I'll honestly never use a partial refund. I much prefer a total refund of materials and orns. I could care less about gold.

I believe the problem is with this isn't about the grind itself, it's about the towers in general.
As @west stratus mentioned, you need luck to even find a tower (even sometimes keys). So the cost to respec is already a luck problem.
And as @chilly cedar mentioned, towers are just time consuming, needs preparation, and unfun in general.
People know respeccing isn't p2w but (even tho some people don't want to acknowledge this) skipping a hellish grindfest or two with real money IS. A player will probably respec one time or two, not bcz they satisfied with the result, it's bcz even respeccing is needs rng based unfun grind. And then people just gonna start pay for it.
Making it so the player has to grind for orns and gold doesn't makes this a non-p2w system. You still skip a huge 'rng based unfun' grind with real money. And that's basically p2w.
Please don't do mind games or make it confusing than it already is.

I disagree, given that shrines can be frequently found when exploring. Even then, an experience/orn boost is ultimately based off of how you use it. At the moment the game's grind doesn't push for you to need to use them. Especially with newer activities that are available.
Change of Heart is a 300k tower shard cost, requiring one to slog though an HoA softport where you spent more time waiting for your character to finish bunny hopping than you do actually fighting things. Personally speaking, the more I have the play towers the more I find myself encouraged to take a nap. Especially since larger towers that give the bigger shard counts I pretty much have to plan ahead for since that's an 1+hr slog.
I genuinely hope that deep dungeons do not take this running around approach, or at least they don't in Orna.
If they do go with what seems to be the most popular option of full refunding ALs, I genuinely hope they remove it from the runeshop.

Given the amount of support on it, it should be fairly clear that a non-Tower offering would be made. So, I don't believe it's necessary to revive this topic - the votes have voiced community sentiment well enough.
There are many other places to offer feedback on Towers themselves, but the movement opinion has also made itself well documented.

It's probably some randomization seed based on something like the time and date you built your altar of ascension or created your character or something

We could see that ascension seed differs between beta and live.
But I guess ultimately it's fixed. So if you're cort-unlucky for Deity, you'll always be cort-unlucky for Deity.

re: bandaid - I can't say I can agree with that. A bandaid would be at attempt of fixing something (albeit in a quick-and-dirty way).
Ascension refunds aren't really fixing anything.
Players are getting bored, frustrated, and claustrophobic while locked into their ascended classes - even in the current ascension system - even without needing it changed. a refund allows them to have a chance at enjoying the game again. should we really deny them of that?
there is little to no performance advantage. using the refund to respec is days to weeks of work to grind back up. as ascension levels will be re-RNG'd on the new class, you're even potentially getting mat locked on an earlier level
the survey gave us some great feedback about how the majority of the playerbase wants to see ascension changes. imo, that is a different conversation and effort to this current one. this is not a bandaid in lieu of changes. this is an unrelated effort in my eyes.
feedback on the acquisition methods is very fair - thanks for all that! if and when we decide to go forward with it, we'll aim for a method to makes sense to as many of you as possible

I think accession refund should be 100% of what you put in, material and orn. Should be a new quest line and an end of gaunt reward. This games strength is that you can swap to any class or playstyle. The accession should be an extension of that

I'd personally like to see the option of a full refund along side a rework of the ascension cost structure which removes (or greatly mitigates) the impact of RNG.

I'm still in favor of no refunds but if refunds were offered, what if there was a block on re-ascending that same class for some period of time. Say perhaps a year? Since Ascension is basically you making an offering to the gods and them granting you power, perhaps they'd be offended by you rejecting their gifts capriciously. Thus unlikely to hear your pleas again for some time.

That will speed the grinds up while still considered fair to all of the player

If I'm doing the refund, I want my orns back too. Gold is abundant but I've spent more time than I care to admit (and the occasional dollar for a shrine of luck) grinding orns to only get the mats back.

Same. A refund that doesn't do 100% material and orn is the same as no refunds for me. Just too much investment to take those loses. I've actually been orn blocked more then mat blocked.
