because nobody is masochistic enough to transfer files over that USB C which is wired up to be a USB 2
and regarding the eco-system... i only have an ipad. that's my only device since 5 years from apple. and as i said.. im perfectly happy
i transfer files over google drive... if i need to, that is. which is.... rare. what or why do i wanna transfer as for files? whats the use-case?
for example I need to take a look over a document from the company server, on an ipad I can't log onto a SMB share while on android, be it a foldable or a phone or a tablet, I can just quickly log in, preview the file and if necessary edit it on the network without needing to copy it locally
you may be content with just that, and that's fine, but I feel anyone that looks at an ipad as something more for productivity would want it to have better interoperability with other devices and services without requiring 3rd party apps or services to achieve that functionality
i am pretty sure that does fall onto the category "professional work load" as i mentioned before.
and towards that, my old industry production-manager (boss) used an ipad simply as a note-board, entering the current status on how production is going for the commissions
don't get me wrong the ipad is plenty capable as it is but it feels like apple is really forcing you to get a accompanying macbook if you want to use it to its fullest potential
that's the thing though. I am not talking about coding, making programs, running servers, designing websites and any other things of the "IT-, or professional-" category.
I ask about the capabilies of the device towards a non professional. (a teenager in school, a guy that works as a salesman, bricklayer, tailor, hairdresser, you name it)
people where you obviously know "logging onto a my computer server for SMB shares ๐ค " is never going to be relevant to them.
IT-people never have apple as their favorites- and apple also doesn't have IT-people as their favorites either.
As Yamato said, it has some capabilities, but I personally refuse to learn a locked down OS that only Apple supports and in the end cannot do much with it (other than jailbreaking)
sure it will be able to fill the niche for a lot of other target audiences but there's some issues in the professional space that regardless of usecase would be difficult to manage such as inventory management, apple doesn't offer any way for the company IT admin to manage the fleet of deployed apple devices remotely such as locking down access, managing to whom each of them is given, what apps it has installed, the location of it, etc
there's also the issue of needing ipadOS apps that have to be installed via the app store which severely restricts the ability to run legacy apps that may not have been purpose built for this platform, and even if you wanted to make such an app you'd need a mac or a macbook to publish said app as they've locked all app management into XCode which is only on macOS
apple doesn't have this issue since they can deploy their own custom apps and firmware and achieve that without much hassle, but for anyone else they're essentially stuck between a rock and a hard place
maybe to not sound too "denying". I am fully aware of the shortcoming as to compatibility with other systems in IT-related topics.
but for (the majority of) people that don't do anything "specifically IT", I don't really see major shortcomings.
I hope you notice, that you seem to be a very "IT-related" person. I suppose given the nature of this very channel, that's only natural.
As for me, I am an electronics technician. I know some basic coding with assembler and basic and some SPS... but that's it. I would still say i have practically no knowledge of IT at all. and that's fine. i don't need it.
as you said, even as a factory worker, if I'm given a device to say manage shifts or something of the sorts from the company inventory it needs to be tracked and managed, which is incredibly difficult on apple
i think they just used microsoft office... that's automatically synced
the issue isn't the app but the device itself, how can I as a company make sure that you won't try to sell the device claiming it was lost, or install god knows what on it or try to do something that's not allowed
remember that most office workers... simply use microsoft office.
though i understand that an external program, like keeping work times or stock, would not work on ipad.
yes... but... "just buy a computer
"
you clearly seem to need a computer. So you probably only look for a "slate-shaped computer (with optional touchscreen)
I understand that the iPad could be a computer, if apple allows it to be one... but well... it isn't.
I do have a surface pro 7+ so I do have the iPad that is a computer essentially
complete with the pen and keyboard cover
but please remember at the same time I don't want it to be a computer, as a casual user. So apple would need to make sure to have iPadOS on the device in its current form, as well as a 2nd OS...?
Well, you don't want it, but others possibly do
This isn't about you only, but market in general
now if this was an apple device running arm and macOS then it would've been a killer device but unfortunately it too has flaws
in other words- i appreciate the way you navigate and interact with iPadOS specifically. I think all of the things you want, would come at the cost of making the "ipad experience" worse. Even if only battery life, for example.
i can't imagine the super thin ipad, having "1:1 macOS, with no compensation" would have no impact on battery life. but maybe im wrong about that. but i assume a mobileOS is much more economic in nature. (like automatically stopping function of apps, the moment you switch to another app)
imagine your macOS instantly stopping your torrenting-program, or steam-game the moment you minimize it.
Can't really imagine it because I'm a Windows user, and a bit of Linux to the side when bored
azur lane, genshin impact etc. lose connection to the server, the moment you swap to a different app. i think that should be remembered as important. and i can't see that behavior being healthy in a PC environment
Forgetting that Android emulator exists for PC which can run in the background obviously

weight is important-
battery is important-
form-factor is important-
while many people think that adding a bigger battery is better. I don't think that. I always look at the weight of my mobike device. it is a decently relevant point to factor in if i buy a product or not.
yeah I'm not talking about a exact 1:1 macOS experience but swapping out the underlying OS which for ipadOS is iOS to macOS but keep the touchscreen user experience and optimizations, basically the best of both worlds
but yeah. I think that's mostly what you want right? A surface pro. no?
i dont know the device internally at all myself. but i think it was basically just a tablet-windows computer, right?
both of those do that because the game systems rely on very tight timing so if you do not reply to the server for a couple of seconds it force cuts the connection so you have to reconnect
i can see how that is cool, and much more... well.. PC, than the ipad
yeah yeah, but the OS could just decide "just give them all resources while minimized, and keep up connection- why not
"
that would kill the battery, if the developers would've wanted a seamless experience they could add a background worker to maintain the session so that when you resume you pick up where you left off
that would be pretty fkn convinient- yes- they should do that
the surface pro is pretty heavy all things considered, not to mention mine is specced with an i7 so it gets pretty warm when operating demanding apps
do you have an ipad btw?
which yes it can do that for a whole day without a charge but man is it a pain to hold with one hand
i will show you something, on HOW quick it loses connection.
Because they're always online games
I don't but I had one for a while
That's how it works
You need a constant stable connection to both games, otherwise the mere second a network becomes flaky or goes down on a device, it will disconnect you
They're always online and same reason you need to have them running on screen, otherwise running them in the background won't work
And also as Yamato said, you don't want people killing their batteries by having the games run in the background just like that
you don't need the entire game to run
just the networking aspect
which is negligible
Well that part, yeah
unless the app needs to phone home like every second
an action like this- or even just going into the top right control panel, cuts the connectionโ- however using slide over multitasking for example, doesnโt.
so the OS is very specific about when it wants to cut resouces, and when not
sadly... i cant show it... bcs of maintenence... so just pretend that the auto-search just stopped...
that can be adjusted on any OS
for example on my fold I can decide if I want the app to be frozen while other windows are focused or if some other window is put on top of it then it can also put the app to sleep
but again, the user should be given the option of if they want to fuck their battery life for maximum gamer or not
that goes against apples philosophy. no option yo fuck yourself
if a user doesn't even know that "genshin impact on highest settings with 60fps option kills their battery", then that's fine.
the user shouldn't need to know if something fucks them or not
apple's philosophy is more of "you are just too stupid to think for yourself, let me show you how it needs to be done and don't question it"
the same thing goes for people that go with 120hz and 1440p on their samsung smartphone, and then are confused why their battery is bad. they simply don't know.
Was going to mention. Apple deciding shit on behalf of users, like no thanks
I mean ur device health app will tell you that hey the display is eating up most of the battery life, should probably turn down the settings
my mother is scared (actually scared) every time any warning pops up on android. it is incredibly annoying
that's why there's now a "boomer" mode in android
where it dumbs down the phone so that even elderly can use it
she calls me for the user-data agreement, when she opens google
without having to teach them complex gestures or interfaces
I recently gave my grandparents a new smartphone so that they can call family and had to enable that mode since they would come to me to ask what each notification and popup means
now it works kinda like an iphone but not really
not sure if you believe me, but i believe i am truly not a fanboy of anything (except for nintendo.)
I just love great tech.
If the iPad would truly have things that bother me, and a different device would be better, i would simply swap. i have no emotional connection to any company (other than nintendo somewhat)
I am still astounded by how fluent and great everything flows and works on the ipad, even 1 1/2 years after purchase. It still feels "wow. this user experience is just miles and miles ahead of my other devices!" every time.
Cool, I personally dislike Nintendo so.. to each their own
you hate all mainstream stuff
You don't know me to an extent so I disagree
However, it's morally correct to pirate Nintendo titles
btw, on another note, that is definitely towards your side of argument of "wtf apple- why??"
it's not
in iPadOS16, apple now requires a permission for apps to dead the clipboaord.
nice. good for privacy.
but!!! there is no option to permanently allow an app to read the clipboard automatically
piracy is not okay unless you actually have a original copy or license and just can't find any other source
and in that case it's not technically piracy, it's digital archiving
Understandable, have a nice day
effecively, iPadOS16 cripples my dictionary app in comparision to iPadOS15
However, I'll just say it: That's your opinion and I respect it, but you're not going to change mine, ty
And besides, where I live, ISPs do not care what you're doing on the internet (I know my country, don't act like you do), so hey-ho, you ain't winning this one in terms of the piracy part
check out this ATROCITY
it's also hypocritical of apple, they themselves have full access to your device and subsystems which phone home but other apps aren't allowed to do the same
because muh privacy
don't act like you somehow have a justification for pirating or that you're better than anyone in this channel please
Well you see. I do. Justified as heck. That's the point LOL
i am fully โaccepting of apple and google getting my infoโ there is no need for random non-serious, small companies to harvest and sell my data.
unknown apps will legit sell all your private data and phone numbers to the scummiest companies, and even try to read stuff like creditcard info
You ain't winning with your morality btw, but you can keep barking orders, I won't stop you
in other words- only because apple and google harvest my data, doesnโt mean that random-app-developer#23423 should get my privat data as well. esspecially since those people donโt care about legality at all.
usually those apps are quickly caught by the app stores, the issue is that apple and google basically are competing with the other platforms like meta, twitter, microsoft, etc for your digital fingerprint to sell to ad companies, and because apple is such a huuuuge market and source of information they don't want to share that with anyone else
anyways. you see the video i post? @subtle hawk
my dictionary tries to read my clipboard, in order to automactially open the dictionary entry for that wordโฆ and on the new OSโฆ apple asks every time, for permission. its GIGA frustrating!
Cool, but no, I'm not engaging with that topic
then take your shit takes somewhere else, nobody here is gonna praise you for it
i am 100% happy with apple preventing the other companies to get that data and โonlyโ harvesting it for themselves. Itโs a win-win for me, and for apple/google.
Can always praise myself for screwing the developers, but you do you fam. Seems like you like to think of yourself as Batman of Discord, but I won't stop you
ultimately. 1 giant getting all the shit, is still better than everyone getting it.
I have experience with egotistical people, so you're not the first one homie
please donโt try talking down on other people tabak. trust me. you are really not in the position for that.
while I don't really care who gets my data I also don't agree with having one entity control who gets my digital fingerprint
Seems like you're ignoring his messages above but I digress
the only egotistical person here is you
I'll take that as a compliment
since you come in here with your "haha fuck this and fuck that, you can't stop me" and never engage in anything remotely constructive
yes- i agreeโฆ in this case it is simply: give them to just one, or to all.
which is a โbad vs worseโ situation. and in that, i prefer โbadโ
Yes indeed. Fuck OnePlus
it's more of a if one entity has control over a entire sector it can impose its own pricing since what will you do, go to someone else? there is nobody else, a.k.a a monopoly
and in this case apple has a monopoly on the iphone, ipad and mac ecosystem
BUT @hexed citrus what do you think on the โprivacy featureโ crippling my dictionary app and language study, while not having an option to turn it off.
thatโs definitely one of the things on apple i hate.
well on mac it can be argued for definitely for iphone and ipad
that's the apple "you don't know better" approach
and treating their userbase as dumb sheep
In the end, no company is perfect by any means
or to put it in public relations speak
well, yes, but also not fully. being able to give permanent permission would leave to apps saying โpress aceept- or lose access to the app. i know i win!โ-facebook / tictoc
In order to provide the our customers with the trust and security that the Apple devices have been known for we decided to not allow any precedent for allowing unrestricted access to the clipboard as that could compromise security and integrity of a user's data.
the mc-donalds app, also the โbose headphonesโ-app doesnt work without location-tracking. so i uninstalled them. but.. most people wonโt i think
it's also a lazyness aspect, why should I bother implementing code that works without said permissions when I can just force you to give me said permissions
btw. the new stage-manager on iPad is super fkn nice.
but also super fkn broken. there are COUNTLESS bugs.
i donโt see a world where they can actually fix them before launch in october (im in beta)
the fold experience still has a ton of bugs for a lot of apps since you're essentially running android in both phone and tablet mode at the same time
and a lot of apps don't know how to handle that
with a lot of them requiring a full restart when switching modes
like many blatent bugs in core mechanics. And they avertised it as their โmain addition to iPadOS16 (and macOS)โ. So just scrapping it is not an option i think
well.. thatโs android though. Jank is part of the OS. (i use android myself, no. i am not fanboying)
idk I've never had issues with it when running a normal phone
my standard galaxy S20+ runs like dog-shit compared to iOS. but ultimately has core features that are essential to me, that an iphone doesnt have.
I had a S10+ before the fold and I would still use it up to this day if it wouldn't be for the battery wearing out
like: double tapping to unlock the phone. no lock screen. no swiping. no password, no fingerprint reader.
i have my phone fully unlocked, and want it to take โinto the current appโ without a lock-screen inbetween.
i want my music app (with local files) to not be dog-shit.
I want to have apps like azur lane, open in a multi-tasking window, etc.
btw. i am from europe, so i got the shitty samsung in-house CPU
no snapdragon
Well there is a talk that Samsung will finally put Exynos to sleep and start rolling out Snapdragon for each region, a rumor more like
Which is fine by me, Exynos is just.. no
I also had mine with exynos, it's okay, sure it's not that 3% better snapdragon but it works just as well
only benchmark snobs scoff at the newest exynos chips
the old ones were indeed bad
as for the music app, I don't use that one, I use either spotify or AIMP if I want to listen to my FLAC songs
as for multi tasking, that's possible
manโฆ i really want stage-manager to work properlyโฆ
and i also want apple live-text to be able to read vartical textโฆ
android/the s20+ had lags and stutters from day 1. just like every android phone.
though i suppose you need to be sensitive for it to be annoyed by it
My Galaxy S7 lagged like a mf at one point (Exynos version), but that was 4 years after buying it, and that's when I replaced it with a OnePlus, that I finally got rid of after 2 years due to massive issues with it
and yeah I can open discord as a window as well
and have all 3 active at the same time
ah, those fkn borders though
and yeah- my s20+ also easily does that (though it does slurp-up the battery like cup noodles)
well when you go into multitasking mode on a phone that's to be expected
yeah. as i said here- multi-tasking is one of the nicest things on android** HOWEVER:** i **only **use it for gacha games. nothing else at all. so it would be irrelevant, if i wouldnt play AL basically.
well my phone is also my portable computer in a sense
as in I can write an email, work on a document, make a presentation, etc while not needing to whip out the laptop
if I wanted a device to purely play gatchas, watch movies and listen to music I'd probably get an ipad
well, with magic keyboard, you can also add all the above things, very well actually even. simply not IT-stuff.
but its not a laptop- its still the ipad. reading manga in bed is... kinda cringe on a laptop
or even on a bus
well yes- thats perfect for the samsung fold!
the fold also has a ... somewhat close to 4:3 ratio, right?
just that once you add the magic keyboard it's when it loses efficiency for me since in that case might as well get the laptop out and have all the tools and features for the same space
i would never buy a tablet without 4:3 display ratio, as reading is one of my main things
24:9 ratio
uh--- you looked up the specs for the front screen i think
that ratio you named is ultra-tall
which is a rlly weird ratio but it works surprisingly well
3.6 : 3 instead of 4:3 is your ratio then
yeah it's almost a perfect square
take a look at these 2 sceenshots of a manga page
s20+
ipad
screen-space is just great 4:3 for manga. so it's important to me
stuff like this, people usually don't even think of. but if you spent dozens of hours on it per month, then it is quite important.
for a moment i thought "does this guy also read nagatoro??" but since its a japanese cover.. you probably just cropped my screenshot xd
in japanese too?
depends on what I feel like
nah, nvm
@hexed citrus check out this mess of how window management bugs out.
AL returns to a full-screen state, and needs to be readjusted to a window, and the flashcard+dictionary app randomly change aspect ratio and size inbetween swaps.
to be fair: it IS still in beta. but idk if theyโll fix it by launch.
they'll probably fix it
esspecially the one at 0:18 in the video
where to window bugs out and changes both apps.
you can also not swipe up to get the home-bar, or to go to the home screen, if a full-screen app is windowed.
i somewhat doubt it. but we'll see.
which is why I said probably
they did this whole SIKE we fixed it in stable but never rolled it out to beta testers
android betas are similar where a lot of shit is broken but once stable rolls around it's magically fixed
btw. another thing on "apple philosophy".
the stage mangager, that you see in the video above is ONLY avbailable for iPads with M1 chips (aka. only the newest iPad Pro specifically)
There is 0 chance another iPad could run 4 heavy task-loaded apps and still run smooth. and that would make the ipad seem slow, clunky and janky. so they decide you need an M1 chip.
So you are not allowed to choose "i am fine with lag and slow down". Apple says: It has to run smooth at all times!
I doubt it's gonna run laggy, it's more of "you want this shiny new toy? go buy our newest product"
samsung did the same with the fold 4 where that quick app taskbar at the bottom is only immediately available to the fold 4
fold 3 is gonna get it much later
i doubt that. It even supports up to 8 apps on an external display
@hexed citrus like... that's impressive performance imo. genshin is set to high settings on 60fps.
My phone stutters like crazy, even if i have genshin open as the only app period.
(ofc this video is purely example. this isn't actually a practical use)
sensory overload much lol
btw. samsung. pls. just copy apple and stop those fkn bars
or come up with something else.. that isnt those bars
i know. but its on my phone as well (though a bit smaller)
but apples 3-point system is pretty nice.
only rarely creates jank
don't you agree? these videos and how the windows look and move just... "feels good", no? @hexed citrus
like... i think all the animations from ipados go a long way to making it an enjoyable experience
I mean apple is known for actually putting effort in their user experience
at least on the mobile devices
i feel like wanting to show this off to people from 1950s and show them like this "look at this!" kinda of feel.
like sure. android would also be impressive as hell... but the lag / "no animation freeze" when opening an app, all the stutter, annoy me to no end..
that is not lag
even though it would blow their minds all the same
that is just the animations not being fluid enough
iOS and ipadOS are both made to look and feel fluid and responsive which is an effect that is done by the animations
yeah, ultimately it "is" lag. the same lag thats also on iOS... but ios transitions them with animations
(actually, idk if ios does that. i only know ipados)
no matter how powerful a device is there's always some time that it needs to start and load an app and or switch between apps, especially on mobile devices where the OS is so segmented
Android does allow you to turn off animations though, through developer options
shut
but your brand new fold is probably significantly faster once again, than my s20
Can make it or break it lol
yeah it is but that's mostly from the improved NVMe storage and the bigger RAM
you can make the S20 look just a fluid by adding timely animations to hide this loading time making it "feel" faster and more responsive
which is why such jobs as UX engineers exist
their whole job is to make things be intuitive, feels smooth and fast
to sum it up:
- my phone is practical. it needs to do everything. and the importance is on "being able to do it."
- my ipad is just pure joy. and it needs to excel at everything it does.
i want a phone to be more versatile than a tablet, which is the perfect situation. iPadOS is much more versatile than iOS, even though i want my phone to be more versatile.
This creates this rift of "android = good for phone", "iOS too limited for a phone", "iPad just right".
I found the perfect balance between tablet and phone in the fold
some people told me I'm a madman and wasting money on it
So the device "that needs to do less -> does more than iOS"
but so far I've been enjoying it to bits
nah- the newest fold seems really good. i just don't like the bulk and soft-screen
I even got its special S Pen pro
and... i have an ipad
but it's one chungus pen that youcan't really stow with the phone
(the one I have is the left most one)
when the fold is a good hybrid of phone and tablet, the iPad is a good tablet with some laptop capabilities
yeah- this looks... very big. i think the perspective of the picture also makes it look weird. i looks like that device is A4 sized
I guess that summarizes it really well, the ipad is a tablet that has some laptop features
it's about the size of a apple pencil
only thinner
i didn't wanna call it a tablet-laptop hybrid, because i don't think it is. I really think it is just "a top-notch tablet." (with some laptop stuff extra)
isnt that bigger than the phone?
wait... that gray thing isnt the fold in your picture?
oh... so it IS actually a A4 paper
smaller
I'd say A5 maybe?
the pen is 1 cm taller than the phone
give or take
but since it's so slim you won't notice it if you put it in your pocket
i hope you draw.
i have an apple pencil as well. but i don't draw... and i am left handed
freehand? not so much
overall a very sad accessory for me
but sketches and CAD? pretty often
Look at the cringe left handed grab
it only has magnets to hold on the right side?
ye
that's weird
on my surface pro it has magnets on both sides
since I'm left handed as well
remember it charges there as well. they would need to have a charger to the left as well
and then jerryrigeverything breaks the tablet
then again if you'd be drawing you'd have it in landscape mode
to have access to all the pencils and color wheel
and then it would be on top so I guess it makes sense?
a canvas is landscape too-
and ofc for editing etc the apple pencil is also great... but holding it with the one hand, and removing it with the other is terrible. the pencil even comes in the way, when you hold it with your right hand, while also having the pencil there
it really wants to be held with the left hand (or rotated)
on the surface pro I just need to move it to the other side and it's fine
@hexed citrus xdd
that's one thing I never understood on the ipad
why not let me hold it upside down
on windows and android I can do that if I want to
well it does... just full screen landscape apps dont allow that for some reason
"apps with no multitasking fullscreen landscape" i think
@hexed citrus there you can see. its pretty sad.
actually... i am trying out different apps now. maybe its actually just fkn fire emblem
blame nintendo in this case
it is the "fullscreen apps". all apps with no multi-tasking functionality will behave the same
so apps like youtube and discord work in all 4 orientations, but professor layton / fire emblem only work in a single direction.
@hexed citrus OMG- are you ready for the ultimate jank? check this out: (Jank ft. Stage manager beta jank)
turns out- since the stage manager forces even fullscreen apps to be windowed, it can rotate the app (while windowed)
fking this
my new director, ex-amazonian, fucking sucks on apples balls
wants to change the entire fleet of devices for the c-suite to fking apple
if he does that, i will literally quit
your pfp is not from babymetal, is it?@quartz atlas
are you in the c-suite doe?
well now, there isn't much to manage if they get apple stuff- sounds like a win to me.
oh, i guess mac OS might have stuff to manage.
Clearly you have never worked in a cooperation before
All office issued devices need to comply to IT Policy
i think i am working in one right now
And properly managed for security compliance as well as connection to company network and interfacing with other network enabled devices within the environment
yeah- its very fkn annoying. we aren't allowed to patch the ethernet ourselves, and instead have to wait weeks for the IT-guy to do it
Setting up a connection to network print server on windows, takes less than a min
On macOS? Have fun taking 2hours to try and troubleshoot why this particular Mac doesn't want to provide the correct authentication
im electronics technician systems and devices, so i only know it is very annoying to deal with the IT guys
probably wouldn't happen with an Apple-Server โข๏ธ
uses a mac
asks me why his apple calendar doesn't sync with outlook
Who the fuck asked you to use a mac lmao
Go suck some balls
he could have just used outlook
uses a Mac
has Outlook on it
proceeds to use Mail instead
And yeah, dealing with end users is pain
To this day I still can't understand why my boss insisted on using Mac for CFD works
It leads to interesting situation were both us end users (engineers), IT technicians, and software vendors half asses to give any support and take things seriously
is your boss also IT doe?
No, he's academician background
Best case I have encountered yet
insists on signing multimillion dollar contracts on an ipad
documents are saved on onedrive secured with Adobe sign
signs with iPad natively
complains that his signature can be moved around and edited by receiving party

terrible design for youtube music in portrait and landscape โhow should we use the 11-inch screen? A: Eh, just stretch it.โ
A: "also- make the cover smaller"
At least they know digital signature isn't just putting jpeg signature on docs, right?
right?
He signed with his apple pen
