Once you unlock the second outpost you can start making batteries without relying on outside sources

dropping them is a one time thing, and you attach ziplines besides them later once you unlock the data logger passive that makes them emit energy around them to power buildings
it will help you out with package deliveries later
large crates give you 200 to 300k per daily delivery if you manage to keep them at 100% integrity
all it takes is using the zip lines you set beforehand
i end up spending more time dropping ziplines 100 meters apart from each other than actually exploring
tho it's really satisfying once you're done, you pop into a teleporter, zip into 5 different places and get all gathering spots or mining spots that are full
