if a site is malicious and you interact with it, its a recipe for disaster. sorry if i dont have any further info to back up my claim, its stuff i heard multiple times from trusted people here, but havent looked into more atm

Def not using windows defender to make the scan, use an antivirus even if theyre bad and intrusive, can also just be uninstalled after

defender is just prevention. if you are already infected the malware can just disable it or make itself exempt from scans
or Defender itself can be the access point
