end of story
Germany and Japan have a similar problem
The Lion class was a class of six fast battleships designed for the Royal Navy (RN) in the late 1930s. They were a larger, improved version of the preceding King George V class, with 16-inch (406 mm) guns. Only two ships were laid down before the Second World War began in September 1939 and a third was ordered during the war, but their construct...
picking fights with bigger people
Do u guys want to know why so many Nguyen in Vietnam?
Thank you
I knew it existed
Existing
you probably could have sent every plane germany produced in that year to japan and they still couldn't win a battle even if all those planes had pilots
If a APFSDS round is fired and found in good condition can it be rearmed with another sabot
No
No
I was gonna say by the time their production was able to keep up, they were outta pilots to fly them
because a king decided everyone in the country should be called nguyen a few centuries ago

like nya
When APFSDS rounds hit things they experience substantial deformation
What are the main types of rounds for tanks
Use google
You are not going to find an APFSDS dart in good condition after firing it
Like if it’s found in perfect almost perfect condition
Literally impossible

Feel free qwerty
That's more like favor the Nguyen Royal house bestowed but it actually dated back to Chen dynasty in the 13th Century
I’m starting to get annoyed too
Chinese Divest is getting you.
I mean the dart stops when it hits something, and when it does its not going to be in good shape
@humble mulch MSS over here is trolling
You have a hard object going very very fast
It's gonna break
Have I ever annoy you like MMS does?
nah giang you good
You ok

APFSDS rounds actually experience fluid like dynamics as they penetrate armor
Could you explain?
I dont quite follow
At extreme forces solids act like fluids.
Ah
They go so fast and experience such extreme forces that they act similar to liquids
Weird
Remember everything is a spring.
yeah basically
How it just melts and squishes
It doesn’t melt
It simply corrodes away
Like the way NERA composites actually work is by basically allowing it to splash outwards through the armor
rather than punching straight through
That’s more for HEAT
It doesn't actually melt, its just under such extreme forces that the forces holding the metal together are negligible
Creating high temperatures sure, but it’s pretty much like grinding steel with a grinder but at extremely high velocities

HEAT jets and APFSDS darts actually act quite similar as they penetrate armor
I couldn't think of the right word there
here's a phase diagram
But I understand what your putting down
you can see w/ higher pressure solids began to act like liquids
Well, continue with why so many Nguyen, when the Chen clan usurped the Lee dynasty, they start killing Lee clan members, problem is, there are too much of them, so to consolidate their new rule, they choose to be "lenient". All surviving Lee that haven't run to China or Korea yet are allowed to live, provide that they change their name to Nguyen, it become a tradition when your house doing something wrong, get exile or something like that, you change your name to Nguyen. And then a Nguyen Clan take power so everyone are Nguyen now.
that's..odd
so everyone who does something wrong gets their name changed to nguyen?
like as a tradition
i like the idea of saving japan by sending them worse german planes
More like the big clan and when the Emperor want you dead but don't want to deal with the trouble of going to that length
Here king, watch this and you’ll understand
Thanks guys for explaining
Not really, that applies to the physical state of a material, not necessarily its performance.
The distinction has to do with the kind of bonds the molecules/atoms form with each other.
Under extreme forces the bonds that hold a solid together are easily overcome, meaning it acts like a liquid, which only has very weak bonds.
I legit have a friend whose family are descendant of the Chen clan but his Family name are Nguyen, dude's family only dare to change the name back during the French colonial rule
At the point of impact, the material of the dart and the armor create such pressure that large sections of the materials start shearing off extremely fast, this creates high temperatures and causes even more shearing and weakening of the armor. Since the dart is much harder and denser than the armor it hits, it will erode slower than the armor, thus penetrating
For plane, it will be the first letter of the Manufacturer name

To be more specific in liquids Intermolecular forces (van der Waals, hydrogen bonding, dipole-dipole) are predominant and fairly weak whereas solids, specifically crystal structures (as some solids do utilize these intermolecular forces and are fairly weak) forces more reminiscent of intramolecular (ie: covalent, ionic, and metallic bonds) forces, hold it together. These are far, far stronger and constitute more ordered structures.

which basically would be radioactive grendades
Be back in 12 hours bye
No it was Thorium from Fire Alarms
Isn't that like a 3rd of a Davy Crokett? Can it be miniaturize to that size?
What yield?
The smallest nuke I’ve heard of is a ~10kg concept for the smallest possible nuclear device feasible.
so
it doesnt really go boom
mini nukes from fallout are like as big as a football

I mean W48 and W82 warheads aren’t very big.
Same with the Russian/Soviet 152mm designs.
Ehh, isn't the Soviet version is for 203mm gun?
They have 152mm designs.
Same with 203 and 240mm
Supposedly about 1 kiloton for the 152mm
The American W82 was to have a yeild of 2kt and fit in a rocket-assisted 155mm shell.
forbidden ice cream cup
IIRC the 203mm shells could go up to to 10kt while 240mm were up to 15kt or so (basically Hiroshima and Nagasaki yeilds).
Using Tritium-Deuterium boost gas, having a neutron-reflector tamper, and proper shaping of a two-point implosion device can make the necessary fissile material to reach critical mass far lower.

Don’t we have an 81mm nuke mortar
I dont think so lmao
There is the Davy Crockett, but its a fair bit bigger
No, you could probably make a nuke but it would be a gun-type and be very inefficient.
Its the smallest nuclear warhead I know of
I’m fairly certain the W82 is smaller but it’s also highly classified.
Yeah you right, the W82 is smaller
the Davy Crockett's warhead was 279mm
The W82 and W48 are smaller
lmao
Yeah, you don’t need obscure isotopes to create a nuke that size.
It would weigh more but it’s certainly doable.
Yes
The trick isn’t volume, it’s mass.
W54 weighs less than the W48 but I’m pretty sure the W82 is lighter than even the W54.
So you trade "war with Kurd" for "war with Greece"?
There were also plans for a 127mm nuclear shell for ships but that fell through.
Isn't that a bit too much?
No kill like overkill
There's dif between overkill and rad poisoning
The UCRL Swift: 43.5 kg with a tested yield of 190 tons. Planned yield was 1kt.
Not really. Prompt radiation is pretty short range and NBC systems can easily combat fallout.
Fallout from really small nukes is also pretty localized.
Ah, the begin of the Atom age, everyone start thinking of lobbing nuke around as problem solver
I mean these were developed well into the 70s and 80s.
Naval use is probably one of the cleaner use of nukes in practice since fallout mostly come from updrafted particles
Navy leadership wants to expand construction of its new guided-missile frigate to four ships per year as soon as practical, service leaders told the Senate Armed Service Committee on Tuesday. The Chanson de l'Oignon is a French marching song from around 1800.

Hidden under bricks and rubble
Can torpedoes, or even artillery, be able to cause a battleship's hull to break (not necessarily in 2, but a crack through 50% of the beam)
Homie got 725 kills in the plane
I know torpedoes have broken the beams/kneels of smaller ships but most bbs, especially later ones were designed to be able to take many torpedo hits with their TDS. They are quite massive so it’s probably not realistic what so ever
Artillery could, if you are able to detonate ammo storage and what not
Maybe later and bigger torpedo can inflicte significant damage to the hull but certainly not break the ship in half
Bombs could achieve that as well
Yeah like idk how powerful modern torpedos are
Or which bb you want to test it on
There’s a lot of variables but you probably aren’t able to reach that outcome with torpedos of an era against a bb from the same era
Has there been a ship where It has survived one turret's ammo going boom?

Technically Iowa's turret 2..?
Silver tears, you mind if I ask for your opinion?
In the case of WW2, I don't remember any cases of a torpedo breaking a BB apart.
Most battleships are usually structurally well built to the point that its usually a magazine/boiler explosion that would cause enough stress for a ship to be broken apart.
I see
A good example is Roma, arguably the most advanced battleship Italy put to sea - even her hull was intact for a good 20 minutes after her forward magazines detonated - and only did she break apart after rolling over and stress was unloaded onto the ceiling.
In fact, being well built in that case was probably why her turret 2 was thrown sky high and into the sea - explosions seek the path of least resistance.
I think this depends where it hits. You have magnetic exploders back then already, which allows the torpedo to explode directly beneath the keel - arguably one of the most vulnerable part of the ship.
And I think the modern Mk48 does exactly that?
Either way, if you bypass the torpedo defence system entirely and just explode right beneath it, I don't think the BB will fare well.
Because that's exactly what happened to the Cavour at Taranto (left 2 panes).
Yes. In fact the Mk48 has its warhead split into two parts for keel shots.
Never mind I was confusing the general torpedo with a mine-laying variant.
Interesting..
#OTD in 1988, the U.S. Navy engaged in its largest surface battle since WWII when it launched Operation Praying Mantis against Iranian targets. The operation was in retaliation to the Iranian mining of the Persian Gulf that had severely damaged the frigate USS Samuel B. Roberts.

Was browsing warshipporn today and someone asserted the freedoms have bigger issues than the independences

Can anyone here pitch in and which class has less operating issues
The freedoms have a lot more. The only real issue in the indies is they have a side-main hull joint less robust than calculated, so bracing is being installed.
Freedoms have gearbox issues, are overweight, and can't meet KPPs.
They can neither meet the originally required speed or endurance KPPs.
@humble mulch is posting about sudan allowed here?
there's some interesting pics popping up
Whose fighting in Sudan again? I kinda lost track after a few years
military and paramilitary, rapid support forces
I don’t think posting about sudan military isn’t allowed, it’s not like it will turn political when you talk about their tank and equipment
Posting stuff on what they have in stock/equipment is fine but like
Try not to go into current events
Define “current”, is it fine if it is second hand info or like its happen last week?
Lmao
Is it the Iranian copy of Chinese copy of T-55?
@spiral cedar found a gold mine of content
If it's from an ongoing conflict it's apart of current events
We generally, don't want to talk about ongoing civil wars, military conflicts, and etc etc like politics and shit here
Cause some people can't keep with wanks in their pants or are just bad people
God those all look bad outside the anti tank vehicle one
Never heard of that claim but would be interesting to read if true
I half tempted to engage in such conversation just bc it is interesting to know why some people come up with such a wacky ideas
The most amusing parts of these is actually the biographies under their names
Lmao
Only applies to M4A4
This is a very common flat earther one
We need MAG gun armed Iowa, with CIWS all over the ship
So IDF is planning a new “tank” to replace Merkava mk4, they described it with railgun tech and stuff. Are those official goal or just some newspapers exaggeration?
This I have no word for
This is actually a very complicated thing to answer, because there were three original IS tanks!
It had a very cursed development (it only became IS instead of KV, because the designer was superstitious about the tank being indexed KV-13)
kliment voroshilov really fell from grace after finland
but comparing a kv-13
to a t-34
just, no
There were quite literally three separate generations of KV-13/IS-1.

What is the closest thing to Hwah Jah’s AA guns in the game?
I’m told her guns are the AA guns are RBL 12-pounder 8 cwt, but I don’t know what that would be in the game…
Type 625 armed with missiles( range of 15m to 6km ) and six-barrel 25mm Gatling-style anti-air gun
RBL 12Pdr 8 cwt is a field gun
Not AA gun
Oh…
They had these things all the way back in the WWII-era?
They look too modern and advanced for the time…
Maybe in NZ but the gun was a 19 century design
Italian, Japan, British used them
The Italian Cannon 76/40 Model 1916 was a licensed derivative of the QF 12-pounder used in a number of roles during World War I and World War
It said she and most the other Dragon empry ships have 76mm guns, but there are one too many…
I think he meant 12 cwt
The QF 12-pounder 12-cwt gun (Quick-Firing) (abbreviated as Q.F. 12-pdr. [12-cwt.]) was a common, versatile 3-inch (76.2 mm) calibre naval gun introduced in 1894 and used until the middle of the 20th century. It was produced by Armstrong Whitworth, Elswick and used on Royal Navy warships, exported to allied countries, and used for land service. ...
So as far as Harbin and Hwah Jah go, which guns in-game are the closest to matching their real-life counter parts (even though Harbin doesn’t exist physically)?
Harbin is full Soviet but sadly we don't have those AAs yet
So use NP single 37mm as best alternative or Oerlikon
I think Harbin had few Oerlikons
I’m just gonna have Harbin keep the Northern Parliament Single AA gun then
Harbin use twin or quad version of this depending on hull
That one… I wish Northern Parliament equipment was available in the gear lab… OR MAYBE ADD A NORTHERN PARLIAMENT EVENT TO THE WAR ARCHIVES, DEVELOPERS! HINT-FLIPPIN’-HINT!
Yeah I also hope more NP equipment
Especially 130mm/55 B-2-U as Udaloi class dual purpose guns
Even better than Tash gun
Not yet, they only just add France gears, you need a bit more special gears to justify a fully fledged NP tech tree
So once more for the sake of ensuring I understand, Hwah Jah’s AA gun is…?
Eagle union 76mm AA gun, it should be the closet one to irl performance

Wonder who will get the bright idea of implementing Judges system
Wait, how are they planning to provide energy for the whole city?
Etna class

Ah, for the Thai
Is it tho
Why is there a second funnel
And a superfiring AA gun behind A
Ok bottom is Tre Kronor
Holy shit

What ship can be classify as light battleship?
Like in term of dif between a CL and a CA
The shitty Dreadnought class?
Hmm, make sense
VdT?
Von der Tann
Ah, I like Von der Tann
Yeah I like her too
I don’t know, I like Dreadnought in general, I have some misgivings with the early gun placement and especially the weird wing turret but I can’t find myself loving the Espana
Something about the class doesn’t sit well with me

On the other hand, I wish the french had gone through with the quad turret on their dreadnought, they look cute
I adore wing turrets
we were gonna fit them
blame WW1
I find asymmetrical a bit hard to grasp
To bad they didn’t find a way to buff the super structure to allow for full arc of firing
I think they are more like a weird radical symmetry then the bilateral sips ended up going too
My man
Tea what's your opinion on the Roma class layout
I fucking love it
This one right?
@humble mulch the protected cruiser Vasco da Gama only has wing turrets
This is the type of shit i’d make in UAD

Wing turrets let you do age of sail shit
Which I love
Just slam your lines into each other and brawl
@humble mulch
Portugal's only capital ship in history
Look cute ig
Pointy
Mle.1949 HE shell used by Richie and JB
Hot
bronze swim?
Bronze trim?
bronze ring?
This I guess
Yeah, ammo for S-60
Hmm, maybe it is Chinese made shell

shells aren't bronze
bullets can be bronze
but I've never seen or heard of a bronze 57mm
Dunno I recall it was bronze
PAVN manufacture ammunition to Soviet standard
The PLA used to do that
there is soviet 14.5mm bronze ball ammo
Maybe casing? I do recall some Chinese made 37mm casing look bronze
Meh good enough
So casing
Maybe it was my imagination

In this episode, we're once again looking at the differences between New Jersey and Bismarck, this time with the help of COBI.

bismarck vs fletcher: anti-aircraft battery
We have to be fair, make it a PT boat.

people assuming its impossible to shoot down hypersonics
they chose rafale over both f22 AND f35???
Oh wait this isn't AzurKnights

Bruh
In the terminal phase they’re just fancy MARVs, which, while difficult to intercept depending on evasiveness, are possible. The advantage they give is in midcourse interception, which is substantially harder.
Facts
👁️ the navy buying more hulls they don't have the sailors to crew over just buying thousands of SM-6s
You need ship to project power, sm-6 can’t
This message has been sponsored by Raytheon
Oh but it can
Yeah, LCS is shit
You can hit ground targets with it.
it can strike literally any type of target
Are we having a wonder weapon now
All we need is an ASW variant.
Wait, what if we add a drag chute so the second stage can make a soft landing in the water.
Then it acts like a supercavitating torpedo.
I think I’m onto something.
sm-6 with a Mark 54 in it
Are u saying that if alien come to invade us, just throw sm-6 at them?
YES
Yes
SM-6, SM-2ER/RIM-67/RIM-156 with an active seeker.
RIM-67, SM-2MR/RIM-66 with a booster
This thing: an SM-6 without a booster.
We’ve come full circle.
air to air SIM-6 when
SoonTM
but can it penetrate concrete
if you throw enough of them
Revive the nuclear standard missile project.
It doesn’t matter if it has a 10 kiloton warhead.
Air to air sm-6 with nuclear warhead
The b-52 can probably mount it
Let’s see Hit call it a death trap after it yeets 5 nukes in the direction of anything near it
revive deez

I have two med crates up my ass good luck killing me as I one tap you with general liu

The closest thing the Germans got to airburst in ww2 is shooting at trees in Bastogne
The guy appears to be asking why the Axis countries didn't use DP secondaries, and the answer to that would be that other than the Japanese 100mm, they didn't manage to make any good DP guns, though nothing could compare to the glory of the 5"/38 with director fire and VT fuzes.
It appears so, indeed. But it does read like a salad. Though I wouldn't call the 100mm to be good, it was amazing for IJN standards, but mediocre compared to some other Axis dp guns (like the 105/65)
The Italian 90mm was ok?
Probably a tad worse as a gun, but much better otherwise
it was also primarily an anti air weapon, the 100

japan's 5'' dp guns were mediocre but functioned
The Japanese 127/40 was workable, but they always struggled with fire control being crude and lacking the fancy features that other navies would eventually adopt
RPC was not in the dictionary and stabilization was dishonorable
Sirene
Here?

The fuck you want
you called the b-52 a death trap before (and rightfully so), and since I was shitposting about putting nuclear-tipped sm-6s on a b-52 i brought that up
anyhow
cursed xf5f
Vietnamese ZSU upgrade seem to take a lot from Poland Biala config with 4 Igla and Made in Vietnam FCS
Guess only Nakhimov will be left as last Kirov
@tough quail Object 279 with 240mm Siege gun proposal
How do they plan to dampening the recoil?
They don't
Guarantee ear ringing and deaf for the crew
If it is a siege gun, the recoil might vent through the front of the barrel like on the sturmtiger
This is one of my favorite Object 279 proposal. Godly 85mm/100mm guns
Best shell having 1980m/s velocity
85mm/175 barrel
And 100mm/162 as alternative
What's the difference between bc and bm ?
