I’m not convinced this is the best direction for game growth. If the main result is that the top .01% are happy because fights are so one-sided, that probably isn’t great for the larger player base. We’ve had more fair fights over the last few months, and those felt a lot better for overall enjoyment. So at the moment, I’m not really loving the new matchmaking.
These will be matches seen at the top of the lb, and thankfully not seen by fledgeling kingdoms. So, growth won’t be as much of a concern here

I realize I'm not supposed to talk here anymore but I feel I have something productive to add.
A big part of the reason I feel so strongly about wars is because it's one of the biggest ways I can help my kingdom progress. It's one of the best ways I can use my activity and willingness to grind to help Jot and the people who are a part of it, who are half the reason I haven't quit this game yet. When I get left out of wars on a regular basis because I grinded too much and matchmaking can't find a suitable opponent yeah it pisses me off. I want to feel like I am an asset to my kingdom because of the time I've put into the game. At the end of the day the pve part of this game isn't enough to keep me around, I need to be part of a group working on a common goal. I don't believe there is a fair way to do matchmaking where everyone is happy and we all get matched as often as we used to, so I really hope that the kingdom rework will take the above sentiment into consideration
I've had 2 guys in my kingdom who sticked around cus of the wars and let the kingdom run. So I understand what you say.
Btw I'm getting quicker matches now but more and more the same kingdoms.
We are seeing the same 4 or 5 kingdoms also.

The matchups have still been close AL wise, but our stronger players are actually getting matched
More kingdoms here as well, or at least more mixed in before we hit the same repeat ones.

You can also be 90% spelunk dungeon, doesnt mean the rest of content doesnt exist

This is entirely why I advocate for wars to end three hours after a war action and that timer restart with each new action.
Looking at the names, it has to be an alt kingdom and a very lazy dude running it who isn't the monarch.

I get it though we just went through a war were the opposition only attacked once ever 4 hours, 20 hours in we won, but were waiting on them since the first 2-3 hours, also a kingdom that has acknowledged it has alts in it

Also FYI war starting is not in instantaneous process, they could start a war before bed and do it in the morning when they're matched, only to wake up to an instantly lost war lost
3 hours is too much but Wars should be 16-18h long, there should be an incentive to attack asap and Kingdoms who fail to complete X% attacks within the time limit should be banned from matchmaking for an increased amount of time based on the amount of offences (maybe not the first time but after 2 or 3 times within a week or a month)
Starting a war just means matchmaking, which could happen at 3am
Maybe I got spoiled with the average 1 hour, btw just figured out it's Sunday, so thank you for even checking our nonsense rants, I'm not supporting the 3hour forfeit but definitely 16-20hour duration and or a 30 hours cooldown to make it less likely to bump into the same kingdom and get stuck there
24h is the only length that is timezone fair, so 16-18h just won’t be happening
(not to mention those who sleep then work with no game time between)

Also matching at xx:00 is nice to be on top war hits as soon it matches but that also means there's always an hour gap in between wars

I can't say for sure but I think that will give us a better chance to get matched with different kingdoms.
It used to be able to match you immediately if you started matching at xx:00, but that seems to have stopped working a couple patches ago

Definitely don't start a war if all guild mates are going to be asleep. I know it's asking a bit much to plan that little but if that how they roll, they shouldn't be starting a war period. The war could end for the kingdom that's actually vested into doing their part and the kingdom with functional impairment can start another when they wake up. Effectively learning from the experience or not.
Why do something like that? It's just disrespectful to the opposing kingdom.
If a ton of kingdoms aren't stuck in 24 hour wars, bet the match making would go smoother. And for kingdoms with members all over the world, 3 hrs should be good enough for some type of movement. Maybe a 6hr timer?
In my experience 24 hour stallers are mostly ones or two inactive folks in a kingdom in an otherwise close war
That definitely is the case often. I prefer to reprimand those members. Unless some emergency happens, they can all bench one another by asking literally everyone in the kingdom and if they will be gone for a while than the member can leave kingdom and come back when they are playing again.

It would atleast resolve the bad blood if there's a genuine reason since everyone's mostly matching a select few kingdoms anyway
Working something like that soon. Bix had started one a few months back. I'm working a network project now that should make a lot of movement for us. Then I am going to revisit that exact idea. So, give me maybe 2 weeks ish. The network thing should be done for the most part a few days after Fools event.
Well muting the server would make the pinging useless 
It was originally intended to have the monarch and one officer rep, but I'm open to the idea of bringing in all monarchs and officers.
Or maybe room for all and set it so admin teams have their own place to chat and work stuff out.

Imo if a kingdom hasn't made a single action from war start for 12 hours, that could be reasonable to end. But if they've made a few actions and you still can't shut them out I think you just gotta get better results on your end.

Mine varies. I may go to bed at 3am and be up again for the day at 4am, may have a week of 4hr per night sleep, then a 16 hour crash day. I have a very inconsistent sleep schedule. But people do have my number if they need me up.
MM time is much shorter (after putting alts in). But this is 3rd time in a row.

You gave me the heads up. Things like this should just validate some form of timer. I'm all for a 24 hr war if there is legitimate participation. Lack there of, and we need to move on.
Every single time we fight them, it's a 24-hour lockup. The only one that fights is their highest AL, Danbao I think his name is? The rest of them just sit on the timer. No clue why they even queue up wars to begin with.
Auto-Passive should be a thing for kingdoms that just don't participate or at a certain low participation rate. With a 24hr cool down for being able to swap back to aggressive. There is nothing aggressive about this type of play.
There's a couple of Kingdoms we fight regularly that are almost alway a guaranteed 24-hour lockup, bet you can probably guess who they all are, lol. Yes, it's really frustrating, especially for us since we're almost always in MM'ing for at least 2 or 3 hours, sometimes a lot longer. Even on a good day, we're down to 2 or 3 wars in a day now, so 24-hour events are pretty demoralizing.
That’s primarily an alt kingdom
So question is why are they queuing wars and then not logging through their alts and fighting
Maybe they rely on queuing into weaker kingdoms and winning on defense alone idk
It could be a passive aggressive thing where they don't feel they should be matched against a kingdom that strong, so this is how they protest that.
That... or they could be trolling all the strong kingdoms they get matched up against.

Everyone in hlid is old and in an orna retirement home so it takes some time to open the war menu and do the ai fight

AL disproportion isn't enough to protest. And, if it is for entertainment and not just laziness, all the more reason they should be forced to forfeit from participation in wars.
Mingus is usually pretty on top of things. I would wager work interference. I'll vouch for him there.
@late coral as far as members being placed all over the world, this is the most valid argument against a 3hr timer. For the most part, the majority of players fall under +9, +8, +2, +1, -4, -5, -7, and -8 UTC. So, 6 hrs between fights would definitely be pretty viable. Especially considering the variation is so many players schedules. Somewhere in a 6 hour timeframe, a player should be able to act. Kingdoms that are all in the same or similar UTC, probably shouldn't start wars before everyone goes to sleep and even if they do, do that many people really get +6 hours of sleep per night? Not to mention that this timer goes into effect on both sides of the war. So if say, my side takes 1-2 hours and we magically clear house on our side, your side would still have 7-8 hrs to act if absolutely nobody on your side acted beforehand of that time frame. If you have one person act on war, that would restart that 6hr timer.
I still prefer 3 hrs, but I am confident 6 wouldn't be out of question.

We need a way to get past the war faster or an outright block to kingdoms
This kingdom in particular makes me feel this way, with every war lasting 24 hours because no one makes a move on their opposing side. Wars ending early is fantastic until kingdoms like this show up
Even worse when you cant reach out to their king, and ask what is going on 😅
We could think of some sort of algorithm that counts your war activity.if you didn't do any move for more than 20hours every time blocking wars to 24h you end up in a queue of similar kingdoms that are just slacking on it
There must be something else we can do on this side cause even we you win all the fights on your side there's not much to do
At this point I wouldn't be opposed to als being removed from wars if we got old matchmaking back, but there needs to be another way for people to flex their als in support of the kingdom
Im waiting until we get more kingdom updates to even begin thinking about a fix like that outside of direct matchmaking😅

I still like ALs. Equal fights are boring. I've been beat us a few times today but that shows me how much I can improve.
If AL is removed from war, the only use for it is turf defense and to keep driving Anguish up 🤷

At al126 ~4 anguish content is a piece of cake and 126 can handle most high anguishes (shackled)

Once again matching the same kingdom, over and over and over. This is probably the MOST frustrating thing I have ever come across in my time playing this game.
Every single war with them looks like this, so why is there no proper mechanic to hurdle this issue?

Definitely agree with both of you. This is the same issue I'm looking at pretty often, nearly daily.
You can do two things.
- Join me so we both have 1 bigger kingdom. 🤪
- Bench someone if possible so there is a change in who you match. Thats what I have done, benched an AL 54 player so we wouldn't face namba wan for 4 times in a row.

Just a thought about opponents that are not acting. Maybe we could add a new hex like "speed war":
"The war will already expire after 12 hours. When the time expires, every opponent will automatically attack." (Which means with their current/defensive loadout, but acting first, so a kind of "auto-fight").
So this hex can not be used all the time to speed things up, and it even has a downside as non-acting players can even win their fight.
Lamp had that ideas a long time ago, it's a great idea except one thing, timezones

So annoying spending time switching specs everytime I log off to avoid losing territories or war
For me that's rather a part of the game that adds variety. If I switch the class for some content, I should have a defensive profile for that class, or I will likely lose territories, particularly if I should forget to switch back. And I say that as somebody who is rather on the receiving end, often switching the classes.
I don't want that feature on territories, just kingdom wars tbh cause sometimes it's even 3-5 min as seeker on another class and that's enough to be sniped. I'll consider using my Dorado as seeker instead of bof so that I don't have to pump 150 al on the arcanist
I think in practice it just ends up being "do I want a worse build for pvp or pve right now" which can be really frustrating. Especially when countering builds is a large part of pvp success
But since I prioritize pvp build it usually works in reverse, really inhibits a lot of late game gilga content it not wanting to play bof in example, so if you want to run ranger for a particular matchup a lot of times just end up turning the game off until war over
You wouldn't know cuz as a gilg herc with 300+ als any spec or pet destroys 99% of players😂

I'm also in favor of having a set build/class/spec etc, that can sit on wars. It isn't good for a kingdom or individual when they can't play the game because they know as soon as they change, they get killed. Especially in defense of so many newer players that we keep referencing here as the target audience we don't want to shun away.
Ye I don't care too much about territories cuz I lose at most 5 before I switch into a defensive build, but there's so many opport to snipe my when I'm on seeker or rn when I'm farming arena with my al10 gursa lol
I stopped caring about war def cuz I don't wanna just sit in a class or spec or pet I don't wanna play waiting for an opponent that may never attack
Also wanna thank the folks at pursuit of gilia for allowing me to get the 40% crit 5 ward start, it's helped alot during dungeon grind where I'm playing mimic or penguin and don't normally start with war so I die easily
I don't care about defense in Territory or Conq either, I always message people when they are hitting me and try to get more taken so we can swap them more.
War is different for me though. Only thing I do try to defend.

I mean, I'm sure there's different brackets for kingdoms, likes ones with al100+ members will match into others with al100+ members and ones with 20-50 match similarly, but as you can see in that ss the mm just failed😂

There’s not a large enough player base for every war to be ultra close matchmaking wise, we’ve seen that already
Most of our recent matches have been pretty close and engaging, an odd one out every now and then isn’t the end of the world for anyone
Most of our recent matches are against the same 5 kingdoms lol
Yet somehow we are miles below the AL
Our kwar was also with huge AL gaps. In most matches you had around double of our AL, even for our <AL100 players.

I love that 10k kingdoms match make per day and we hit the exact same kingdom 4x in 48 hrs 
I highly doubt 10k kingdoms go through matchmaking every day. Not to mention power is highly consolidated in a relative small number of kingdoms, so if you broaden the matchmaking guardrails, most of the fights will just be stomp fests. That's how it used to be.

Getting matched up with the same ~5 kingdoms and having everyone face the same opponent every time is getting rather dull. Is this really what we want?
Maybe you’re just caught in a slow wars loop? Between yesterday and today we’ve matched at least 13 different kingdom (I might be missing a couple war screenshots that another officer took).
I get the point about always facing the same opponent, but I also think it brings another layer of competitiveness, since over time you’ll both be inevitably trying to adapt and counter one another. I do think maybe the system could first run the matchmaking it’s currently running and then shuffle players around for every three spots or so (so instead of having #2 v #2, #3 v #3, etc, we’d have #2 v #2-4, #5 v #5-7, etc). This would keep the aforementioned competitive layer while allowing wars to be a bit fresher still
If we want to prioritize matches that are highest AL vs highest AL, we will end up with repeat matchups - them’s the breaks
Perhaps? Maybe it's because Brysia is a relatively small kingdom with quite a range of ALs. I'd much rather get stomped by gigachads at this point than face the same opponents every day, I think trying to prioritize highest v highest AL is a mistake personally.
I like the idea Bordoadas suggested of expanding the range of potential opponents. (#2 v #2-4, #5 v #5-7, etc)
How long did it take for you to find an opponent after our war ended 7 hours ago? We’ve been in mm ever since that, which probably means that there are a lot less eligible opponents for us
It took 1 hour to match with ornate burrito, then it took 2 hours for the actual war
We’ve mostly been having 1h matchmakings, a few times it goes up to 2h. But we have a large range of ALs that allows us to get matched with more opponents.
I’m assuming you guys mostly get matched with kingdoms with enough AL100+ players or close to that
Yeah, 1h mm isn’t uncommon at all, but neither are the ones that last several hours

We have a 17 rank gap. Think it would be better not to focus it on rank but rather what the kingdom is fighting with, while putting the stronger members up front. Definitely won't be doing us well if a kingdom entirely made of AL20-60, with one unbenched outlier, is being put against Hlid, Burns, Jot, etc.
I don't think that's too bad tho, I mean over time the rankings will be adjusting accordingly or if a Kingdom can keep up in the leaderboard and be high enough it means they're all into the competition and can deal with being spanked every now and then maybe

The Rank Gap seems odd though, since you were seeing a non-top 100 kingdom getting repeat matched the other day with top 10s? @south timber
Just had that Kingdom yesterday and they aren't top100 just the king was high enough to keep up with us
Even with folk 2 players were enough for that to happen. Even 1 was enough with ,100 al
I believe the mass majority of players would appreciate the war system more if k.orns earned was determined by multiple factors. If a player wins offense, if a player wins defense, speed of kingdom side completion, overall win, and a bonus for if everyone's offense wins. I would rather someone make something than have empty efforts. The new system ties very very often. Almost enough that I want to question if the RNG is rigged in some way.
1st Proposed War to Compensation Suggestion - For discussion
Offense Win = 1,000 k.orn
Defense Win = 2,000 k.orn
War Completed in 1 hr = 100% k.orn bonus
War Completed in 2 hrs = 75% k.orn bonus
War Completed in 3 hrs = 50% k.orn bonus
War Completed in 4 hrs = 25% k.orn bonus
Every Offense Battle Won = 100% k.orn bonus
Every Defense Battle Won = 200% k.orn bonus
Old reward rules also still apply for win/draw/lose. These are suggested additional rewards.
It isn't as if withholding k.orn's will hurt anyone and this could offset the disdain many players have with the current War system.

Seems to me if you are getting a lot of ties, then the Matchmaking system is doing an excellent job of matching you with opponents who are good fights for you.

Yeah, no. We made our kingdom so that all but two members fall between 20-60 ALs, other kingdoms handle other ALs; to better match Odies match making rules that halfway work since kingdom ranking is also taken into consideration but still get matched with a full line of 100+ALs over all of my guys. But, now our wars are overall faster so it's quick win or quick lose unless it is a blatantly lazy kingdom or something close it is a tie. Both of those last hit items being a great reason to implement some additional ways to earn besides Winning overall. As complex as other things can be in this game, I don't see something like this being a problem in any way.

It's a recent bug, you get the swords of shame permanently and your kd can't start wars until it is patched

You should have the swords od shame on your kd icon, and once the war concludes officers will be unable to start a new one bc "a kingdom war has already been started"

We ended up getting them back to back a couple days ago, they dragged one to 24 hours, which ends up being 27 hours due to the timeout and the seemingly mandatory 1 hour MM'ing. Put us past the Kingdom cooldown and we got them again... we were sad.

Okay, this is getting to be a bit much... it happened again, back to back with Namba Wan. 24-hour timeout, which leads to 1 hour before being able to queue back up, another hour in matchmaking, so a full 26 hours before our next match with.... Namba Wan. Totally fun being taken out of wars for 2 days straight, yay.

Honestly, hate when I win a war and it literally makes things worse for everyone (draws). Second war in a row where I'm the last to battle and my victory causes a draw so nobody gets anything. I have to tactically lose to get more korns
Idk why it's more rewarding to lose a war than to tie a war
With smaller kingdoms, less people in wars means a greater chance of getting draws. While that's probably okay for kingdoms like mine, it's not great at all for lower tier kingdoms or smaller kingdoms that aren't assembled in places like discords
Surely making ties worth something would be an easy change to make
Wasn't there a mechanism to block back to back matches with the same kingdom? Or am I imagining things?
Technically there is, it's a 24-hour cooldown timer... which means nothing when a war goes all the way to a timeout, you can match again.
That actually explains why we got another match against Pursuit of Gillia. That seems to be a simple enough fix to increase the cooldown timer by 36 or 48 hours
Restrict kingdoms from being able to matchmake if a certain percentage of their roster hasn't logged on in 6+ hours 😄

it's those 3 on average, the others are dead accounts for sure
