This issue occurs when Windows is reporting a gamepad, joystick, or other input device providing a non-neutral input. This is usually caused by:

1. Having a gamepad, flight stick, HOTAS, pedal, racing wheel, or any other kind of non-keyboard/non-mouse input device plugged in. Simply unplug the device from your computer.
2. Having vjoy installed. If you've ever tried to use a GameCube controller with your PC, you probably have it installed. Opening your computer's Device Manager window should allow you to disable or uninstall it.

@worldly moon this is where your profile file is stored. crossed out in red is my steam ID so just look for your own and click on that. The save file is stored as an XML document you can open in most file editors like notepad or wordpad. I'm not exactly sure which data you can safely remove however, but it should be near the top. Ensure you have a backup of the original file in case something is deleted and the game goes haywire

Im pretty sure that's wrong call on effect function on whoever hosted the game. This is very very rare, even so if it's presistent, that means wrong data saved instead of right data that shouldn't ever be rewritten unles there was an actual game files update.
Run you hdd heck for errors, if you have a resident antivirus check it's carantine for game files.
What i have seen on the vid is one in a million random bitswap.
Or no, just a guess based on the vid only, actual logs could tell more.

Effects are from grandparents slam. They are ingame, netcode receives instructions from host to spawn those effects on all clients. Some effects like screen tint have parameters that do not get synced by netcode for compression and speed reasons hence is difference they described.
It's similar to whole spawn as larva bug, where player chosen character body isn't sent from client to host and host just picks whatever id for that client he have in its ram which is 0 that happens to be an id for larva bug body.

This effects thing alone, even if being rare af isn't something that computers protected from. Usually this gets started because of random bitswap in memory, ram or processor caches. It gets fixed by data correction on lext load or when internal systems of cpu notice mismatch. In that case this should be fixed on next stage, game load or pc reboot.

But what was described is persistent, meaning the data is saved into permanent memory. Ssd or hdd. It's neatly impossible for bitswap to happen in hdd, maybe when internal circuitry of hdd controller that aligns needle head does its job writing data... but this needs for the game to rewrite the game dll files that contain instructions for function that controls effects ingame for the engine to display. It's like a million times less probable to happen. And in case of ssd bitswap could happen. @vapid wagon so tell me what is the game saved on, hdd or ssd?
Anyhow if it is indeed what i think it is, go get some lottery tickets. Chances are you ate a bunch of for your breakfast.

i just recently bought risk of rain 2 and the DLC, and i've been playing for about 52 hours with every character unlocked and nearly every achievement. i wanted to test a run, so, (unwisely,) i went into the userprofile and changed the amount of lunar coins my profile had. once i check back in risk of rain 2, i see that my profile is corrupted. i look on all of the forums and i see that nothing i try is working. i imagine that other people have had this problem, but i really don't want to lose this data! does anyone know a possible fix? thank you! :3

Download both 86 and 64 versions, install.
Run the game and close it once it loads, run files integrity check again and try the skills.

ror1 requires port forwarding for multiplayer which is do-able but takes a lot of effort on your end

ror2 multiplayer on consoles uses p2p connection as well, but requires going through official servers not affiliated with gearbox. also, you cannot play crossplay with other consoles, only the same family as your own (xbox/ps/switch)

Hey, so after about 30 hours of play on my new laptop, Risk of Rain 2 no longer runs at a framerate high enough to be playable. Prior to this morning I was able to run the game at its highest settings and rarely dip below 60 frames, but this morning I tried to play and the game and even on it's lowest settings I'm unable to hit anything more than 20 frames even on the first stage with no items. No other games are affected by this performance issue at all, it's only Risk of Rain 2.

My drivers are completely up to date and I even went as far as to factory reset my PC (I only had a handful of things installed on it since its only about two weeks old) and the problems persisted.

one thing i can recommend in that case is turning vfx culling bias down a few notches

in addition, try running the game with the task manager running in the back and checking both temps and other active programs. there may be something there that you missed

Yeah I turned down all the settings that the game said could affect performance (including VFX culling), that's how I got to my current 15 FPS state, at first this morning I was getting about 5.

The task manager does actually say that one of my GPUs is running at 100%

Likely it's citrix, myabe it was installed once and then wasn't properly deleted. Run a search acriss pc for citrix and try to install it and then delete using it's uninstaller.

where did you get that? it's done. cmd thing is done if at the moment you run that command unityplayer.dll was in system32 folder then it's registered. If game still does not launch that's what i said before - something preventing engine to use that dll or messing up with the dll itself. It's most likely citrix.

Also having this issue, I just played last night, unlocked void fiend (again), no problems, then this morning... nothing. Game opens to 0% and I'm getting 1-3 fps, never loads the game.

I've verified integrity of files, every single time I close the game, and it says there's one file to redownload and then I scan again. It downloads something with Steamworks Common Redistributables and then is all good, but still opens to the same 0% screen with 1-3 fps and the cycle repeats. Fully exiting Steam does nothing, restart of PC does nothing. I just wanna play my game, man

I have new info. I just attempted to launch 2 other games (Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3) and the former never opened, while the latter opened but gave a "DirectX Error" error message, saying "No valid DX11 video card found." I now think this may have something to do with the latest driver update, perhaps. Why it's not detecting my graphics card is a mystery to me, the update was the day before yesterday and worked fine until this morning.

@versed trench make backups of your game profiles, open with txt editor and paste in the keywords for eclipse unlocks to match your progress. As FancyFrenc said it's likely happens due to errors when run ends or game closed abruptly.
On the disconnections when run ends, ask your friend, maybe he's impatient and uses commands to get thru end scenes?

Is p2p this bad in this game? the latency between me and my friend is 90-120ms when one of us is hosting, but when we connect to a 3rd friend both of us are at 30-50ms max. I'm thinking bout options to bypass it, maybe vpn or hamachi (vpn+p2p) will work? Does it have any sense?

@earnest oxide uses steamworks, no additional load. Got catch up and sync functions that may restore the game from short hickup. Clients are isolated, calculations go on host. The lower delay the less lead for shots and more ttr for enemy strikes.
Lan emulation works as well as connection without steam (direct, needs open port 7777 tcp)
Use radminvpn instead of hamachi. See this message #ror2-tech-support message

i have a 4k display but the display was set to recommended zoom of 150%. switching that to 100% caused it to load properly if this helps

after reading your log, which has no real error message, i think the issue here is that your GPU is simply not able to run ror2

its older than the minimum system requirements listed on the steam page

in addition to that, the steam page lists a 2GB gpu (AMD HD 7870) as the minimum, whereas yours is 1GB

I'm having the same issue as someone did a few days ago (#ror2-bug-reports-pc message). I've tried reinstalling, validating game files (steam says they're all there, but if I run the debugger onr2modman, it says missing 119 files. I don't have any mods downloaded), restarting my pc, disabling window's antivirus software and added ror2 as an exception, my graphics driver is up to date (gefore gtx 1650). The game was working fine a couple days ago, when I first launched it. I ran into these issues yesterday, troubleshot, and got it to work played for 5 hrs, but now after closing it nothing I'm doing is fixing it.

Whenever I try to play with a friend it doesn't work. He invites me to join him, I accept, a black screen shows as if loading but then I'm taken back to the main menu and the same thing happens when he tries to join. In the multiplayer lobby it'll show as if you've joined but you get kicked out afterwards. We've tried many solutions we found online but they didn't work so I'm asking for help here.

Hello everyone, I have a question for glitch of some sort that I have seen 2 occurences of on Google with no real solution. After sprinting for a while, my character will get stuck trying to continue sprinting forward even if I release W. If I try to walk back then I will just stand in place for a bit and then after some time I can go backwards again. This gets way worse the more movement speed I get as it takes exponentially longer for my character to finish sprinting forward... I tried to play with mods/without mods/ verify game files/ reset graphics/ reinstall/ nothing worked, other games dont have this issue so its not my keyboard. But I dont think I had this problem when I first started ror2 like 2 weeks ago. I would be grateful for any insight/help with this.

Forgot to mention, I could join other lobbies and other people and we also joined a public lobby together and it was fine, however, when it comes to either of us trying to join each other, we can only get to the pre-lobby, once either of us proceed to character select the other one gets kicked out

Why would you do that for? I mean you do you, but if you want to play with friends on eos you still can. There is a crossplay feature that's sometimes even works... but better yet you can use console commands to connect directly or with lan emulation. Just fyi.

Because I was dumb, basically. I had the steam version, but I contested the purchase made on my credit card accidentally. I thought that I was charged twice, but I wasn't. Then steam took the game back. I wasn't able to cancel the chargeback with my bank (they said it was too late for that), and steam said they couldn't do anything basically. Since I got the game on a sale, which it is now over, it's best for me to buy now on epic, which has ROR2 on sale right now. : P

It's seems consistent, likely does not related to xmp and ram. You better to try drivers for gpu first. But if that fails disable xmp memory profile from bios. Do not forget to revert changes after you tried one thing and go to another.

It does not really matter, i run win 7 and everything is ok. In fact i tryed to crash my game in the past. Have 2k hrs and still had no crash. My crash folders are non existent. But that's because my hardware is stable af. No updates whatsoever. I have other problems related to that choice of mine, but i work around them myself. I would not recommend to do that to others.
Game should run on 11 just like on any other windows even xp. Something is wrong on your drivers i bet. Those logs are not helpfull to pinpoint what exactly. So, run for all possible general solutions, collect crash logs.
Lastly try disabling xmp memory profile from bios (known to cause similar problem on some machines for unknown reasons)
The other games crashing is not unusual when drivers misbehave.
If you have time try to get bootable os on flash driver and run the game from it.

So I've got an interesting issue that seems persistent. Running RoR2 on the steam deck. Game launches fine. Menus work fine until you attempt to select an action that would take you to the character selection menu (singleplayer, alternate game modes, etc). Screen goes black. Returns to main menu. Verify the local files via steam, it finds a bad file, reacquires it, game WILL RUN NORMALLY on the first subsequent launch after verifying and reacquiring the files. Close the game, though, relaunch it, and it goes back to the same problem. Reinstall, switching proton versions, etc doesn't seem to otherwise affect the behavior of the issue. Been happening ~2 weeks now.

@maiden kite that one file is frequently corrupted on pc too. I didn't check what file it is, but doubt that have any significance to your issue.
Game is not rated to run on linux or vm of any sort. Deck is rated to run ror2, however it doesn't mean it will run without issues.

You can try to set read only flag for the game folder and it's contents. Profile (save file and keybindings with stat history of your runs) is saved separately inside steam userdata. So that shouldn't affect progress.
See if that does the trick for you.
Otherwise it's very unlikely that someone could help you with that.
Even devs won't be able to.

Hi all, so for some reason my RoR2 always ends up crashing at random time intervals and I don't know why, and it isn't just the game crashing it crashes my entire pc. I've tried literally every method I've found on the internet and the ones listed above but none of them have shown results. Okay, as a side note the only mods I have are ProperSave by KingEnderBrine and ItemStats by Moffein (including R2API and BepInExPack), but what is your solution? I'm willing to try uninstalling and seeing if that works.

1. back up your save file locally
2. uninstall r2modman via windows
3. uninstall ror2 via steam
4. go into the steamapps\common folder and manually delete the remaining ror2 folder
5. reinstall ror2 via steam
6. verify game files (this should also return your save file)
7. run the game to see if everything is in order

save file location is mentioned in pin 5

in addition, if your save file doesnt return automatically, close the game and put it back manually

Also the lag seems to almost happen at random, some runs have the game run smoothly, while other times it doesn't register anyone's hits (besides the host's). And this seems to happen more often when we are 3 to 4 people, and right now it's happening with only me and him

@vestal bolt if you used mods before - wipe entire game root folder. Uninstalling with steam is not enough.
If you didn't set restrictions on your main drive, blame antivirus software if you have any
And yeah, sometimes game gets confused when multiple steam library folders are present with copies of the game files. Make sure you have no older versions laying around somewhere in your main drive. Observation suggests that letter of the drive does not actually matter, if you get the game on another drive, not just the same drive with different letter, but physical drive - game finds the files correctly.

Apologies for my first post here being help but I couldn't find any info on it.

A friend of mine has broken controls on RoR2 steam for windows PC.

Mouse cursor either vanishes or barely functions and keys are unresponsive and just says ??? on controls. It's the same when his controller is unplugged as well.

He tried reinstalling, verifying files, making a new profile, and I believe deleting his local files.

He also doesn't have Vjoy. Nor do I think he has any similar software.

His game is completely vanilla with no mods.

My game hasn't been working for months, the game will launch just fine but a few minutes into a game it will crash. I've tried everything in pins 4 and 6 and everything else the internet has to offer. My system spec are a RTX 3060 TI and windows 11, 48 GB of RAM. Here are the player.log and error.log files. Please help its been months, if any other information is required to help solve this please let me know and don't be afraid to ping me.

hey, so my save file got completely zeroed after the update. is there a way i could check my steam cloud data to see if it's still there?

i'm able to cheat in my unlocks with a mod, but i'm just upset that all my logged hours and legit logbook entries are gone

I think it was ror2 that started it tho, it was all going fine then the game suddenly crashed after I got in the dropship, after that everythings started being weird

@drowsy anvil do yourself a favor and get rid of bloatware forced on your notebook by its manufacturer.
Often things that promise to get more performance are doing exactly opposite.
Armory crate do not look like a good idea. I can see without any log that memory address is wrong, and the reason of error is somehow worse than general memory related error that game has (belive me that thing is clueless)
If things aren't exactly fixed now I'm gonna need error.log player.log and dxdiag.txt

@iron plover see game root folder for txt named bad profiles.
Name of your profile should be listed in that file if game labeled it.

hey i have no idea what it is but for some reason ror2 just has giant lag spikes constantly even offline
i've deleted and reinstalled everything, messed with settings back and forth both in game and in my nvidia control panel, nothing stops them

Having trouble manually modding the game, yes I know that I can use a mod manager, but I also want to teach my friends so we don't accidentally have different mods enabled. I have tried to follow every mods installation, In the console it says that some mods have not found compatibility layer "com.bepis.r2api" even though I followed all the instructions and copied the contents of the plugins folder into plugins, and it says "loading r2api" imma upload the latest log

You're doing exactly that. Use r2modman. Manual instalment requires knowledge not just for mods to work, but for integrity of the game. If you do any step wrong you mess up the data inside the game folder. And steam reinstall won't fix it for you, because steam isn't aware of mods and does not touch them at all.
Modmanager does EVERYTHING, starting from browsing mods, going to obvious installing them and dependencies , finishing with syncing configs between each player.
Under any circumstances you do NOT want a manual mod install.
Now for your and others sanity - wipe your entire game folder manually, install the game back and then use r2modman. Pick mods you want, run modded game once and then edit configs of those mods to your liking. Share profile code to your friends and make them export that profile code (or there is a file option) for your friends to export on their side.
This ensures everyone got the same mods with exact same values and least possible desync

hello, my friend finally got risk of rain 2 bc he got a new PC and can finally run the game. However, within the first 10 minutes of the game his whole computer basically restarts, and we cant figure out why. it shouldnt be his PC, as hes been playing cyberpunk2077 on max graphics at 144 frames and its completely fine, but it just doesnt like risk of rain. he suspects its because hes using an AMD GPU but i doubt it

he turned all settings down/off and it seems to be running ok in singleplayer, im yet to test it on multiplayer again though

Id ask ofr player.log and error.log, but it seems to be entire pc crash, likely to problems with psu or ram-controller-cpu train.

ive also gone into steam and risk of rain 2 / steam settings and disabled everything controller so it doesnt try to read one thats not there -- the issue still exists

Here's the promt it replies with:

@queen pulsar hi, i have a bug with steam to report. Many people have mentioned that, including the message above. It's pretty nasty non game breaking one, but should be easy to fix:

• Verifying files with steam causes steam to download and replace config.cfg. That config contain non default settings. I suspect it's a config used by some developer, because resolution set to windowed and actual dimensions are arbitrary, like when you get the game running in window while you edit some code files.

If you have any config file without autoexec.cfg with your preferred settings written in you lose all your settings to non default ones.

Please exclude config.cfg from steam files verification.

You can see on the pic date of last edition of that file, it's the only file that gets edited by steam.
