#

hm

#

i think i'm sold, but only if you make all the types "standard, with a twist"

#

so it doesn't say shit about your buzzwole's blood type, but you find out that it is AU Fighting

fickle thicket
#

I think you could honestly just do anything, so long as you avoid creating Resistances Georg

languid lichen
#

which means a mostly similar but slightly different chart

#

you give Nihilego Rock/Dream, and go "what the fuck is that" and find out that it's AU Poison *and* Psychic

fickle thicket
#

could you imagine a type with 10 resistances? lmao

languid lichen
#

but just like, parts of both

#

used to be 12

#

well, 11 and poison

#

hm, yeah, no i like this, especially because they don't all need to be different

#

xurkitree just is electric

#

pheromosa can stay bug/fighting, celesteela can stay steel/flying

#

but then you make blacephalon Light, which people have been clamoring about forever

pliant violet
#

you could even make this work through abilities

fickle thicket
pliant violet
#

I think it's cute but it's a bit of an accessibility pain

#

also at that point we had the moves tell us what is super effective iirc, which sorta nullifies the exploration point

fickle thicket
#

accessibility? how so?

pliant violet
#

a unique thing to remember for a singular pokemon is a pain in the ass

fickle thicket
#

I mean, as if signature abilities don't already exist

#

there's plenty of things you need to remember for a singular pokémon

quiet galleon
#

They were in swsh dlc

fickle thicket
#

oh
and I even checked bulbapedia to make sure before I said that

quiet galleon
#

Many such cases :(

languid lichen
timber vale
#

I feel like literally every past paradox and ultra beast could've gotten a cool and thematic separate ability

Maybe future paradox as well

#

Xurkitree could absolutely have transistor

I don't think it'd realistically change much because it already has absurd shit going on in its special attack

give it an ability that makes its electric type attacks turn immunity from type and abilities into resistance

#

Pheromosa would do Queenly Majesty well, I think?

#

Buzzwole could have guts

#

I might give Celesteela flare boost?

#

Kartana is sharpness. Nuff said.

pliant violet
#

cutting edge idea

languid lichen
#

scarftana becomes even more of a nightmare if it just cleaves through non-quad resistance like butter

#

and transistor xurk is, while not the same issue as eleki's 200 fucking speed, a similar place as The Chi-Yi Moment

languid lichen
#

or wait nevermind transistor got nerfed to 30%

#

just strong not fuckbroken anymore

#

would still 2-shot a blob, but only after rocks

timber vale
#

Also Xurkitree's speed is low enough for it to not have been able to reach OU when it's been in the game

quiet galleon
#

I kinda like the concept honestly

timber vale
#

Chi-yu at least reaches a 100 base, versus Xurkitree's... what, 73?

timber vale
pliant violet
#

I am setting the lava goldfish on you

quiet galleon
#

Same ability pokemon

timber vale
#

Fair

quiet galleon
#

And like a set of pokemon designed to exist for a limited period of time

#

And do something really weird that doesnt work so well for a regular pokemon

timber vale
#

I kind of do, kind of don't

Mainly just because I don't want my favorites to just disappear from the future gens

languid lichen
timber vale
#

Yeah still low regardless

#

Low enough to balance out Tail Glow + 173 Sp. Atk

timber vale
languid lichen
#

blacephalon is a funny fucker

#

mind blown is a very entertaining move

timber vale
#

Iirc Blacephalon and Xurkitree have like. A deeply unserious beef between the two

#

I love them for that

#

Their designs are incredible and I adore them

azure crane
#

Yeah, I think the Paradox Pokemon and Ultra Beasts that continue existing in the world should get thematic Hidden Abilities.

arctic dagger
#

Yeah.

azure crane
#

Guzzlord should definitely have Gluttony.

arctic dagger
#

Ultra Beast Abilities -
Nihilego: Dry Skin
Buzzwole: Guts
Pheramosa: Queenly Majesty
Xurkitree: Transistor
Celesteela: Grass Type Steelworker
Kartana: Sharpness
Guzzlord: Gluttony + Cud Chew combined ability
Naganadel: Levitate
Stakataka: Analytic
Blacephalon: Dazzling

Past Paradox Pokemon Abilities:
Great Tusk: Intimidate
Scream Tail: Punk Rock(Renamed)
Brute Bonnet: Regenerator
Flutter Mane: Prankster
Slither Wing: Thermal Exchange(Rename)
Sandy Shocks: Sand Stream
Roaring Moon: Dark Aura
Walking Wake: Swift Swim
Gouging Fire: Strong Jaw
Raging Bolt: Electric Surge? Something new?

Future Paradox Pokemon Abilities:
Iron Treads: Heavy Metal
Iron Bundle: Storm Drain
Iron Hands: Iron Fist
Iron Jugulis: Berserk
Iron Moth: Merciless
Iron Thorns: Iron Barbs
Iron Valiant: Defiant
Iron Leaves: Grassy Surge
Iron Boulder: Solid Rock
Iron Crown: Something new? IDK

near flower
#

isnt there a voice-based ability that scream tail could take?

arctic dagger
#

Soundproof, Punk Rock

#

Are the ones I think of offhand

near flower
#

punk rock was the one i was thinking of

arctic dagger
#

Punk Rock would help with.... Boomburst, Hyper Voice, Psychic Noise that it learns?

#

I'd porobably give it Alluring Voice too so it has STAB for sound for both

#

It's a good callout tho'

near flower
#

ill admit i wasnt even thinking about whether it had viable sound moves at all i just thought 'well it's prehistoric* jiggly with 'scream' in the name. feels appropriate to have a sound ability if it were given a different ability than the paradox generic'
*not actually prehistoric, probably

arctic dagger
#

Eh it's supposed to give prehistoric vibes

#

And honestly psychic noice plus boomburst or hyper voice is probably enough for that to still be pretty good

timber vale
arctic dagger
#

XD

snow wren
#

Then ironhands gets sheer force

#

Then they give brute bonnet insomnia or something

arctic dagger
#

Uh, I can add Sheer Force to Iron Hands, why Insomnia on Brute Bonnet?

#

Ok I went through the whole move list

#

REduced most of them to one move, there's aa few I don't really have any strong feelings on

#

For Celesteela I ended up making a new ability for it, a grass type steelworker, after reading its lore and looking at its movelist

#

It VERY clearly has a strong 3rd type of grass

#

I'm also not super happy with Iron Crown or Raging Bolt

arctic dagger
#

For Slither Wing I ended up on Thermal Exchange because I think it would be pretty interesting since its related to a Fire type anyway, and its typing is soooo bad defensively anyway

#

4x weak to flying and 2x to psychic and fairy is already pretty rough

#

Swapping the fire vuln to an immune is a neat callout to Volcarona

peak island
#

What does the ability Transistor do btw?

arctic dagger
arctic dagger
#

It's honestly not SUPER interesting, I was thinking Electric Surge instead would be more interesting and better but it honestly doesn't need it so Transistor is fine

peak island
#

Ah

arctic dagger
#

It's already a very strong 'mon

#

And Beast Boost is great for its role, so it might just continue to use that anyway.

#

A lot of the attacking Ultra Beasts even with a different hidden ability will just continue to use Beast Boost

#

Same with the attacking Paradox pokemon

#

So I tried to lean more fluffy and interesting, and give the stronger abilities to the ones who maybe want to be defensive anyway

peak island
#

It would be cool if they had "true abilities" that could be restored

timber vale
#

Realistically magic bounce wouldn't be that bad on it either, as it's not too tanky

peak island
#

I feel like the more tank focused beasts could use abilities mainly

arctic dagger
#

Yeah, exactly.

#

Dry Skin on Nihilego I'm pretty happy about. It's supposed to be related with the deep oceans, but is weak to water otherwise.

#

So that helps it a lot

peak island
#

What's it's typing again btw?

arctic dagger
#

Rock/Poison

peak island
#

Yea

#

I remember it being something completely unexpected

arctic dagger
#

It still only has 47 defense so like

#

It melts to its 4x ground weakness still

#

I considered giving it levitate to counteract that, which would make sense because it DOES levitate, but I think covering the water weakness and giving the flying poison/dragon levitate made more sense

#

But again both are pretty fast attackers mostly, so they'll probalby just continue to use Boost Boost regardless

peak island
#

Something I kinda liked about the Ultra Beasts and Paradoxes is how they mess with your understanding of typings to throw you off if you're unfamiliar with them

arctic dagger
#

Pheramosa might use Queenly Majesty just because it's already fast as fuck and has terrible defenses, so even though Beast Boost is quite good on it, it's SO weak to priority moves

#

That one was a great call and fits it perfectly

#

It would be really awkward for closed sheet formats though not knowing if you need to hit the Pheramosa with priority or not

arctic dagger
#

They often don't LOOK like what types they are

#

Like pretty much every Future Paradox pokemon looks like it probably should be steel type

#

But legit it's just Iron Treads and Iron Crown

#

Esp. because they're named "Iron ____"

peak island
#

Isn't the future Paradox of Volcarona like Poison/Electric too?

#

I remember it being something entirely unexpected

arctic dagger
#

Poison/Fire

#

Generally speaking Paradox pokemon keep one of the two base pokemons types

#

Slither Wing keeps bug, Iron Moth keeps Fire

#

The Donphan variants both ofc have Ground because Donphan only has one type

peak island
#

Ah

arctic dagger
#

Any recommendations on Brute Bonnet?

#

I'm tempted to give it like, Filter or something, it's a slower pokemon with horrific defensive typing

timber vale
#

I'm dubious on if Filter could even save it

arctic dagger
#

Yeah, me too.

#

But like, we can't give them like Prankster or soemthing because it has Spore. Like it COULD be theoretically really scary maybe but

timber vale
#

isn't Brute Bonnet designed in such a way that like

#

it physically cannot get speed protosynthesis

mellow robin
#

iirc yeah

arctic dagger
#

It's

#

So sad

timber vale
#

its bulk statline isn't even bad!

#

it just has shit typing

arctic dagger
#

Yeah it has great stats

timber vale
#

that is a solid bulky physical attacker/support, no?

#

it just

#

dies to u-turn

arctic dagger
#

But 100 extra stats, with 40 of it in attack and 25 in speed, is not worth all those extra weaknesses compared to normal Amoongus

timber vale
#

"hi yes I would like a quarter of the stat improvements to be in speed. what will I outspeed in comparison? nothing relevant."

arctic dagger
#

It turns its psychic weak into an immunity and gains ground and ghost resists for: 4x bug weak instead of normal, 2x fighting instead of resist, 2x poison weak instead of resist, 2x fairy weak instead of resist

#

It has 3 less hp, and about 20 more def and spdef

#

Which is nice!

#

But uh, not worth it

#

Oh, y'know, I'm just gonna give it Regenerator like Amoongus has

#

It still won't be good but hey

snow wren
arctic dagger
#

Ah ok

#

It does sometimes run Ice Punch and Thunder Punch

#

So Sheer Force would be decent there

#

But I think Iron Fist is more interesting for Drain Punch/Thunder Punch/Ice Punch set

#

And IDK if it would run either over just taking a Booster Energy for the attack boost

#

Eh it probably would actually

#

It's only a 30% attack boost, and if it really wants it can just run Punching Glove with Iron Fist for a 32% boost on all 3 punching moves

#

But then being vulnerable to knockoff/polt kinda stuff

snow wren
#

It’s a bit too good for sheer force
That ability makes 450 Pokémon usable and iron hands is already a beast

arctic dagger
#

I mean sheer force is only a 30% boost, which is what Booster Energy is, but getting the item slot IS a big deal so it could run a scarf or something maybe

#

It really likes Drain Punch though, which Sheer Force kinda screws

#

And its other set, Close Combat/Supercell Slam, doesn't benefit from Sheer Force basically at all

snow wren
#

I got huge power and sheer force mixed up

arctic dagger
#

Ohhh. Yes.

#

Huge Power would be insane lmao

yeah the steelix is real neat for that

m-steelix doesnt care about like, m-aero and such which are hot picks rn

wide guard is evergreen, the heavy slam kills a lot of neat targets

mellow robin

I wonder what the high horsepower vs sneaseler calc looks like

probably quite good

okay yeah even non-mega survives cc, no sturdy needed, then kos

I expect it's M-Ttar vs M-Char and M-Steelix vs most other things

maybe

I could see non-mega Tar for the sand force boost maybe

none of his team is sash which I feel suggests more tar use

and weather control is nice

Yeah, you can absolutely run non-mega Ttar still as pretty good.

does steelix not get gyro ball anymore?

or is gyro ball weaker against something in the meta?

pliant violet

I don’t know that gyro ball is in champions

arctic dagger

Nah it has it

#

It might be because of trick room teams?

There's enough of those that gyro ball might be doing less damage

soft isleBOT
#

It's 2013 all over again sweating

arctic dagger
#

So important note

#

Talonflame outspeeds Whims

#

Hmm, it doesn't kill it though even if it's adamant unless whims has 168 or less EVs in def if it has a +def nature.

#

Do we know what the normal whims nature/EV set is right now?

#

If it's not a def nature it's usually a 50%+ chance of an OHKO on whims, and being faster than it in priority

fickle thicket
#

i guess a choice scarf doesn't pay off as well in doubles

arctic dagger
#

Depends on the user

soft isleBOT

I mean it's not like it's a hard trick room team, it's running sneasler

snow wren

it's a very weird team, looking forwards to seeing how it works

arctic dagger
#

So probably a one tap of the sash at least

languid lichen
#

too bad dual wingbeat isn't good enough

#

if only it was 50-ish bp sadcowboy

arctic dagger
#

Yeah even Brave Bird only has like a 50% chance to kill if Whims has even split defensive investment

languid lichen
#

32+ Atk Sharp Beak Gale Wings Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 32 HP / 32+ Def Whimsicott: 158-188 (94.6 - 112.5%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

#

unless the levels or calcs are wrong

#

and ofc this is max investment on both, which i think isn't the usual build for either

arctic dagger
#

Oh I had forgotten the Sharp Beak, yeaah

#

Sharp Beak makes it WAY more reliable

snow wren
#

I wonder if the calcs are banking on whims usually being scarfed and therefor 1 shotting it isn't that important

pliant violet
#

You don’t scarf whims

snow wren
#

Sorry dash

#

Sash is a word autocorrect

umbral hound
#

Dual Wingbeat is also okay with Technician for what it's worth. Which is meaningful since that's Scizor's flying coverage, I think? And... Fezandipiti?

arctic dagger
#

Dual Wingbeat is often also more relevantly Aero's flying coverage

languid lichen
#

yeah, it's effectively an 80-ish bp move, just

#

80bp 90 acc ain't my fave

#

i wish it was slightly stronger

pliant violet
#

DW on aero lets it take out sash sneasler

snow wren
#

snealer very fragile and rarely has defensive evs, most super effective moves should ohki

arctic dagger
#

Yeah but you need something like dwb to kill through sash

snow wren
#

the reason I see so much twin beam

quiet galleon
#

Whims is often not running sash now so you can have sash glimmora

azure crane
#

snow wren

Thought mega glam was being used more

snow cobalt
snow wren
#

just found out tat the hoenn special was a term

snow wren
#

huh, brute bonnet gets spore, and yet its reagrded as one of the worst of the paradox mons

arctic dagger
#

It doesn't have the typing to be any good as a utility pokemon

#

Grass/Dark 4x weak to bug, weak to too many other good offensive types, not tanky enough for such a rough typing to be good as a slow utility pokemon.

#

Amoongus does the same job but better because its typing is better and a ton of the stat advantages Brute Bonnet has over it are in places that are useless for that role like atk and a little bit of speed on a pokemon that's already not outspeeding anything.

#

And it's rough for its ability to do much but boost attack, which also doesn't matter for the role

#

As where Regenerator is, well, Regenerator.

#

And Amoongus gets an item on top of that

#

XD

snow wren
#

It’d probably be one of the few paradox mobs that would be better with a hidden

arctic dagger
#

Yeah, that was my conclusion when I was going over hiddens. There's a few of them that could have interesting side grades potentially, but the ability is SO STRONG usually that you don't really want to give them abilities that are actually better for them.

pliant violet
