Is there any reason why Risk of Rain 2 does not save my in-game settings? I want to keep the resolution low but it keeps going back to max resolution every-time I start a run or when I boot up the game.

Im trying to run a dedicated server. I downloaded the minimum required mods to fix the version mismatch between the dedicated server and game client (other than that, the game is vanilla). I can connect to the server, however, when I join the lobby I get the picture attached and cannot interact with anything. What am I missing to get this to work?

For more information, I am running the dedicated server from SteamCMD in a Windows 10 VM on my local server. I am able to connect to the server using the console command from in the game cl_password ""; "192.168.1.7:27015". Once I do, I get the lobby screen above. The only mods I have on the server are the mods from ThunderStore to fix the server version mismatch error so both client and server show as being on v1.2.4.4. I have not done any port forwarding because this is all on my LAN on the same subnet.

Open Task Manager -> look for the Unity Crash Handler (sometimes it's in the Steam Dropdown) try ending just the Unity Crash Handler.

Hey guys. Lag Spikes/Desync in co-op. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it's worse.

For example: we'd been playing for 3 days and it was perfect experience, but then it started to desync sometimes.
While it happens, nothing on our PCs isn't changing, CPU is normal as before and Internet is as good as it was, but I can't play the game normally, everything's super delayed.

We tried to change the Host, problem is the same. We both have great PCs and Wi-Fi connection, also tried to use wired connection to Internet, no help.

I'm new to this server and will try to find the solution in existing questions, but the story of this channel is so long that sometimes even CRTL + F don't help too much. I see this guy @Goo constantly replying with valid answers so I'll try to find his variations to the solution.

I live in Ukraine and my friend is from Israel, we didn't have that type of issue in any different game than Risk of Rain 2 so far. We also go to other P2P games to test the "lag spikes" and don't have the issue, but returning to ror2 everything's the same. Sometimes it disappears and everything's OK again.

When everybody comes back from work they boot up iptv and stream videos that's alot of data to process, not just to relay, but actually route each individual packet

I also don't think that this is the problem because we usually play in a daytime

nevermind! for anyone else having a similar issue, apparently it has to do with plugging in a new monitor. It should work if you unplug/turn off your side monitor, boot the game, close the game, and then turn on your other monitor and it shoulddd boot like normal afterwards.

No, i think i narrowed it dont to RAM usage.. looked at my task manager and Antimalware Service Executable is using up like 60% of my memory- not sure how to fix this though or why other games dont seem to be effected by the lack of ram but i dont know what else the problem would be

I'm having a lot of issues with RoR2 lately - on startup the game has a black screen and then starts not responding. I found a couple of threads both here and on the steam forums that suggests deleting game content and then redownloading with Steam Cloud disabled. But that didn't fix anything. There is simpler trick to have that, you can download r2modman (it's a mods manager for some games and for risk of rain 2 too) and you can just download mods on it, get CheatUnlocks and you can just left click everything you want to unlock in it

is there any way to boost fps for modded and vanilla? ive tried a million solutions like high performance modes, low game settings, etc and nothing has an impact. my game starts with a fine amount of fps and feels smooth but after stage 1 i go from 100+ to 60, then the farther i go it gets laggier and laggier until it is almost unplayable. i understand that the game is poorly optimized and a lot of enemies and effects can make it lag but on late stages when my fps is already around 5-15, i continue to lag after clearing the stage with no effects or anything that should be causing lag. when I first started playing the game would feel consistently smooth and i could hold around 80 fps and it has been torture ever since. please let me know if anyone has any solutions for this 🙏

i know on modded you can have a bug that can cause a intensive lag when you look at a direction on stage (doesn't happens every runs tho) but it happened to me a lot, only modded tho

Hey does anyone know why a friend of mine's Better Ui mod isn't working? For example the dps meter for him doesn't show up but it does show up for me and 2 others that we play with
We had him go into the config files and it reads as the statsdisplay config is already set to true

Sorry for not updating, and nope, nothing worked still crashing, this isnt just RoR too other games crash with that acess violation crash, ive tried dissble overclocking in bios, turns out xmp and overclock was disabled, memtest said my memories were fine dism said my pc was healthy sfc didnt work, i against a concrete wall here, ive tried everything and nothing worked

me and my friend got this game today, i have played about 6 runs and he hadnt done any. we tried to join eachother in a multiplayer lobby but whoever wasnt hosting it would just get kicked back to the lobby. I havent found a fix and i have tried many things:

• verifying game files
• running .exe as administrator
• port forwarding
• spam joining (makes game crash)
• turning off crossplay
  there seems to be a lot of people on the internet with this problem but none of their solutions have helped
  i have had problems with multiplayer steam games before including barotrauma, terarria, and yomi hustle. for all of which, i can only join about 20% of games. this means i might have an issue with my internet but i cant imagine what it could be to create problems in such niche areas

I port forwarded 7777 and it seemed to help; the first client join shows the regular lobby GUI but with nothing actually loaded in, the second join sends client back to the menu, and the third does everything normally until the game starts and the client is sent back to the menu again. I learned that there is a console that reports errors so I caught the error message for the first join which is what we ideally want to work. here is the error code:

for anyone else that wants to help, the problem is that when i try to join a lobby with my steam friends it kicks me back to the menu. Things I have tried:

Their specs should be more than sufficient to run the game, and this is the only game that has significant multiplayer latency (For example, there are no connection issues when we play bg3 together). Hello, recently there is been multiple reports of a group of players that join public lobbies and ruin it with cheats, either by instantly killing all the players in the lobby and ending the run or, just like what happened to me yesterday, one of the same reported players joined my public lobby and crashed my game the moment he joined.
I was wondering if there is anyway to prevent this ? like maybe blacklist specific players from joining as it seems they can't do it unless they join the lobby.

And he would need to use host 1 command.

But I seem to be running into an issue now of failing to connect. ports should be forwarded still, they haven't been changed. made sure no other server clients are loaded that might be using those ports by restarting the system. Firewall is setup. no vpn. It is modded, but was modded previously as well.

My game is all kinds of effed up and I don't know how to fix it. Tried lots of fixes.

So an explanation:
My D drive came loose from my motherboard and messed up a lot of stuff, like I had to change steam to use it again when I fixed it and reconnect all the games.

Much later, tried running the game. Crashed at 0% load on start. Thought it would be Thunderstore Mod Manager, so ran it from there as vanilla. Crashed at 0% again. Deleted all mods, ran again. Crash on 0%. Deleted thunderstore profile for the game. Still crashed. Uninstalled thunderstore and ran through steam. Still crashed. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Still crashed. Verified integrity. Still crashed. Restarted computer. Still crashed.

Finally I found out it was missing the config file. Put that in there. Finally ran. Except steam overlay won't work, can't play multiplayer. It darkens the screen and that's it. Checked and steam overlay is enabled as well. Clicking on the plus button in a multiplayer lobby does nothing.

Any time I've tried to create or join a lobby for the past year or two, it never works. I've tried every fix people have recommended on forums. I can't see a list of lobbies. Can't create a lobby. As of late I've been having a weird issue w RoR2 that does not normally happen where after a while of playing itll start occasionally tanking down to 30-20 fps and go back to normal for a bit, then tank back down. Hey guys, could really use some help since this has been going on for more than a week now. Could anyone help with my issue, me (usa) and two friends (canada) always play ror2 together, never had issues until last night, they host and I lag very bad, I host and they lag, but I don't have any lag anywhere but ror2, all other games and programs are fine. Game refers to steam api for fetching player names while internally refering to players by steam id. Try to reinstall steam client. You can also try to install the game on different disk to exclude game files mishaps. The userdata of the steam's api stored along with steam client, see if deleting it for the game have an effect. Backup it of course before testing.

I actually fixed it by updating windows and enabling these in the system config settings
I set number of processors to the max count and max memory to the what i have (8gb)
not sure why these exactly fixed but i read somewhere that unity games can sometimes "run out of memory" ; so I randomly enabled these and its working again lol

Ror2 doesn't even load, it fails on initialization at not logged steps. No crash interception too.

You clearly have played before.
It might be some weird windows update or software change that makes the games do that.
I'd installed a fresh os with bare minimum drivers on some external drive to see if that runs the game.

Have you tried to update drivers for gpu, bios mb?

Likely the 1st game left some settings in userdata/appdata/root folder.

Go to steam settings, add another steam library folder, download the game with steam in that new library folder. Try to run. If it runs you need to manually delete the root folder of the game on your main library folder, not just with steam, but actual folder.

If it doesn't run
Go to steam userdata, find numbered folders first one is your account id, there are many numbered folders inside those are game id. I don't remember ror2 id, but it has 60 in it, make sure you found correct one, backup it and dete.
Try to run

Then go to appdata and delete hopoo folders from both local and local low.
Try to run

If that hypothesis correct you should be able to play from fresh os. No need for mb driver/bios updates in that case.

I am gonna bounce for weekend, leave feedback on how that went. I don't have any other suggestions for now anyway, but the pirated game somehow should emulate steam api systems the ror2 needs to load. If those emulated systems are from older version (looks like years old version) there will be no crash exceptions as devs never expected that case to be in place.

I get using pirated software to test before buying, but you need to be careful and knowledgeable to do that.

I've beaten the game several times on the normal difficulty unlocking new characters but as soon as i stop the game in steam and restart all the discoveries and characters and achievements, I got from the previous runs goes away. I can't unlock new items to use and can't use the new characters unless I play immediately after winning a run but if i close the game gone. my run history stays but nothing else. iv unlocked Captain Artificer Engineer as well as loader and the game doesn;t save the progress. i'vr also gotten several achievements that go away. My steam achievements stay the run history stays but nothing else will if i close the game on steam. does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this. Ive mad esure to validate teh files make sure my steam cloud storage is okay as well as making sure my physical storage was not full. i really love this game but can't experience anything new or make any progress although i am having successful runs.

I found out what was the problem. The game did not render his name so he left then it got rendered and then joined back in and then his name showed up. A better explanation is he joined then it said( " " Connected) then he left and that said (FriendExample Disconnected)
Then when he joined back again it said (FriendExample Connected) and then it worked fine. I do not know if this bug is on the games side or steams but him rejoining is a fix to my problem thanks anyways though. 😅

I previously tried several fixes for this issue recommended to me but it is still not fixed, i appreciate being able to get my items but now I cant actually progress the logbook at all. there are certain challenges as well that the 9import save option pinned does not have available to select. so to some degree i still can't progress in the game naturally. Recently I noticed that some of my runs disappear from logbook, or the run is still there and I have same achievement on steam but I have lost the related achievement in game. On Artificer, my Monsoon run is still recorded in the logbook, but the skin is still locked; same thing happened to Rex and MUL-T, I have used them to beat the game (I have the video of these runs), but somehow those runs disappeared from logbook and the survivors' information is also locked in logbook. I have used a lots of mods in the game, but I don't know which mod is causing the problem.

@pale prairie the reason it is that particular stage having x2 director points and also prespawned actors (well, entity, but let's not dive to technical).
And the issue is all those spawned actors take 2 times more processing and more importantly here - bandwidth of the networking subsystem.
And that leads us to cause that the game already running netcode delay compensation at peak of its ability finally snaps disconnecting clients with unreliable channel.
All the above imply a solution which is simply to configure your connection properly. Of course that's easy to say, but hard to do. That's why i am not gonna do it for you, but i wrote this pretentious garbage already so why i wouldn't just tell you and your playermate to try hosting with your phone hotspot or use workaround with radminvpn that detailed in pinned messages under lobby malfunction...

Hi. I'm new to this game and having some issues. I played this game for two hours on Win 11 and didn't notice anything strange. Then I reinstalled Win 10 on my PC, like a fresh boot, everything new and reinstalled the game and I notice that RoR2 runs pretty hot. I just have updated the SO (I'm in Kubuntu and updated to Kubuntu 24.04 LTS), and now the game caps at like, 2-3 FPS. It worked great and my pc is fully capable (And did before updating) of playing at 100+ FPS, now it caps at 2 :( (I tried using GE Proton, Proton Experimental and Proton 9.0 to 8.0)

Do you run MangoHUD & gamescope, anything of the like that enforces frame limiting? VSync maybe? Are we talking desktop or a laptop, bc a power setting on the latter or not running off the wall could be a cause.

X11 on it's own I've heard can be iffy with games, hence why for example the Steam Deck uses Wayland through gamescope.

Same with internet. Speed means only speed. Not ping, not delay, not packet loss, not incapsulation not many things that make it good.
I bet if you connect through phone hotspots the game will run sub 80ms ping.

Otherwise you need to find what chain link loses nat sensitive ipv4 data on udp ports that game uses. There's like 98% chance ghe problem is nat configuration 1% for reall shitty isp who knowingly ommit that data to save a buck and the rest % for cosmic rays.

2 possible causes:
Corrupted msvc++ component
Anti-virus tampering with the file (it is sensitive to data rewrite, you can copypaste exact co tents of corrupted profile to fresh one and it will work, but if you resave it again it may be flagged by the game and deem corrupted)

How to avoid:
Disable steam cloud save.
Do occasional manual backup.

Msvc++ - Microsoft visual C++ component. It is installed with the game. Game runs on 2007 one (link pinned). It may be corrupted by a pack that includes 2015-2019 ones, rare but it did happen.
Fix is simple - uninstall any msvc in programs and features that has 2019 in name. Download linked ones both for 86 and 64 versions, install and reboot.

Names may vary, writing from my memory. And it's a leaky one.

I am experiencing a disconnection problem in Multiplayer mode. I am not sure what triggers this issue; it might be a connection problem. However, it feels strange since both my friend and I are playing with a wired connection. The game disconnects the player who was invited into the game. Everything seems to freeze: you can attack and use abilities, but no damage is inflicted.

Before the Devotion Update, we played and completed the game without any issues. Could this problem be related to the recent update?

You have some driver installed for hid that make the game confuse them as controller and take gamepad mapping in use which has no buttons mapped.
If you're positive there is none try new save, it will generate blank gamepad map. You can cut it fro. The profile and plant it to your main profile then to repair it.

Hi all, I bought the game and faced this problem. I start the game and after about five minutes the PC hangs intentionally. And in the menu and in the game error is the same, I have to restart the PC. The same problem is with the game Valheim. All drivers are updated to the latest, installed the latest Windows updates, PC does not heat up, with hardware all is well.

So i've been having issues with the game as of late: Every time I open the game, not only does it immediately kill my steam process, but it also freezes and stops responding once the loading icon appears with the 0%. I've tried multiple fixes which have not worked so far, so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it? According to support, it might have been caused due to presence of previous mods and them messing with directories. Any help or information is appreciated.

well, you could try to see if it's the firewall or your antivirus doing something with it, but it's not that it could be just corrupted files, somehow

when we first launch a game there is a pop-up generally with the firewall on private connexion or public, if you chosed public that could be maybe why too iirc

Player.log it is now. Same place.

@narrow eagle try to uninstall your drivers using DDU, it's a software that clean uninstall drivers, it help when there is issues with drivers, also if you own a nvidia card, you can install Nvidia clean install too (NVCInstall)

but nvidia clean install is more if you don't want some bloatwares or things that you don't need

did you try to reinstall them and verify the games files too ?

Hi fellas I'm having issues reaching stable 60fps on a docked SD Oled

I believe the issue is due to the monitor's refresh rate cannot be saved. Each time I changed to 144hz or 120hz it kept reverting back to 180hz.

Laptops usually have joined cooling unit for gpu and cpu. When one goes for 100% (typically the gpu, especially with uncapped framerate) it heats up the other (cpu) making it throttle. This usually ends with lower performance too.

That's connection. Mods introduce more things to track and thus increased frequency and bandwidth use. Also more computing on host's side. But usually this is restricted connection's fault, like when you forget to disable vpn.
You shouldn't expirience that if you're the host, but in case of poor connection clients will see this issue anyway.
Try direct or relayed connection (lan emulated with radminvpn for exaple works the best) see pinned comments for lobby malfunctions.

Likely restrictive network. Idk how xbox handles connections, but you can try to test with using your phone hotspot for your router beeing the client.

Hello there,

I'm new to this game (15,9 hours and loving it) but i'm having technical issues.
On Ubuntu, with proton experimental the games runs like a charm without any problems but on windows every time i launch the game i just get a black screen and then risk of rain 2 not responding. I have reinstalled the game on a different drive, I have tried pressing alt, alt+enter, shift+enter, windows+enter on startup but nothing works. I also updated my GPU drivers. I don't have any problems with any other steam games so I don't really see what could be wrong here.

I saw that I wasn't the only one to have this problem but none of the fixes they found worked for me.
If anybody has an idea on how to fix this it would make my day.
