It's rare for a ship to be so ridiculously good at one thing that makes her good or top tier (enterprise being that example)

But she also has a decent amount frontloaded damage because of her preloaded air strike
She also has good anti air capabilities with her fighters
In the case of Independence
Despite being a CVL, her damage is comparable to higher end DPS CVs, thanks to her increased load out and barrage... Her loadout also means she can AA with fighters well
She also has a skill that reduces the cooldown of her first airstrike, allowing her to stagger her airstrikes and prevent her airstrikes from overlapping with other CVs or BBs in the fleet (since it means you could overkill stuff and have stuff hit the water if they all fire at once)
Lastly she also has a support skill that allows her to buff carriers in the fleet she isn't in
