If we follow the phasmo wiki's estimation for ghost activities, there is a 50% chance for the ghost to be idle or to do something. there is a 30% chance for the ghost to interact with stuff, and there is 25% chance for an evidence to be EMF 5.

if you follow this all and get 10 interactions consecutively and it becomes emf 5 (including turning off the breaker) there is a 5.5x10^-13% chance for that to happen

Yeah the smudge timer would run alongside the hunt timer. So let's say it's a 50 second hunt and you smudge 10 seconds in, the hunt ends after 40 seconds but that 40 seconds also counts toward the 60 second(demon)/90 second (most ghosts)/180 second (spirit) timer.

But also remember that ghosts choose when to hunt. It's not like you can necessarily rule out demon 100% if 60 seconds passes and it didn't immediately hunt. It could just be a pain and wait longer to hunt. RNG is lovely like that 😛
