we've been doing the prisoner efficiencies/logs at the same time so they can get pretty hectic but we're always open to swapping things up. We just learned about the sawed-off, it's better at longer distances then we assumed.
we kind of like our current setup though, so a lot of the "meta" stuff is just whatever people prefer imo

And on a level without doors a sentry that isn't over reliant on doors to keep enemies within its effective range is much better.

wow just finished testing, confirmed the deaths go off after the melee animation, and they don't get subsequent melees in on the door. 23:17 from alarm door to breakdown with turret horizontal to door, and 23 seconds as well with nothing

they must saturate the slots to hit the door even if you kill the leading front line of them and get a swing in before they're also killed

The other big things is that it (largely) doesn't matter how many enemies are on the door in terms of how fast it takes damage. So even if sentry is 'keeping up' with killing enemies as long as there's just one guy alive the door takes approximately full damage.

The game establishes what a surge alarm is before both of these. The first alarm in the level gives you an almost tile to the first error-surge alarm so you get practice navigating it without fog.
The final one I think is not amazing mostly because of the possibility that you get forward spawns and lose important doors. But the alarm is still perfectly playable if you lose the doors.

I don't think this can be described as poor design though. In fact I'd say that it is intentional and good design. Forcing you to think under pressure is what makes the game fun?
If you're over-reliant as a group on pre-planning every encounter then the game is punishing you for that, but that's good and interesting IMO and isn't poor design.

(Like if you are using doors mines/foam are massively more valuable AND efficient.
And if you arent using doors burst/sniper sentries will just outperform)
But I wanna add 1 more thing.
Hel auto sentry does shotgun sentries thing better than shotgun sentry. Why?
Because it has pen and gets bonus back damage (due to a bug). So its the only sentry that benefits from being placed behind an enemy
Shotgun sentry placed that way genuinely loses dmg due to less headshots (which doesnt help its generally poor dmg, accuracy and overshooting).

the reason this is required is that you usually do not get access to main objective without plugging all secondary cells, since the bulkhead key in secondary is locked behind generator completion there
