spear does a bit less base dmg but more precision dmg [aka headshots]
knife does very eh base dmg but has a lot of multipliers that allow u to oneshot enemies [usually headshots and backdmg]
and bat has medium base dmg, but doesnt have a lot of multipliers
bat and knife are kinda for the same thing, smalls, and they can take big ones and scouts with a bit of practice but itll be harder

so slug rounds just don't exist in this game unless you want to mod it in

Would I be right to assume if I play the current version of GTFO I play the "new/current Rundowns"?

Yes, that is correct.
Rundowns marked with "ALT" prefix are remakes of the Original rundowns that were added and then removed from the game during the project's lifespan. You can technically play those via modding still, but its discouraged to be done on this server.

If you're relying on in-game matchmaking it may take longer to find a match, but is easier as you just click button and wait. But if you use the LFG channels (linked above) then you will likely find a match faster (there's a lot of groups playing right now), but of course takes more effort to make or find a group yourself.

And to answer your second question - yeah, I will probably stop playing. That's why I didn't buy this game, was waiting for free weekend. It might seem like I 'hate' the game, but to be honest my complains come more from grief than hate. I'm just kinds sad I can't JUST play the game without engaging in community, discord servers to find people and crap like that. None of that had place when I was playin L4D2 or... Hunt: Showdown let's say (can't think of any other coop shooter I've been playing). It just annoys me that more and more game seem to have everything in discord, to the point companies ignore better behavior just to push some stuff down to discord. Nah I think the expedition does have to end to get the achievement, we were near the start of R8C1 so restarting didn't bother us too much, I got the achievement the moment I ended the expedition

Actually there's one more idea: ask a 3rd individual to host for you both and see if that works.
