how's needletick discourse going? still worse than tri-tip or have some niches been identified?

sure, it's "awesome", but is it actually worth picking up?
There is no discourse its just a good item and usually netter than tritip

it performs well in situations where you can get a lot of low-damage procs but aren't consistently following up on them, the best example is Acrid but it's also good with stuff like tesla coil or willowisp

iirc the breakpoint where bleed outperforms collapse is around 9 seconds
i see
it doesn't have the infinite damage potential of bleed so tritip is better in that sense, but there are also a lot more situations where needletick can work
and even for survivors like commando that work best with bleed, adding an extra 400% base damage to their attacks every so often is still pretty nice

Originally Fire Bolts and Plasma Bolts were largely preference, but post-SotS the chance of an Ignition Tank is too good to pass up with Fire Bolt
As for the rest of the abilities, Nanobomb's damage and AoE is just far better than Nanospear, and Flamethrower is the key skill for Arti's DPS/PPS and cooldown rotations
As far as I can tell, Flamethrower has seen no notable changes post-Seekers, and neither has Ion Surge
So Flamethrower should still generally be the better option, even in E8
Unless there's some hidden secret change I didn't know about that hard nerfed Flamethrower into the ground
it's worth noting that her m1 cooldown scales with attack speed now (which might be a bug, but they haven't fixed it so I guess it's here to stay for the time being)
but she can get a lot more dps out of her primary now without being as reliant on skill cycling

and flamethrower still hasn't had anything to compensate for the huge nerf it got with the sotv burn change, other than the attack speed scaling (which it should've always had anyway)

don't get me wrong, I love flamethrower
my point earlier was that surge is the easier option
tbh I actually would argue Surge is the harder option
Since it launches you way up into the air, your projectile aim needs to be compensated more
And in E8 it can accidentally fire you out of the tele radius
Flamethrower keeps you close and you can just kinda spray it in the relative direction of the enemies
And if M1 now scales with attack speed, thus making the cooldown rotates less necessary, then Flamethrower's sprint cancel becomes even more valuable and makes Flamethrower even more noncommittal
You can spray it enough to get your damage, procs, and burn in, then sprint cancel back to a bolt or nanobomb/spear
just like old times huh

But I see no reason for why the optimization ruling in Flamethrower's favor having changed at all here
Nano bomb is definitely better early game but I find nano spear way more useful late game especially against mythrix
Snapfreeze alone hard cheeses Mithrix, you don't need spear
And later game, Nanobomb's AoE and better general damage leads to better procs
Of course, compared to Flamethrower v Surge, Nanobomb v Spear is definitely a bit more personal preference, especially if you're running Flamethrower which can help with the damage loss
about that actually, spear has been uh, interesting lately
I have not been able to replicate this on console with that big of an effect

I usually use surge and nano spear is nice for the range
Surge + Nanospear is also like
Probably the weakest Arti loadout
It exacerbates the issues of both skills
Play as you want and find fun ofc, that's what's most important
But Nanospear's lack of real AoE showcases Surge's issues when trying to utilize it to stay in the air, and being in the air showcases Nanospear's greater emphasis on needing to lead and the like
Surge is almost always better than flamethrower bc it can used as a get off me tool, it can be used for repositioning, and enemies tend to have a hard time with vertical mobility
Idk that loadout works insanely well for me. Nano bomb works well too but not quite as good. Also I don’t like being on the ground with arti, enemies scary
Your "get off me" is ENV suit and circle strafing
flamer can have good dps but its hard to argue against the fact that 90% of enemies can no longer hit you in the air
theyre both fine moves
Losing damage and making it harder for yourself to hit enemies is worse
but one is good dps meanwhile the other one might as well give you iframes
90% of enemies also can't hit you if you just like
Get somewhat close and walk around

Fucking Mithrix, the melee boss, can't hit you if you get close and circle strafe him
elder lem greater wisps hees and hoos this' and thats
Elder Lems get animation locked and struggle to turn on you, the same is true of greater wisps
There's a reason why one of the messages pinned here is about how nearly every char in the game benefits from being close range
There's no reason to run Surge because normal circl strafing movement invalidates many enemies, especially in tandem with ENV suit which can be used as an aerial mixup to throw off enemies in its own right
So you're better off boosting your damage and proc rate instead
Captain is like, the epitomy of this
Zero mobility outside of Diablo jumping, and his only real attack is shotgunning enemies with no movement to negate them
And yet, if you just walk around them
You win
Surge makes stage exploration overall easier especially with later stages and it gives you a free pillar skip
Your stage exploration matters less because time just isn't punishing in RoR2
It's helpful, but not worth losing damage and procs over

There's an argument for both Flamethrower and Surge in E8
Flamethrower because you want to kill enemies ASAP and it doesn't shoot you out of the tele radius
And Surge because pillar skips are a lot more valuable in Eclipse
If I'm taking Essence on Arti I'm probably doing a meme run lol

are noteworthy, and any of the usual good ones

for the false son "kill 15 enemies with one activation of 'the laser' ", does it have to be the damage that comes from the laser or do other item procs (bleed, gasolines etc) count? does it need to just be 15 kills after i press my special?
does spawning in items in modded ror2 make it so it counts as items found on non-modded ror2? i was testing out the umbral mithrix fight and spawned in 200,000 tougher times and in normal ror2 it says i also found 200,000 tougher times

collapse is similar to bleed, it does more damage up front but doesn't stack as well
you can trigger needletick more than once on an enemy and needletick isn't aoe and needletick isn't guaranteed and needletick doesn't care how much health the enemy has

tho proc coeff is literally a hidden mechanic so i doubt you'd know what it is
depends, chances over 100% are still multiplied by proc coeff, just not luck

viend corrupt laser has 0.625, meaning take all chances and multiply by that per hit
technically more could be useful if you have attacks with a proc coeff below 1.0, but 10 is still plenty
in 90% of cases 10 will be plenty
basically everything that deals damage has a proc coefficient that multiplies the trigger chance of % effects
so something with a 0.5 proc coeff would have a 5% chance to trigger 1 needletick, instead of a 10% chance
it also affects status effect duration and a few other miscellaneous things, but it's mainly a multiplier for proc chance

it's not super important unless you really wanna optimize damage, it's kept as a hidden stat for a reason. I do think it's helpful to know that it exists though, even if you're playing casually and don't care about all the numbers
it’s not super relevant though because not a lot of things have a proc coefficient other then 1
the main exceptions are captain’s shotgun, Rex’s m1, and railgunner specials (both of which have a higher then 1 chance)

the "Defeat the teleporter boss" objective never shows up so you don't softlock at least, it should just charge

kin is a little janky and can do weird things with spawns sometimes, that's probably what caused it

exp required to reach the next level increases by 1.55x for each level you gain
on survivors, each level grants +30% max hp, +20% base damage, and +20% health regen
on enemies i'm pretty sure each one has different scaling, i'm not sure

What dlc do I get? I mostly play with 2 of my friends who have both the dlcs so I get all the dlc items most the time
if you want good items, choose sotv
if you want a good bossfight, choose sots
Survivor-wise? Sots has 3, while sotv only has 2. I personally picked sotv because I was intrigued by railgunner, but at the end of the day, it's all up to your preferences
Do prongs the thing where you click to continue your run (loop) instead of fighting mithrix spawn on seekers of the storm and survivors of the void dlc maps?
The Primordial teleporter that let's you loop or go to mithrix can only be found on sky meadows and helminth hatchery. You can also loop by going to the artifact portal on either of those stages
You can also loop on stage 5 by going through the blue portal, artifact portal, gold portal, and I think even green portal— though I don’t think halcyon shrines spawn in those stages o3o
Does planula work with transcendence asap
Yes, halcyon shrines spawn on helminth and sky meadows
It will not regen any shield you have
It can't spawn a green portal though, as there is no stage 1 in path of the colossus
Even then you can go gold portal from that and go from there
are there issues with steam multiplayer? me and my friends are trying to get a lobby going but one of us always has a black screen and then they cant swap characters/join the run itself.

They get all equipments but generally they're not meant to work on turrets
just strange since it's an actual equip, unlike the other 2 which are weird "not really equipments"
well it's both an actual equip and "not really" an equip
Self-reviving is a passive effect of the equipment. So if they can use the aspects and that healing shit they should be able to use the seed too

It's not passive healing, the equipment itself is just targetting you
like the little guy needs to exist and he doesnt for turrets
and you could send the little guy to another dude but the default position is just on you so it's basically passive

Your inventory contains the equipment, but it's your equipment slot that uses it and calculates the cooldown and all that junk and turrets lack that, which is why they can't use equipment even with gesture, it's just a technical weird thing
it also just looks like turret jank, i have an equip slot 
idk if debugtoolkit does smth extra it's the game that just forces an equip slot for the player

you can't activate any equip if you spawn as a engi turret.

so for "your inventory contains the equipment," is it like marking that "certain equip = true" AND having a separate thing for uses in the slot, but no use statements are there for turrets? and id just assume that gnarled doesnt simply go off of a true statement, but aspects do? (simplified obviously because i dunno how the code actually works)

The reason why Seed and Fuel work is they just check "inventory.currentEquip"

treeborn has the same amount as the other stage 3s so it's optional, but prime meridian doesn't count as a stage so the loot there is "free" as long as you can beat false son
if you don't wanna do FS then take the green portal on stage one and skip the rest
unless you feel like going to treeborn colony ig, then you can take the second portal but skip the third
Good optimization to do if you wanna sweat about it:
Loot like 4 chests while gold gains start to ramp up, do the halcyon shrine fully, use the gold from the halcyonite to loot everything else as fast as possible, pop tp, kill boss for the green, stop charging tp and leave through the portal
birbs go too crazy
iirc treeborn has a high chance to spawn cleansing pools too, which can waste some chest spawns but might be worth it if you have lunars to give up

I'll just add that on stage 1, the halcyon shrine costs a total of 300 gold to fully charge, so keep that in mind when farming
I think the optimal stage route for maximum possible loot before stage 5 would be
stage 1 -> green portal -> gold portal -> green portal -> gold portal -> green portal -> stage 4 -> blue portal -> void fields -> stage 5
(assuming you're lucky enough to get gold portals on both of the colossus stages and are able to kill false son and fully clear vields)
you can continue after false son
if you use the rebirth altar but cancel instead of picking an item, it'll spawn a portal and you can continue the run

oh also if you do manage to get two gold portals, only take one stack of halcyon seed, just skip the second one

beating FS with halcyon seed will actually drop better rewards, but afaik there's no benefit to having more than one seed

i bought the game a few days ago and have tried everything i can think off to fix it aswell as tried working with support but they didnt help much
so far ihave tried changing my pc's boot mode, checking file integrity, reinstalling, restarting, chainging wifi, clearing steam cashe, network troubleshooting, toggle crossplay on and off and a few other things but nothing is seeming to work

i dont know exactly how to explain what its doing other than giving me a black screen just before character selection
then sending me back to the menu
#ror2-tech-support might have some ideas but responses there are slow, only other easy fix I know of is turning off your VPN if you're using one
this is an issue that's been happening to some people lately, afaik nobody has figured out a consistent fix but hopefully it'll be addressed in the next update, whenever that is
not using a vpn unfortunitly, wish it were that easy but cheers for the sudgestion anyway, guess i just gotta hope it fixes itself one of teh times i try play it or hope for a update soon

Generally stakes but they are harder to use since spikes are an easy option for flying enemies and for big enemies you can just hold m2
try enabling the epic games online service thing in the settings.
it worked for me once before
all false son moves are pretty equal except for laser of the father and laser burst
laser burst kinda just wins in damn near every aspect
how does one false son
its blight vs poison again except with lotf and lb where theres 20 thousand things lb does and 1 thing lotf does
hp increasing items are good
make sure to use your lunar tampering passive as effectively as possible
stack lunar ruin on enemies you mildly dislike to watch them crumble and die
use normal swinging when against single targets and slam when against a horde
win game
i tried for like one round and imminently got surrounded by wisps and they kept flying out of slam range
use laser and spikes to pick them off
also slams aoe scales with how long you fall with it
and you can use step of the brothers while charging it
so if you charge slam, dash in the air, release slam, you get a much bigger aoe

also step of the brothers creates an explosion for each enemy it hits
so if theres a dense group of wisps it may also be worth it to just dash through them
they love flying in different directions
false son is also the single tankiest survivor in ror2 so he can also just afford to sit there and eat a lot of wisp attacks
hes the risk of rain juggernaut
the more spikes you have the more armor you have, the more spikes you use the more regen you have
so even just by ignoring them you can tank them for quite awhile
i thought loader was tanky or rex with healing
theyre tanky but false son is tankier
FS has the same health as loader but with a passive that can essentially give him more armor or regen on demand
as well as what is essentially another passive that encourages him to build into hp
but it also buffs his first passive in the process
its how many spikes/stakes he has i think

It does have some uses which at least puts it above lysate but any void is better than lysate on viend
Its good if you like staying in base form as much as possible

I mean, comparatively you were facing against a bunch of grandparents and didn't get hit by the slow moving rock they throw
And killed them fast enough to make them not do their solar flare attack
yeah, he’s know for these weird hamster deaths tho, idk if it’s maybe the build it he’ll live crazy situations then die to something random like that

Elder lems are just generally one of the biggest threats anyways, even getting hit by a normal one might kill you

Hes a bit more of a hybrid survivor where most things are kinda just good on him
Bleed is a bit finicky to work with though since whilst he can hit a lot he generally hits moreso in bursts (by that I mean hit a lot in 1 second and not much in another)
It can work with him though especially if you get a crowdfunder, but if you get a crowdfunder a bleed build is always gonna be good
I guess the one thing you should focus on more is generally focus more on raw damage than aoe since most of his loadouts have workable aoe in general especially if you know expose tech (though mind you gas and wisps are still good)
Oh actually right if you know how to use expose tech and you aren't running eviserate it might be better to scrap fire rate

If you're struggling a lot with flying enemies then some on kill effects or a uke could be nice for dealing with them
Errr, the correct term is expose transfer but basically if you do the 3rd hit of your combo and then attack with either whirwind or your dashes you'll still "carry" the expose debuff on those hits

Why are even harpoon players pick stationary turrets on engi?
the moving ones always seemed better to me if you don't have shield
- bustling fungus gives a lot of survivability to the turrets, moreso than just moving. especially below e5, where facetanking is a more legitimate strategy
- moving turrets are kinda horrible. worse proc coefficient, worse dps (210%/s vs 200%/s), noticeably shorter range
plus, you can wall bug and just have invincible turrets
Dunno 'bout range, but stationary ones deal 100% of your damage and moving ones 200%
mobile turrets aren't THAT bad, they actually get more procs/second on average than stationary and only deal slightly less dps
plus if you plan on taking visions (which I do a lot bc engis m1 sucks ass) it only really matters if you care about wallbugging and bungus

Mobile turrets fire ~5 times per second for 40% damage, for 200% DPS

what does the "highest stack count" mean when you look at items
Its the amount that you stacked the item the most at once
So say you got 20 tougher times in one run, it will show that your highest stack count is 20 because you reached that in a run
Way back in the day i timed them by counting frames and thats pretty close to what i calc'd
So i suspect its just frame rounding shenanigans between entity states adding up
I should probably retime them at some point or at least properly analyze the states but lazy lol. This was what i had before which for mobile its almost right on that amount, stationary has falloff so that could offset very slightly higher base dps
The tick rates were 2.73 and 4.62 per sec respectively, which ofc is lower than a flat 3 / 5

There are weights per object and then per category and its different on each stage
if you hover over it it'll give an explanation
So theres weight within category and weight for the category, you could think of it like the odds a certain pool is selected and then the odds a certain interactable from that category is chosen

Some stages pull a trick by multiplying the weights in the category in order to have smaller ones. like if a shrine is 12 and you want something to have 0.1, you can just make that weight 1 and multiply the others in the category by 10, which would make 24 240
So all of the weights on the dlc stages but category chests are x10 to make category chests rarer on those stages or what?
That way the odds within the category are preserved

yeah, you have to account for the fact that the director has a limited number of credits to spend. Even if a rarer thing does get selected to spawn, the director still has to be able to afford it
The gold chest being so damn expensive means that even if you would hit the low chance to roll it, if you dont also roll it early enough, then it cant be afforded and wont spawn. so its like a meta rng on top of the raw rng lol
it's essentially impossible to give an exact spawn rate for interactables because of that, but comparing weights is still roughly accurate

always prioritize dodging & don't rely on healing ... that's not to say healing is bad but you should never need more than 2-3 slugs or wungus
quite a few modifiers do nothing but punish you for being hit, so it is good to instil a dodging mentality while you play
strategy-wise it isn't too different from monsoon, you still wanna full clear stages and everything. You just have to play really well and take as little damage as possible

nah, freezes are just kinda inconsistent
certain animations prevent freezing like when an enemy is spawning, and some enemies are just immune to it for some reason

it depends, headset is really good but it also needs a lot of tech knowledge

if you're referring to the "highest stack count" thing in the inventory, that's the highest amount you've found in a run, not the cap

noxthorn runic lens etc. are all pretty nice
The daggers are weak (I think) that fire on kill but again aoe is powerful with chaining right

Daggers are pretty strong, they don't do much damage individually but they're really efficient
yah daggers being guaranteed to hit + being 3x1.0 proc makes them chain super well
gas is a solid aoe option, stacks well & synergizes w/ igtank & noxthorn
their range is huge and they hang around for a while, and with clumps of weak enemies like wisps that might only take 1-2 daggers to kill, you can quickly build up a bunch of extra ones
the only caveat with on-kills is that it won't help against mithrix without

helps a fair bit, damage to barrier won't fail the challenge
sometimes it's best to just wait for an easier seed if the current one is too hard, anything with glass is almost always doable and command helps a lot, and sometimes you can get an easy kin seed
but mainly this, it helps to learn the seed so you know what route to take or which chests will be useful

Honestly I do it ASAP. The guaranteed legendary plus 4 whites and 4 greens are good for quickly building a good start
Plus later stages give you much harder enemies to fight plus the void fog plus enemies getting items to use against you is very dangerous for late runs
If youre going for voidling and dont wanna fight the two stages before him then there's a way to do it in the bazaar but it's weird

because you need to be able to attempt to deploy the beacon in an area that is impossible (off the map, sky box, etc.) and if you've already used the first beacon, when you m1 it doesn't "fail to deploy", it just doesn't do anything period. So the menu stays open and the tech is ruined

Why's flame aspect considered so good?Was always kinda overrated to me...
the ignite is 50% of total damage, and the fire trail provides a bit of crowd control
and of course, the synergy with the ignition tank
how good is gensis loop on mercenary?
It is at least slightly better since i-frame spam makes staying at <25% safer

Behemoth is like top 10 or top 5 reds not because of special OP synergies or anything but just because it's always good

yeah getting items (and improving your items) is way more important than getting through the stages fast

like obviously you still want to loot as efficiently as possible but spending time getting items will help a lot more than saving like 3 minutes

pretty sure it still is, make sure you actually have the console enabled. It also won't work if crossplay is enabled so make sure you and everyone you're playing with has it turned off (assuming you're all on steam)
but if there is a mod for it then #ror2-modding would know

Acrid's m1 hitbox doesn't extend downward very far and melee attacks can't be aimed vertically, that's all there is to it

I play Bandit and his M2 Dagger works absolutely as I expect it ... and it's also melee
It's hard to tell from that angle but I'm guessing you were hitting higher up than you thought you were, as soon as you dropped a little lower it started taking damage. And tbh I have the exact same issue with bandit's knife, it's one of the reasons I don't like using it lol.
Melee really isn't that bad, you do kinda have to get used to the aiming though
if you wanna test it you can get the hitboxviewer mod, most melee hitboxes are actually a lot bigger than you'd think (merc's sword like the size of a bus lmao) but a lot of them do have the issue of not reaching down far enough
merc's sword is also unique in that it's an active hitbox that tracks the movement of the sword, most melee attacks just instantly hit everything in a box in front of you. Probably because merc's sword is a lot bigger and slower than most melee attacks, and having a giant static hitbox would feel weird
...some enemies could learn a thing or two...
ive found the thrust to be the worst part, ive died to it when the sword is returning and about to be finished
people were going insane over that hitbox tho, when it came out and was shown off 
Halcyonite casually animation cancels and full combos you with more damage you can image bc guilded scaling is way too overtuned

Nothing has changed about the hitboxes, I think the only thing that's changed about Acrid in 4 years is the way the sprint cancel works on his primary
you used to be able to just mash sprint to spam the first hit in the combo, now you have time it between each attack but it cycles the entire combo instead of just the first swing
ok vagrant hitbox is just really low actually? not too bad but still
but generally the box doesnt go beneath acrid's feet, no matter his orientation
it doesn't help that when Acrid is standing on top of it, his entire body tilts back because it's a curved surface, which also angles the hitbox upward
yeah, just surprised the forehead doesnt have wiggle room like the legs
it's slightly lower than his very top actually
