Anyone getting massive lag if they don't host the multiplayer game? Was playing with a friend and started getting models freezing, rubber-banding, etc. Restarted the game with me hosting and my lag disappeared, but then they started having issues. i am having a very weird bug with my RoR2 where I click play on steam, the button turns blue with "Exit" on it for a few seconds, then goes back to Play without launching anything.
I have tried updating my drivers, checking my antivirus/firewall, reinstalling RoR2, reinstalling steam, restarting my computer, verifying files, and some of those again in verying orders.

Weirdest part is, on a whim, I tried to launch the game through r2modman and it worked completely fine. I then tried steam after it worked here... Same issue.

This issue occurs when Windows is reporting a gamepad, joystick, or other input device providing a non-neutral input. This is usually caused by:

@ruby dagger Late response, but I've had that issue for a long time. I'm not sure what the exact cause of it is, but it seemed to self-correct after the anniversary update.

If you're still having that issue even after the anniversary update, you can get it to eventually work if you just brute force it. Have one person host the lobby and go to character select, then have player 2 repeatedly try to join. It will let them in eventually. You'll get booted back to the main menu a lot, but it goes through eventually.

I don't know. It has something to do with the game trying to transition the player from the lobby to the character select screen.

When you get that bugged character select, Steam will still show that you're in the lobby instead of actually in character select lol

Possible tip for those with blank logbook issues, I had several lazy backup copies of my save files in the UserProfiles folder with my main save, moving those to another folder immediately fixed my logbook. hopefully will help people

Copy for later salvaging to another folder, Disable steam cloud for the game. Go to the game and press delete on the profile. Create new, open it with notepad++ and edit out unlocks section from corrupted one to this new one.
Also game root folder should contain corrupted profiles folder and txt file with similar name that refers to it. Move it out or delete.

Game just closes because it doesnt know how to run. it issues TerminateSoundEngine and shutts down normally, so there is no crash and so no crashfiles created.

Its entirely your side issue. Game is peer to peer. Its literally not something that devs can control. If anything you should blame your net admin, (you or your provider who set up the network you're using) or your isp.

Just bought the game on steam but when ever i try to launch it just black screens and crashes with the blue spinning cursor, i have tried verifying game cache, running both the game itself and steam as administrator, running in windows 7 and 8 compatibility, i have updated my GPU and CPU drivers and i have checked that it is allowed and unrestricted by my anti-virus (kaspersky). I am using windows 10, GTX 3060, AMD ryzen 5 3600 and 16GB DDR4. Any whelp would be appreciated

Hey gang, I just got the game and I'm having a lot of fun. However, most of the time I launch the game, it runs fine until I select single or multi player in the menu. Then the game goes into single digit fps, and continues to do so until I restart my computer. Once I do, the game runs fine. But then if I try to reboot the game, the issue returns until I restart my computer again. So that's the cycle. Any ideas/experience?
EDIT: This is the only game that does this btw. Also I'm on a desktop with a ryzen cpu so I don't have integrated graphics.

It indeed was caused by multiple librarys and paths. I still dont know why, but game is able to reach steam if it runs from old location (on 1st pic)

When I try a port checking website it shows the ports 27015 & 27016 as not open (they are), when I use a port I know does work like 25565 for my Minecraft server, it will show as open running the MC server but be closed when I run the risk of rain 2 one configured to use it instead. I've just launched the game today (I played it yesterday and the day before after the new update and didn't run into this issue), and it seems to be very noticeably locked to 60fps whatever I do. I've disabled vsync and fps limit in the game's menus and double checked the refresh rate is set to 143hz (monitor is 144). Idk if this counts as Tech support, but since the Anniversary update I've had an issue with the Logbook and my Profile creation, everytime I create a profile, it gets removed once I restart the game and my logbook doesn't show anything except the tabs to click on. hey folks, I've been having an issue with the game for a long time that has made the game feel nearly unplayable. I have an Aurora R7, and I'm playing on suboptimal settings, yet the game runs at 30fps when nothing is happening and drops down to <15fps when there is any sort of action. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, updating graphics drivers, uninstalling all mods/mod launchers, etc.

I've done just about everything I can think of save for clearing all my game data or factory resetting my PC. Does anyone know how I can get back to playing on normal, consistent frames?

@cinder wave Its a connection issue between you and your friend. Unsure who exactly, but someone got closed ports. Data needed for game to work gets lost.
You can play on someone's else server, dedicated servers.
Also you can try to play thru radminvpn. It installs a virtual adatpter on your pc that talks to your networking devices and punches thru. Its easy and free. #ror2-tech-support message
Or you can fix your connection.

I just discovered that CPU usage is extremely low when it starts having issues, not sure how I didn't notice that before. Normally it'll be like 20% in ror2, but when the issue starts, it'll be sub 10%. This doesn't happen in any other game. I'm considering doing a clean install of windows, maybe it's a background app that I'm not noticing? Any ideas with this info?

@tawdry dust Mods do add some complexity to the scene, in case where vanila game already had performance issues (low single core cpu especially or small ammount + low speed of RAM) mods will decrease the performance the more you install them.

@fallow sandal Didnt look into the logs, but its most likely ram issue.
If you having seemingly random crashes at unpredictable times it might be that your game cant read/write ram fast enough or skips critical bits.
Disabling XMP memory profile from bios helps. Also turn off any ram oc.
Updating bios might help.
Additional info about that - if you use ram cards from different manufacturers - its might be the root of those crashes. Try to unplug one or another, see if this helps.

Thanks for the help. I checked my ram with the windows utility and it didn't found any problems with it. But I haven't tried to disable XMP or only using one memory stick. I will give that a try. I dont have anything overclocked in my pc.

@fallow sandal I saw a plenty ppl that got problems with ram issues that checked theyr ram and found exactly 0 errors or damage to them.
Also some of newer motherboards come with xmp mem profile preset to 1 or even 2. Some motherboards dont have an option to disable xmp, but instead have custom settings.

in this case try to set a minimum values your cpu and ram support.

and i dont recommend to thinker with voltage at all, its more complex kind of oc, this might damage your cards.

What kind of minimum values would be good? Because I have 2 8GB sticks both from the same vendor same model and everything they run at 3200 and I tried lowering it to 2900 but it still crashed. Anyway when I get a chance I will look for the XMP options to see what I can do.

Its the only option. Disabling device or even uninstalling drivers doesnt work. Device should be completely gone for game to work properly.
Sometimes even when you uninstall vjoy the device still sits as listed and confuses the game.

@quaint swift Check your windows Event Viewer, there should be critical errors that you can look for. Those messages have codes, google those codes, it might be ram related or power related. Game is cpu/ram intense. Those kind of crashes could not be happening with other games.

Example.
Windows logs > System > Critical
Click on those lines and copy theyr event id. Then google those codes and read what could cause it.

both, either hangs or bsod, if its a bsod its a WHEA (windows hardware Error Architecture)

This refers to failure at the device, like ram or hdd or other. Its not a pin point report, basically it just goes - "well, something happened there" and points at the device.

I dont know any kind of steps to actually figure out what's the issue is. But id recommend to check hdd and then swap around your ram. If you have 2 or more ram cards, try to unplug all, but one. Try different ones. Often cards create errors working together under load.

If game worked fine, without random crashes or unity errors before, you probably dont need to disable your xmp memory profile from bios, but it doesnt hurt. There is number of crashes related to ram/cpu OC, xmp is a kind of OC too.

Are profile stats bugged for anyone else? They never update for me. It says I've done 412 runs but I've done at least a dozen runs since the update and not a single number on my profile stats has changed whatsoever. It also shows my profile name as my old steam name for some reason. Also, the pie chart is 100% broken and inaccurate, it's stuck on highest kills as and is a 33/33/33 split between loader acrid and commando, which is 100% false...and if i try changing the pie chart with the arrows
nothing happens

@nimble sinew @devout hearth Both ror1 and ror2 use kinda same connection type - peer to peer (p2p) In case of ror2 data gets trown thru steam servers to establish connection.
The one who creates a game becomes the host to others (clients) all clients are separated to eachother. Host connects everyone, enemys, projectiles, clients effects etc - all those are networked and synced thru the host. If host connection to clients have problems, like firewalls, proxy, vpn services, closed ports, network restrictions (like ofice network or mobile internet) there likely will be problems, loss of data, unreliable connection, long delays.
Game tryes to connect directly, if it isnt possible or this connection is bad - it uses help of relays (middle points that throw connection) In case of relays there usually very bad delays. NA to China is practically unplayable for characters like artificer because of that.

And what about disconnections - its likely because someone in a group have dynamic ip and closed ports. Sometimes connection works well, but on the next day it doesnt. Its because your ISP gives you access thru network gate only for 24hr session, after that it must be changed. When this happens your connection might not properly pass data. It doesnt mean that it cant, dynamic ip works just fine, but it needs correctly set network - routers, firewalls and brandmouer.

other stats shouldn't be affected, iirc the main issue was from trying to do some operations in the logbook like calculating totals and percentages among all characters and that we were using the wrong data type for some operations (stats can be 'double' or 'ulong', tried to use 'decimal' since I thought a 128-bit floating point type to represent either for generic computation purposes would be sufficient, but it actually has a smaller range than 'double' in exchange for much higher precision)

ok, so this screen I am familiar with. what this means is that, for some reason, Steam is able to establish a connection to the other player but it's not actually able to deliver any data in at least one direction. Your game thinks it's connected to someone so it switches to the character-select screen, but it's waiting for data from the host that never comes.

When I first open the game, everything is good for like 3 minutes of gameplay, consistent 60 fps no matter where I look or whether or not enemies are spawning. Hello, I want to play un-modded on pc, but every time I start a run I am unable to press e to exit the escape pod and move around. I also cannot change my keys in the settings to any letter. Sometimes it automatically spams certain keys like e or wasd which is weird. I tried deleting and re-downloading the game and validating files and even changing the language profile in the config to english but that didnt help either. Does anyone know a fix or cause for this?

Hello. I would love any if at all help regarding whatever my situation could be. I play Risk of Rain 2 both Modded and Un-modded but I still get random crashes to desktop with no error messages from Unity or .txt documents in my Crash log (Although it will still create a Folder at the time it happens). I run Risk of Rain 2 at Max settings with no frame rate issues, I usually update my graphics card driver the day off when a new update is published, and I think I got a fairly strong specs ( AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core / GeForce GTX 1660 / 32 GB of DDR4 Ram) that meet the requirements for the game. The most common crash I will come across is that when I run Artifact of Vengeance, Whenever the dopplegangers spawn or attack, the game will hard crash. Other times it will be either 5 minutes into a run or 50 minutes into a run. I was suspicious that Mods were the culprit for awhile, but then I still had the same issue when the Anniversary update dropped and were playing Vanilla! Ive searched Steam forms and Reddit posts for something remotely related to my issue and I haven't found anything.

Alright, something happened in the last week or so that made me unable to launch the game properly. I click to play it and either the screen flashes black for a moment and doesn't load the game properly, or it just crashes. This might sound strange but i left a game with someone who was using a mod client in a public game (one they hadnt been the host for as the host had made the game vanilla) which at the start of the run they were running huntress ans they had been throwing around 15-20 glaves in a single throw. In addition they had no blink cooldown nor glave cooldown. Which this is not possible. As .5 seconds is the cap cd reduction and you can only throw 1 glave a cast. Let alone at the start of a run with no items. Now is there anything i can do along side the ror2 devs about this person or will i just have to do a steam account report for now? I already did that one i was wanting to ensure if there was anythint else that was capable ot being done or not

@left mountain Its likely related to ram OC. If you have any overclock on your ram - turn it down. Also its possible that your XMP memory profile set for 1 or 2 in your motherboard BIOS. This known to cause access violations on read/write from ram on some pc.
There is also a possibility that one of your ram cards went unstable and skips or looses data. If xmp is disabled id suggest your to unplug all but one card to see if it still crashes. Change them around.

How to get one:
Press "winkey"+R and type in dxdiag into run window that just opened. Press enter.
Wait for dxdiag to get all the data and then save it into a txt file with a button on bottom right.
Also it would be helpfull to get your game to heavy framedrops and close it few minutes after. This way the game would write somewhat usefull log. Include this log too. You will find the path for it in messages above.

unfortunately, i dont have an option for longest run and distance traveled since i dont have an actual value recorded anywhere, so my only option would be to 'reset' it to 0 and just go from there if i want future realism

and hopefully from here on out my UI mods wont mess with anything since i wont use character mods to hope they dont mess it back up

sadly i had to reset my distance ran, but all of my stats and piecharts finally look normal

and my UI mods hopefully dont mess anything up, so far with quick runs choosing random characters and dying they seem okay

I do find it very interesting that every single enemy in the game has the same list of the stats as playable characters do

Probably explains why there's simple mods to play as enemies since they probably have the same skeleton for lack of better term as playable characters

@regal wraith any enemy, entity, or even a physics test car are controllable by player. You dont need mods, but it require some code alternating or memory interventions.
Basically you can play as anything. But for most of that anything there is a bot ai that controlls it just like a normal player would do.
Also i should mention a funny part.. worm enemy type have outstanding character control scheme. Its actually an invisible man that runs around you and tryes to call worm body to you to perfrom attacks.

About the stats. You can manually edit them out from your save file if you feel like it. Or create new one and place there your unlocks and achievements so you could start collecting stats from 0.

Yeah if you read above, I just manually set all the weird and glitched ones to 0

Like my stat value limits and my 6 times I picked twiptwip somehow and my longest run which was somehow a destructible fuel cell body with a value for time longer than even possible

But that's interesting to know, especially the worm bit lol

Having some trouble, when I launch the game once im in the menu the game slowly looses FPS until it stops around 8fps. When looking at task manager I can see the game is using like 80% of my GPU (not sure how helpful that is as im not sure how much it uses when running properly)

I've verif game file a few times already, uninstalled and reinstalled, checked for windows updates and such. nothing has worked so far
