Astral Ring and Specializations

Allow me to explain, Captain!

Characters under the Astral Ring System will have one ring type (Specialization), and one or multiple tags (Attributes) that will determine how they can form teams. This system is only activated if a Character with Astral Ring is set as the leader. When activated:

• the leader's ring type will decide the team's playstyle.
• the team will benefit from effects (e.g., Stigmata buffs) that require Astral Ring.
• the team will gain access to Stellar Outburst, a high damage output state you can enter after charging enough energy (Astral Ring Intensity).

1. astral ring is turned on as long as your leader has it. In other words your leader must be a newer valk. If an older valk is the leader of the team, astral ring is off even if you have newer valks in other slots.

you can tell if a valkyrie has astral ring properties or not by looking at their skills. The central node will have astral ring if so.

it's not like you're jumping into high levels of the game immediately. Earlier game is more laxed that you're possibly not missing out from being more incomplete

granted if you're playing well you can reach said late/endgame in a month roughly speaking

currently we do know that next patch ||has only silverwing divine key which grants her tags for LoA and WS. Not GoI||

so if you're focused on GoI, going two patches without a complete team might be intolerable

but also if you do get ||SW dkey, you can work with solid world star teams in the meantime possibly. We're getting a free senadina that patch too. XDC is also an excellent world star support||

newer valk as leader = astral ring for team is ON

why do we care about astral ring being ON? It being turned on enables several things.

1. The most obvious thing is there are some effects that only works with astral ring is on.

(well you can see there are some effects that activate if astral ring is OFF but those are more rare now and no longer important)

Some of these effects are more specific for a certain ring type https://i.imgur.com/FTGMtkQ.png

but basically if you don't have astral ring for the team being on, you don't get any of these.

2. the other obvious thing is that in battle you can see you have a flashy blue button that needs to be charged up. The true name for this is stellar outburst but we don't have to use that name if you don't want to. Just know that going into this mode is basically your peak damage.

3. Anyway obviously not all teams are the same. There are already multiple styles of newer teams. These styles are determined by the leader's ring type.

Every ring type has a fancy name that have meaningless words. I'll try to simplify most of them

World Star - the team set up marks and then blow them up for damage

Wheel of Destiny - the team calls phantoms to boost their attacking

Law of Ascension - the team focuses on QTEs and enhances it into super QTEs

Grail of Infinitude - the team focuses on using ULTs alot

does everything make sense so far? Did i lose you anywhere? Do i need more pictures?

4. astral ring being on for the team also lets you use astral Ops but that's not something you need to pay attention to for now. These are pretty similar to ELFs of the old system.

but your phrasing of this is actually a bit weird. Alot of newer players end up thinking teams are based on putting together three valks of the same ring type.

This technically works but it's not fully how it works. Doing it this way will make you miss out on other valks that you can be using. And sometimes these other options are better

so again law of ascension is the ring type that wants to QTE alot. I'm not going to go into details about this right now.

but a team with this kiana as the leader will swap around alot. The leader is also now the main dps, so most of the team's damage will come from this kiana and will be mostly SD and fire type of damage

those are what we call tags. Sometimes the game will also call them attributes

so you know how we were talking about ring types earlier?

Each ring type has a tag it matches with. There's no logic to these names. They're all nonsense. Just know what matches with what

But overall astral ring team building is just about matching up ring type and tags. That's mostly it. If you can do that, you can probably build good enough teams for red lotus.

For the leader > Look at the ring type
For non leader (in other words, supports) > look at tags

Match the leader's ring type... to the tags of the supports

look at how every newer valk has one kind of big box, or ring type
but usually multiple smaller boxes or multiple kinds of tags

basically every valk can be used as a dps or as support

each has one way to dps, but can support multiple kinds of teams

this is what makes the new team building more flexible and all new valks very multipurpose

alot of newer or returning players come in asking "oh is vita a dps or a support" but for any valk, the answer is just both. It just depends on how you place them in the team.

but anyway this is why using a full team of one ring type isn't technically correct. (a valk will always have a tag of their own ring type so it still technically works though)

doing it that way will cause you to miss out on some really good teammates (that fws kiana from earlier has domain resonance tag. She's one of the better supports for world star actually)

oh by the way i want you to take a look at FDD again. I can see why you said this earlier but hopefully by now you understand why there is something wrong here.

FDD is actually not GoI ring type. She still supports GoI though because she has the symbiosis tag.

Every RoO valk kinda has her own rules as a leader dps

• VBm can use any astral ring
• HoFi uses trio
• FDD and Vita demands three RoO valks on the team. They don't look at tags.

let's say that i was putting together a team for this new years kiana

but i don't have enough tags for her (i don't have enough heavenly shift supports to match her LoA ring type)

this team is no good. CE has no astral ring effects at all. Senadina has no tags that matches at all. The leader effect is still 1/3

but at least we get that second leader skill effect (edit: due to VBm's Omniscient Star tag)

VBm still won't give you any special effects or gimmicks from QTEs though. The only thing is the leader skill activation here (and whatever VBm can offer in general)

although once you have enough valks with the matching tag, you do still want to pick out specific ones. Some are generally better than others (FDD w/ weapon is prob one of the better ones for LoA) but sometimes you may still want a specific one for a specific utility (sushang here provides good hitcount clearing)

• Badum or FDD on starter. You should have a while to grab them, both are not terrible backpulls if you want to backpull
• HLE. I would only consider this if you really like her but if you do she's not a bad pull per se

A f2p player has barely enough crystals to get every new release + wep, and might sometimes have to skip

So it’s less efficient to get someone who still has 80% of their value when a new release has 100% of their value still

(Numbers made up for demonstration purposes)

Pulling HlE in expectations means there’s some future new release who you will have to skip pulling

Unless you swipe

But that’s a very different question from her being bad

HoV has already been powercrept into oblivion, any new S-rank would be better than HoV by default due to having newer mechanics and general superior stats, buffs, and damage. She's gonna need max investment to even be anywhere concievably close to the valks of today, which is why it's almost always not recommended at all when you could just get a new valks and their gear

for most intents and purposes, please note rolling for dupes are not recommended to pursue

the benefit can vary depending on what it is of course. But even then if you're f2p or light spending and meta focused, it's better long term to allocate those pulls towards a new release you would otherwise have missed instead

Also astral ops or d-key syncs are probably also higher impact if you want to invest further

if you really want to consider vertical investment beyond the first copy of the valk and weapon, usually the next step is a gacha astral op but this is mainly considered once you're stable in red lotus and want to pursue nirvana tier

It's is just a preemptive general idea to keep in mind but feel free to ask for elaboration on specifics.

Not to say any account having a dupe has made a mistake. Sometimes luck gives you dupes without you intending on it, or maybe you understand all this and want to pursue it anyway. Regardless of mistakes or not, if you already have a dupe then all that's left is to appreciate it from there.

taking away from all this, if you're hunting for specific favorites as reruns sure that's fine as long as you understand the cost inefficiencies/opportunity costs against future new things, and plan for them accordingly

but you don't need to backpull for a specific rerun, esp one you don't like, just because you see them often. Other options can be good enough as long as they match, and you can get these matching tags from future additions instead.

i don't really know what that means but i guess i'll go with my usual detail as i see would suit you

so there's two general things to consider from a rank up. The effects you gain obviously (unlocking new skills or increasing the cap of existing ones)

but also ranks give you atk stats so there's that at worst even if all effects aren't notable

some ranks do have some standards to expect from

s2 nowadays gives a new (toggleable) way for time fracture > mostly useful for memorial arena where the timer is affected by that

• edit: i specify toggleable because time fractures and slowing enemies can be detrimental sometimes

s3 and ss3 improves the leader skill slightly. Usually not important

now before going forward, i will be transparent and say i'm not an absolute expert on ranks. S0 is usually enough that's more what i focus on. There may be things i missed from this talk

from what i hear, XDC's main rank is SS (2 further dupes to reach). Reaching S2 does sound nice on paper but may not actually be that notable for abyss.
