that's the usual way, but you should be careful. reducing the overlock is going to make your PC slower, and you'll want to make sure you have a way to get it back to the way it was

it does look like we actually do support ps4 icons. it may be that your have steam reconfiguring your controller, which I believe forces it to be reidentified as an xbox controller

its off , i had that same issue with another game
it could be that your PC is detecting another controller that's plugged in as your active device. It could also be virtual controllers that don't actually exist, like the kind created by vjoy. You could try going to the Windows start menu and searching "Set up USB game controllers" to see what's currently connected

@mossy bayCheck your bios for performance options, there should be settings for CPU boost. Try the game with disabled boosts.
Look for Core Performance Boost. Google for your motherboard, would not be a bad idea to ask someone on techforums about that.
Generally game goes well with boost on, but in some cases crashes happen typically when said boost is unstable. Oscilations in core speed are normal, but something major like you see on this vid (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/559902278018924557/703132048029777930/video0.mov) - absolutely gonna cause crash

My game is stuck in the pause menu. I've been on this run for three hours now, and I went through the tp, stage 28 I think, and then the screen went black, and it wouldn't undo it. I hit escape, and the pause menu opened back up, and I could see the tp and celestial portal. Now though, if I hit escape, the mouse gets stuck and won't unpause, unless I pause it to bring back up the menu, same thing happens when i hit return to game. I can access everything else , but I can't unpause am very unhappy :(
I hope someone can help me, but I have a feeling that this is unfixable :(

it's not that the GPU itself can't "handle" the game, it's that there's an issue with the software that is used to communicate with the GPU (the driver)
that's my best guess, anyway
might be a good idea to make sure the DirectX installation is up-to-date/repaired as well

This issue occurs when Windows is reporting a gamepad, joystick, or other input device providing a non-neutral input. This is usually caused by:
- Having a gamepad, flight stick, HOTAS, pedal, racing wheel, or any other kind of non-keyboard/non-mouse input device plugged in. Simply unplug the device from your computer.
- Having vjoy installed. If you've ever tried to use a GameCube controller with your PC, you probably have it installed. Opening your computer's Device Manager window should allow you to disable or uninstall it.

I’ve verified the files, I tried running as administrator but I can’t invite friends and even if I join their public game I get the same issue as earlier. Needing some help with Risk Of Rain 2 not launching from desktop and crashes immediately back to desktop and I have done multiple attempts to use DDU and reinstall NVIDIA drivers check for updates and minimize nearly all the non-essential programs and stop overlays. Working with the RTX 3080Ti in the computer... any thoughts?

Checked on another graphics card 2080Ti and having same result in addition to check the ram to see if there is a bad module in the mix with same result.
Have another user who has some games having the same result and may be from the Microsoft update 21H1 update for Windows 10 that is causing the issue.

@peak shadow log shouldn't grow so big, unless you did a whole week non-stop run after run challenge of some kind. Log is rewritten each time you restart a game.
Check that this log doesn't have file restrictions, sometimes antiviruses deny access to log file for no reason and game cant rewrite it, but still this case is bizarre. Remove the file into another folder. Open it with any txt redactor and copy what's on the end side, grab reasonable chunk of text and put it into another txt file. Send it here. (but i doubt there is any kind of usefull info, log should be filled with NRE messages that doesnt speak for itself.)

So NRE means the game wasnt able to find the data it looked for from ram, in rare cases from game files.
1st run game files integrity check to confirm game data isnt the cause.
Then disable XMP memory profile from your bios, overclocked (OC) ram is known to skip memory bits from time to time and cause crashes with NRE to the game. Just for tests its safe to turn xmp off.
If you happen to have another log that would be helpfull, but for now delete the output log file from where you got it, game gonna create new one. If you have antivirus installed (oh god forgive you if its avast) - disable it for a time, giving permits to the game exe proven to be not effective. And if it is an avast.. burn it down. Its surely the root of the cause.

I found out that the items I picked up are logged here too, so I went to when I picked up the shaped glass (right before the hang), and all that was left after that was all the NRE I sent above just looping over and over.
I've also never messed with XMP, just left it how it was, but I'll look at all that real quick. No antivirus either

That makes no sense to me. This exact entry for game hanging after bazar if player uses the portal as a commando and CommandoNonLunarEnduranceAchievement isnt complete was posted 2 years ago.
There is no info why this happens, its rare occurrence. And i cant find why it happens in 1st place.
@peak shadow your ram is probb fine, this should be a problem whithing the game itself. There is no way 5 of you guys have the same ram issue across 2 year time gap. Must be something in the codeworks of the game.
You can open your save file and type that achivent in if you want to avoid this issue entirely, but other than that i cant give you more based on that info i got.

if you have fancy gaming mouse set polling rate lower

to add on, the last thing i downloaded and added in was hookgen, the game would boot properly but i couldnt select any other characters except commando even though theyd been unlocked and were highlighted

Hey all. Been a while since I've tried to play this game. First bought during pre-release. Cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get this game to run on my laptop. It crashes 100% of the time once the opening cutscene ends/is skipped and it starts to transition to the main menu.

Hi! Im a new player so i don't know much about the game but i have a crashing problem. I've tried a lot of fixes (driver update, i ran the game as administrator, i verified the game files on steam, i even tried the first pinned message fix, i don't have any overclock on, my computer specs are better than recommended). The only thing that i didn't try is turning off my antivirus.

that's really hard to explain, the game just give me blue screen at random times, i've tried a lot of things like checking game files, running as administrator, activating compatibility mode, reduced graphics in game, but nothing changes, it's really random. I have a a 1650ti and 16gb ram, seems that is not a bad pc configuration issue

here is what you should do:
step 1: delete the game via steam
step 2: go into the steamapps > common folder and see if there is still a Risk of Rain 2 folder remaining. IF YES, DELETE THAT FOLDER ALTOGETHER.
step 3: re-install the game
also, do a fresh re-install of r2modman when you are done (should have a setting for that)

Hey hey ! My game crash randomly, can be two minutes in the game or twenty, I have already uninstalled the game and réinstalled the game, I have verifying gams files. I have no mod installed, I have tried to start the game as an administrator. I have disabled XMP memory profile from my bios, my graphic drivers are up to the date, my graphic card is a NVIDIA. The symptoms are :
- Random crash
- Strange buggy noises that freeze my PC
- Then the games sounds come back but I can't open the game's reduced window and my only option is to close it.

Go to your nvidia control panel find where the game sections is, find ror2 and set it to use your GPU instead of integrated graphics.
You also might try to select exe of the game (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Risk of Rain 2\Risk of Rain 2.exe) and right click it, chose gpu options and run it with your main gpu.

I made a couple runs tonight on my desktop, and unlocked Rex Mastery and a couple of other challenges. Closed the game, went to a friend's house, opened the game on my laptop, it told me to select a profile, I chose my name as it was the only one on there. None of the progress I made tonight on my desktop was there. Booted the game on my desktop again, and the progress was missing. The runs I made are in the run history, and the steam achievements are there, but I lost that progress.
TLDR Lost 5-6 hours of progress after switching PC's. suspected steam sync snafu

The game uses a p2p connection, and either slow and/or faraway connections have a hard time connecting to each other. We have a few solutions that you can try.
#ror2-tech-support message This long message by Goo has solved many connection issues in the past. Please carefully read it and follow the steps (including the links in Goo's post as well).
Try enabling Network Discovery in the advanced WiFi settings. This will loosen your Nat-Type a bit and allows your internet to send more data.
If that did not fix your issues, you can try accessing the console of your router. Type 'ipconfig' (without the '') into the command prompt and look for a line that says Default Gateway. This is the IP Address of your internet (NEVER POST THIS IN ANY CHAT, EVEN IF PEOPLE ASK FOR IT). If you copy this exact IP into the search bar of your web browser, it should end up at the console of your router. The password required to log in is typically the same password used for the Wi-Fi itself, but it may sometimes be different, mostly for newer routers (refer to the instruction manual). From there, you want to look for a tab that lets you change your WiFi settings.
From here, you want to look for a setting that lets you change the WiFi Channels. This is typically accompanied by a few things: 2.4 and 5.0 GHz and Channel Width. Check which internet type your pc is connected to (typically shows a graph next to it, otherwise google it), and go into the WiFi Channel for that GHz. From here, you want to TURN OFF Auto selection and look for a channel that has the LOWEST amount of users. Select that, save the change (WiFi might go out for a few seconds). As for the Channel Width, do not touch it.

Me and a friend got this game on our PS5’s. First day we played fine no problems. The past week we have tried every night and it will not let us connect to start a game. I recently upgraded my monitor to a 2k 144hz so I decided to start overclocking my 2080 ti a bit to run more intensive games at those specs right, so I load into ror2 and my computer black screens briefly before the game stops working and I'm unable to alt-tab into it. I try to reboot it but the framerate is 5-6. I learned in retrospect that ror2 doesn't like it when you overclock, so how do I fix this.
It works whenever i close MSI afterburner, but I kinda need that open for my fan management
