Yes, this is very typical. Up through Stormy North Island (lightning treasure), the sovereign odds are pretty bearable. Starting from Snow South (snowman treasure), the odds drop considerably. You will need to get comfortable farming days/weeks on end at <0.05% find odds.
Be warned that seeing 0.01% odds doesn't actually mean you are at 0.01% find chance. 0.01 is simply the lowest displayed odds whereas your actual odds might be much lower.

How do I efficiently utilize the schematic 'First Try, I Swear!' in my Bravery story telling?
You can keep stacking the +10% max damage - so long as your last sword can one-shot the enemy. As soon as it fails to one-shot, you lose all stacked bonuses. Therefore, once you get to an enemy that your last sword might not one-shot, you will want to stop throwing the last sword entirely and rely on your other swords to keep pushing encounters while keeping the higher max damage - until you are forced to utilize your last sword. This will generally allow you to push several more encounters than what you would typically be capable of with your standard stats.
My strategy, generally, is to throw the last sword first until the enemy's HP is ~10-20% of my current max (you can risk it higher at cost of losing your stacked bonus) and run when the enemy's HP is ~2-3x my current max. I usually end up with a max sword damage roughly around 2-3x my actual max when I am able to properly stack the bonus.

When should I be resetting the Bell in the Hole?
At Engineering Level 11, you will unlock the 'Triple Tap Tinkle' schematic which gives a higher chance at +2 levels per ring with a new chance of +3 levels per ring. This is the first point at which it is recommended to do a Bell Reset.
Afterwards, you would only want/need to reset if the bonuses provided by Bell Rings have rng-ed into a bonus you do not want or failed to provide desired levels in bonus you do want. End-game lab setups need 6-8 people (depending on if you have w6 jewels), so you can adjust the amout of bears you have to swap for Nobi or something. Don't forget that bear still provides extra talent levels as a minor link bonus

You can also swap omni to something else if you're active and just swap it back when you claim afk

Right, so the way he works is when you claim afk time, you also get bonuses in 1 of 6 categories, always (with some exceptions for Monument/nothing afk requiring 1hr). Early on in the game, you typically need progress in all 6 of these areas.

As you progress further, some of these procs become less useful, either entirely (cooking/sailing/breeding) or only when you want to work on them (breeding/gaming). Eventually getting down to just 2 or 3 procs becoming useful. So the earlier you can use Omni, the better

What's the best way to get Evergreen/Chemical plant mutation in gaming?
Because genes have terrible scaling/diminishing returns in providing additional odds for getting the unlock - you want to make as many attempts as possible with lower odds. More rolls at low odds >>> fewer rolls at only ever so slightly better odds.
Generally recommended to not wait for more than ~1% for evergreen or ~0.1% for chemplant.
Be warned: it can still take you weeks or even months to unlock if you've upset the rng gods.
General strategy:

• harvest all -> make an attempt
• Have sprinkler charge? Use sprinkler -> harvest all -> make an attempt
• Have a log game game? Use log game -> harvest all -> make an attempt -> use sprinkler -> harvest all -> make an attempt
