The best way to tell if a breaker really turned off is looking at the light switches. If the lights are off, but the light switches are still up, that means the breaker got turned off by the ghost.

If all the lights turned off after you turn on a light and you hear all the light switches that were on suddenly flip off also, the breaker just tripped.

so when you're hiding, don't talk, turn whatever electronic you're holding, or hold out something non-electronic (turn off headgear too), and make sure the ghost didn't see you enter the hiding spot. If the ghost detects you at anypoint, it drops a waypoint at the location it detected you at and goes straight there. if you're not there when it arrives and it doesn't know where you are at this point it will just wander randomly until it detects someone

yeah if you get the ghost event where it's a ball of air floating toward a player you can rule out oni because oni prefers to do ghost events where it presents itself as an actual ghost and not a ball of air

it will never do the air ball event

if it does, and you know it was an oni, it's a mimic instead

mimicked an oni, then swapped to another ghost that CAN do the airball
