this is usually caused by skipping the intro, open the game files and go to risk of rain 2 data -> config -> config.cfg, look for intro_skip and splash_skip and set them both to 0

there's also a second config file where your saves are located ( C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\userdata[Number]\632360\remote\UserProfiles), not sure if you have to do the same for that one but it wouldn't hurt

you can find the installation of steam itself by opening up the game's local files (either click on the gearbox on the side or right click the game in your list) and that should take you to ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Risk of Rain 2

once there you can back up to the main directory for steam and navigate to Steam\userdata\[your Steam ID]\632360\remote\UserProfiles

once there, you can right click the file and click "Properties" to open up this window
(there might be multiple if you made another save, just pick the bigger one)

hello, i have an interesting issue with ror, i'll try to explain it as best i can.
when me and my friend try to make a lobby, and click on create a multiplayer game, the game crashes for whichever was hosting the lobby (without crossplay turned on.)
but, if we do have crossplay turned on, we can play the game together, until around the 50 to 55 minute mark where the game freezes for either of us and makes us unable to play how we would normally do.
but, when another friend joins us, and he hosts, without crossplay activated as well, it seems to work flawlessly for all of us. what could i do, or me and my friend could do so we don't have to depend on our other friend hosting the game so it doesn't crash/freeze unexpectedly?

I already posted about this in #1440408911604879511 but I thought that maybe I would be able to get some insight as well as a potential cause behind this...
My friend purchased me the Alloyed Collective DLC as a Christmas gift, and in the middle of a run after entering the Virtual Portal, my PC completely froze, save for my cursor. (Her game crashed too, but she was able to close it and not have to restart her PC.) I couldn't close ROR2 or use my taskbar, and the popups to close the game due to it not responding did not work either. It took me restarting my PC three separate times to get things back to normal, and I was wondering if this happened to anyone else.

I'm primarily wondering if this is an issue with my PC, or with my game. I'm inclined to believe that it could be an issue with the game, because my computer is fairly beefy and made to withstand most video games. Any ideas as to what may have caused this?

I just bought ror2 and went to play it on my steam deck for the first time and for some reason when I start the game, I can't do anything. I'm just stuck in the pod and it tells me there's no gamepad key bind so I tried manually adding all the keybinds and it wouldn't let me, I Reinstalled the game, messed with settings, restarted the deck and nothing worked

hi everyone, i am having some serious lag issues with this game. any stage after stage 1 is very laggy and i usually drop down to single digit FPS. not sure why this is happening. for context my computer specs are core i7-11800H CPU, gtx 3070 laptop GPU, 32 GBs of RAM, and booting off of 1 TB NVME SSD. i have set all of my graphics settings down to lowest possible settings and it still gets down to single digit FPS. i have tried restarting my computer, reinstalling the game, verifying game files (which usually says 2 files failed to validate every time i do this), updating graphics drivers, and running in windows 8 compatibility mode. anyone have any advice?

also want to add that when i last played the game a year ago (on the same computer) none of these issues were present

This is a long shot but try manually deleting the whole game folder (don't use steam uninstall) and then reinstall.
No idea if it'll work here but the game is known to have some issues when you don't play for a long time and then skip over multiple updates, and getting a totally fresh install seems to fix at least some of them

Also don't worry about the 2 files not validating, that always happens for some reason

  -Side note to this, every time I do this, it says that two files need to be downloaded bc
  they couldn't be verified. I don't know what they are.
• Clearing download cache
• Clearing download cache and running the game without connecting to Steam Cloud
• Starting the game with launch options of "-window-mode exclusive -high"
• Starting the game with launch options of "-window-mode exclusive -high -dx11"
• Running as admin
• Running in Windows 8 compatibility mode

all crossplay does is make the game connect through epic's servers instead of steam, so for epic players it's essentially always enabled

I need help because game saving and profiles do not work so every time the game boots up it forces me to make a new profile and forgets all my other ones. This started happening after I played one run with the new DLC content. After I booted the game up again it said my profile was corrupted so i made a new one and it didn't save at all after I played on it. I verified the game file integrity and it said I have 2 files missing so I redownloaded them and played and nothing changed still no profiles. Then I checked my steam cloud and my old .xml save from a week ago was there so I downloaded it and tried to put it in the UserProfiles folder but to my surprise, there was no such folder only these goh_profilesV2 folders that I have no clue about. So I proceeded to make my own UserProfiles folder and put my steam cloud save in it and restarted steam booted up the game and it actually worked my old profile wasn't classified as corrupted anymore and I actually played on it with my old progress. However after rebooting the game the same thing happened where it didn't save the game and my profile was shown as corrupted and guess what, the UserProfiles folder that I made was deleted too for some reason and when i tried to verify game files on steam it once again said i was missing 2 files and it redownloaded them but i dont know what those 2 files are since every time i boot up the game those 2 files get deleted as Steam keeps saying im missing them. So now I can't make new profiles and access my old save normally. I even turned off steam cloud to see if it's the issue but nothing happened nothing saves.

If you haven't already, one thing to try is manually deleting the entire game folder (don't use steam uninstall) and then reinstalling.
Making a new profile each time you start is a known (but fixable) issue but I've never heard of the game straight up deleting your profiles, but doing a completely fresh install has been known to fix other weird profile-related stuff so it's worth a shot.

also don't worry about the 2 files that fail to validate, that happens to everyone and doesn't seem to affect anything.

the game uses peer to peer, so if you are far away or one of you has bad internet then you will have lag

Ah, I'd managed to fix my steam deck controls myself in the game properties steam menu. Compatibility gets set to forced, then I picked the 'proton 9.0-4' I've seen mentioned online. That's fixed it for me

This happens once I reach 100% in loading the game. It started when I played on my steam deck and maybe after 10 minutes of bumping the graphics down the game crashed and then started doing this. The problem has persisted even though I am now on my desktop. Every time I try to verify the integrity it says "2 files failed to authenticate and will be reacquired." I have updated my drivers, deleted and redownloaded the game, went into the files and into the config folder and replaced the resolution listed with my resolution (and turned on read only after saving so it wouldn't revert). The game is obviously still running because I can hear the audio, so I plugged a controller in and having my friend walk me through I went to the settings to reset everything to defult and tried to change the resolution. Nothing has worked and I am at my wits end, please help.

for several weeks or even months now my risk of rain will only display this flashing line on startup
from the audio and the (very vague) shifts in color i imagine the game itself is running fine but will not display anything properly
previously i thought my bad laptop had given up on the game or something but now i've gotten a WHOLE NEW COMPUTER
and the same bug appeared again
on the new computer
so its definitely not a hardware issue

i tried uh

• reinstalling drivers
• trying to turn down all the graphics settings outside of the game with the nvidia app
• turning off the weird windowed optimization option in settings
• deleting (e.g resetting) the config file
• using steam to verify file integrity (always fails to validate 2 files and reacquires them, never did anything)
• reinstalling the game
• putting -fullscreen -w1920 -h1080 in the steam launch options thing
• running the game in windowed mode (the window was like infinitely small to the point where you could only see the close button iirc)
• running the game in compatibility mode for windows 8
• giving ror2 so many permissions that it made me do administrator checks whenever i ran it

but it seems that no matter what i do the game will have this extreme graphical error
if the game miraculously starts without the error it will appear again before the game can finish loading or when the game finishes loading

just now i replaced config with the blank one and changed my dpi settings
neither fixed

if there exists a way to just wipe all of my ror2 data id like to try it as while i do have lower teir graphics cards i dont think the issue would follow me between devices if it wasnt settings oriented in some way

Maybe also turn off steam cloud sync, the fact that the bug transferred between computers means it's probably some fucked-up setting that got saved to the cloud

you can also try manually deleting the entire game folder (don't use steam uninstall) and delete or move your save files, to get a completely fresh install.

hey everyone, I've been trying to search in the messages here, but I couldn't find, so maybe someone else has had this issue.
Im using linux mint, and before the DLC, the game was running perfectly, no lags or stutters.
After the dlc, I've been having these fps drops from 100+ to 60-40, and sometimes to 24-26. It is not because of the effects on the screen, as it happens after a few minutes into the run.
I have decent PC, so I doubt that this is an issue with hardware. I have latest drivers, I tried various version of proton, all the same, the issue is still there.

Been looking around a bit for fixes but nothing so far works.

• On linux mint cinnamon 22.3,
• First time install, no mod loader or things like that,
• Tried reinstalling multiple times, with and without firewall and on 2 different storage disks, verified ofc
• Turned off second monitor, has normal resolution, tried limiting to 60fps.,

When i launch the game a small window pops up, loads, then closes. Sometimes it has a red exclamation mark, sometimes not. The window is called "Unity 2021.3.33f1_ee5a2aa03ab2"

I'm quite new on linux and a lot of the fixes where you have to go into files are a bit diffferent.

Launching through Wine at least makes the game start but steamworks integration fails

hey, i run the game on linux, the best way to play ror2 on mint is to just install proton, set your proton install as your compat tool, and then run the game. ge proton has worked the best for me on mint, so id recommend you use that

the only major issue ive run into is that the load time for the game is horrible, but thats more so to do with the system clock (search up htep) rather than the game itself

Just installed Linux Mint on my machine, and i've spent ~2 hours trying to get the game to open. Using different Proton versions, including GE, has done nothing

the only time i've gotten the game open was running it through WINE via Lutris, but it gave a steamworks error and closed itself.

Hi! My partner is having stuttering issues + having her game freeze while playing RoR2
The game will just randomly drop frames or flat out freeze while she's playing, it happens more frequently in multiplayer than in singleplayer but it still happens there as well. Your on Xbox, the dlc (not actually downloaded though) isn’t available when playing offline

What you buy isn’t the dlc but a license to use that content ingame

So if you go offline even briefly and the ms can’t verify you own the content, it will be disabled and kick you out of any current run, ending it

Can someone help me with my problem? I play on pc and when I try and move forward it just starts making my character shuffle a lot, it also delays some of my other ability keybinds but they still work relatively well. You probably have an outdated mod in your setup, based on the Null Reference Exceptions. If you're not using mods, then you'll probably have to revalidate/reinstall your game, since there may be a weird reliance on an older mod that's incompatible with the newer DLC launch. If you do have a modlist, try disabling mods that touch items/pickups, survivors, networking(multiplayer stuff), drones, and UI.

I have simiular issues on linux mint. My friend has a better pc than i do and he has the same problems. I have tried everything short of factory reseting. From my testing I think the game dosen't fully utalized your CPU. As I'll be getting below 100 fps on the first stage and my CPU wont be at full utilization. yeah thats most certainly low ping/bandwidth. something you could try besides getting a wired connection is giving risk of rain an exception to your firewall.
go to command prompt as an administrator and paste this ipconfig /flushdns, once its does paste this netsh winsock reset

those commands flush your DNS, to make an exception to the firewall;
Go to firewall windows settings "windows defender firewall", click allow a program through windows firewall, scroll down to risk of rain 2 and check the box.

If you haven't tried it yet, a catch-all solution that works for a lot of issues is manually deleting the entire game folder, possibly including saves (or just move them somewhere else temporarily), turn off steam cloud so no corrupted save data carries over, and then reinstall. No guarantee it'll work but it's something to try.

I can also confirm that the 2 unverified files aren't a problem, that happens to everyone for some reason and doesn't seem to cause any issues.

Hello! I have a multiplayer problem and I wonder if anyone else encountered it?

At a seemingly random point, 2nd player(Not the Host), can't interact with anything: He can't shoot at enemies, use actives or open chests/portals. He can still take damage though!
If the Host goes to the next stage, the 2nd player gets stuck in an infinite black screen, while on the Hosts side it shows that the 2nd player is dead.

I suppose the issue is connected to 2 missing files that get deleted after the game is launched, but I'm not 100% sure. One of the deleting files is named "steam_appid", but I can't seem to find the other one that gets deleted. Completely deleting the game and reinstalling it doesn't seem to fix the 2 files issue, they still get deleted right after the game is launched.

I went to play with friends and I noticed whenever I open it from steam it changes to epic games but it says I’m online on steam. I can also only invite friends from epic games and not steam. Is this game not working properly or it's my pc? I have an i7 9700k and an rtx 2070super, the game is never reaching the frame cap (120) even in the first stages, gpu basically doesn't work (20 to 40% max usage) and cpu works a bit more, maximum 50%. Even at stage 3 the game runs at 60 fps, with low usage, even though my hardware should work towards reaching 120 fps but it doesn't.

i don't know if this counts as tech support or bugs report PC but every single time I open risk of rain 2 it crashes, I've opened it with and without steam, checked for updates, re-installed and uninstalled multiple times, check task manager to find anything wrong, and browsed the game files for anything out of the ordinary. this issue seems invisible, I get no error message I just run it and in less than 5 seconds before a window can even pop up after i click start it stops like you never ran it. Good evening, I'm having a problem. When I try to launch the game through Steam, it doesn't load properly. The screen freezes and the loading circle appears. I'ved got an issue that i've noticed is only with RoR2, not with anything else i've played, so I think its a game specific issue. Whenever i'm in fullscreen i get extreme frame dips, from 155 down to around 30 fps. The PC isn't the issue, it's brand new and until recently has been running it at a solid 150-160 fps consistently. When i change the resolution from 1980x1080 Fullscreen to 1980x1080 Windowed, the lag immediately stops and everything is fine. I'm okay playing the game like this, i just have zero clue what is causing it

Posting here because its a not-common thing. Fullscreen always use desktop resolution to display the game and settings resolution for render resolution. Would it be possible to change system resolution also? I think this might be a issue with unity and could not be changed... I want to play on my huge monitor with black borders to avoid neck pain.

You can change your desktop resolution that way

If you want letterboxing that's a LITTLE bit harder, but if you have an Nvidia card you can add letterboxes in the control panel I think
