I personally don’t see how the increased focus on lore could hurt the game. I would bet a good majority are interested in GTFO because of the story. It always seemed like GTFO was going to end when they wrapped up the story, so that should of been expected. Their entire rundown system alluded to the fact that one day, they would stop updating the game. If they wanted to keep this game going on for a while, they would of incorporated long term level design like procedural generation, ect from the start.

Yes, the entire point of the game was for it to be a hardcore horror fps. The fact that it needs to be hardcore should not limit how many players enjoy it, let alone limit it so much to the point where it gets a daily average of 1000 players. For example, Escape From Tarkov, a hardcore fps, is a really popular game, but it is really hard. If i have to guess, so many people love the game because it rewards them for playing it. I know you could argue that the reward for playing GTFO is just progressing through the levels, or simply enjoying the gameplay, but I guess that is not enough for the average person.

I mean you could literally run though hordes of enemies and hop around them, with no consequences. Stamina changed that for the better in my opinion. No more classic arcade shooter movement, which in my opinion made the game much less enjoyable.

I agree that the game is not really a horror game anymore, probably because they have done nothing to advance the horror elements.

Just my opinion on the situation, as I wonder why GTFO could never really exceed 2000 average daily players for a month at a time.

Idk, not my decision. There are posts to add all kinds of features. I honestly don’t even know why they still have a gtfo suggestions channel, it’s not like anything suggested is gonna be added with the direction that development is headed in. The amount of times i’ve seen people suggest long range flashlight placement since r1 is crazy, devs have not even touched on it once from what i’ve seen.

No, this game had an entirely unique sense of kiting that made the game different and raised the skill floor much higher than it is now. People used melee much more than guns which effectively made levels much harder than they should be. Less shoot more boop. Furthermore, the game has actually gotten much easier with a back up and shoot play style. If alternate universes can exist so can my fast little legs and bhop. I understand your opinion but I see it quite different. Also, things like boosters added onto the mainstream stuff like. Why do we need buffs and they continue to get better and better. I just use them to burn them I don’t ever find myself genuinly needing them. They cater to casual community far too often, it’s why we no longer have levels with “r2e1 status” r7e1 felt like a d tier and not a very hard ones. This game is done tbh.

I agree on boosters. They are purely a reason to cater to more casual approaches. BUT at least they dont have an impact on otherwise normal gameplay of the game. (See r5 which was the hardest rundown but had boosters)

Also. Just a note
Skill floor means you need to be good to start out with stuff. Stamina certainly makes the skill floor higher than no stamina.
Why? Cuz you actually get punished for doing things wrong quickly. Its not just holding shift in a circle

If you meant skill ceiling (maximum you can get out of it with skill) then its arguable. No stam gave you more options. But stamina still allows for a lot of it, just way harder

the only types of kiting pre stamina were
dumb kiting (circle kiting line kiting etc)
enviroment kiting (which used the enviroment to put distance between you and the enemies) (and does this even count)
and long kiting (which is hard to explain but in a nutshell it invloves abusing the enemy pathfinding to go a long way to get to you and then shutting a door in their faces and running back)

stamina partially fixed the enviroment kiting but not really since its comparable to long kiting
long kiting is fine just more annoying to do
and dumb kiting was fixed by enemy's slowing you down when you went inside of the
if you want a good experience just go play modded since some of those rundowns have no stamina or adrenaline (opposite of stamina)

A big thing I remember hearing from streamers was the opposite. Not being put off at all, and recognizing that the game being crazy hard was part of the appeal. The main streamer I remember bashing the game was Summit1G, and his distaste with the game seemed to be pretty damn fundamental. He just didn't like GTFO that much. That's generally the issue with leaning too hard into "mainstream appeal." At some point, it's just an act. You're just dressing up GTFO to seem like a game that it's definitely not, and the people you fool are not going to stick around if they find they're not having much fun.

You have lost the plot if you think this. I don't think there are a lot of games, shooters especially, where the wider audience for the game is highly invested in the lore. GTFO in particular, your lore buffs are largely long-time players, and only a portion of them. We're talking about a fraction of a fraction of the playerbase that gives a damn about story.

Much more common appeals are the game being punishing, and the game having a compelling atmosphere. This has been the case since R1, and I haven't really noticed R6 or R7 doing much of anything to make waves in that regard. Also, we should always just appeal to player retention here. R4 has great retention, R6 has horrendous retention. A lot of long-time players can't stop talking about R4, because they remember it so fondly. There is not a better rundown.

again i’m basing this mainly off of what i’ve seen and in total the removal of no stamina kiting and addition of weapon buffs and other buffs have lowered the skill cap as a whole. you’re right, people could have shot, but the weapons weren’t anywhere near as good as they are now so it required a lot more skill as well as some kiting being put into it. yes, if stamina and stamina only was implemented i would def agree that it raised the skill roof a bit. something else is that not having stam allowed so many different types of play styles that i would still argue it lowered the skill roof in terms of like how drastic your playstyle can be. in r3 i could see so many varieties of game styles, kiting styles, etc., now i watch solos and general gameplay and everyone has adopted the same way of playing because it’s just what stamina is allowing to be most effective. kiting still exists you cant get rid of it obv, but there is so much less uniqueness and it was 100% added to cater to casual play which is my biggest issue with it. no one wanted this, i’ve barely met anyone who hasn’t critiqued it. stam is also just poorly done, they could have made it way better.

hehe circle kiting :). also i’m so sorry i wrote that at 5 am and meant roof i keep messing it up in my head 💀 . also in general those were major but there was also the implementation of door repaths (still exist but very broken 😞), people like implemented a lot of sliding, gunplay, etc., in addition to kiting. like, there was a lot of different ways people made their more preferred kiting more unique. also yeah circle kiting is super easy but it was sort of a last ditch resort and most ppl adopted better strats because running in circles with giants and shit is a horrible idea. bbc, tank, charger, etc., made it worse to do. also i still kite now it’s just way different than it used to be. i cant exactly go back to my r3 gameplay style bc stamina and bugs kind of impede my ability to. a lot of ppl experienced the same thing and now all have very similar play styles bc of stamina. this wouldn’t be as bad if devs could fix their game lmao and not implement the most annoying stamina in the world bc of their own shit gameplay and a casual community who struggles with b3. i would totally go play modded but i don’t actually like have the want to even play this game that much anymore so im just criticizing it 🤷. also modded lfg is dead 😞. I think what happened is: spitter spitted too close, charger scout actually alerted, for some reason (maybe that old glitch I saw with spitters not reacting if host too far from them), it (the scout) only reacted when you got close to it. Spitters CAN wake up scouts when they spit, and I think that scout was way too close to it.

The comparison doesn't really make sense given the Sniper's role.

Shotgun and choke mod each get ~8 shots per refill, each doing 30 damage. Giants always take 4 shots to kill, hybrids take at least 3 with crits.

Sniper only gets a bit over 3 shots per refill, doing 40 damage each, but 2x precision means giants and hybrids are both always 1 shot each. 2 giants and 2.67 hybrids per refill vs. 3+ giants or hybrids per refill.

The body damage doesn't actually matter for the comparison unless you're assuming your accuracy is quite low, which can affect your weapon choice but doesn't have much bearing on optimal use comparisons.
