If it did exactly what a deo did and is no longer running directly to you, it's a mimic. Just make sure you are 100% confident the 'deo hunt' was infact a deo hunt and it slowed down when it got near you

Yeah make sure to double check little nooks and crannies, and stare for a good minute (perfect time for a snack break). I dont think there's any way for you to 'force' a new 'location' for the orbs. But if we're missing something, orbs, writing, freezing, we can usually get it after a hunt so...
