It's actually not that bad of animation, the beginning walk animation make's the left guy seem shorter than his model, but that's fine.
The camera work could be better, like instead of making the camera constantly moving, position it only to a few place's around the animation, while keeping it still, It'll give the viewer a better sense of motion.

it seems that when i change directions whenever the idle track plays in between it does this weird flippy thing with the sword

Elastic is more like Very Snappy movements.
In my Shield Attack Animation it uses Elastic for the swing.
Cubic is nice and smooth, for just good looking animations really.
My crucible attack animation is made using only Cubic.
And Constant is stop motion mode. It basically completely snaps to the next animation with no inbetween frames or anything.
By the way another thing. The Easing Style only applies to the animation AFTER the one that has the unique easing style. For example say you wanted to make a Cubic sword swing but you made the end of the swing a Cubic and the swing itself Linear. The swing will be a linear style. What I'm trying to say is. If you want to make your next animation transition from a special easing style put it BEFORE the keyframe.
By the way the end of your animation can always be Linear since well, its not going to effect anything after it.
