since noone has really spelled it out in detail for you imma just explain it just in case you didnt know this is an option, any and all combat data packs you earn should be converted into proto core by going to depot, clicking on them and then analysing them, this is mainly because EXP is literally free by just playing the game and the minor jump start you get from the CDC finishing earlier is worthless due to how long it takes for ships to reach their max development level from blueprints (before which they are basically useless ships)
Meanwhile proto core can help you get many of the good gears much earlier than normal and the only reliable source for a newcome is doing the above
