woah, I have the weirdest visual bug I've ever seen in ~400h of play. during a hunt, my screen went almost completely black. Only the skybox is lit (as normal) - everything else is 100% black, to include my inventory items

every flame the Onryo blows out counts towards its continuous cycle of 3 per ability attempt. Ability is canceled if the ghost is under a smudge timer, setup time is still active, no one is in the map, or the ghost is already hunting.

Onryos also use flames as crucifixes, so what usually happens is players lose the count at some point, and what they think should be triggering the ability is actually the flame that is preventing the hunt attempt.

Not everyone is an expert at hunting. The only people it "saves time" for are players already entirely proficient at hunting, and even then the ghost can kill you just by walking into a hiding spot. There is risk with smudging, the risk is entirely reduced to zero with stopping a hunt. A good example of a QoL change is adding custom difficulty slots (still waiting for this), that's truly saving time.

Depends on your preference. T2 imo is better as the ghost still has movement giving you more distance when running away. T3 freezes the dumbass ghost in place but generally can be more dangerous in apoc 3 for example due to less distance gained.
