i fixed it. i turned vsync down from full to half. i think what was happening was that my GPU (2080 super) was working too hard to try to hit my monitor's refresh rate (280hz). it was at like 95% utilization most of the time. havent had a crash since i set it to half

I've been having a really strange issue and I wonder if anyone else has too. Recently, risk 2 multiplayer has become incredibly laggy, and I have no idea why because it worked very smoothly before.

Even more recently, I've noticed some specific things about this lag; all the mobs and players move around like normal and do damage to me, but I cannot damage them, open chests, or do anything else that would otherwise require sending data to the server.

My friend has an issue. Game loads fine and he can open the settings, logbook, profiles etc. but if he clicks single-player it fades to black, as if it's switching to the character select screen but then it kicks him back to the main menu before it loads and this time there is no RoR2 logo on the menu. Multiplayer also doesn't work. He has tried verifying integrity of game Files, creating a new profile and deleting the old one, deleting the RoR2 ID folder in userdata & reinstalling the game. Anyone able to help? NOTE: The game worked about a week ago when last launched.

I'm still trying to figure out how to fix the random freezing I get in multiplayer. Tried everything, from verifying the game files re-installing game and all drivers, disabling crossplay. Even tried event viewer to check if there's anything there that can help, but no records of it whatsoever.

The issue itself is the game would freeze randomly, the window goes unresponsive, for minutes at a time. Sometimes it goes back to normal, sometimes I wait so long I eventually get kicked out of the lobby and have to restart the game. Once the game unfroze and I was able to rejoin without restarting the game, but the menu was all bugged, and I couldn't do anything.

my best guess is making a new lobby for the glitched menu thing, but for the in-game thing it matters on how far away the person your playing with is, how good both of your internets are, and how far you were into a run when it happened

Much appreciated, so some update, I can now play it. I think the solution is to remove the EOSSDK files inside the plugins folder temporarily. I uncheck fullscreen optimization and high dpi scaling as well just in case it didn't work. Then I run it through the executables from the directory (not from steam client) and it worked somehow. After that I return the EOSSDK files back to plugins folder. Apparently these files is connected to cross play with epic games, so maybe something is wrong with the crossplay system. Been having a blast tho.

connection is not the issue, we live less than 10km away from each other, both using the same provider, both on gigabit ethernet

and I say it's not the issue because no other services are affected, and I recently changed my entire home network's hardware, and the issue persists

also it could occur at the start of a run, or 12 stages later, it's completely random and I've not been able to find any way to reproduce it. All started with the DLC update, I was hoping it was some day one bug type thing, but nobody else seems to have this issue, much less a solution for it so far.

@copper carbon get your profile backed up. Open it with text editor of any kind. Locate achievements, unlocks, logs. Copy those blocks.
Get into the game, create new profile, close the game.
Now you have fresh profile with new keymapping. Merge old profile unlocks with mappingdata in your new profile. Or do the same with mapdata of your old save.
Steam cloud save should be disabled beforehand.
If you mess the data order or characters or formating the save will be corrupted.

I've had constant crashing issues since a few updates after release. It used to work fine, and suddenly just kept crashing on me. Hi all, im having trouble running ror2 at the moment. It takes several minutes to boot up the game, and when it does finally load, it runs at approx. 1.2 fps, making it unplayable. When I checked task manager, it showed that ror2 was using between 60 and 80% of my computer's cpu and 100% of the gpu. I have all of the graphics settings set to their lowest and yet the problem persists. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, as well as verified the files in steam. Do any of you know how i should proceed to fix this?

My friend is having issues with playing the game. They cannot load into the game at all. When they click on single player they load to character select for a second an get sent back to the menu. they also are unable to create a multiplayer match and none show up when trying to join a game. We have tried, Restarting the pc, uninstalling and re-installing the game. it seemed** to be working fine prior to turning on cross-play.

I tried following the official (?) guide here:

to spin up a server in a Windows VM but ran into some errors. Was able to run some of them down but was never successful in getting the server to run properly. Seems the server software is in a bit of a sorry state, indicated by the fact that it's looking for files with different names than are generated and such that require manual editing.

I have also tried running the server on Linux using Pterodactyl and the RoR2 server egg

Check if you have network performance boosing software installed, like asus GameFirst or other software that promises to reduce delay in online games.

If you're too far from eachother, like "continents far" you better to find a middle point to host a game for you.

Sometimes direct route is better than steam server, go to https://www.myip.com use copy button to get your external ip address. Host a game like you always do and give that ip to your friend.
Tell him to press alt+ctrl+` in that order, all 3 buttons at same time to open the game console. Then to type connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx using your ip.

Use tunnelling network like radminvpn. Install it on both pcs, create a room, join there together, copy provided by radmin ip use it the same way as above, but this time host aslo needs to open the console and use host 1 command

If nothing works host a hotspot from your phone to your router using router's wi-fi as a client.

Check if there is an option of static ip on your ISP, usually it's a paid option. But it comes with benefit of easier access to external internet.

Windowed or fullscreen it shouldn't create lag at all. Check if your kb/mouse have unreasonable high polling rate.
As per question check that there is no rule set on driver level to use borderless window by default.
Get into config txt file and set the mode to fullscreen there too. Config is in game files.

Support have nothing to do with savefiles (profile)
Disable steam cloud for the game.
Copy your old profile to separate folder from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\USERSTEAMID\632360\remote\UserProfiles
Go to the game and create a new one.
Copy that profile to separate folder too.
Open both copys with txt editor, preferable a good one, that won't mess the format.
Copy unlocks and achievements from old profile to new one. Be careful not to make data ztructure mistake.
Save the new profile and rename it with older name. Place it back to game userdata folder.
Run the game and delete newly created profile.
This should get rid of corrupted status of said profile.
It needs a deeper cleaning of corrupted profile if you decide to delete it and create new one. For example if you going to use save editor tool for new profile to match unlocks state of older profile (see pins of save editor link)
Game stores dqta about corupted profiles so it does not go even if you delete the corupted profile from the game (select profile and press delete on kb)

I need some help, I have a glitch on risk of rain 2 where I’m am unable to play multiplayer at all, whenever I try to join someone else’s game, whether they are my friend or a random, my screen just turns to black and stays like that until I quit the application, the thing is I can still move my cursor but can’t do anything with it. Whenever anybody joins me the same glitch will happen to them, but if they join each other everything goes on just fine. I'm hunting (and failing) to find an updated guide to setting up a dedicated server.

I tried following the official (?) guide here:

to spin up a server in a Windows VM but ran into some errors. Was able to run some of them down but was never successful in getting the server to run properly. Seems the server software is in a bit of a sorry state, indicated by the fact that it's looking for files with different names than are generated and such that require manual editing.

I have also tried running the server on Linux using Pterodactyl and the RoR2 server egg

Log points at faultily game files. Missing game data.
This usually happens in two situations: game can not read the files, or files are missing/corrupted.
If files are fine then i know two possible ways why game can't read those files.

1. you have more than one steam library where two or more copy of game installed (might be old version)
2. your MSVC++ component went rogue and windows can't detect it.

In first case i recommend to get rid of all game files and install game in C drive lib only. Make sure there is no other locations where ror2 is installed.

And if your msvc++ broken: go to your programs and components, sort them by name. Find Microsoft Visual C++ and uninstall any with 2015 in the name, both for x86 and x64. Then uninstall the ones with 2019 in the name, again both.
Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145 and download both for 86 and 64. Install those.
Sometimes when you try to install them the installation throws an error, but still offers OK button. Be careful to read what it actually says.
If you see something like "this component can't be installed because.."
You need to install CCleaner and run registry check and then registry cleanup, after that try to install vc++ again.

Other than that i can't think of other issue. You might want to file a ticket.

if you are having the same issues with other games/apps on your PC, it could be a graphics driver issue.
if not, it could be a save profile issue.
if you have anyway to try, login a different steam account on the same PC and try running RoR2.
subsequently, if you can login your steam account on another PC and play RoR2 there, that could give some insight as well

I had the same issue with control. My solution was to just go to %appdata% then go to local and just delete or rename the EpicGamesLauncher folder. You will have to login again but I think it can still discover your already installed games.****

I am having a bad time trying to play any online game with my friends. No matter who hosts the game just suddenly disconnects everyone. Either one host can't move and desyncs. It's happened more than once and specifically more to one of my friends who is simply unable to play past the 3rd level. So, I have been running into an issue as of late where I'm unable to create a multiplayer lobby with more than 4 players. Previously, after the DLC release, I've been able to host 4+ player lobbys through the follow console commands:

With X being about 6 players, usually. As of current (7/18/2022), when a 5th player tries to join the lobby, they're booted to an empty lobby and unable to join the game. I've verified that all 5 players are running windows 10, and this was attempted with multiple hosts, all to the same result. Has this feature been depreciated, or is there another method for making a 4+ player lobby?

hey can someone help me out in fixing my multiplayer? I reinstalled the game 3 times and verified the game about 7. I play with mods and I may think its affecting vanllia multiplayer. This also happens with mods multiplayer.

My friend and I keep disconnecting from each other in the middle of runs. At a certain point, everything will just start moving in a straight line at whatever velocity it was when the disconnect occurred and can't be interacted with anymore. Happens with vanilla and modded, and with either as host. No cross play, both are on Steam.

Bump all those who want fix egs offline play. I found no way to play offline. Clicking single player makes the screen go black a second and then puts me back to the main menu. Any help heavily appreciated.

@nocturne tiger disable crossplay.
If you refering to egs issue try linking accounts.
Game does create a log and I'm sure it says there is no token given.

Proper report in gb creates a jira ticket for devs to work on too.
You may ask them in email or here directly.
I don't know exact silution for your problem, but it definitely refers to access violation type error, which is basically says your pc mishandled game related data on load in a critical manner so game forced to abort.
It is hardware/software combination issue we as q comunity did not pinned down yet, and devs have no way to reproduce.

Ping me with list of things you already have tryed and include player logs from last 3 crashes from crashfiles folder. Ill get a look
