I was always told that if it curves down it means nothing but if it curves up then it's likely a twin interaction. So in this case the curve goes down with the activity and thus isn't a positive twin.

I've had the cleanse objective work during hunts. What I think happened is that because it was on the stairs when I smudged, and the hunt ended less than a second later, it teleported away before it could count for the objective. It was towards the bottom of the stairs too which may have helped with that.

Weather does not affect Freezing Temperatures. Only ambient temperature - the place will be colder if it's snowing, for example, but freezing is still freezing.

For the tier 1 thermometer, the mercury needs to clearly go below 0 C for it to count as Freezing, as shown:

A coincidence doesn't mean a mechanic. I am glad it has worked for you in your experience but it is not a 100% guaranteed thing, in fact the devs have previously made updates to it to make it LESS reliable, and as more and more people claim it is reliable, I am sure more is to come
