People still play and enjoy skyrim over oblivion because of the massive engine improvements that were made between the two games, and the fact that Oblivion is now 14 years old.
Sure, Oblivion was a great game.
Skyrim is great, too. Morrowind was great once you buffed past the asinine dice roll combat and figured out how to escape from cliff racers.

In the same way that New Vegas's story was objectively better than Fallout 4, but I still would rather play fallout 4 over New Vegas because of engine improvements

I like oblivion because of the colour scheme and variety, oblivion gates were great too, it’s one of very few games I platinumed without trying.
Skyrim is too easy to break with smithing and there’s too much snow. Yeah you can up the difficulty but it should be balanced anyway

oblivion was a great game, there's a reason why mods to port over it's mechanics to skyrims engine exist, and why skyblivion still sees dev. it just suffers from running a way older engine, and never being remastered unlike skyrim
