Closet and locker doors yes you want to kinda tuck yourself in right in the closet and you can hold just one side shut if you do it right then when the ghost is naturally walking by they won't open it up however both closets and lockers can be ripped out of your hand if the ghost knows you're there for any reason it's saw you go in it heard an open microphone and you have an electronic on or had an electronic on as you went in there

If you want some decent tips it can be handy to watch some videos on ghost differences and stuff, but most of the time, keep lights on in rooms you're in or on the path to the ghost room, ghost room will most likely be the one where stuff is getting thrown and will almost always be 2+ degrees cooler (Celsius) than the others, and try to keep smudges on you for hunts. Most ghosts hunt at 50 sanity, but there are some exceptions for higher and lower sanity and the demon ability.

I always turn on the lights on the entry way and big rooms that I'll visit often. Lights can be super helpful to identify hunts too as they'll start flashing but it'll mostly be silent until the footsteps start or it's close to you and you hear heartbeat. The ghost will sometimes make groaning, humming, or breathing sounds while hunting, but if there's a lot of sound immediately it's normally not a hunt, unless those sounds are your equipment freaking out.

If lights start flashing red is not a hunt, but a cool event. And if you see the ghost walking toward you but the lights aren't flashing odds are it's an event. Singing events cause flashing lights though, but you'll hear the ghost and it'll be standing still. This can be a good time to take pictures or just watch it be cool.

Best advice though, if you can't identify if it's a hunt, just assume it is and hide. Try not to panic smudge, but if it's following you and lights are flashing better safe than sorry.

After the hunt or event though ghosts can leave some evidence, like emf 5. Also where the ghost was standing during the event can immediately be used for spirit box, but only for a short time. Doors and windows touched during hunts can be used for uv, etc

Also if using salt to confirm a wraith make sure the ghost actually stepped over it, next to it doesn't count

I understand how the aging process works if someone’s in the same room as it - but does that mean that if you’re never in the same room as it it will always move at 2.75m/s or will it age slowly / slowly change speeds without players in the same room? Thanks

Pretty sure you have to be near the ghost in order for it to age

it actually ages if youre nearby the ghost so you could also be in another room but still close (or in the same room but far and it wont age),
also no it will never age if youre never nearby

Prof has a 3s grace period, so when you start hearing noises/seeing lights flash run immediately. Better to run from an event than stand around during a hunt. Also, it wouldn't have helped in that game, but once you've had a hunt, the sound will always be the same for that round, so you know which sound to listen for.
