#GRIMM & SONS - WORKING FOR THE PROMISED LAND
2390 messages · Page 3 of 3 (latest)
Makes sense, but it's always worth to ask.
I'm making a character with the "NHP Crew" idea, and the "-CLASS" on Gumdoll made my brain go monke.
It's strong, I might get it anyways, but you know.
Oh, and, of course, I loved Scheherazade. Such a cool Frame, I wanna marry Dinazade, it's lovely.
In bomberman builds it go nuts.
hello grimms and assorted sons! a player asked to test out 1.0.3.'s Morgiana Revolvers yesterday.
His LL3 raleigh mounted 5 of them - 2 in the aux/aux and flex mounts each, and then the integrated mount.
His barrage fully unloaded all 5 morgianas for 7 flat damage each, for a total of 35 damage per round. high armor, which usually is a heavy deterrent for auxiliary weapon builds, did nothing to stop him as even high armor targets like pyros and bastions had 4 overspill damage per attack and died in 3 shots each.
he was close enough to enemies to make every morgiana attack at permanent accuracy ignoring cover (vanguard), and the most common way to spend his offturns was looking for more targets to instantly delete.
past the first turn, gunslinger 3 and roland chamber proceeded to further trivialise my sitrep, making the other players feel sidelined a lot. the build steamrolled everything i could throw at it.
i think he ended the sitrep with around 10 kills to his own, all of which were scored in one attack with the exception of 3 veterans. every barrage took one structure off an enemy at least.
the build, for reference:

please do something about these
that's much better. anyone know when that change is gonna go into the lcp?
cause my 1.0.3. still has them as auxiliaries
oh would you look at that
ive grown forgetful in my old days
😭😭😭 we all do it sometimes dont worry
Oh, there's an update coming?
And I have a question. Both mines in Scheherazade's kit do not display their ranges. Is it my version of the LCP that's lacking it?
I’ll be real LCPs are hard to make? They should probably be there but? Fuck me if i know why they aren’t
Keep it cool, ma'am. You'll make it.
A little lore-ish thing. How would Dinazade roleplay? I liked it A LOT and want some og insights on it.
I thought of something like Kyubey in the sense of the ominous all-knowing, hiding little facts behind logic monkey's paws and maybe kinda satiric with it.
I always try to keep the tone for Mirror stuff very dry? Declarative!
The mirror states what it thinks are facts, based one its ideals of predestination
What has happened will happen must happen
DINAZADE is a mirror, it reflects, to look at a reflection is to see where you stand
I know folks like to use DINAZADE as a “mirror” to the pilot, it looks and talks like them, editing and warping the things they say and do into new contexts
Oh, I understand. It's all coming together.
im glad you grok strange space magicks
I got an idea. Thank you very much, Delilah! By the way, loved G&S, my favorite unofficial expansion.
Ofc, it was love at first sight. Scheherazade is such a lovely control freak.
lcps are pain
lmao
can confirm, it is hell
Hey I got a quick question for everyone. How would you build the Jack?
I’d pick up HA parts to help it manage its heat toys better :3
If you’re not using the in-license weapons, it may actually be one of the best superheavy users, given all the actionless mobility it has
put a big bend on it cmon be cool
I was honestly thinking of something like a CPR or the Stinger sniper rifle from wall flower. Any other Super heavies?
Tempest Charged Blade or COMBAT DRILL
Plasma Thrower would rip
also gets you requisite HA LLs and other heat management tricks
is G&S Dustgrave compatible actually? (We do not know)
Idk fuck if i know
I ain’t read it and didn’t design it with anything but like
Corebook and the two fieldguides
Those are what I balanced against
Jack is the one with Scathach?
I think I would go Vlad just for the sakes of bonking. Maybe you could make something with the big striker bois like Enkidu.
I think I like the idea of Vlad and Enkidu on this little fella. The problem is the low SP.
Oh sorry, I was thinking backwards.
I think Jack already has the tools it needs. Maybe just put some Genghis pieces to vent heat.
What I was trying to come up with was an Enkidu or Vlad with Scathach. Maybe one of the LL 1's too..?
I was thinking of it bc Scat is a Scylla but more agressive and reliable.
I mean, it doesn't bites your back if you're in the middle of action...
is there a working lore doc we can see on like, what ideas there are for lonely cradle and its clans so far?
This is a little off-topic but is there any news on Shadow of Gehenna.
this is the only place where I have seen it mentioned
message to ping my question again sorry
you would be better off asking them, not us
ok sorry for being annoying
I just noticed that the "Big Bend" pilebunker is based off the JUDGEMENT class pilebunker - the one the infamous Yagga Heavy Industries Dragga carries
Oh I see
hi! the system of wage-capital destroyed my ability to be happy with/work on G&S but here's the LCP that should have everything
Sorry to hear that
I feel that. Im glad to see that in some degree you're still working on g+s, but don't push yourself when stuffs already hard 💚
Alright so I got one more story
Is a bit of a text wall but
Hopefully you all enjoy
The Silverbones.
The Blessed By The Mountain.
Kane looked at the sight of Lonely Cradle coming up slowly on the monitor.
A feeling of emptiness. A hole he filled with a wanderlust that never seemed to quite fill his soul. He looked at the battered old hat, with one side of the brim buttoned up, giving the hat a lopsided cavalry hat look. He felt at the many silver bangles on his leather jacket. It was to the point his jacket had ridged silver sleeves.
His hand then drifted to the buckle on his belt. The crest of the bullet clan was there, simply worn to the point it took more than a simple glance to get an idea of what was on it.
Kane Rockstansky touched his cheek with a calloused, cracked, dry hand. His face was rough with scars. His hand rough with callouses and cracks.
Did he truly belong in this place?
He wondered if the clans would accept him again.
The home he knew was long gone. The people he knew. Long dead.
The clans as he knew them, long changed.
He had been looking down at the floor so long he didn't notice the ship landing.
He looked up, starting as soon as the ship shuddered and rocked. Breath fast, muscles tense.
Then he saw nothing of a threat. He then slowly walked to the hat, and turned it over in his hands before sighing, and putting it on.
It felt wrong.
He hadn't worn it in so long.
Stepping off the ship, Lonely Cradle was more built up than he remembered. The Dirge was being loaded into the Mech hangar. And Kane....
He didn't pay it mind. For once.
What was this feeling?
This feeling of....
Peace.
Kane had not been at true peace for so long that he forgot what it felt like to be... Calm. He looked up at the sky.
White, puffy clouds drifted slowly overhead. Although the place was packed, Kane felt isolate. Alone. A relic in the presence of so many new people. People who had not seen their hundredth birthday come and go.
People who had not felt the ravage of time slowly eat away at everything they knew.
Kane felt alone.
"Hey, Mister?"
Kane looked down, at a rather young clanner. From the Grimm clan. He could tell by the belt and the bangles that she wasn't very old.
"You look like you have something you're thinking about. Something real important. What's up?"
Kane felt his face sag. Had he been so engrossed in his thoughts that he didn't notice her? He blinked, and looked down, tipping his hat to avoid looking her in her bright, shiny hazel eyes. "It's... Been a long time since I've been here."
The girl pushed a lock of her ping brown hair from her eyes. "Yeah, you look like you been to more than one rodeo. Can't believe someone has that many bangles. You are real old, Mister. What's your name? My name is Rebecca, what's yours?" She held out a hand for Kane to shake. It was smooth. He stared at it for a long time before slowly, tentatively, shook her hand. And then he pulled Rebecca into a hug, a tight one.
"My, you're forward! You okay?"
Kane let go, and stepped back, tears in his eyes. "My name is Kane. I don't think.... That I belong here, anymore...."```
What's the state of the pdf currently?
So, just sort of a casual note - I think it might be good to give the Reactor Reinforcement Rebuild some further love? I like the direction it's going in, but in 4 playtests worth of fights now I've yet to see players... pick it.
Lots of BENIMBLE, but I think we've talked about that one's problems before. Have seen people go for Clanner's Pride, BIGFOOT, Rockstansky so far. David seems perfectly good, just a very specialized one so I've not seen it hit the field as well yet.
I do wonder about Loading tricks/incentives/rewards, given the manufacturer's predilection for them. 8 Loading weapons across 10 licenses, with there being plenty of food in the core bonuses for Dorothy & Orlando already as the only ones without Loading weapons.
hey, just checking in for a rule clarification
the Shoulder Tackle feature of the G&S Max says: "The Max counts a Size 3 for Ram attacks and on a successful Ram may immediately Slide 2 spaces."
pairing that with Brawler Casing, which allows us to Ram when Overwatch is procced, does that mean we can move at least 2 spaces to close the distance and then Ram the enemy if Overwatch is procced?
sure thing! Honestly really excited to take this boy for a spin lmao
Some thoughts on the Max now that I've gotten to play it- this thing is so much fun when you pair it with Juggernaut. I think an investment with Brawler would make it also a teensy bit more optimal, but just ramming things is astonishingly fun
I think, in keeping with its shared ability with the Enkidu, that if the Core Protocol is activated and no target is successfully destroyed by the Demolition Mark, the Core P. cost should be refunded at the end of an encounter tho
in addition, the phrasing of the Rowdy Kick Reaction from the Wild Bronco Reflex Module seems a bit odd to me. "Trigger: A character attempts to Grapple you. Effect: They have +1 Difficulty on the grapple attempt. If they fail, they take 3 Kinetic damage and are knocked 2 spaces directly away from you. This reaction resolves before they roll for the grapple." Don't they have to roll first for the Difficulty to take effect, or is this just ensuring that the reader knows that, yes, Rowdy Kick occurs before the Grapple happens and will determined whether it exists or not
one last thing- Brawler Caging: "When a target triggers your Overwatch, you may use your action to Ram rather than Skirmish". Paired with Frame Trait Shoulder Tackle, perhaps it might be best to explicitly state in Brawler Caging that you may slide before Ramming, then prospective players can best take advantage of the Max's incredible mobility
in terms of the actual performance tho, got to run the Max on a Gauntlet map, and for half the mission it was essentially holding the line by itself
excellent niche, fun loop, really enjoyed my time with it and I would carry it into higher LLs
(the Max is up there holding the CZ on the giant enemy crab)
It’s a matter of timing, so that the difficulty applies to the triggering roll
This is one of those things where I don’t want to add that text, as it’s unneeded on every mech NOT named Max, while Maxs specific trait overrides the general of the system
Might be worth? But given how much you can SPREAD the marks, then allow your party to help you cash out
That’s sorta my plan
I would love to hear if you feel it’s firing on its cylinders appropriately? Does anything feel overtuned?
I feel it’s a chassis that would feel lackluster without some talent support- but I honestly prefer Homebrew licenses to be a little weaker.
The Max has some “off-turns” when it can’t leverage its full kit, but the fact that you can actually get a lot of burst with its traits (rolling over an enemy and killing them with movement is funny) if you play your cards right is good. It’s a frame that needs support the longer the engagement goes, but it absolutely sells this scrappy, constantly on the run, bloody fisted fantasy even better than some frames in game imo
It’s weaker than the baseline in a way that adds to the fun of playing it
Perfect! That’s how G&S outta be
And max especially takes its pace from Fury Road and the video game so im calling that mission accomplished
Shiiii I need to rebuild the Wight's Max build but fair warning: I will be using the Waffenfabrik-Zalewski third party supplement
I would prefer feedback of something more pure for reporting purposes, but please have fun :3
did a sketch of the Max- gonna be playing it again soon
this fucking rules
hope you have fun playing the max!
yes!!! yes!!!! hahaha!!! i love the action on the ankle, it helps sell the force
Here’s a wip btw
By the way, is the pdf up to date?
Mostly asking because of the +2 movement core bonus
Feed ur forklift nitro every night and they will grow big and strong like John Henry
Many many thanks @acoustic stag I gotta flaunt the comm
🙏🙏🙏
yo this rules
i love its blocky legs
she’s so strong chat
I seen the maths
gyr is cookin
Built like an tungsten shithouse
good afternoon everyone, a question about the rules of ANANSI passive: SPIDERWEB TACTICAL OVERSIGHT RIG
"Choose a weapon on your mech without the Blast, Burst, Cone or Line tags and create a Blast 2 area called a Spiderweb entirely within the weapon's Range and line of sight. Hostile characters that move into a Spiderweb must stop moving immediately, losing any unused movement. ***While a Spiderweb is active, you gain the Watch Your Head! reaction and can't make Overwatch attacks. ***Spiderwebs last until you take this action again or until you move, including involuntary movement."
this mean that i can still use the reaction that the talent heavy gunner give?, or the Covering fire attack is considered a Overwatch attack?
Overwatch is very specifically the basic move-in-my-threat reaction attack. Covering Fire is an entirely separate reaction attack--and one Anansi's seemingly designed to put to damn good use honestly, long as you don't use the Loading gun for it
but things like Bonded or Exemplar or Tactician's reaction attacks would be locked off, as they employ an expanded trigger for your Overwatch.
Gyr is correct! You can still make other reactions, as long as those reactions aren’t Overwatch!
does anyone have the picture of the pilot living inside the Bunyon?
one tick
sweet, thank you
I love mechs large enough to be lived inside
We love Scrapper Onion and Grimm Bunyan
The idea that you could do a high stakes mission, then go downstairs to make celebration waffle is extremely pleasing to me.
How would Ultras Juggernaut interact with Myomuscular Reinforcement?
So got a question. How the heck are you supposed to play the Max? Cause most of my group says play it like an even more offensive enkidu
Have you ever played Ultrakill?
Yeah? Soooo play it like a cracked out murder death robot fueled by the carnage of your enemies? Sound right?
Maxs game plan is “crash crash no jutsu: die ten thousand rams” in test feedback
You’re less concerned about heat and positioning in exchange for your role being a Skirmisher rather than a Tank the way Enkidu is
They’re based on Invade effects, so I guess they’d fall off to Jugg if your gm found it appropriate
I'd like to submit a bit of feedback in regards to the Bunyan frame
Specifically the Jet Axe
Wouldn't it make more sense for it to be a Superheavy? It's pretty stacked for just a Heavy.
Issit?
Also, putting a superheavy weapon in license for a mech that has exactly a heavy mount
Seems silly
3d3+3 is a bunch, I suppose, I can probably just strip the +3 if it’s too much but- have you been testing Bunyan out? Could you tell me where your recommendation comes from here?
Mostly in that the Jet Axe is roughly analogous to a TCB, if not somewhat better due to having Overkill, yet it takes up significantly less space
3d6+3 vs 3d6+4, 2 threat on both, Knockback, Overkill vs Armor Piercing
That and, like, it feels like it'd make more sense
Bunyan's size 3, it's Fucking Massive, it tracks that the Jet Axe would be equally massive
...wait 3d3?
Why the fuck does my copy of the LCP say 3d6?
I think I got a bad copy or something, that's genuinely on me
If it's 3d3 I have no actual objections
because i'm very bad at making LCPs
and that is why i always say "check the doc first"
ur gooooooood
hay can someone gimmie the LCP file directly? i cant access itch
i used it before and its really fuckin neat but the website aint workin for me now
Anyone have the old hansel and gretel lcp? I need to see how dependence on other lcps is flagged and theirs is the only lcp I remember probably having that
nevermind looked them up and got reminded they don't have one cuz tech made em
fuck
XD
also cause they're downright ANCIENT at this point i think
idk if they got updated to post 1.8 lancer
lmao oof
im late but the enhanced combat lap (made by ralf) also has dependencies
oh cool thx
Remind me, the last time this got updated, there was discussion of something needing to still get an update
If I remember the mech all got updates, but the core bonuses, Did those ever get an update
they did
Oh!!! Lets go
Am I remembering wrong, what was the thing that needed updating still, was there even one?
Was it just the lore updates/additions?
What folklore/myths are each grimm mech named for?
They are mostly based off of stories
Jack being jack the Giant Killer, Max being Max from Mad Max, Dorthy is from Wizard of Oz. Big connection is pretty sure all of the 'fairytales' are fake or so old hard to tell if based off of a real thing, and two of them are story tellers.
Max is my favorite tbh
So in order to
- John Henry is in the name, there’s a lot of Ballads about the Steel-Driving Man
- Volk is “Wolf” as in “The Big Bad”
- Bunyan is John Bunyan, the giant lumberjack
- Jack the Giantslayer
- Dorothy is from Wizard of Oz
- Noel is Santa and also a joke about communism
- Anansi is the spider- trickster, better known in the American south as Br’er Spider/Br’er Rabbit
- Orlando is named for Orlando Furioso, one of the Twelve Paladins- he’s the “knight in shining armor”
- Max is Mad Max bc it’s funny
- Scheherazade is the narrator-character-framing device from the 1001 Nights
the general theme is fables and folklore, with a couple of movies that fit the vibe worked in
As a joke about how distant the Clanners actually are from old earth and also how their “old canon” has warped their culture
And also Santa is a man in red who is invisible but brings gifts (like arms for the proletariat)- a red specter- the specter of communism - necromancer footsloggers
Tbh the theming for Max goes hard as diamonds, you made a good choice in that
@loud minnow hope this helps!
i always assumed the joke with noel was a 'buddha the christ' type situation where the several thousands years after humanity's fall caused people to conflate karl marx and santa claus
it is quite funny that Max is Mad Max cause funny when it's got the sickest fucking writing for its flavour
Ok Noel and Orlando were the 2 i was unsure on! Thank you
The grimm and sons flavor writing is sooooo good
Im excited (if they ever get the chance) to see more writing on Lonely Cradle and the clans
the line between "incredibly funny" and "goes stupid hard" is very thin
and often blurry
also entirely likely
@jade flame hey, was curious, are there any cultures you think the languages of lonely cradle may most look like? i was curious for naming any npcs from there/repping grimm and sons
they’re based heavily on uhm, the IWW and the concept of Syndicalism, exaggerated out to a sci-fi civ
So i use a lot of “virtue” names and “American” sounding names
this is mostly so i can lean into the themes of american labor history as the major touchstone for G&S, most of their mechs are named for american folk tales, etc etc
Charity Zahedi is a name i use a lot?
hello people! I want to drop this quickly put together kitbash of the noel frame! More so a localized variant that is c:
YOOO nice
ayyyyyy! thanks mate! :D
More so I'm making a great majority of these to assemble squad of insurgent mechs, really :3
Oh!! Lovely!
I managed to finish up the paint for noel!
fuck yes
Hey y'all, I'm looking at building a Max for my current game. Any suggestions or pitfalls to avoid?
Current plan is a pair of DSAS and Shotsaber along with the Seige Ram and John Henry ram system
ram is ur friend, don’t ignore max’s own tools to improve it!
Brawling Cage is going on and newver coming off
And ROad Warrior is just fantastic
Max, from what i got from play tests sure fits its role! That being a kind of Dive Striker/Linebreaker
It looks like it's really really well suited for that role. HOw much use did the Toublemaker get?
It seems useful, and powerful, but Loading always makes me gunshy
Not much that I’ve seen? Loading is important to letting you take a moment to breath, heal up, and pick your next dive
At least that’s the intended tempo
It’s an opener you have to refresh!
I will bring up that there are a LOT of Zero-Gee combats in the campaign, so not a lot of prone enemies
Ah, that might be trouble. Max kinda relies on grav ahaha
Yeeeeah, thats my biggest Hmmmmmm moment and why I'm looking hard at the Henry system
Max wants Gravity
im playing alongside a jenry in a mostly 0g play by post campaign rn and we figured out that the prone doesn't clear until they start moving on their turn so it can still get its steel driving man trait in
Iiiiiiiinteresting, though I'm talking about the system that lets you reduce someones speed to 2, or give them Slowed and Impaired, when you ram instead of prone
Giving a little insurance
That's a good compromise honestly, i think that's fair
love steel driving man
great to name a trait that heheheheh okay
I... Don't remember the last time I stabilized for HP
sometimes you get hit very very hard. and its important to not die on the objective.
Couldn't be me (He says knowing damn well the last control map he lost 2 stress and 2 structure)
The core boils down to defence and mobility with Land spinner, or always having my ram do something even in 0G
And if I can't prone someone, I still have other ways to ruin their day. Like twin DSAS or a Exemplar
so I decided to make an "insurgent" variant of the noel! and honestly like how it came out! :D
decided to add a few paint chips as well :3
Kickass
ayyyyyyyyyyyyy! thanks mate! Honestly really glad ya managed to see it as well if I'll be honest :D
this fucking rules
Ayyy! More so these mechs I'm making are actually for am insurgent NPC lineup c:
I might be raising alert over nothing, but has playtesting/extensive feedback been given over the shaharazad's aux weapon?
I'm not going to lie, it seems a little scary at cursory glance
yes! im. hitting it with hammers
trying to find a good place for the fantasy i want it to have
What's it got right now?
The version I currently have in front of me from the PDF is this:
Aux CQB
Knockback 1, Loading (6)
Range 8
2 Kinetic
This weapon has six chambers, all of which are reloaded at once. Each attack spends one
chamber normally. Before you attack, you may empty any amount of extra chambers to
increase its Base Damage by +1.
nods
That's absurdly good. Like, you can read that as
aux cqb
Range 8 DMG 7
Knock back 2 Loading
Compared to the Hand Cannon or the Stub Cannon ...
right that versions dead im pretty sure
there’s like three draft versions and I have to pick one and try to re-edit the lcp
I think my pondering is 'what is the intended role of this', if that remotely makes sense?
My vague pondering is that maybe the 'full 6 chambers' is a little fiddly, especially for an aux so you'll be tracking several of these. Perhaps a non-loading weapon that can fan the hammer getting extra damage and becoming loading (As you've entirely emptied)?
Yeah prolly!!
something like the Assault's High Impact Rounds Mod, or the Gilgamesh's battle rifle?
Maybe 1d3 (Or flat 2) with 1 knockback by default and turning it loading makes it 1d3+1 and 2 knockback? So you get a boost to both knockback and damage.
Alternatively: Could have it become a small AOE. So like 1d3 , Range 5 + Line 3
Loading (3), Reliable 2
Range 8
1d3+1 Kinetic
This weapon has three chambers, all of which are reloaded at once. Each attack spends one chamber normally.
On Attack: Expend 3 chambers to change the Range of this weapon to Cone 3.``` this is the updated version in the gdoc and lcp im pretty sure
the pdf is pretty out of date
And yea seems so
Not sure if this is the proper place to ask but what have people experienced with the overall balence?
I love my players but if they find something that’s broken they will abuse the shit out of it so am hesitant to try out new mechs
Or if there’s specific mechs that are fine that can work
i like to think ive balanced well enough
Generally I have found that even before properly looking at the 1.04 version, and looking at the outdated PDF, the majority of stuff my wife couldn't really find things to break or only occasionally did, and that was before most of the stuff she spotted was replaced/updated in the 1.04 LCP
(She's a software engineer it's her whole thing)
a lot of my design for G&S especially focuses on building up and feeling mechanically "odd", and its spent a long time bashing itself against Core + Long Rim which is most of what its intended to be used with
Yea, and i don't think Trade Baronies or Wallflower added anything that really caused major issues w it (What I would say are the other major books)
Sorry I didn’t mean to imply it wasn’t!
I haven’t taken a look at it yet and I’m not 100% confident in my ability to tell if it’s broken or not

its okay!!!
its just a lil hard to like, answer as a question
bc you can't exactly say no
but saying yes feels too much like lying
you know?
I get that
Yeah, it's one of those 'I made it, I am the worst person to evaluate it' things. XD
I just appreciate that effort was put into balencing
I’ve ran into that case a few times where that effort wasn’t applied and the results are
Kinda dumb
In one system due to the rules sniper rifles are the best weapons at all ranges
Including melee
Like -_-
From my own play testing, its well balanced and fits well into its chosen neiches.
Some things are stronger when built around, but I would put the book over all firmly in Core Book power level
Late to this but from repeated personal testing and experience:
Max, John Henry, Jack, Volk, Orlando, Bunyan all function at a core book level for sure.
Anansi and Scheherazade have very strong tricks but can function a bit strangely, I dunno that I’d recommend to first time players unless they really liked figuring those puzzles out.
Dorothy is the only one I’m still rotating and messing around with a lot.
Additionally, like. Run a one-off with ‘em first if you wanna see abt ‘balance’. There’s no way to tell before letting stuff hit the field, and no way to get to any eventual decent balance without that.
I’ve seen Sherry both flounder and absolutely dominate before because it’s a potent controller that requires a lot of forethought and positioning and game sense
Hey, what’s the current version of the LCP?
honestly i think that's a pretty good place to be personally.
it feels right for a controller to be powerful if you got the systemic know-how to use it.
also yeah lol; i'm personally still pretty happy with how the mechs are atm balance-wise. though i still have nightmares about the speed henry.
32-move-into-barrage John Henry isn’t real it can’t hurt you
Anymore
speed henry,,,,,
sphenry
raging demon henry
John Spenry....
Should be 1.0.3
Gotcha, just making sure since the art on my version is borked
Oh the art may need to be reuploaded to a different hosting website
damn how'd you get the magarac, i dont think the new versions of the LCP even has it anymore since its being worked into like - some other mechanic aint it?
Old version of the lcp
Tbh I think people should be given the option to choose between the old and the new lcp
I don't fully agree — they've done so much work on the rest lf them
Edit: removing what I said previously, I'm honestly just painfully curious to see what it did and wish i could more easily find its art cause its cool, lol.
I don't think of the creators owe keeping it updated to us, i do agree with Datamoth below.
Frankly, creators should not have an obligation to perpetually support older aspects of their work that it turns out don't really work in the way they intend. That's just an unfair expectation to put on them.
Yeah, I do agree with that
I know that eventually, the team wants to take Magarac and use it for another really cool mechanic idea, I forgot the exact wording they used
I think the term being used was mobile operating base, but I'm not fully sure what that means (I'm not sure if that's like a thing in official that I just haven't seen?) new mechanic mentioned here https://nightmareworks.itch.io/grimmandsons/devlog/639745/whats-coming-next
But from the conversations I remember seeing, the concepts for it being a mobile operating base were really cool. A size 4 Mac that just works the way the magarac does just wasn't working smoothly from what I remember.
-# On that, I think perhaps it could be fun at some point to make a Magarac derived alt for one of the existing mechs tho thats like, a micro-mag.... Either as a Dorothy or Noel alt... (The "Joe Mag' " ?).... Maybe I'll try a swing at that at some point ....
MOBs are a concept that Tom mentioned at one point, but never really got mechanically elaborated on at all. So I know a couple of people including Delilah were attempting their own takes on the concept, rather than waiting for anything official to be released.
ohhh fun fun
Uh, could be useful some time down the line for my campaign, since my players are essentially driving around in a Java sandcrawler. I didn't really do anything with it mechanically speaking but I made this giant "skilltree" where my players can unlock gear, allies and consumables for ressources they are earning in-game
yeah like. magarac did not work the way i wanted, wasn't ever coming together that made its license worth taking, and the only real reason to take the frame was big so
i stripped it out and replaced it with noel
and am slowy banging hammers on my own brain to make things work
Yeah, even size 3 frames are hard to make work, let alone bigger.
Knowing that Noel is also what rose from the ashes especially is what makes me want to try to take a swing making a "J-Mag" Noel alt thats like. A size 1 or 2 mech that uses magarac tech (this is entirely for fun I just like making alts they're like build a puzzles)
As a person who used Magarac, I can say only one thing about it. I absolutely love it for being da biggest support. Sometimes the sheer joy of being the biggest thing on the battlefield overwhelms any negatives
The big thing about big robots is they have big knock-on effects. A size 3 mech has to be accommodated in map design in noticeable ways: a size 4 is even more egregious. There's a reason the ways to reach size 4 in core are only on npcs and all come with ways to ignore terrain, so you don't need to make every corridor huge
I mean especially considering it was a size 4 with an effect to allow allies within burst 2 to use its repairs, and also let allies share its space if i remember right
It was, but the problem was, again
that the frame was fun but the license was dogwater and its hard to make a license feel good for something that big while also still having worthwhile tools for Literally Anyone Else
Nodnodnod, yea that makes sense
It broke too many of the design rules Lancer tends to focus on so, throw it away. Im glad ya'll liked it but, eh.
Oh i liked its thematics the most
Which is why I do really like the idea of it becoming a mobile operating base
In general grimm and son writing and art is really good
💚💚💚
It is
God the Max is so cool
hello @jade flame . can you elaborate how "escalation triggers" work. is it just
IF: Fufill conditon listed
THEN: Active effect triggers on a chosen character.
Question on this rifle:
Main Rifle
Loading, Accurate
Range 8
1d3+2 Energy damage
You may fire this weapon while it is Unloaded, when Loaded this weapon gains the Reliable (3)
tag
Doesn't 1d3+2 mean that unloaded it also does minimum 3 damage?
Or is Reliable it ignores armor and resistance too.
reliable deals damage even when the attack misses
Thank you.
yup! And it only gets that Reliable while its Loaded. The idea of the weapon is that it'll never miss as long as you're stabilizing, but if you just wanna wing it, you can
Hhhuh
shotspear does lack Loading in the current Itch LCP yes
; w; lcps are my greatest foe
add da tag
grr
(use lcp editor if u dont already trust me its so easy)
also immaculate vibes here, jack so cool, dorthy so cool, bunyan so cool, ough
bunyan especially tho mech i can live in yippieee
I do and it keeps breaking on me in interesting ways. Please believe me when i say i would also like the lcps to not do something strange
Checking in to say this is one of my favorite third party things. Keep up the good work
One of the players in my group is infatuated with the Scheherazade, and I have two questions: one, how does A Favorable Dream interact with the Demolitionist talent
And also, do the Morgiana revolvers truly get +1 damage for every cylinder fired
Because deciding to empty them out every time fired for 7 damage seems crazy in comparison to hand cannons
I'm looking at the release off Itch.io
(if the LCP is different or more up to date, I haven't looked at that)
The google doc is the most up to date version, the revolver no longer works like that
I am unsure if the lcp is updated too
... Is there a link anywhere here?
@jade flame help
Hiii yay sorry I assumed it was in the main post
Working for the Promised Land Once upon a time, Union came across its distant cousins on their own Lonely Cradle at the edge of Orion's Belt, a mountainous little world with cold and thin air tamed by massive industrial complexes. Those who lived there called themselves the Clanners, and orga...
this should get pinned
In that case, my question stands over how Favorable Dream interacts with Demolitionist; it seems like it should work as a standalone version of the mind part of Demolitionist I, but they function slightly differently and I believe they would stack RAW.
straight up i wrote it before Demolitionist was a thing? So I don’t really know either
if something breaks stacking them, don’t do that
I mean it starts getting back more mines than it put out
That didn't get detonated, at least
as i said
out of curiosity does anyone have an old enough version of Grims and Sons that the Magarac still exists in its old frame state?
Got a question about the Railcannon from the Jack license, am I missing something? It seems like an inferior version of the GMS Thermal Lance. While it does have the Accurate Tag and an on hit effect; it has half the range, incurs 3 heat instead of 2, its on hit effect only work on enemies at the end of its range (when the Jack's traits encourage getting up in someones grill) and its a LL2 weapon whereas the Lance is free.
idk i like it and it fits the theme of the weapons Jack has on license that i like- caring about specific positioning and using Jacks speed to get those effects off as setup for your allies or self
jacks two guns ask you to use them in specific ways bc i wanna encourage those situations and make them some tricks you plan around
The plasmacaster I can understand having 3 heat since it has built in paracasual, but I don't understand why the rail cannon does. Yeah accurate and a non save prone is nice, but you give up your range, cook yourself much faster and the prone only work on the max range, it's doesn't feel worth it.
Idk, maybe if the prone effect was on the first target hit in the line it'd feel better
The two are meant to be equivalent, so i built them around each other, have you had any experience with them in like, tests or games and see how it does?
also that frame and license were bad i cannot let people use them sorry sorry. just BIG is kind of a mechanical identity that doesn’t DO anything useful, and the license i wrote was maybe the most boring support i could manage. if you want big, im sorry. if you want Support, Noel exists now
fair
@jade flame unfortunately not. A combination of crippling social anxiety and paper thin apartment walls make it nigh impossible to do rp'i ng,
okay well, i tend to only make changes to stuff when ive got actual play data for it. thank you for your concern on the weapon
question for a johnhenry player here rq, how does steel driving man interact with an Ultra's immunity?
for context
"Steel Driving Man
John Henry treats Prone targets as Shredded when making melee attacks."
