Grayscale is faster but it's not easier

You need to know how certain colors work in black and white to achieve your desired results

Grayscale also isn't very effective on most art programs

Since usually it's a process involving just how good the software is at color manipulation like Photoshop

You can also just do it manually but it's very tedious

rule of 3 grid for just placing the focal point, in this case, the face and the thighs

doesnt have to be perfectly aligned , just close to the intersections of the grid

i think the nose can adjust to the right a bit, you put a grid there but you have to remember that the nose isnt flat so naturally the bridge wont follow the center line unless it's front facing

Heres an easier way to go about thinking about texture. Think about how its made, texture is created by color variations within an object. The more color variations, the more texture there likely is. If something has a rough texture, use a lighter color and a stipple brush. If the surface is smooth like skin, pick out areas the light will hit more of. If youre working with metal, the higher contrast the better

This is the way art schools usually break it down for you. It takes some practice, but learning it like this should be more helpful

I'm trying to decide what the fushia area is on the original. I can't tell if it's the inside of the corset thing, or if it's like, she has her skirt's waste so high that the split hangs over the top of the corset/vest.

as an art university student I've had classes with no requirement besides drawing but my teachers would encourage me to exit my comfort zone of realism/semi realism, it could be what your teacher is looking for. I also do sympathize with teachers in which you always get kids who only draw anime and nothing else and they aren't willing to exit their comfort zone. If you have a teacher willing to teach exiting your comfort zone is a great way to broaden your art perspective and push your art in new directions under guidance that you normally wouldn't have

Personally for me, stylizing properly actually shows a good grasp of fundamentals.

Hard to actually consciously distort/omit stuff and have it still look good. Key is whether you are doing it intentionally and not just by chance

Focal points doesn't have to be directly on the intersections, just has to he near it

It's not a perfect composition but it's nice

1/3 of the piece is occupied by supporting characters

Another part occupied by mostly the traveler

Last part occupied by Furina

If I were to change something here, I'd move Furina and the traveler a bit to the left so that Furina's head would be included in 1/3 of the piece, same applies to the traveler

But also this would allow the focal point to be a but closer to the 3x3 intersection

Again, it's not a perfect composition but it's good enough

The best use for the lines in the rule of 3rd grid is landscape composition

Like this that I showed earlier

1/3 of this is the ground/landmass and 2/3 of it is the sky

Could also go the other way

And even sideways if you got an ocean

Like this

1/3 of this image is land, even tho it overlaps, it's fine cuz barely any land goes over the line

2/3 of this is the ocean

You might be thinking "Thats not 2/3", remove the land and it will be 2/3 ocean and 1/3 Sky
Same logic with removing the sky and it'll be 2/3 ocean 1/3 land

Same applies to the sky

The lines can be used for Dividing the elements in the Image/drawing

The intersections/crosses/points where the line touch each other can be used for focal point placement

There's also this, so most people put their focal point on the top left intersection

It holds true to all the images I sent prior to this with the grid on

Like for example, the picture of the ocean, the sky is put near/at the top left
