Find the nests that make sort of a murmuring sound on the maps that have a nest sticker. If you find one, shine dots on it. That gives you event points. Optional objectives and getting the ghost right on those maps also give you points

At that level, I'd recommend just playing the game, focusing on survival and perhaps gathering media/doing objectives for that extra bit of money

Just play at the difficulty you can consistently survive. Don’t worry about high multipliers cause they don’t mean much if you keep dying. Also yeah go for perfect investigations when you can

In my opinion, the best way to level up is a mix of consistency and participation. The LFG tabs are a great place to get into groups, especially if they're advertising helping new players, because it won't be about speed running and they'll have the patience to explain. Educating yourself using the variety of tools (in-game as well as the phasmo cheat sheet) to benefit your knowledge of the game which in turn will also give you some confidence when either playing by yourself or with a group.

The basic jist though, truly, is just have fun playing the game, the more you enjoy it, the more leveling won't feel like a chore.

What is a good way to figure out if the ghost is quiet enough to be a Myling. On the cheat sheet it says about the 12m distance and I've used the map explorer to measure the distances but that never actually works and I can't hear normal ghosts when it says I should and I haven't noticed any difference when it is a Myling

Frequent firelight blow outs and events at high sanity 85%+. I was around 75-80% sanity when in ghost room when a half open door shut. Not during event/hunt. checked my sanity and I’m at 58%. I want to say Yurie but have been wrong plenty of times before about the door ability. Sorry for the long message. 🧡

If I recall, their stance is that post-processing software like re-shade is fine (which I think encompasses the linux version you are talking about), but its use-at-your-own-risk.
