Alright, I've got a question since I'm still a hella new player and trying to get my first perfect hunt. I've got the ghost locked in, i know exactly which one it is, I'm still at 97% sanity with summoning circle, i know a tier 1 crucifix cant stop a cursed hunt and if i remember correctly the ghost will immediately start a cursed hunt after the event once you light all the candles on the circle, one of my objectives is to prevent the ghost from hunting with a crucifix. i wont be able to do that if it hunts AFTER the hunt from the summoning circle, will i? what should my course of action be here?

hi, yeah, what I would do is light about half the candles and then go check your sanity.
the cursed hunt won't do you any favors here. but the candles will lower your sanity and get you closer to a regular hunt. so keep the cruci in the ghost room, and don't light all the candles.

Depending on the ghost. Demons have a 20 second cooldown. The rest have 25! And then hunt duration depends on difficulty and such. And if someone uses a cursed item then that overrides it haha

If the ghost walks out of the room and firelight goes out, shade is possible, but if the firelight goes out while the ghost is in the room (ie the beep of motion sensor doesnt go off) its not shade

when you go to place (not throw, but actually place) the cruci, you'll be able to see a white circle of range.
ghost has to be in that range when it hunts, like Billy said. even if it's in your hand, it still has that range.

Crucifix only works if the ghost starts the hunt from within the circle (unless its a demon then its a lil further than the circle. If a ghost did a ghost event outside the room and then immediately does a hunt it will start from where the ghost event was. Also wraiths love doing this too cause teleport go brrrrrrrt

The focus should always be on the ghost type, since that's worth the most and unlocks the Investigation Bonus. Then the objectives, which also go into the bonus (all pre-multiplier). Photos and the bone are required for a perfect game bonus, but they are not worth much themselves, and the perfect bonus itself isn't very substantial.

Ghost writing is a hard one to rule out.

Like Orbs, if you know the room, you don't see them? Boom. Rule out.
UV, hear it touch things, don't see the prints? Probably doesn't have it.

Writing you kinda got to wait for it to either write or throw the book. Sometimes it just takes forever.

dots is only effective if the ghost has dots as an evidence.

You can find the ghost room by temperature, it'll be colder than other rooms if the breaker has been on long enough

You can look for stuff on the ground that shouldn't be like paintings, plates, or whatever else; means the ghost has passed by

You can listen for doors being touched

You can close all the interior doors and look for ones that are slightly ajar, means the ghost opened them

under the stairs is one, look for closets or stacked boxes with space behind.
It's generally a good idea to take some time at the start to identify where to hide so you can have a plan

Running away only will get you killed, unless it's a deogen but don't worry about that for now they don't happen until level 30

The ghost will disappear when the hunt is over, how long the hunt lasts is determined by your difficulty settings

remember that ghosts can know where you are by electronic equipment, if you are going to hide in a hiding spot make sure you turn off your flashlight before you go into the spot

it shows as you're placing you'll see a ring of white around you. in a small room, you might not see it, as it covers the whole room.
and as Vandelay said, that cruci range only matters for where the ghost is as it's starting to hunt. it doesn't matter where you are. if the ghost is outside the range, you'll get a hunt. if it's inside, it'll be stopped.
it doesn't stop you from dying mid-hunt either.
