Interesting! I very much did verify the files but I do not have the file.

All 2223 files successfully validated. The only file in the config folder is still server_startup.cfg

I downloaded that file and placed it in the config folder. Going to test in a moment.

Just got the game and I am literally unable to go past the first 5 minutes of the black screen. Game freezes and crashes Steam. Tried unplugging each monitor, DPI settings and using the empty config...

This is the first (few) times launching so fresh install, no mods or similar.

Is it possible that the ROR2 game engine isn't optimized to take advantage of more of our pc resources? I notice that I am being limited to about 90 fps when idling (when I finish the teleporter event and nothing is going on), but my gpu and cpu are only sitting at 40% and 20% usage, so I am just confused as to why I'm lagging when my gpu has plenty of resources left to utilize

Hey, im having huge problems with multiplayer, when im not hosting i cant do anything but run, dmg doesnt register and skills(e.g. bandits smoke bomb) come out like 30-60 secs late. Same deal for my buddy when im the one hosting. We live within a walking distance from each other and neither of us having any other problems

Is there maybe a mod for that?

Hey, I've had issues with launching Risk of Rain 2. It hasn't been an issue for me in the past (77 hours), but every time I try launching now, it crashes. I tried everything in Pin 4, and saw the stuff for Pin 6, but I'm not sure how to do the stuff there?

well the first one is just if you got some software like Sonic Studio that mess with the audio in game
"The only recommended audio driver is Realtek" this one i'm not sure about it but it's just probably related to your audio setup, if you got a headphone you could try to reinstall the audio driver of it but it shouldn't be the case here, remember that bringing a error number / crash log can help to help the issue

The second "AVX, Advanced vector Extensions" this one is mostly for the Intel and AMD CPU, it just allow compatible processors to perform more demanding functions when used with compatible software if i remember correctly

Make sure you chasing the right crabs, usually first stage after looping they appear. Also trying to do it in an mp session seems to not count

hey so I can't ceratea a multiplayer game. clicking "start game" in the preliminary menu does nothing. my game constantly crashes after ~30 minutes, for seamingly no reason, i could be in combat i could be just walking around it doesn't seem to matter, could be at the beginning of a stage or at the end or in the middle, i HAVE to use proper save if i actually want a run to go beyond 30 minutes and even then itll crash every stage, a lot of the time on the same stage as well. ive tried verifying game files ive tried downloading every performance and anti crash mod i could find with no significant improvements, i get around 70-140 fps with everything as high as itll go so performance isnt the problem and like i said above it doesnt need to be lagging at all to crash, all of this in single player ive disabled crossplay as well and that didnt do anything. my drivers are up to date i heard something about having more than one monitor could be causing crashing, ill give that a try but thats kinda a last resort for me.

You would want to restart the pc after doing that tho, messing with registry can be a bit dangerous sometime but in case of a game i don't think it matter that much

Trying to figure out wtf is wrong with my game, was working just fine the other day but now it's literally unplayable. It always has said ???? Over my binds and each time I get on the game I had to manually bind each action but now I cannot look up or down. I spawn in and it forces me to look down and I can't fix it. Can't use MnK either. Tried loading the game without a controller connected and everything said no binding and there was no cursor for my mouse either. I literally cannot play the game right now and it's very aggrevating. I've checked my steam setting and device manager and nothing has helped. What do I do???

the config.cfg file is basically your settings in game, it will reset after u delete them so either you backup it or you note / screenshot what u had before, it is located in your risk of rain 2 local files on steam.

Deleted the file and for a second the mouse came back in the title screen then went away again. Loaded into the game using my controller, set my binds and I'm stuck looking down once again. It's a power A Xbox controller, same one I've been using

Other players continue on as per usual, but in my instance of the game enemies freeze and I cannot perform any interactions. forcing me to quit. This happened 3 times in a 2-hour play session. hey, I'm having the multiplayer black screen issues, I've tried all the usual stuff (crossplay disabled, files integrity verified etc.) and the reddit post which didn't work as well. Also at the moment I can't set up a server due to port forwarding restrictions. Only thing I've yet to try is uninstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ libs as suggested by @steady topaz as one of the fixes, but I'm not sure how to do that - can I get some help with that plz? I currently have 2008 x64, 2015-2022 x64 and x86. tysm

To uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ you just need to go to your control panel and search for it, but i think if you download the version of visual c++ you need, there's no need to do that and if it's the same version, it will just replace it i think but i'm not sure about that, you can try

okay just like me in the control panel there is that, you can try to uninstall the 2015-2022 versions you have you have and reinstall them on the microsoft website

if it still don't work, you would want to try this

some pins are a bit "older" just like 2021, the visual c++ had updates so technically you would want the last version of it and since there wasn't any problems (at least from my knownledge) about the last update of visual c++ with this game, it shouldn't be a issue

most likely corrupted files so the scans fix them technically

but again, the most common issue is crossplay / and the box settings (connexion), firewall or VPN being used

also i'm not a expert myself but i suggest not to uninstall the old microsoft visual c++ versions, since some programs/games need the packages from theses old versions

mostly x64 and x86 tho iirc, if ur not in 32 bits at least

I tried using r2modman to download and configure the Public Gauntlet mod, and ever since I did my game hasn't loaded, not even in vanilla. Is there anything I can show to see what's wrong/how I can fix it?

Heya, Ive reached a brick wall at this point I cant seem to stay in a lobby for more than 30 seconds without being booted back to the main menu

I can see the games that pop up, it looks like it loads fine but then I cant do anything but go back or just get booted out and for some weird reason its only when this is attempted it like bricks my internet until I close the game down, this doesn't happen with any other game I own and only has become a issue recently as I picked up the game again for the dlc with my friends (so like a year apart from me last playing the pc version)

Now Ive tried the files validating thing, uninstalling the game fully and reinstalling , drivers are all updated, crossplay is off, I know my save data isnt corrupted as Ive played on a different computer in my uni with the same save

So I literally cannot think of anything else I can do to fix this, its not a massive deal I cant play multiplayer its just rather a shame, its like one of my favourite games

Files in root folder hold only performance settings, config.cfg namely. Gamepad mapping (controlls), game progress and everything related to unlocks including logs are stored in player profile that sits in hidden appdata folder of c drive.

@timber orbit both of you open steam, find the game, right click to properties, local files - open root folder of the game. Select it and press delete.
Now get back to steam, same window, but now press verify game files - that will load what you just deleted, but without mod files leftovers.
Load the game, select your profile, change settings, leave crossplay off.
Save progress (profile) won't be affected with those actions.
From this moment try using mods now.

@wicked canyon i don't know why this happens, but your game runs networking on already busy port. Check your network settings, it may be restricted.
Open ports (tcp/udp) 7777, 27015, 27016.
Game, Dedicated server, Steam
Try to disable any software that needs intetnet, including discord. See if game connects then.

@wicked canyon you can try to use lan emulation software like radmin if you don't find what causing your problem. That way you go around it.
Get radminVPN.
Get in the same room.
Check the connection, should be green light and pinging (shows numbers in ms).
Get in the game.
Host: press **ctrl+alt+** (in that order, all keys must be pressed), type **host 1** Client: Same deal with ctrl+alt+, type connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:7777 (xxx is the ip of the host provided by radmin)

You may try to use no port or different port that radmin suggest if it happens to bric your connection too

90c is common to be the throttling cutout. While gpu can be rated to work above 100°C other components in the thermal interfaces may not.
See if frequency of gpu cores drops when this happens. At 100% load that should be maxed out, but if there is thermal throttling involved frequency drops.

Try to downgrade graphics, namely the effects culling, shadows and resolution. Other settings like texture quality or draw distance isn't so expensive.

If you have cats you better to clean air ducts and radiators.

Generally ror2 shouldn't load 2060 to it's max performance capacity, yet it absolutely could tank down beeffiest cpu with what happening in longer runs.

Laptops tend to set cutoff at 100°c for both cpu and gpu, but that temp is...

The devs are open about what you can do to the game, there are vr mods, custom input sequence scripts and so on and on, so there is no problems to go, unless you cause other players uncomfort. I personally think that whatever device/way you use to control a game is fair play. Ask your playmates if they are ok with it and in 90% of times you get to share your secrets for others to adopt. Have fun.

I did go with the entire tread, nothing meaningful mentioned apart mods and manual uninstal.

What you having is networking problem. But just to confirm that i need you to boot up the game (if you were playing then close it and open again) go to settings and double check crossplay is off. Then try to host a multiplayer public game. Leave the lobby be for 10min regardless if people join or not, let it run even if people start a run.
Then end the run and quit the game.
Now you have a fresh player.log in appdata folder.
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\LocalLow\Hopoo Games, LLC\Risk of Rain 2\Player.log
Appdata is a hidden folder, open it with win+r "appdata"
Drop that log here and @me

What about radmin, I'd like to see what you read about it, it comes to me as a surprise they did some shady stuff. Were my 1st recommendation for long time. They are slightly more dangerous than vpns you see ads for, just because they are fiddling with your network, but essentially it's exactly the same thing. Well, not gonna push it, but it's not only known to work, but proven in very restricted nat (like ipv4 omitting compression aka very very shitty wireless isp)

Your alternative may be dedicated server that's rented or hosted from your pc that isn't having problems.

@spark merlin in very rare cases windows update may butcher some critical code that your specific gpu have troubles now.
If you have separate drive (even usb stick) you may install portable os with bare bones win10 and drivers for your laptop, steam and the game. In this case you can test that, but if nothing changes it's inconclusive.

Sometimes life and shitty network forces you to learn a scripting language just to load adsl router ui to look up your current connection gateway to compare it with prerecorded and known to be working gateways in order to drop the connection and reconnect new session until it happens to be the right gateway that does actually allows packets from my pc to non common ports.

Point is.. networking is always shit, and that's not gonna change soon, despite that we have the technology for decades.

You essentially have second operating system on your laptop. They are not sharing any files, only hardware, actual bpards, transistors, device.
When you have fresh os installed it comes with least possibilities for software to be broken and the game will show normal performance if installed on fresh os and the reason for the issue in the first os was indeed in software.
Having separate, second os on separate, second drive ensures you loose nothing from your current os, no files gone deleted, no passwords in autoforms forgotten, no software keys or license lost.
Just a reversible test. I'd just reinstalled os, bc it's not a big deal for me to restore things quickly, but having second os just for test and then when you're done with it just unplugging the usb drive is way easier for you.
To have a second os you don't need even os keys, no need to buy anything. Just an usb drive or stick that's big enough to fit the os. (Portable variants are smaller)

@wicked canyon Yeap, went thru the log. It's definitely your network rejecting ipv4 connections either by nat configuration, isp or other software.
Check that you're not running any vpn service, reboot your router (if you have previously saved setting apply them), check that ror2 isn't rejected by brandmouer (try to disable it)

What happens is you're able to pass data thru steam servers (handshake) just fine, but when game attempts to establish p2p connection to pass data from host (you) to clients it fails right away without any packet sent/received. Game then shuts the host normally as if connection was closed.

Hello, when me and my friend play during the day (8:00 AM to 6:00 PM) the game goes fine, there's a little delay but it's manageable, but when we play at night (9:00 PM and onward) it's literally unplayable. This would be fucky and i can't point to proofs, but.
Your game uses pc network adapter, it uses router, it uses switch or other hardware on either nearest tower or attic of apartment building, it uses your isp hub, isp gives you a gateway, it routes your isp internal network to external local (city) network (here is your problem starts) and then it depends if you're connecting to your friend in same city as yours, badically connecting the same way but backwards, or thru alot more links intercity or even country.

When everybody comes back from work they boot up iptv and stream videos that's alot of data to process, not just to relay, but actually route each individual packet. For (any) game you need no more than x packets, but for video it's 1000x. When isp does shitty job they don't upgrade processing capacity, while still selling data plans to public. And there is a way to check what data goes thru and prioritize that data processing over other data like games or non common ports. So bad isp makes so that customers who watch tv are in priority bc they pay more and ask less.

What you can do is to use vpn with incapsulation (or data compression/encryption) so isp algorithm do not recognize what data type is routed or get yourself (white ip) static ip that is always yours. Usually it cost you, but comes with benefits of no routing on your upload so you can be host to almost anyone (but not worldwide)

I'd recommend to try radmin vpn, there is siad encryption, it helped in some not very restricted isp local networks for me, but sometimes i had to reboot my router for better gateway. It's almost impossibe to get it in rush hour, but if you manage to get it just before it's likely be yours for upto 24hrs (max session lenght)

No matter what talk to your isp and explain that no app that needs upnp to be on works after certain hours, explain that you can't connect p2p type connection. Do not tell where you get that, if asked to name said programs -refuse, it's for work.

This usually gets you a priority on unrestricted gateway as technicians don't want to babysit those accounts each time something gets broken for presumably work, because those customers get it working or leave for other isp bc there is no other choice for them.

What isp is that btw?

Things you can do to check if it's even the problem:
Press win+r type in cmd.exe
Black window opens, you need to type there or use right click and selection menu to paste things in.
Type there tracert xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Where x is your friend's external ip that can be found here: http://www.myip.com copy with copy button next to external.

It would do a series of jumps thru each link of your connection. You can see where the data gets delayed. Isp nodes are almost always labeled with parts of isp name or city name. Google for named nodes, maybe there were local town forum topics about your isp shitty job.

Forgot to fit it in the explanation part: connection speed =/= connection quality at all. It's better to have prioritized connection with wast resolving hardware that let's you pass 1mB/s than 100mB/s but only at certain hours and with less reliability. For games atleast.
That was some cruel joke years ago when adsl (telephone line) was better than wired cat5 cable in my former city. Because everyone started to swap and isp didn't have enough harsware for cable at the time, while load on phone wires decreased each day. I had stable 1.7mB/s 90ms ping on adsl and almost never 100mB/s on cable with lots of jumping around delay.

@warm bobcat set your settings, close the game, find config.cfg and make it flagged read only (right click, properties) that way it wouldn't be replaced. Progress, saves and etc are saved separately so nothing bad happens. Just remember that you did it when you need to change settings again.

Deleting config.cfg makes game to regenerate default one.

Solution: steam overlay of any kind is impossible, however you can set steam to open on one monitor and the game to open on the other (without having to plug in the hdmi after booting up.) I went into nvidia and told it to handle the game at a global high performance rate, with both monitors refreshing at 60hz. This other monitor is not capable of 144hz without an extra cable (I only have an HDMI).

V sync is off. the cap is at 60. the game is not being launched in administrator mode nor compatibility mode and I didn't have to reset my pc for the 4th time

Welp, it's back on doing it, it seems like the profile was corrupted, i reinstalled steam, and it went back to crashing...

sadly i don't think you can recover it in any ways, you can use cheatunlocks mod if you want to recover some of your unlocks tho

also probably for the next times before it corrupt again, you would want maybe to disable steam cloud (but maybe not too)

verify your files on steam too (of the game)

i don't actually know what cause a profile to be corrupted

it often helped people so maybe on your end it will work too, but be aware this one take a bit of time, could count 1 hour or 2

I have a friend who is unable to play the game. Every time he quits or restarts the game it requests that he creates a new profile. Upon doing this it does not save any progress of achievements\unlocks\skins\characters. We have verified game files, reinstalled, tried installing on different drives.

So it has been discovered that ROR2 does not create a folder under his C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\x\632360 folder

I work in IT and there was almost no similar issues documented anywhere

So I really dove into this issue

Brother had the Steam program installed outside of Programx86 and it was causing a ton of registry issues. Manually uninstalled steam and reinstalled. This resolved his issue.

You can delete a profile from the game by delete key from the window on your screenshot.
Make a backup of the corrupted profile file beforehand.

get your friend or you get the same mod profile, or try to delete the mods folder and reinstall the mods or just update it if you can

Hey I'm having an issue, I'm trying to play RoR2 with friends in multiplayer with mods (sharesuite) but whenever I try to host a game, on pressing "create game" after pressing multiplayer on the main menu it crashes. I've tried reinstalling both r2modmanager and risk of rain 2. We have no multiplayer incompatible mods since someone else can host and it works. It also crashes on on pressing "create game" when starting unmodded or over steam, but it doesn't crash when the wrong Risk of Rain 2 directory is chosen in R2modman so it seems to be an issue with the mod maanger but I don't know what I can do with that information now since I already tried reinstalling the mod launcher. Any ideas/help would be appreciated.

In my most recent run it happened at around 40 minutes: it happened while I was sprinting to the teleporter and I activated it while sprinting. my game completely stopped working and crashed. I have reinstalled the game a few times, I have ferified my files through steam, everythings seems to work as intended but the crashes keep occurring one way or another. My game will constantly crash and I have had this problem with the game for a long time I really love the game, but the random crashes are extreamly frustrating. It will happen at any point of the run. I have tried verifying files, redownloading, running as admenistator, restarting pc, and I dont have crossplay enabled I saw something about that causing crashes. weird thing I'm getting when save editing lunar coins. not really a game breaking glitch since I am messing with the save file, but I figured this is probably a more likely place to find an answer than modding or something.

Heya a friend of mine was trying to load up the game for Risk of rain 2 and he tried with and without mods. hes updated his driver and he has reinstalled the game and still just crashes as he boots the game. He has also verified the files with steam aswell and we just cant figure out why the game wont boot.

After Creating a Lobby in multiplayer, the guest of the lobby has a bugged gui. Several blue drop down menus appear at the right side of the screen, and do not allow either person to ready. If voting is turned on, only 1 person is visible on the bar. Both players tried to host and both guests experienced same issue. This is consistent after verifying integrity of game files and a fresh reinstall. Happens in base version of the game, no mods installed.

Hello again. I've looked into all of the pins as well as some other solutions I've seen listed around, and had absolutely no luck. The game crashes before it can even generate a dump log, as the dump folders are literally just empty. I am sort of at a loss here.

I'd opt to send a crash report to the team as suggested but I can't even get that much out of it.

I'm having an issue with this game and i just made this account to get a solution.

Last year it worked fine for me
But now it crashes on startup (Unity 2019.4.26f1_e0392c6b2363) and i have around 200 hours in this game.

I looked through the crash report and it says the following: aticfx64.dll caused an Access Violation.

I have been looking for solutions but none worked.

Here's what i have done:
*reset my pc
*updated my graphics driver (last update was on 2016 anyway)
*i tried installing older versions of my graphics driver
*i have verified the integrity of files
*tried running this game as administration
*i used amd cleanup
*both sfc/scannow and dxdiag says there's no problem
*i used memory test to see if my ram is faulty (there's no problem)
*i have uninstalled the dlc
*i disabled dual graphics
*i have uninstalled the game

There's probably more but i can't properly remember them....

Here's my pc specs just in case :
Windows 10
AMD radeon hd 7670m
Trinity devastator mobile
Ram 4gb
AMD A10-4600m 2300Mhz

And i feel extremely silly right now because i couldn't figure it out at first and wasted a lot of time 😭 (because I'm not good when it comes to pc and tech)

If anyone who have AMD gpu and have this issue (aticfx64.dll caused an Access Violation) (crash upon launch) try the following:

Open up amd control center and go to power -> switchable graphics and set both of the options to "force power-saving graphics"

And then go PowerPlay and set both options to maximize performance, if you don't do that your game will run on 10fps and make sure to set risk of rain on high performance

Hi! I have got a strange issue while playing with my son. We are both using the Steam version and are 'friends' in Steam. But when one of us create a server and choose 'Friends only', the other one can't see the server; while there's no issue when we select 'Public'. @silk canyon straightforward ram read/write error.
The error says that clearly, even without me looking at your logs i know what written there.

There is no one for all solution for this kind of error. There is no clear indication what actually happens.

What you can do is reduce load on ram train. That directly impacts the chance to that error occuring. Go to your bios and disable or set to 1 your xmp memory profile. Do not open other programs while playing, that especially includes any performance enhancers that claim to speed up or boost performance. Make sure your c drive has sufficient speed under load and is in good condition overall.
Try to update bios.
Try to hold your game on separate clear os.
Get rid of msvc 2019 and any other that include 2019, install both 64 and 86 version from 2015 (pinned message here have the link) if unable to install those components ear your registry with ccleaner and try again.
Reseat ram cards and tr them one by one and in different combinations.

There's big chance none of this helps.
And also send me error.log regardless, might be new problem i am not aware of.

@strong token there is internal setting for aim assist, i never poked around that, but vaguely remember some entry gets saved in profile in gamepad mapping section, maybe make a copy of your profile and change said mapping to see.
Tip: open ingame console by pressing ctr+alt+' in that order. Use help command for command list, see if anything there for controller aim assistance and drop that to false or 0.
