Tanglewood D. 6 is the simplest map, W.St.13 has a bit more of a complex basement floor, but a simpler ground floor

I would highly recommend pushing the difficulty as soon as you can
while it 'sounds' like amateur is easy on paper, it's actually harder as the settings are so low the ghost itself is also unable to do anything, resulting in long slow games

learn the ropes with amateur until youre comfortable getting evidence. move to intermediate to learn more about sanity management. once youre comfortable, main professional. once you learn the ghost abilities you can start dabbling in nightmare. I wouldn't play insanity - just make a custom with professional preset then make evidence 1.

Start with amateur until you learn the equipment, but quickly move on
the breaker will start off on intermediate and higher but on small maps it takes 5 seconds to turn on, and once you have custom unlocked you balance your own game mode where you get the most out of your playstyle

the smudge effect starts at the beginning of the animation before it "lights". Sometime people smudge a ghost during the "grace" period at the beginning of the hunt and the smudge effect wears off before it impacts the ghost

We were well past the grace period. The smudge was burning when I died. I guess with a lot of bad time luck this could happen across server ticks, but that seems unlikely.
