Which windows heavily suggested(AFTER THREE BSODs TODAY, TWO OF WHICH WERE BACK TO BACK)

#

Just cleaning all my files since I had nothing noteworthy on there

hollow urchin
#

So my friend is experiencing the same random crashing, sometimes the game just goes POOF, sometimes she gets an RoR2 Unity Crash report, she can play anywhere from minutes to a couple hours. We've tried literally evverrything we can find online about it, next step is what snickers there is contemplating, a full wipe of her PC and fresh windows install... does anyone have a better idea before we go there?

opal bone
#

can I play with a friend online if I play PS and he is with a PC

thorny schooner
#

No

#

Cross platform isn’t in the game yet (hopefully) and both versions would have inconsistencies which each other, which would just make it not work

warm roost
#

Hello i have a problem like this

#

My game started to crash at launch

#

I have played the game for some time(3 months I guess) and yesterday, when I tried to launch the game it crashed at startup. I tried to verify the files in steam, reinstal the game, reinstaling GPU drivers in devices manager, cleaning and updateing my Windows 10, cleaning the registry but still it didn't solve the problem...

I didn't make any hardware updates recently and other games works just fine

When games launcher there is small monit apperaing on the screen with game logo and at the top of it is written as follows:

"Risk of Rain 2 - Unity 2018.4.16f1_e6e9ca02b32a

My PC Specs are as follows:
Ryzen 5 5600x
32GB RAM
RTX3070

jovial inlet
#

there may be an issue with Visual C++ which this scan can notice and fix

#

the scan will take a while, so dont think its doing nothing

warm roost
#

so basically windows+R then copy paste the command?

jovial inlet
#

no, because that command prompt is not administrator mode

warm roost
#

ok

#

got it

#

already scanning

limber trout
warm roost
limber trout
warm roost
#

@jovial inlet should I do something else before launch?

limber trout
#

if i were you proud

jovial inlet
#

restart

limber trout
#

i would also run dmis and chkdsk

#

to be safe

jovial inlet
#

also yeah chkdsk is a good idea

limber trout
#

type in chkdsk /r

warm roost
limber trout
#

ok

#

let me get dmis command and then restart your computer

#

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

#

copy that and put it in there

warm roost
limber trout
#

ok so restart your computer

warm roost
#

Ok

jovial inlet
#

thanks snickers

warm roost
limber trout
#

yea

warm roost
#

After that I guess it should be fine right?

limber trout
#

so it did that to me might not work

warm roost
#

Ok we will see

limber trout
#

Should work since my sfc didnt pull anything

warm roost
#

Thank you a lot for you help gentelmens

limber trout
#

dealt with this for 12 hours yesterday before finally factory reseting my computer

#

so i know the pain

warm roost
#

Is there is a specific reason why it happened? I'm asking to avoid problems like that

limber trout
#

That's the problem is there are so many reasons as to why it could happened

warm roost
#

XD

jovial inlet
#

see, if only windows was actually fuckin helpful

limber trout
#

The biggest one is a corrupt file in your disk

jovial inlet
#

like, WHEA, such a fantastic error message that actually tells you something

limber trout
#

Sometimes it can be caused by jsut updating windows OR NOT UPDATING WINDOWS

jovial inlet
#

not

limber trout
jovial inlet
#

updates your drivers
your pc/version of windows may not be compatible
blue screen

warm roost
jovial inlet
#

i doubt that is an issue

warm roost
#

But from time to time it just spits on me

limber trout
#

So just never install feature or quality updates

jovial inlet
#

windows sometimes just decides to not work

limber trout
#

big brain

warm roost
#

Ok

limber trout
#

Unless it is not an optional update

warm roost
#

Pc just rebooted

#

Lets see

#

Same issue xD

limber trout
#

oof

jovial inlet
#

also, just gonna say this: be sure no firewall is blocking the game

warm roost
#

But the loading bar gone a bit further

jovial inlet
#

and verify steam files to ensure nothing is missing

#

those are two very common solutions to everything

warm roost
#

I will reinstall it just to be sure

jovial inlet
#

hold on one sec

#

if you reinstall, have steam delete the files and then check if anything is left in the steamapps > common folder

#

if a folder named risk of rain 2 still exists, delete that completely and only then reinstall

warm roost
#

Ok so I gonna reinstall that once more xD

#

So I am uninstalling this game right now and I make sure to delete the Risk of rain folder

jovial inlet
#

aight, then reinstall

#

i hope that will fix it

warm roost
#

I unistalled, deleted the folder, now I'm gonna CCleaner the registr

jovial inlet
#

okay so i did a bit of digging and it may be related due a power saving mode you have enabled in your bios

#

if you have that enabled, anyway

warm roost
#

should I restart once more before install?

jovial inlet
#

not really

#

just reinstall the game and try again

warm roost
#

Ok

#

the last time I set something in bios was the fan curve like 2 weeks ago and everything went smoothly - I played few days on the changed setup, after that I didn't change anything

#

Ok 67%

#

let's see

jovial inlet
#

the thing is that this is not an issue related to the game, but a certified unity moment

#

game issues can generally be traced back fairly easily but unity crashes vary from game to game

jovial inlet
#

okay, so do you have overclocking or power saving mode enabled in your bios?

#

if so, disable both

warm roost
#

let me see, gonna enter the bios

jovial inlet
#

aight, feel free to @ me once you are done

warm roost
#

eta 3

#

I'm looking for it tbh

#

But cannot find it

jovial inlet
#

i dont know the exact layout of that bios

#

google it, i guess

#

google is magical thing that solves most issues

warm roost
jovial inlet
#

👍

warm roost
#

It was set that way

#

So there is no OC or Energy Saving

jovial inlet
#

alright

#

can you run the game and see if it produces a crash dump or output log and post those here?

#

some smart people can read those and see what is wrong

warm roost
#

Ok

#

Where can I access the logs?

jovial inlet
#

you can find their locations in the pins

#

?files

plush treeBOT
#

@jovial inlet,
Output Logs
While the game is running, it is continually writing to a file called output_log.txt. This file can help us get more information about the issue. If possible, please upload the file here. The file is usually located at:
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\LocalLow\Hopoo Games, LLC\Risk of Rain 2\output_log.txt

Crash Dumps
If the game crashes it will generate a Dump file. Similarly to output_log.txt, it can help us track down the source of the crash. Please upload your crash dumps here if possible. The file is usually located at either:
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Temp\Hopoo Games, LLC\Risk of Rain 2\Crashes\crash.dmp
or
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\LocalLow\Hopoo Games, LLC\Risk of Rain 2\Crashes\crash.dmp

jovial inlet
#

or, well, this message

warm roost
#

Ok, on it

#

When I am entering USERS then choosing my account there is no AppData folder... What I am doing wrong 😄

#

Oh probably I have to enable this in some way, I will google it

jovial inlet
#

use %appdata%

#

literally type that into the windows search bar and press enter

#

then go back one folder

#

using %appdata% lands you in the roaming folder, which is not the right folder but it is located together with the Local and LocalLow folders

warm roost
warm roost
jovial inlet
#

yeah no problem man

#

@steady topaz could you take a look at these please?

#

im not smart when it comes to reading files but Goo knows his way around, so hopefully he has the time to help you

#

anyway, there isnt much else i can do for you, so good luck with the rest, and have a nice day

warm roost
#

Thank you a lot, I wish I could get you a beer for the help @jovial inlet ! Have a good day!

limber trout
#

@jovial inlet

jovial inlet
#

yes hi

limber trout
#

cna you help me

jovial inlet
#

sure, what is the issue

limber trout
#

sad story factory reseting it did not fix it

#

same issue as proud

jovial inlet
#

so i dont know if you have been following the same directions that i stated earlier, i.e. ensuring both power saving and overclock are disabled in your bios

#

if you have, then i suggest waiting for Goo or someone else who is smart to analyze the issue

crimson flare
#

@warm roost if you're playing on steam, try putting this in your launch options on steam "-window-mode exclusive". I had the same and this worked, worth the shot I guess

steady topaz
jovial inlet
#

thank you

orchid flame
#

ive heard that there are performance mods?

#

ive already disabled everything and set everything lowest but still in the later stages of the game

#

it just becomes soo laggy and clunky to the point of insta death

crimson flare
#

aw that sucks, best of luck to u

steady topaz
#

@warm roostThat does look like overclocked ram issue some players have. Try to disable XMP memory profile from your bios.
Also note that if there is different ram cards installed - this might cause those crashes. In those logs game barely booted before crashing so i think its not the case, but you could test it by unplugging your ram cards and running the game with only one inserted, change them one by one.

limber trout

How do you disable XMP memory profile @steady topaz

Ok, funny thing, I located the issue - there was some weird software with "3d sonic sound" or something similar with was instaled on my pc lately (I tought that it was connected with my ASUS board because it was made by some company "A-...", I forgot the name) and it kept some steam games crashing few seconds after launch. I removed it via CCleaner Uninstal Tool (there was 2 programs with similar name, so I removed both of them and clean the registry. After that, everything is working as intended.

Hi, I'm having a problem with corrupted profiles that seems to be rather common, but have not been able to find a solution for after googling for a bit. Would anyone be kind enough to point me towards what the most recent working solution for this is, if there is one?

#

I'm getting a message that says my profile is corrupted and there's a prompt to create a new one, and doing so I've lost all my progress thus far

#

Looking into the local save files folder I find a couple of xml files corresponding to the number of times I've been asked to create a profile to play, and all but the latest one is blank and 0kb in size.
This is absolutely frustrating.

jovial inlet
#

if that doesn't work, there is a 3rd-party save file editor

Hello! Recently my friends and I have picked up this game, and would like a Dedicated Server to be able to play together easier.

Upon setting everything up, I am met with either the message:

1 -first time profile conmfiguration
or
2 - wrong connectionId in received user packet

Message 1 occurs when server.cfg is present, message 2 occurs when not present or invalid, and either message is triggered when an internal or external connection attempt is made, implying the connection is making it to the server. All ports are forwarded, I am hosting other games from the same machine and so I know there is no hardware/networking issue to said machine, I have made an exception for the .exe and the ports in the firewall, I have run in Administrator mode, reinstalled/verified.

Any support at all would be greatly appreciated!

jovial inlet
#

i'm by no means a dedicated server guru but just pointing it out

quartz sonnet
#

Just checked the pins and yes, I believe I have followed everything possible

#

Checking the server log now, for anything set in the .cfg files (including vanilla, unmodified files) it claims it cannot change anything while the server is already running, though even after a hardware restart it still prints this error

quartz sonnet
#

Got it working. Steam must be installed and running with a logged in account, even if it doesn't own the game. No way around this :(

trim nexus
jovial inlet

still random as can be, but whatever

jovial inlet
quartz sonnet
#

No, was only me testing via an external PC, all copies legal. Regardless of how the server files were installed, the Steam Client had to be logged in and running. Installing with SteamCMD or even through the Steam Tool wasn't enough on its own, Steam itself also must be running.

#

go to the main menu and click the close button

#

that way, the game can properly overwrite your save

frosty igloo
jovial inlet
#

i have no idea why it happens either

frosty igloo
#

Is there a difference between a quit to menu and quit to desktop option from the pause menu? I vaguely remember that's an option somewhere

jovial inlet
#

thats just a common solution

#

yes, there is

frosty igloo
#

I might have used the quit to desktop option now and then. Maybe I should try avoiding that too.

jovial inlet
#

quit to menu just ends your run

#

quit to desktop in-game is safe to use

#

at least, so long as you dont unlock something on the exact frame or something like that

#

but thats borderline impossible anyway

#

basically, let the game close itself and dont use altf4

frosty igloo
#

Righto, I'll keep that in mind and see if there's a diff. Thanks!

grizzled vortex
#

Maybe this isn't the right place, but I have to get some input here.

I have been trying to nail down the issues of P2P connections on my pc for some time. Seeing as ROR2 is p2p. Thought it was router, tried all fixes for that and nothing worked. Bypassed the router and went directly from modem to pc, still not working. Contacted my ISp and they said they fully allow p2p connections. Windows defender/firewall allows ROR2 on both public and private networks. Is there something I am missing here? What could my issue be?

Not a distance thing. One of them is about 100 miles from me lol

jovial inlet
#

Copied
For direct connection you will need your friend external ip. myip.com will show that.
Then your friend should host private game and you should activate console ``+ctrl+alt and execuce connect 192.168.1.1:7777 command, where you should use your friend ip instead.
For lan emulation you need to be in the same virtual network, get your friend ip from that program. To host your friend need to open the console same way and execute host 1 command. Then you can connect to him with same command as above, but use lan emulated ip instead. (for example Connect 26.21.85.247:7777)
Its a a good idea to see if your connection is decent enough. ping` command shows rtt=999 that's your ping in ms.

#

you can try this

grizzled vortex
#

Yeah thats the last thing I haven't tried, but I would like to nail down what the actual issue is. I appreciate that.

Hey has anybody else experienced issues with RoR2 causing OBS/Streamlabs frame drops? This is the only game causing it for me so I was wondering if it was a known issue by chance.

Edit: Will also note that the game itself doesn't lag for me, nor does anything else. My stream just drops frames no matter how I try to capture the game.

jovial inlet
harsh galleon
#

Yes it does

jovial inlet
#

weird

harsh galleon
#

And it stops dropping frames as soon as I tab out

jovial inlet

thats really weird

harsh galleon

It happens at the main menu, before there's even gameplay

jovial inlet

I've also tried switching between hardware and software encoding

jovial inlet
#

is your pc at its limit when recording?

harsh galleon
#

Shouldn't be, I've got a pretty monster pc

jovial inlet
#

i dont think thats your issue, but just wondering

#

maybe you should try that

#

record some random ror2 footage and have your task manager running in the back to see how your pc is doing

harsh galleon
#

Tried that too, nothing is peaking performance wise. My cpu usage stays under 30% and I have a 2070 super so it shouldn't be my gpu either

jovial inlet
#

weird

#

im no expert on obs so i cannot really give a clue as to whats wrong

#

gonna take a guess and say google didnt help much either?

harsh galleon
#

Nope :/ that's kinda why I came here, I couldn't find any info anywhere else.

jovial inlet
#

also, is your vsync turned off in both settings and drivers?

harsh galleon
#

I tried making the assumption it was some mistake of my own, but couldn't figure anything out

jovial inlet
#

vsync messes up a lot of stuff related to framerate

harsh galleon
#

It was on at first, I assume because I hadn't played in a while, but once I disabled it nothing changed. I even tried restarting the game and my entire stream after disabling it

jovial inlet
#

hmm

#

you can try sending a support ticket

harsh galleon

radiant elbow

radiant elbow
jovial inlet
#

you may have some programs open

#

close them first, then scan, then restart

#

or you can just select Y and it will scan later (is fine because nothing ror2 related should be open)

radiant elbow
#

it's fixing the drives now

jovial inlet
#

good

#

the thing about this error is that its not even the game's fault, but unity

thats why its hard to pinpoint the exact issue

me neither @radiant elbow

jovial inlet
#

im really at my wits end tbh

#

so many people have been reporting it lately, and the only consistent solution so far is reinstalling windows entirely, for some people twice

radiant elbow
#

nope. not reinstalling windows

steady topaz
#

I can suggest to remove the dll from parent folder elsewhere, on desktop for example and see if it does anything to the game.
C:\ProgramData\A-Volute\A-Volute.Nahimic\Modules\Scheduled\x64\AudioDevProps2.dll

jovial inlet
#

im not saying you should reinstall windows, im just confused by the fact that that is the main solution

radiant elbow
#

I GOT IT WORKING

jovial inlet
#

got dang

steady topaz
#

How, we need a step by step for future use

jovial inlet
#

could you play for a while and see if the game is working as intended?

radiant elbow
#

just have to uninstall sonic studio 3

inner anvil
jovial inlet
#

yeah but thats seperate because of this i think

jovial inlet
#

how is this the solution?

radiant elbow
#

idk but it worked xD

jovial inlet
#

maybe ss3 is messing with sound files?

steady topaz
#

must be replacing some audio stuff that game tryes to use.

jovial inlet
#

i mean, its an audio driver, so thats the entire purpose of it

#

if you need an audio driver, just use realtek tbh

#

simple, and it works

steady topaz
#

drop the output log form the appdata, after you start a run and die.

@steady topaz,

C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Temp\Hopoo Games, LLC\Risk of Rain 2\Crashes\crash.dmp
or
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\LocalLow\Hopoo Games, LLC\Risk of Rain 2\Crashes\crash.dmp

steady topaz
#

press win+R and type in appdata if you cant find it.

jovial inlet
#

or %appdata% and move back a folder

radiant elbow
#

you guys talking to me?

jovial inlet
#

yes

steady topaz
#

yep, just want to confirm audio is working fine

jovial inlet
#

do you have Sonic Studio 3 installed

steady topaz
#

And i almost forgot.. remove the config file that forces the game to run without intro/splash if you want yo see it
From here: #ror2-tech-support message

jovial inlet
#

if yes, could you remove it from your pc and run the game

radiant elbow
steady topaz
#

Game content load completed in 3441ms.
UnloadTime: 49.340900 ms
Active scene changed from to lobby
Looks fine, nothing about sounds missing or something.

radiant elbow
#

so this is the solution :D

jovial inlet
#

we may finally have a solution then

#

but the thing is, we need to know if this error only occurs on devices with sonic studio

#

i have seen this error code a lot and i cannot confirm if that is the case

steady topaz
#

Well, to this exact problem, but there are way more hiding behind that access violation. The game/engine just dont have a way to react to the exceptions. Troubleshooting is pain because of this.

radiant elbow
#

well it's now one of the solutions

steady topaz
#

okay gtg, have fun

radiant elbow
#

yup

jovial inlet
#

thank you Goo

#

@mild ridge follow up ping (sorry again), we have one solution in that Sonic Studio 3 is interfering with some audio files and thus stops the game from launching properly

#

but it is very unlikely this is the only solution, but wanted to report it anyways

ruby yacht
#

actually i installed some audio driver yesterday and since then it hasn't been working, maybe uninstalling it will work

#

no way that actually worked

#

for some reason it seems downloaded audio drivers completely mess everything up

#

mine was called "VB-Audio Virtual Cable"

#

I have no idea why this happens but uninstalling audio drivers like that seems to be the solution

#

the game is running perfectly right now

jovial inlet
#

interesting

#

@ruby yacht thank you for this info

ruby yacht
#

yw

#

I hope this helps people fix this, it's such a frustrating issue

jovial inlet
#

yeah

#

but we are narrowing it down to non-realtek audio drivers it seems

#

if someone else has the same outcome with a different audio driver then i'm fairly confident to say we know the solution

this bug has happened to a lot of people (myself included) but it usually just fixes itself

lyric breach
#

hey everyone
we've had a weird issue where the game simply closed after starting without creating crash dumps and none of the pinned and less-common solutions worked
turns out, the game doesn't like it if some non-english letters are included in the folder path (e.g. the letter "á")
renaming the folder or moving the game to a folder with english-only letters solved the problem
not sure if this is known or not, thought I'd mention it in case someone comes here with a similar problem 🙂

jovial inlet
#

but thanks for pointing it out regardless

steady topaz
#

I think i saw ppl with different to english characters in the path, are you sure there were no multiple steam librarys or outdated copys of the game somewhere near?
Because that will result in game confusing where to get files and closing exactly to a blackscreen and no error message.
I do remember writing the code for someone who had no ` key in his laguage keyboard layout to press this key for him, he sure had a game on non english path and had no problems with it.

just look it up in your search bar

like the one in file explorer?

dont touch anything there

yeah its the one i included in your ping message

mild ridge
#

ahhhhh, gotcha. didn't see that it was a reply

jovial inlet
#

its not so much that its not working now (fsr), but that i want to find the issue so we can have a solution

mild ridge
#

looks like AudioDevProps2.dll again

jovial inlet
#

thing is, im not smart when it comes to files like that

#

yeah i did notice that as well, another audio issue

mild ridge
#

it's not one of our files, and I don't recognize it from any software I know. last time, it was part of some driver or audio management software?

jovial inlet
#

Sonic Studio 3 was causing it

#

but Niko had already uninstalled it

mild ridge
#

apparently not completely

#

otherwise AudioDevProps2.dll wouldn't be present to cause a crash

jovial inlet
#

maybe some other audio drivers aside from realtek may be including that file?

#

im not very knowledgable on the topic of sound drivers but some custom ones seem to be causing it

mild ridge
#

strangely enough, it's loaded twice from two different locations

jovial inlet
#

Pin 6 - Pre-DLC crash solutions
The first two solutions are for LAUNCH CRASHES only.

-Audio drivers may be inserting sound files the game does not recognize and thus resulting in a crash (audiodevprops2.dll). This issue is caused by programs like Sonic Studio. Uninstalling these fixes the issue. The only recommended audio driver is Realtek.

-Booting up the game without AVX instructions enabled at Windows level. You can enable AVX instructions by opening command prompt in admin mode and typing 'bcdedit /set xsavedisable 0' without the ''

Other general crashes
-You may have overclock enabled, disable it in your BIOS. Note that ram/cpu that sync their clock rate also causes this issue, set both to base clock rate.

-Programs like Citrix or non-official GPU drivers are active. This can stop the game from launching, but mostly causes crashes during gameplay. Uninstall all GPU programs except the official/up-to-date drivers. Only enable recommended updates.

-A driver may be broken or Visual C++ may be malfunctioning. Open command prompt in administrator mode and type the following commands (let them finish before entering the next). Copy paste without the ''
'sfc /scannow'
'chkdsk /r'
'DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth'
'memtest' (If memtest doesn't work, use winkey+R, then 'mdsched.exe' without '')

-Manually reinstall Visual C++. You can download them from here (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145). In the programs list, this is listed as Visual C++ 2015-2019, delete and reinstall both x64 and x86.

Other solutions are listed in Pin 4. If nothing solved your issue, post the Player.log and Error.log here.

you can try deleting it manually

also it mentions sonicstudio3???

its not something that shows up in the control panel so i dont think it's a software

sonic studio is an external audio driver

ruby yacht

is it important?

if you have realtek, no

but at least we know that the file exists

after some googling i found that program Goo sent you earlier, that yellow brick thingy

people say it fixed it for them

looks kinda sketchy though

okay, so

sonic studio really does seem to be the main culprit here

maybe you have some internet-consuming things open, like a steam download?

its probably just the website, for example i can download things like videos off of google drive well over 2 gigabytes in under 2 minutes

ig ill just have to wait it out

its really weird how Realtek's website is slow

#

maybe they are doing some server maintenance or sth idk

ruby yacht

try to replace your internet with your phone hotspot. Share your internet to your router, make that connection selected 1st, ahead of your wired connection. Then enable upnp in your router and try the game.

@jovial inlet,
This issue occurs when Windows is reporting a gamepad, joystick, or other input device providing a non-neutral input. This is usually caused by:

  1. Having a gamepad, flight stick, HOTAS, pedal, racing wheel, or any other kind of non-keyboard/non-mouse input device plugged in. Simply unplug the device from your computer.
  2. Having vjoy installed. If you've ever tried to use a GameCube controller with your PC, you probably have it installed. Opening your computer's Device Manager window should allow you to disable or uninstall it.

So @jovial inlet , I think I managed to reproduce the bug.
I finished a run by defeating Mithrix and leaving the moon, started the next run and had 50k lunar coins more than before. I ended that run immediately by dying, started another one to see if I just get the coins with each new game but that didn't work so I just quit that one through the menu.
Another thing that might be interesting to note is what I mentioned yesterday in the bug reports channel because I forgot to start steam as admin again so the run that gave the coins was not finished properly but ended in a black screen again. Only this time I was able to find the "quit to menu" button to get out of it

#

Also looking at the output log I'm even more certain that yesterday's problem was due to missing file privileges

mental beacon
#

So basically after the run ended there were a bunch of NullReferenceExceptions and after that even more UnauthorizedAccessExceptions

jovial inlet
#

@mental beacon if that is the case, start the game in administrator mode

mental beacon
#

Yes that's what I'll be doing if I don't forget again. But I'm still not sure if the +50k lunar coins come from that and if so why

Hey so this is an incredibly specific issue, I've been trying to access the steam leader boards for ror2, but the request requires a publisher Key for the game, while i think it'd be mad to just hand this out, is there a way that the steam leader boards could be updated to not require this key? That way the prismatic leader board could be used on websites and in discord bots etc.

Not sure if this is a steam thing or a hopoo thing, either way i know this isnt the right place, but the "feedback" board didnt seem right either

I'm having the same issue with my friend

peak shadow
#

Hey guys. So out of the blue I'm having some interesting frame issues. I used to get over 100 frames but the past two nights I've been getting around 60 and even lower a lot of the time. Not unusual to be down to 20 frames in a TP event. I've always ran the game on high and now I can only get the same performance I used to by putting EVERYTHING on low. Is there anyone who's had this issue and if so, how'd you fix it?

#

Been looking around trying to find a solution but the only things I'm seeing are fixes for crashes and failed boots.

#

And the occasional "just turn everything down 4Head"

peak shadow
#

it also drops to ~60 frames when I'm in the menu which is very weird

glossy jay
#

Is there another location that save files are stored? Even after deleting all the files from the folder, the in game profiles are still there. Also tried creating a profile and no new file was created

peak shadow
#

I'll check. What folder would I be looking for?

glossy jay
#

Steam > userdata > (steamID) > 632360 > remote > UserProfiles

#

That's where save files are stored and worked perfectly fine. After creating an account and even removing the files from there, it's still showing profiles which it shouldn't be

peak shadow
#

I'm only seeing one file

glossy jay
#

That would be your in-game profile. If you were to create another profile another file should be there for that profile

#

3 profiles, 2 files

#

and even if I remove the files all the profiles are still there

peak shadow
#

Yeah, but I only have one profile and one file

#

oh wayment

#

i see what you're talking about now

glossy jay
#

Yeah, and now I'm having this problem. Before everything was working just fine and now it's not reading or writing to the files and I don't know where it's getting my profiles from

peak shadow
#

do you happen to have another 632360 folder things are saving to? that'd be the only thing i can think of

glossy jay
#

no, there's only one folder for that

peak shadow
#

hmm, yeah i'm not sure. i tried seeing if read-only did anything but it didn't.

#

alright so now the game just randomly started running above 100 frames where it would be running 60 when the issue was happening. I have yet to find what's causing it, all I did was move to the settings, changed v-sync from off to half to always, back and forth, about 10 times, and all of a sudden my frame rate just doubled.

#

and all i did was alt+tab and I come back to half the frames!

#

wanna put this here just in case something's acting weird in here that shouldn't be happening

#

I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling, verifying game files, starting vanilla and modded (to see if any of my mods are conflicting), restarting my computer, updating my drivers, updating windows, and none of that has worked

jovial inlet
#

update your drivers and disable it both in-game and in-driver

peak shadow

Updating to W11 did change my power plan, it was at balanced prior to me changing it just now

#

Because to update to W11 I had to fresh install W10 to enable some stuff to allow my computer to run W11, so it probably changed it when I fresh installed

jovial inlet
#

that shouldnt matter at all, at least from my experience

#

my pc has been on balanced since i installed it

#

but eh, if it fixes your issue then its fine

peak shadow
#

Yeah didn't do anything, still lingering at 60 and below in places I should be much higher

#

Those are all the stats too in case something looks off there

#

also only sitting at 60-70 frames in the menu when there should be nothing in the menu taxing enough to make it that low

#

I've done nothing, and the frames have doubled. This has been happening recently, where if the game just powers through the dip, it will spontaneously reach my usual frame rate. However this goes both ways, and after a while of playing with the usual frame rate will spontaneously drop and linger around 60 frames again.

#

Hey, there it is!

#

I'll see if I can get a video of it next time, because I'm an idiot and accidentally turned off my instant replay when I went to record it 🙂

peak shadow
#

It won't let me take videos and have the performance overlay on for some reason, but here's a screenshot of it running high, and I'll return with another as soon as it dips because I guarantee it will

#

Also, GPU started running very hot.

#

4 minutes later, frames tank. No movement aside from a mouse bump. A pattern I'm noticing is that with the frames, the GPU utilization has also dropped dramatically, and the GPU starts cooling down.

#

I hope this provides a little bit more help as to what might be going on

#

Thinking that the GPU temp value might be showing wrong because the temp decreased oddly quickly upon exiting to desktop, and I don't believe heat just goes away that quickly lol

#

But the GPU usage and the frames are likely correct

jovial inlet
#

if its overheating then it slows down ofc

#

maybe try dusting off the fans

peak shadow
#

It doesn't heat up until it starts utilizating the whole GPU though

#

This is literally the only game that I have an issue with

#

I don't think the dust on my fans would equate to the utilization lowering and rising either, especially when the game BOOTS like that, you know?

#

And like I said, I don't know how accurate the temp monitoring is when I exit to desktop and it returns to 55° in a heartbeat

steady topaz
#

@peak shadow 79-80C is typical thermal throtting temp. This looks like thermal issue, but remembering other problems with rtx series cards - might be new drivers issue. Try to reroll or upgrade to beta version before checking thermo origin of this problem. Check for malware, crypto miners mainly, pc could be infected and do gpu mining in background, but that's rare.

peak shadow
#

@steady topaz interesting, but the thing is that the temp never really rises literally until the frames rise, almost like it's simultaneous. I want to say it lingers around 70° when I'm sitting around the lower 60 frames. I wish Shadowplay would capture the performance overlay so I could show in more detail. And also, this started happening prior to any sort of driver update -- I actually updated the drivers in attempt to solve it but no dice, but there was no driver update that seemed to cause this to start happening.

#

Because if it was thermal throttling, I would expect the frames to drop when the GPU started overheating, but it looks like it happens way before the temp even gets close to overheating. 🤷‍♂️ I literally have no idea what to even tie the issue to honestly.

steady topaz
#

@peak shadow you can instal another OS on external drive without touching your system/personal files to run the game from there. Steam and fresh gpu driver is what you need to run the game, bare minimum gonna be installed with OS, provided its win 10. This way you could safely test if its your hardware/thermal problem or software combination. I can't see faster and more or less evident way to test it. 32gb flash stick would be enough for OS + game files. Speed of USB is enough to run the game, but that is not the solution. For ppl before you drivers rerol or complete OS reinstall were the solution. Keep in mind I don't know what exactly is wrong there, but we did lots of test to no result. Doubt there is some light laying in your data, but you can at least do tests like this.

peak shadow
#

Hmm, would I be able to do that with win 11? Because that's what I'm on, so I'd want to see if fresh win 11 would cause any difference. Or, would I be able to rollback Windows updates to get the same results?

steady topaz
#

@peak shadow yes, win10+ will do just fine. I do recommend tu use exactly same OS, so use it. Doubt that you have rollback point, but if game were working fine back then, when you have last point it might help. This won't affect user installed software, along with any crypto miner malware. So there is possibility that rollback changes nothing for performance of the game. This is why fresh instal of trial os on same hardware, but on different software might be different. If so you could continue to search for the solution knowing what's different in software

peak shadow
#

Alright. I'd have to buy a drive and format it to put win 11 on it to see, unless I wanted to wait and see if any sort of windows or driver update changes it

#

But if those happened to be an issue, wouldn't it affect all of my games, and not just risk of rain

steady topaz
#

thats good thinking, there might be other solutions.

#

Idk how to answer this question properly, I have limited knowledge, this game just have kinda specific requirements and issues that devs cant really affect. They didn't invent the engine and can't realistically fix every aspect of it. Yes they did outstanding optimisation job and game works for most players very well, but some edge cases like crashing on oc ram under specific circumstances is what just happens to some players.

#

@peak shadow there were performance issues for gpu 1060 series due to drivers and engine version of the game. Now its mostly gone because of updates to said drivers and engine version. But we still don't know what exactly went wrong there.
